Very spectacular and worth a visit, there are many dining cars to eat on the side of the road.
An absolutely beautiful building - the stonework is remarkable.
The history and amazing architecture....a must see if you visit Albany.
Such a beautiful place we went on the tour the history us facinating
An amazing building with an interesting history. Take the guided tour...it's a pleasure.
Lived in NY all my life and this was an amazing experience. A must see cause the pictures can only show so much
Took a private tour with summer interns working at various federal agencies. Very informative tour and a beautiful building. I will be visiting again.
Great place to take visitors. Could be confusing if ur looking for a specific agency.
Very impressive inside and out. Go during session to see all the action. I m a big fan of the modernist capitol plaza across the street.
Great place for a walk, bike ride, roller skating, ice skating (seasonally) and even just relaxing. Plenty of places to sit and read a book or "people watch". Easy access to the Museum and their are many great local landmarks, memorials, monuments and pocket parks surrounding the plaza.
Worth stopping and getting a free tour. A win win. .lot's of history and a million dollar staircase. ..
Beautiful architecture, worth visiting inside and friendly staff! Plus weekly farmer's markets during warm month!
Years of living in Albany and I'd never been before tonight! So impressive and epic! Full of rich history and detail everywhere you look.
Security treated our group great. Angelo Satabarbara and Phil Steck were both awesome.
This is one heck of an experience, especially if you love great architecture. That old saying, "They don't build them like they use to" can certainly be used to describe what an outstanding example of man's imagination and his hands can achieve. It's such an opulent and physically impressive structure. I can't find the proper words to do it justice but New Yorkers should certainly feel proud to have a capitol building such as this. Every New Yorker should see it and go home and brag about it.
This historical building is beautiful. It is well worth taking a few hours to walk around and check it out. Make sure you walk the million dollar staircase. If you can time it right, try to be there when either the Senate or Assembly is in session. It is very interesting to see government in action. Also make sure you see the flag display.
Visited and took pictures cant get into building security tight
Some nice architecture. Too bad it is full of idiots
A great place to go to for the day the capital and the plaza and the museum , alot different places to eat as well
Albany is both quaint and international. It's a small city with thousands of visitors coming through every day. The Nelson Rockefeller empire State Plaza is a very spacious structure that is both landmark and modern. It contains the governor's office, the state senate and assembly buildings.
Outstanding for meeting the leaders of New York State.
We went on a weekday tour. It was just after a large High School group, and the guide took care to avoid them and the noise that came with them. Our group was just a few folks, so made for a very relaxed and quiet experience that encouraged observation and learning. We saw a good portion of the building and also lingered afterward to poke into a few spots we passed earlier for a closer look. There are lots of inconsistencies in the story of the Capitol's construction that prompt questions these days. Such as, how is it possible to be 8 million dollars over budget (total spent $12mil) after spending the initial 4mil, before the governor "notices"? Why did nobody "notice" after the project was $1mil over budget? How is it possible to lose a huge portion of historical records in a fire which specifically targeted the library, with a single victim who did not make it out? Weren't there fire safety precautions in place in case of such event? Was the fire an accident? How can you leave just a few stone carving elements unfinished, becoming an instant eye sore and looking embarrassing in the most important Chambers of the building, while the carvings on the staircases are finished? How can you make ceiling decoration out of paper when you know the roof leaks and you've got buckets on the floor to catch the water? Why install giant non-working fireplaces, when you know you need to heat the building in winter, so could use real working ones? There are still lots of questions to ponder and research, and the tour is just the beginning.
Interesting stories associated with the exquisite stone work.
Beautiful building and plaza. One of 11 state capitols that doesn't have a dome. Completed in 1899, it is truly impressive!
It seems like a great architectural place to visit from the view ; I hope to be here one day
Was there to meet with Legislators, but always marvel at the history within and what a treasure the building is for NYS.
A gorgeous building with lots of history. I truly enjoyed my time working there. In the summer there are great food trucks too.
Beautiful architecture and the tour was free!! Kids loved it. Great rainy day activity.
Awesome. Great tour guide. Hand carved sandstone is beautiful!
The capitol building of the great state of New York is something worthwhile visiting for everyone especially New Yorkers.
The building is a magnificent architecture with spectacular beauty.
Stone walls, pillars, staircases and dimly lit hallways. And the most beautiful thing is the general assembly hall. Just walking through the hallways is half the adventure.
The capitol building also connects to other buildings via underground tunnel.
Dealing with elected officials is never pleasant but it needs be done...
Could not go on the steps for pictures because blocked off.
Really interesting and the free tour was definitely informative
Amazing building and a great tour. Highly recommend.
I went to an event, MWBE Lobby Day. Very informative. It was a good day.
It was my first time in the capital and I was impressed by the buildings and layout but more impressed with the aceess to my representatives. We were there to lobby for bills A.4881 & S.4294 which would lower the A1 misdemeanor jail time from 365 days to 364 days #onedaymatters. This would allow immigration judges some discretion in cases of deportation. These minor crimes should not negate a person's entire history of doing the right thing. With the statue at present guidelines a person will be punished too harshly for one minor incident. Too many families are being torn asunder under this unfair sentence. #onedaymatters
Such a beautiful building, we loved the "Halloween" tour!
Historical place, very old but very well conserved buildings. Some state buildings. Many of the flats around it seem to have a really great view. Next to it you can find a huge RCA Nipper statue and some of the oldest.
It's the most magnificent State Capitol in the country, and may rival the National Capitol. It's a unique structure of Renaissance revival architecture, with touches of Romanesque. the interior blends a unique cornucopia of styles that need to be seen to believed. It is literally a palace, and the history within it's walls must be explored.
I love working in this historic building. It seems like I discover something new everyday.
Who knew a state capital could be so architecturally and beautifully built? The tour was so well done! We loved every minute!
Magnificent, Matt was a very enthusiastic, friendly and informative guide!!
Nice place to walk around and kill a couple hours it was like 5 dollars for parking right off the highway. There's food shopping and bathrooms. Food is pretty expensive but that's to be expected.
Beautiful place, I loved it for sure I would visit it again.
The tour is fabulous. Great for people to learn about the Capital and State goverment
Beautiful architecture, and everyone is so friendly, nice and accommodating.
Most beautiful interior of any State House in the nation. Carvings in main stairway are superb.
Very nice historical place. Very beautiful and very unique.
Albany - capital of the state of New York. Small, ancient and pretty town, quiet, few cars. The government building is beautiful. Short stop halfway between Boston and Niagara.
The New York State Capitol is one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever been in. Be sure to check out the Million Dollar Staircase and the Assembly Chambers.
Experience the pleasure of meeting the people who serve us it was also a beautiful place the staffs were very receptive and pleasant and surprisingly humble
