It's really sad about this place, the prices are so high for a dog, and they wonder why they can't get homes for dogs, it's so sad, one lady told my daughter, that if you can't pay the price for a dog, then you can't even afford the dog in the long run, very, very sad

We had to rehome a beautiful kitty. The people were very efficient and extremely helpful.
Hated to have to leave Sammy there, but he found a new home in 4 days.
Thank you, Oregon Humane Society!

Had an injured cat that my daughter caught at her husbands work.. The cat had a bone sticking out of his leg.. And they told my daughter they could not help it.. they only take unwanted pets.. Very disappointed in the fact that would not help this poor animal in dire need of medical attention.. nothing Humane about it.

I have taken 3 of my babies (all cats) to the Humane Society's Spay and Save Program, and am getting ready to take a female kitten in next. Their vets are the best and were very thorough with their care...the last cat I brought in needed a 2nd surgery and they took care of everything, including aftercare and follow-up phone call afterwards....and my cat was feral at the time. He recovered beautifully and completely and is now a happy healthy house cat (he still goes outside to play)
I spent $88 there and for that Little Max got:
Neutered, ears cleaned, oral surgery, nails clipped, wormed, microchip, Rabies and feline leukemia vaccine, and 7 days of antibiotics (for his oral abscess they found on exam)
Max got all they had to offer, that's why it was $88....otherwise it's $20 for a spay or neuter. BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT and me and Little Max? We couldn't be happier!
Thank you ...

Went looking for Guinea Pigs, they have a nice facility, they don't have much of an area for small animals, even when they have a lot of them. Also I think they need to work on the smell in the dog area. The smell of pet urine is stressful for animals and people, maybe adding pheromones would help, and better air filtration.

I was surprised at just how large, clean, and well kept this Humane Society was. It was extremely professional. We went looking for a dog, there were a decent amount of options, but sadly half of the kennels where closed at the time. They also had a nice selection of kittens and cats. As a side note, workers told us if you wanted to meet with a animal you should come early, we went an hour before closing and to meet with any animal you had to wait at least 45 minutes. Overall an excellent place for finding your companion!

When I walked up the the counter to view a dog that I wanted to adopt I was refused without me saying ANYTHING about me or my home life. The woman at the counter was very nice and lovely! Then a man interrupted her and when he said to pick a different dog, I asked to see another and I picked a name off the top of my head. I was told I picked the only two dogs who had qualifications in taking them home. When I tried to explain I have a good home for this dog I was rudely interrupted by the man at the counter and before I could speak he told me to leave and come back when I m ready for a dog. Will NOT be adopting from a shelter that judges people as soon as they walk up to the counter!

Having to give up our dog was difficult but the gals that helped us move him to his next family were kind and helpful during that time. They made everything easy and let us know what to expect along the way.

Adopted Thunder, a cute little black kitten, and the staff made everything fun and exciting. I'm glad that the staff love animals just as much if not more than I do, they truly want every pet to go to a great home.

You absolutely should come find your new friend here! I've been coming to OHS to add new family members for the last 12 years.

OHS is dedicated to helping you find the perfect pet for you!

We adopted out kitten Milkshake here last year and she's been such a little joy in our lives! We adopted her brother Hamburger here about 4 years ago as an older, calm cat and decided he would like a friend last summer. Ham and Milkshake are best friends and love each other the most in the entire world! Ham loves having a kitten to snuggle with, play with, and they love having lick fights to see who can clean who best.

We're so happy that we decided to adopt, and not shop. Shelters pets are so loving and happy to be with you, please give them a chance!

They mean well but are disorganized and understaffed. I wanted to visit with a dog which was listed as available. However after waiting for about 20 minutes they told me it was not as several people moved ahead of me. I spoke with staff who matched me with another dog. The guy at the front desk told me people were placed ahead of me even though I'd waited. Apparently this is the busiest (not necessarily best) shelter. Try a different location if you want to meet a dog in a timely manner. *i support and have adopted from shelters in the past. None has had quite this long of a wait time or lack of staffing. I hope that they improve their organization because it's a wonderful cause.*

This facility is completely unorganized and some of the volunteers don't understand how to keep organization. I went there today with my 3 year old to see a kitten for a possible adoption. We waited for over an hour for all the volunteers to not know whether or not he was available and then which other kittens where available to be views. You have to sign up to see a kitten and they don't limited the time with each one... And you can't sign up to see other ones. So you can literally be there for hours on end. When I brought this to their attention they basically told me to go kick dirt. How horrible is this? They aren't doing right by their pets.. And they aren't doing right by the public.

If you are looking for a new pet, look no further! Oregon Humane Society helps animals near and far and has so many cuties available for adoption every single day. If you see a puppy or kitten that you want make sure to arrive early because they are popular! Everyone here is so nice and will make sure you and your new pet are ready for a new life together.

There are always plenty of animals here and it's kept very clean considering there aren't many volunteers. And all of the animals are in kennels you can view and walk through, it's not like most places where you can only see pictures and ask for them to bring one out.

So they are doing adoptions by appointment only right now and they charge you a non refundable $20 fee to hold the dog until their next available time slot.
I recently went to view a puppy that was extremely traumatized. They wouldn t take him out of his kennel or let me go in so I never was able to meet him. They refused to give me my $20 back and what irritated me most was after that display of behavior, they still immediately placed him back up for adoption.

What a joke!

What's not to love about OHS?

What's not to love about OHS?

I wish I could roll around with all the dogs there. I love them all. Its so sad to see them in doggy jails. If I could I'd take them all home. Sadly, We only have a 2 bedroom apartment. I can dream tho right?

We have 2 amazing guinea pigs who were both adopted from OHS. Romero George, age 1, (black and white) was our first guinea pig from OHS, adopted on HALLOWEEN 2017. After his cage mate died suddenly of old age we adopted snicker Doodles, age 3-ish, (dobbie colored) over spring break.

OHS has an awesome store in the building. Sadly not much small animal stuff. But tons of cute dog and cat stuff along with foods of all types, toys and basic supplies for a pet. They sometimes have gently used small animal houses and cages.at a discounted price of course.

This is a dedicated, no kill animal agency. Animals are well cared for. Adoption fees can range from inexpensive to over a hundred dollars. Volunteers help you make a good choice and offer thoughtful advice. Prepared to be there several hours.

Total sham!!! Very few animals to look at. Terrible customer service. Waited in line just to be told to just look and come back with a name. No instructions just a vague wave in the direction we should go. Luckily, someone else was inside the area and we were able to find out there was more than one room to look at.

We were able to find 2 pups we liked and went back to the line. One request was shot down as not being a good fit (though the signage didn't say anything that lead us to believe this would be the case). We were approved to see one that already had a hold. So we signed up to wait 60mins to be able to meet with that one.

The lady who took us back to meet the pup had zero people skills! She was rude and decided she knew better about what we were looking for and needed than we did. More than once I had to correct her assumptions. The 180 her personality made when we decided we wanted to place a backup hold was almost comical. She went from sour drill Sargent to squeaky girl, "we love to hear that!". Of course they do, it's a $15 nonrefundable fee!

She stated the fee was for "the service" they were providing us. Really? I guess it is expensive to put a name in a computer! That's all the service was! They don't even bother to call the one back up if the dog is adopted by the first person!

Lots of signs on cages stating "I'm not available to meet, but you can put a $15 nonrefundable hold on me". I bet they make a killing with those nonrefundable holds. I overheard the clerk telling another family, "that dog has 2 holds already. But you're welcome to put a 3rd hold, just pay the $15 fee.

Not surprising we didn't get the pup. Total waste of a night!! Please save yourself the headache these people are full of themselves. I might not work at a shelter, but I'm just as much a lover of animals and an advocate as they are! Hopefully, we will have better luck elsewhere.

As someone whose has rescued and volunteered at husky shelters. This organization continues to adopt to the first family they find even though there are current husky owners looking to add to their pack. These dogs get returned all the time because this shelter does not verify the future owners ability to manage a high energy dog. These poor dogs need the best and most thorough care and this shelter takes no part in making that happen?
Very sad.

I love OHS! I adopted my last kitty from them about ten years ago. I always direct people to them if they are on the lookout for a new cuddly critter to adopt. The staff was extremely nice and informative, the foster family that was caring for my slightly ill kitty was phenomenal, and their website is pretty fabulous. You can see all of the little kitties and puppies available. I even utilized their daily stray kennel videos when one of my kitties went missing. I may be using them for another pet adoption soon!

I was interested in volunteering and they have a $47 fee to train you to volunteer. I found another awesome animal charity to volunteer with, but it baffles me that they charge you to volunteer your time.

I previously left a review, but apparently it got removed without my consent. It is bizarre that a shelter has a system in which you arrive and have to wait in line 30-45 minutes just to check in, in addition to more time to wait to see any dogs to see if interested in adoption. It makes sense that it takes time to meet a fury friend and to accomplish the adoption right, but it is ridiculous the to have to spend half the day before even getting to that point. Ive lived in many other areas, and this is the only place Ive seen this nonsense. It's like they discourage patrons from adopting, intentionally or not.

So, my fiance and I adopted a second chance cat na...

So, my fiance and I adopted a second chance cat named stachennator. He is a second change cat from the mulnoth county shelter. The Oregon human society only diagnosed that he was being monitor for diarrhea. That was it. When we adopted him he didn't eat for 4 days! We took them to the buckman veterinarian downtown Portland and he had 3 other issues.

1. Gastro intestinal virus (500$+)
2. a ear yeast infection (157$)
3. stud tail (minor issue but still paid 70 dollars for check up and 35 for meds for it.)

So we called an asked for a reimbursement of the fees. The humane society said no because we already adopted him even though they claimed he only had diarrhea. So we bite the bullet for the humane society who don't do diagnostics on their pets. If you plan to get a pet here first ask for a proper diagnostic of the pet signed by a doctor. Our cat supposedly had rabies shot but there was no signature from the mulnoth county doctor or any vaccine number on the certificate we got. (that's illegal practice according to Dr. bishop from the buckman veterinarian clinic.)
