Great place to Take young kids and the hole family and it's educational at the same time.
Great place to Take young kids and the hole family and it's educational at the same time.
Fantastic experience for the wife and I. Very kid friendly. Not handicap friendly though. Lots of walking on trails and hard for wheelchairs, etc. People were in costume and knowledgeable. Could be tough when it rains with all the mud. But that was true pilgrim life. Price was a bit steep. But all in all it was quite enjoyable.
pricy for the display that is. found the native village very sad.
Beautiful place to spend the day learning and having fun! Highly recommend repeat visits
Great place for the kids to see life style of the early settlers. Some "settlers" are very knowledgeable about the history and politics. The Native People answered many questions and gave great insight into the life and interaction of their people.
One disappointment is the Mayflower is being reconditioned in Mystic, CT so we couldn't visit it on our trip.
Great place to learn about the first pilgrims and the local Indians they met.
Great educational fun for all ages. Especially fun if you brush up a little on your history before coming so that you can engage with the period actors, none of whom break character. Highly recommend!!
Enjoyed this living museum immensely. Truly not to be missed. History brought to life.
Went for Thanksgiving. Not enough food for everyone. Had to eat our meals a few items at a time as they were available. So cramped at our table that our plates were overlapping! It w as s such a horrible experience.
Every actor that I interacted with was well educated with the life of the original members of the Mayflower. I would highly recommend this historical site to anyone that visit Massachusetts.
I took 5 children under 41/2 years old. They learned about life in the 17th century in a very hands on way. The Indian village was a big hit , the people explaining the various shelters, boats , food preparation were engaging and realistic. The pilgrim settlement was also very realistic and the children LOVED the last house in the center, where they could pretend to prepare food, dress in 17th century clothing and play " house" just a wonderful experience for all of us.
I have to add that all the staff were friendly, helpful and professional.
Very informative great information awesome time chatting with the actors.
Love how the history is alive, the pilgrims and Indians, they make you feel like you are taken back in time, loved it!
Historically absolutely interesting, especially according to the History of American Natives.
We went on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The last day before they close until March. Good call.
Enjoyed Indian campsite, canoe making and cooking over campfire. Lots of walking, used a walker, some rough terrain.
Wonderful experience, knowledgeable staff at every corner. An interesting, immersive, and fun activity for all ages.
Boy it's hot in the summer time, but it's a really cool place to visit. The Pilgrims stay in character and their interactions is nice too.
Must see. Everyone forgets the 1600s and the native Americans. This is an important part of history that we need to be reminded about and see
Wonderful example of how people survived in the early days of our country. Everything is accessible, many guides to answer questions.
Very interesting beautiful place to show our children how they lived before.
Great educational experience - especially with children.
It was ok I was expecting more all we got was a lit of walking
It feels like a step back in time, they do an amazing job reenacting and portraying what it would have been like to be a settler that came to America on the Mayflower. Definitely worth visiting!!!
Not enough interactive displays and demonstrations. Not a lot of buildings. Very small. Sturbridge Village does 'Living history' so much better.
Incredible experience. The Wampanoag site was the best part. If you talk with the Wampanoag staff, who are actual Native Americans themselves, and you ask deep questions about what they really went through and what they're still going through, not only do they appreciate it, but you'll learn so much. I was so grateful and blown away by what they had to say. One Wampanoag woman suggested that I read up more on King Philip's War, and I immediately went to my public library and have been reading about it since. What you will learn from them if you REALLY ask about important things is invaluable and what we as modern Americans NEED to know. I absolutely loved this experience.
This place was wonderful for my nine year old son. The people were in character at all times. Perfect.
Pilgrims dressed and stayed in character as they shared stories and demonstrated daily activities. Mrs. Alden was standing while in labor. She was assisted by some neighbors as they prepared for the birth. Military maneuvers also preformed while any visitor could join the ranks.
Very pleasant to visit thanks to the actors who give us the impression of a return 400 years back and lend themselves to the game of a discussion by perfectly embodying their character.
Lots of staff dressed in the period, giving as little or as much info as you'd like. Kept the kids (age 3-13) entertained.
It really was an incredible, hands-on experience!! It was so much fun, I really would love to go again!! Loved seeing all of these people staying in character no matter what!! Absolutely an amazing experience!!! Great place to bring the kids!!
My husband and I have been to the historical villages of Williamsburg, Virginia and Mystic, Connecticut, and I think the Plimoth Plantation is even better executed than they are.
The outstanding thing about the Plimoth village is the actors. Be sure to engage them and ask them questions about their lives as settlers. Don't limit your questions to the physical dwellings and artifacts.
The setting is 1627. Each settler has a complex persona, based upon real Plymouth settlers from that year. They have learned the language and English accents as they were spoken at the time. An example if that one man said the word, "shoen" instead of shoes. They say "aye" instead of "yes."
The other side of the plantation is the Indian village, which we found interesting. The people in the village are descendants of a tribe of Native Americans, who honor the practices of their forefathers. They will demonstrate authentic Native American crafts of that time period.
Amazing place its like you stepped back in time to the pilgrims , everyone in the village all stayed in character!!!
The park has done an amazing job of bringing the pilgrims and the native Americans who lived here during that time to life. The cast members are very knowledgeable and were more than happy to answer any of our questions.
Wonderful view of the bay and beautifully landscaped ... Definitely worth a visit
Best and worst. Very good reenactors and crafts, but you're surrounded by dorky tourists who ruin the illusion. Really small if you don't stop and talk to the reenactors.
3rd grade field trip. They do a good job with their workshops and the people that play pilgrims.
For such much money to little to see..very dissoipented..how we can teach kids history?
A bit boring. I got to be in a demonstration with pikes and guns. Kinda cool and fun
This experience was very educational. It was interesting to see how the pilgrams lived and the plantation itself was beautiful. It reminded me of a shrine
Since Plimouth Plantation Cinema opened, it has become my "go to " cinema for the latest movie. It is close to home and shows the newest films.
I absolutely enjoyed this place. There is much history to be learned when the time is taken to hear the stories told by those who are reenacting those who lived during the 1620 time period. You feel you are getting a sense of what was going on during this time and come away with a better perspective of early American history than what is being taught in schools today. Highly recommended!
Best living history experience. And, btw, holding a pile in formation is really hard.
One of the best historical places I have ever visited.
Super great historic site. The staff are great. Definitely take time to talk to the people in character. All in all if you go there with the intent to learn something and talk to everyone you will have a great time.
Great historical site. Plan to go when it is cool in the summer
This is just a special place and you really learn to appreciate our
fore fathers and women that paved the way for us all.
The actor's are perfect and my very favorite is Captain Myles Standish he is always informative and fully in character and nothing but a joy to talk with when I visit.
This visit was very disappointing. We were charged full price, but there were only a few female (housewife) actors staffing the buildings. We realize that Covid-19 has affected this historical site, but the presentations really lacked enthusiasm. All the actors who did jobs were missing. I haven t been here for 24 years, and my husband had never been there. So know before you go.
I was visiting from Japan because my family lives on Cape Cod, and came to Plimoth Plantation with some friends for a day trip. I had just heard from my cousin that our family descended from John Howland, the man who had fallen off the Mayflower but was rescued. So, I decided to ask one of the "Pilgrims" here if he knew him. It turns out it was John Howland himself. I know he's only an actor and not really my ancestor, but he really knew his stuff, so it felt like I was meeting the real person. It was an awesome experience, and I bought the children's book about John Howland as a souvenir for my daughter.
Wonderful interactive educational fun place to go to!!!
I loved walking the same ground walked by the pilgrim pioneers.
Such a unique experience. Closes at 5pm. Snack bars close earlier. Mostly outdoors. Multiple Well stocked gift shops.
Lot of walking. Pilgrim area was cool. Actors play along like there from that time. Indian area needs a little more attention. Don't get me wrong lots of cool things to see just left you a little wanting. Craft area was very cool. See pics.
Very interesting and well presented by the staff. Fun and educational.
Our visit was very disappointing and we regretted the money we spent for admission. (It was so expensive, even with the military discount that we got!) The interaction with the Natives was informative and interesting, but the interaction with the "Pilgrim" actors was awkward and even kind of annoying. It was very difficult to draw any kind of information out of them and, with the exception of one actor, they didn't seem to enjoy being there or interacting with the visitors. There was such an odd feel there, and we didn't learn or experience much. Many of the demonstrations (weaving, etc.) we're closed, even though it was fairly early in the day. The woman at the pottery demonstration was downright rude. The eating place said they could not cook anything even though we went there long before closing. The "movie" was not interesting at all, and was more like a series of slides. We did enjoy touring the grist mill in town, but thought the overall ticket price should have been discounted since the Mayflower 2 (which is supposed to be part of the experience) was not there to be seen. (It is out for restoration.) Overall it was an overpriced, disappointing day. Maybe our experience was the exception, but we didn't think it was worth it at all. We would not go again.
Awesome place! Very cool how everyone is set in their time when you talk to them. The animals are a great touch too. The bull is very friendly.
Great place to learn from and interact with knolegable characters!
Great location with history, nice stuff, some awesome reenactments. A great place to take the kids to learn about early Massachusetts and a nice spot for an overnight.
Excellent place to visit and get a great history lesson.
Interesting part of history, don't forget to see the newly restored mayflower..
The history of Plymouth plantation is amazing. Just search on YouTube (The World From Above. The History of Plymouth) You'll see how wonderful this very original place, the people of New England .
Old English village and a native settlement recreated. Nice place to visit and learn how the people lived in 16th and 17th centuries. Definitely a better place to visit than Plymouth Rock.
Awesome, this is like going back to the 17th century.Such a fun place.love it
My partner and I have had memberships to the beautiful living history museum for multiple years in a row. It's always a wonderful treat to visit and no matter what we always leave something new.
Ask about Milletary discounts, as they re not advertised but they re fantastic.
Overall, it was a great time and well worth the money. Reenactments and actors were solid and consistent, and the local land given to the native Americans was a sweet treat to see and a great opportunity to learn about the indigenous culture still prevalent in New England.
This is one of my favorite all time museums. The interaction with the people is second to none. The living history brings life in 1628 to a whole different level of understanding. I love, my children love it, and my grandchildren love it. In other words they're is something here for all ages and level of interest in history. It can be a little overwhelming if you visit at the same time as a school field trip, you just need to be patient and await your turn to ask questions and have some conversations.
That was a beautiful experience. I want to go back again.
Cool place the people there are interesting a little pricey but something good to see
This is a great place to visit. A great part of history
