Nice hotel but watch the extra charges.

Nice hotel but watch the extra charges.
I wouldnt disagree with other reviews on the decor. I was told that the building was still owned by the Smithsonian and had been a post office.
In the main, I agree that the staff were good. I had an issue with cleanliness: where marble corridor meets doorway internally there is an accumulation of detritus. Our room was only averagely clean. Coffee spillage on the bathroom door, fluff as if brushed by damp paint on the door post, carpet that needed a good hoovering. We had to ask for a coffee machine and second chair.
We had breakfast on teh final morning, which was nice, except the waitress had to be asked for milk for our tea, and salt and pepper for the table. We never did get our fruit juice.
And an extra 100 dollars in charges and taxes for a four night stay could ruin a holiday!

I just stayed at the Monaco Hotel for three night in D.C. The location is excellent but this time the front desk service is poor. After reading the other reviews I am not surprise. Two young ladies at the front desk on Tuesday, July 19th on the day shift could not tell me how to take the public transportation to Mt. Vernon and I had to go to the Visitor Center for the White House to get the direction. Maybe they should have training classes for the women/men that work the front desk on public transportation. The doormen and the housekeepers were wonderful and they worked very hard.

Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient! The hotel was a pleasure to experience. The architecture, the furnishings, the decore were elegant and fun! It is situated across from the arena which made it easy to access without needing transportation or parking for the concert we attended. Comfortable walk to many of Washington's historical sites.

The Monaco is a beautiful hotel in a nice part of town. I had the pleasure of staying there due to business travel in the DC area. The staff were very courteous. I would gladly stay there again.

Great location, friendly staff. Needs a bit of renovation and the wild decor may put some people off. Mostly breakfasts are not included, but are to die for. Make sure you check out their restaurant Dirty Habit, too.

My wife and I stayed here after our wedding reception, and the staff did a great job of making it a memorable stay: upgraded room; snacks; drinks. We ll definitely be back since we didn t get a chance to take advantage of the hotel s great location in DC s downtown.

Great venue and location was awesome for sightseeing and concert at Capital One center. Just a little strange on the night of a concert they closed the bar at 10:30 pm. There were a lot of unhappy guests. Otherwise would stay again but make alternate plans for drinks and friend time at a different location (kind of defeats the purpose of staying there).

AMAZING STAY!

AMAZING STAY!
My boyfriend and I took a spontaneous trip to DC and found a great deal on this jewel! Robert, Agatha, and all of the staff were beyond helpful! A little birdy shared that it was my birthday and we received a complimentary bottle of champagne, cupcakes, and a beautiful handwritten card. They gave us a gorgeous room and drinks at their bar, The Dirty Habit. Carlos was a cool and knowledgable bartender!
Make sure you take advantage of their loaner bikes. We took the bike for a 7-minute ride to The National Museum of African American Heritage.

I couldn't have asked for a better trip! I highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful and unique building. The staff was fantastic- I got in several hours early and was going to drop off my luggage but they allowed me to check in early. They also held my luggage after checking out while I did more sightseeing.
The room was clean and beautifully decorated. No complaints here!

Another fun Kimpton hotel with quirky touches. Check out the second floor ladies room. Great location close to DC attractions and metro stop. Restaurant Dirty Habit serves a wonderful brunch. Front lobby is somewhat small so was pretty crowded during the complimentary wine hour. Free coffee service in the AM is always a plus. Can't wait to go back.

I initially stayed at the property for the weekend as a staycation and then returned to stay for a friends wedding. The staff is always helpful and I always enjoy the wine hour and all the perks of being an Kimpton inTouch member. The building is beautiful and I loved the architecture and long hallways. The location is convenient to restaurants and bars and you can walk to the gallery place chinatown area in a few moments.

Disappointing for a Kimpton. No coffee in the room (requested pot took 2 hours after late check in.. with powdered packaged supplies), doesn t offer in lobby until 7am not room service until 7am. Is this hotel not for professionals who need to be up and out?

Room is below ground - which is fine except that the window treatments don t allow any light at any time unless you want to be a zoo animal.

Room is clean and well equipped, but smells musty.

Room #203 "pull the records from the hotel, you know who I am "

BE AWARE!!!

Great location of hotel and personnel. Tiny rooms but I could deal with that. Unfortunately, I can't stand filthiness!

Filthy duvet! Disappointed since the rest of the room "appears" to be clean. They clearly don't change the covers "who knows how long has it been since they were replaced!!!" I wish I can post pictures to show you all how this $250+ a night looks like.

Pictures available upon request !

So we stayed here for a weekender event in DC. We usually try to find a Kimpton because we love their vibe. Everyone is different and they offer such great extras. Monaco is a cool spot, and it's right across from Capital One Arena. It's an older building, but they did a good job (look at the room). Check out the pictures of the mini bar. Does Hilton do this? Granted, it's not "The Mandarin", but I don't have $500/night to spend for a room I'm hardly in for a weekend. They also have a nice little restaurant downstairs. The breakfast was pretty tasty. Definitely will be back.

I called to get credit card authorization form for my clients but i will NEVER BOOK OR CALL BACK this hotel again. The front desk team are VERY RUDE!! they do not know any kind of customer service. I called almost all day to get cc form and Ashley told me she can ONLY email me right before she leaves for the day which did she not so i called again and again just to get the CC form. WOW

The bar Dirty Habit here is great during happy hour. Wonderful outdoor courtyard space. It's super chill, crowd is professionals mainly late twenties and up. Majority probably the 30s, young 40s. Hidden gem in Chinatown area.

It's been quite some time since I've visited this hotel, and recently visited for a friend's wedding. It has old school DC charm but wow did it not impress in food quality and front desk was not friendly.
The food served af cocktail hour was just odd. There was a prosciutto wrapped fig with bleu cheese - someone should have tasted this, it's an awful combo and texture is weird. The tuna tartare color was off, like it had been sitting out. None of the small bites were good. We went into dinner hoping for better food, to be disappointed again. The seafood option consisted of a crab cake (which was ok), shrimp (which was way too salty), and a slab of salmon. The salmon was so fishy no one at our table took more than a bite. Someone wasn't paying attention to their prep work, it's quite easy to over season shrimp. The lamb was super gamey and lacked overall flavoring. Everyone pretty much just ate their broccolini and overly dry mashed potatoes. The desserts were ok - couple mousse cakes. However, for the coffee/tea service, only a handful of cups were set out, enough for about 2 tables. We watched and they were never restocked.
Icing on top was when we went to pay for our parking and grab our car from valet. The front desk agent never cracked a smile, yet scoffed at me when I asked if she would be calling for the car (apparently you text a number to bring the car). Very disappointing experience amongst everyone we discussed with.

The old DC Post Office couldn't be better suited for this iconic boutique hotel. Stayed here for our 20th anniversary and had a great time. Took in a Capitals Hockey Game, great eats and the national Mall. All within walking distance. And don't forget the hotels own bar and restaurant "Dirty Habit" with inside and outside seating.

Overall our stay was extremely pleasant with the exception of late Saturday night through early Sunday morning. We were awaken no less than five times by the extremely rowdy wedding party above. The front desk was informed however they appeared not to be concerned at all. We did not pay these prices to be inconvenienced by people with no respect for others.

Lovely place except they tried to charge us 3x what we had booked for (their mistake) and we had to request a new room because the bottom floor smelled very damp. Then they stuck us in a smaller room, saying it was identical to what they'd originally gave us. Please check your bills and room before you commit. Front desk doesn't necessarily know what they are talking about.

I attended a friend's wedding at the Hotel Monaco. The cocktail hour room was pretty plain, but fine. Theremony/reception area was very nice, almost regal feeling like the Titanic. The waitstaff was attentive and quick. The restrooms were nice and clean.

I love Kimpton hotels and this one is phenomenal. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We needed a crib and stroller and they made it happen. Plus, this hotel is directly across the street from a metro station, which makes moving around the city very easy.

Very nice hotel with a modern feel. A great bar (Dirty Habit) that gets busy in the evenings and also does very tasty food including bottomless brunch cocktails at the weekend. Fantastic location for sightseeing as can walk to most attractions or to the metro to go further.

Rooms were slightly dirty. Exposed wire behind the bed and the layout doesn't make sense with the door to the bathroom being a sliding door among other things. The beds are comfortable and service is prompt.

A little bit overzealous about noise in rooms. Due to the design of the hotel somethings will be heard BUT....
