Not a whole lot to see here, they were charging full price even though the other exhibit was closed
Given that there are so many better smithsonian museums in the area, this museum was kind of disappointment for us. After paying $15/person , there is hardly anything to see in the museum.
The Queen of Egypt exhibit was very informative and I enjoyed all the history that was shown. For one of the muesums you have pay to get into while visiting Washington DC, it was pretty cheap ( only $15).
The only reason why I gave Nat Geo a four star instead of five was because no where on their website or brochure did it mention that the Nefertiti bust was a copy. My friend and I were looking forward to seeing it and finding out this information while at the exhibit on the info tab below the bust ruined the experience a bit.
Besides that, a good muesum to visit.
Back in early 2000s I had made the centerpiece film for NATGEO's Mongolia Exhibition "Mongolia: Rebirth of Traditions"... They do excellent exhibits!
This visit was to view the exhibition, QUEENS OF EGYPT, which was beautifully mounted and curated. The staff persons at the entrance could not have been more helpful or available. Top drawer experience all 'round.
Terrific exhibits, had antsy 8 yr old with. Good scavenger hunt for the kids to work at.
The titanic exhibit was good. It was a little underwhelming, but a nice diversion for a chilly afternoon.
Under construction . Only one indoor gallery open. But, they didn't charge admission!
Very third-grade-field-trip-you'll-never-remember vibe. Kind of expensive
Stunning photos, for free around the main building and in the building behind the museum. The museum itself and temp. exhibits is great but a little pricey once you've been used to the free Smithsonian museums.
Current exhibit, the Church of the sepulchre, definitely worth the visit. 3D and VR, and display of technology informative.
They always have some interesting exhibits, often with hands-on components which kids enjoy
Jane Goodall exhibit was expertly curated and made excellent use of technology and great story-telling.
Loved the experience of the 3D presentation of the church of the sepulchre, though at times was disorienting. Will Definately go back
Get there while the Jane Goodall exhibit is still there!
Small and not special. Expensive ticket fee. Not recommended. Difficult to find a parking space.
Beautiful exterior. I didn't go inside. I was only transporting a Spouse's Delegation..
Exciting exhibit with great adventures located down town with plenty of food places close by and also metro accessible
I visited 2 great exhibitions. First one "The tomb of Christ" - an incredible virtual journey/visit to the Saint Sepulchre Cathedral that was totally restored in Jerusalem. The second, Titanic: the real story about all the ship finding process with an amazing variety of details.
Queens of Egypt Exhibition, National Geographic Museum, through September 2, is fantastic with more than 300 artifacts, over 1,400 years of history to explore & an immersive 3-D theater that transports you on a virtual journey through Queen Nefertari's tomb. This museum never disappoints, always is amazing. The museum shop has many interesting items to purchase.
Must come for those who want to add knowledge, really comfortable, the English language is really fun
I loved this musuem, may not be a popular opinion but I enjoyed much more than the Smithsonian
Amazing museum. The right balance between reading and interactive exhibits. The Tomb of Christ exhibit was really well done, was actually at the Temple of the Holy Sepulchre in March and the VR exhibits actually create a lifelike experience that transports you there.
Extremely disappointed in our visit. For the price of $15 we were expecting a full blown museum. This is simply an exhibit on the main floor of their office building. I was perplexed at how misleading the website was in eluding it being a museum. Do not waste your time and money if you are only going to visit once. I can understand if you live in the city and are able to see the constant rotation of exhibits on the monthly basis but for tourists it's not worth it.
So me, my little brother, and my mom and dad went here 12/1/18, and we loved the Titanic exhibit, and one other exhibit (can t name) .,.
I will definitely come again!
Check the exhibition you want to go to. They close 1 hour earlier of the operating hours in their website.
I have never been disappointed by their exhibitions. Always very informative and very well organized.
Great exhibition space! Saw the Queens of Egypt exhibit. Stunning!
This organization that was founded in the 19th century, has managed to become a leader in the photography of nature. A trailblazer in setting records in the air, land, and sea. It was sch an amazing experience to be able to visit the National Geographic Society and read about the rich history of the otganization from Jaine Goodall to one of the first cameras that one of the staff to take to the Artic to photograph the ice. The National Geographic Society has uncovered so many new phylum and family's of life. Documented indepthy the life of chpanzees. Made countless films about nature and the journeys people take across the globe.
We went to see the pirate ship. My grandson loves pirates and seemed suitably impressed even though through my jaded viewpoint it was a bit lame. The dioramas were good. Some of the other exhibits of photographs reminded me of a relation (grandmother's uncle?) that used to be a National Geographic photographer that I met once -- I did not find his work at this visit but a Google for Victor Boswell as a NG photographer did turn up some of his work! Thus, not a wasted visit.
Nice exhibitions there. High quality museum. The souvenir shop was really great.
Exhibition : Queens of Egypt was amazing and we really enjoy our time. Stuffs were nice and atmosphere inside was great !
We expected more. The exhibitions are not really worth $ 15 per person. 2 rooms on the ground floor and a mini exhibition in the annex. Expensive shop. National Geographic can do that better. Too bad.
Great exhibit! Friendly staff. Wonderful gift shop. Doesn't even take half a day.
Very interesting, interactive exhibits. We go there almost every time we are in Washington
Nice experience, and useful information and the staff are nice and helpful.
Very nice. Military and student discounts. I especially liked the Jane Goodall exhibit.
This visit was disappointing. The only photos on display were of sharks which frighten me terribly. There was very little on display of the history of National Geographic. Save your money and visit Newseum.
Wasnt as large of an exhibit as I expected but very pretty The Tomb of Christ exhibit
Their exhibit on the Queens of Egypt was fantastic. Worth the trip, for sure!
The Queens of Egypt was amazing - the 3D room was fantastic!
Enjoyed video about the discovery of the Titanic, and a video on the restoration of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and a VR exploration of it.
Very busy on a Sunday afternoon, for the queens of Egypt exhibition! The exhibit is very well designed!
Highly recommend looking up special events/speeches that Nat Geo has at night!
The Impossible Climb talk with Mark Synnot was great!
I had very high expectations for this museum... I thought there was going to be a lot of photographs, but there weren t many. The Ancient Egypt expo wasn t very interesting.
Amazing museum.Loved the Queens of Egypt exhibit. A must-see if you are in the area, their variety of exhibits are well designed and very informative. Very educational and entertaining. Staff were nice and helpful.
It was my first time visiting this museum and I went to see the Queens of Egypt Exhibition. So my focus was on the exhibition and from that perspective I was happy with my experience. The layout was easy, there was just enough interactive displays, mini movies, and the over all exhibits was impressive. I most enjoyed the 45 movie that cost an extra $7.
It was quiet on a Friday afternoon, but this only made the Wild exhibit by Michael Nichols and the Tomb of Christ more enjoyable. Nichols photos are awe-inducing and the Tomb of Christ is quite the virtual experience.
The Egyptian exhibit was amazing. I am an Amelia Peabody fan, and that increased my interest. The number of artifacts and the detailed description was fascinating. I lost track of time and ended up staying longer than expected. The exhibit in the main building was free and had video clips of famous people sponsored by National geographic. the clip of Jacques Cousteau and Jane Goodall were my favorite. It was a great experience.
Sellouts. Non-profit to profit. Did the deal with the Devil by giving 73% to Fox. This is why the TV channel is absolutely horrible.
Amazing place and Amazing people. I had the opportunity to intern with Nat Geo last summer, And it was a great experience. Lots of fun activities/events to attend , great hospitality and outstanding learning experience. FYI- as a graduate student, because of NAT GEO i am doing excellent in my career. Shout out to Henderson and Abrar at NGS. Best supervisors and mentors!
If you hear about a nighttime event there, check it out... their courtyard parties are lit!
Great exhibit on Egyptian antiquities, including 3D renditions of queens tomb. And a great institution. A must when in DC.
The Queen's of Egypt exhibit was very good, lots of interactive areas and amazing artifacts for only a $15 entry fee.
Interesting topics that they themselves conduct research and restoration
National Geographic: Exploring, Illuminating, and Protecting the Wonder of Our World
The National Geographic Society is a global non-profit organization that has been committed to exploring, illuminating, and protecting the wonder of our world for over 130 years. Founded in 1888 by a group of explorers and scientists who were passionate about sharing their discoveries with the world, National Geographic has become one of the most respected and recognized brands in media today.
With a mission to inspire people to care about the planet, National Geographic uses its vast network of photographers, writers, filmmakers, scientists, and explorers to tell stories that educate and entertain audiences around the world. From stunning photography that captures the beauty of nature to groundbreaking documentaries that shed light on important issues facing our planet today, National Geographic is dedicated to using its platform for good.
One of National Geographic's core values is exploration. The organization believes that by exploring new places and ideas we can expand our understanding of ourselves and our world. This belief has led National Geographic on countless expeditions over the years - from climbing Mount Everest to diving deep into ocean trenches - all in an effort to uncover new knowledge about our planet.
But exploration isn't just about going on adventures; it's also about pushing boundaries in science and technology. That's why National Geographic supports research projects around the globe through its grants program. These grants fund everything from archaeological digs in Egypt to studies on climate change in Antarctica.
Another key value at National Geographic is education. The organization believes that by educating people about our planet we can inspire them to take action towards protecting it. To this end, National Geographic produces educational materials for schools around the world - including lesson plans, videos, maps, games - all designed to engage students with science and geography.
In addition to education initiatives aimed at children and young adults through their website NatGeoEd.org., they also offer online courses for adults looking for more advanced learning opportunities such as photography or conservation biology.
National geographic also offers travel experiences where you can explore some amazing destinations while learning from experts who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with others like-minded individuals who share your passion for adventure travel or cultural immersion experiences.
Finally but not least important value at national geographic is conservation which means taking action towards preserving natural resources such as wildlife habitats or ecosystems threatened by human activity like deforestation or pollution.
Through partnerships with organizations like WWF (World Wildlife Fund) or Conservation International among others they work together towards creating sustainable solutions so future generations will be able enjoy these wonders too!
In conclusion ,National geographic society continues inspiring millions worldwide through their storytelling approach which combines scientific rigor with artistic expression making them one-of-a-kind media company whose mission goes beyond entertainment purposes only but rather aims at educating people while raising awareness regarding environmental issues affecting us all!
