This building is over-the-top gorgeous. So many layers to look at!

I am one of those who always assume capital city of New York state was New York City until i visited Albany. It was a high wow factor at the State Capitol - to begin with, it is one of a very limited list of places in NY that is free for admission but what surprised me was almost every angle of it was a picture perfect scene, inside & out. Parking is free after 5 PM before it close by 7 PM weekdays. Make sure to see the grand Million Dollar staircase - costed a million dollars at the time it was built, appreciate the sculpture along the stair evolving from single biological cell at the ground floor to higher intelligent mammals to its top floor. The outside front stairs and garden were very elegant. I also had an extended stay at the park next to it - took lots of photos with the huge 'I Love NY' signage, the dumb sharped performing art arena, and those beautiful buildings around the park.

How to rate this place? It holds some of the most courageous, dedicated, selfless people... But then it also holds some of the most disgusting, corrupt, and greedy.

There is a cool museum inside though, and the Million Dollar Staircase is impressive.

This castle is just beautiful! You can walk through the tunnels that pass under the world where there is not seen with the naked eye! This place is too special to me because my husband there I proposed marriage.

Historic for its construction, and mixed blending of architecture. Amazing stone work on the Millionaire Staircase. Tours available. Most recommended. Open until 7.

Truly an impressive place. Waste of money, but absolutely impressive. The tour is very informative. Also that the building is not finished yet and will never be completed. There is a timeline in the hall of the governors with some interesting details. It is the first time that we had to pay nothing for a visit ..

Didn't have time to go inside, but walking the grounds was great. It's a beautiful looking building.

Amazing! Cost more than $25 million during1899 is a lot!!! Indeed worth the money they spend on this building.

Must go and see the New York State Capitol! Highly recommended for architect students, history buff and nice venue to take wedding pictures.

Visiting friend from Detroit, He took me here for the tour. Once you go through the security screening, you can resister at the ground floor for the tour and it is free. I do recommend to do the tour as tour guide is friendly, knowledgeable and answered all kinds of questions. Also guided tour gives you access to more area inside the building.
Yes they have invested unthinkable money in to designing and building all these beautiful history. I truly believe that many people will get to see it and enjoy the site for years to come !

The staircases look like the inside of Hogwarts! And the tour guide Matt was super friendly and knowledgeable. And it's a plus that the tour is FREE!

If you have a plan for a long drive with kids and family from Providence or city of Boston to Niagara falls then Albany will be a very nice stop over before evening. You can enjoy the capital of New York state in the evening and in the very early morning when you can again start driving from the city of Albany to Niagara falls.

Feast for the eyes
Be prepared to be amazed. This NY State Capitol is one of the better ones in the USA. From the moment of entry we were greeted with warm & welcoming folks. Just walking around we were in ah of the great grandeur. Unfortunately my wife & I only did the self guided tour. But to our surprise we encountered no less than 5 persons (public servants) who took a moment to show & or guide us to the different treasures of the Capitol. Rightly so, everyone we spoke too was very proud of this building. My only regret is not scheduling enough time to do the free guided tour & visiting more in the area.

Very beautiful structure. Entrance to the building is free, check at the entrance as an airport, so it s better not to take anything with you. Inside, everything is very majestic, the elevator works, there are toilets, drinking water. Around beautiful views with benches and walkways. I recommend to visit

While ralling with my fellow members from 1199seiu the floor had a lot of cracks outside.

It was a great stop to make while our trip to Niagara falls. Buildings are admirable!

What can one say perhaps if the governor and legislators spent time working for Us and not reelection and personal gain perhaps We could be proud of them. On the Other hand the Building is Historic and should be seen.

Words fail at times, but these iconic structures undoubtedly pay homage to Modernism, and revive in us the idea that perhaps we CAN bring perpetual order and joy to humanity through architecture; a must see.

Spectacular plaza, not sure what the cost was, plenty of jobs I'm sure, nice place to visit. Beautiful contrast of old and new styles.

Met with state Senate aides to try to get them to push early voting and automatic voter registration out of Rules Committee. They said to call Cuomo and Flanagan. So... Please call them!

Great place for pictures from every side of the building. A beautiful background for the ice skating rink at the plazza as well in the winter.

Awesome experience taking the free tour. Learnt so much about the capital building and the artists. It's great that the transcripts are available online because otherwise I would have loved to record the whole tour and experience to share with others. I guess you'll just have to go there and experience it yourself .

Thr building is kind of old and gaudy. Some offices are difficult to find in the building. A lot of security in the lobby can make for delays in entering the building. At least the building is easy to identify from the street.
