It's a bit pricey and the rooms are a little small but if you can get a good deal (Priceline or groupon) I would definately recommend staying here. They have good service, staff is friendly, and they even have complimentary drinks and appetizers. during their social hour (5-6 every night). Very upscale and beautiful decor.

Some things I really liked, others I did not. Loved the pet friendly atmosphere. Very historic hotel but things like smelly basement rooms with teeny tiny windows and mismatched lights come with the territory.

I was not happy staying at this hotel. The only good thing i can say about the kimpton is that the location is really great. The staff was rude, the room was alot smaller than the pictures implied, when we got to the room there were hairs in the bed sheets. We called the front desk to ask for the sheets to be changed, the guys' tone immediately changed from the fake happy greeting to rude and when the maid got there she basically refused to change the sheets. Then later said "if she had time after her route she could 'try' to stop by" needless to say, the sheets were not changed. The hotel is ridiculously overpriced for a tiny room and rude service. A 3 night stay cost us almost $1,100.

Good location and nice on-site dining. First floor rooms are too small and lack a window. Rooms are not appointed nicely enough to justify the price.

Very disappointing, I've had nicer rooms in a 2 star hotel. While the staff was courteous and attentive the hotel it's self is nowhere close to 4 star quality.
The mini fridge in our room was completely dead, it didn't get cold at all.
The room (in the basement) had a horrible stench to it, it smelled like there was a pile of dirty laundry lining the ducts.
The HVAC was essentially inoperable. You could set a temp and it would kick on but it would just blow room temp stale basement air around.
ZERO ice machines worked. I tried every one on all floors. The only way to get ice was to call the front desk and they'd deliver ziplock bags full of ice from the bar.
Their "Cable TV" is a joke, it had ad overlays that would pop up every 2 minutes and float across the screen on major stations (Comedy Central, etc) saying that we needed to "contact viacomm or this station will be dropped form your service" which was completely inexcusable at a $300+ per night hotel.
They get 2 stars because they have a nice staff. The hotel it's self should be downgraded, it is NOT a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination.

I absolutely love the decor and the way the hotel is setup. My room felt like a room for a king. All the details they put into all the artworks is amazing.

This is a great hotel. Gorgeously decorated in a historic building. This is the ultimate DC experience. The location, directly across from the Capitol One Arena, cannot be beat. The restaurant (Dirty Habit) is a great place for a creative cocktail and dinner. This hotel will truly give you a grand experience.

Nice hotel. Very "Maltese Falcon" feeling in the lobby. The wine social is very nice, who complains about free wine, right? The rooms, while small, are very cozy and there is so much to do nearby that you'll have very little reason to stay indoors. You should take advantage of the valet parking. While it is expensive, it's only slightly more expensive than parking yourself nearby and having to walk all of your luggage through DC to get in the building. The prices are perfectly reasonable as well, especially since you are across the street from the Arena, and just several blocks from the museums. All in all, I've enjoyed my stays at Kimpton Hotels, and this is no exception.

Always a wonderful place to stay. Staff goes above and beyond to make you comfortable. Location is very convenient to many restaurants, metro stop and museums. Easy to catch a cab or Uber. Rooms are impeccably clean, large and comfortable. I highly recommend this Kimpton!

Floor was creaky when walked on, toilet did not flush correctly and not enough towels provided. There is no evening room service. They do not provide premium channels. Breakfast room service with basic eggs and bacon were fine but the French Toast was awful. Doorman could not provide basic directions nor advise when my uber arrived. The bar staff was helpful one night and the next night ignored us altogether.
The beds were comfy, the food provided for my conference was very good.

This hotel has a great location in DC - very close to the National Portrait Gallery, the Verizon Center, International Spy Museum and Chinatown. So many great restaurants to choose from within walking distance. The hotel is housed in the original 1839 Post Office and Tariff Building which means it has beautiful architecture - although I would avoid getting a room on the bottom floor like we did - it was a little like walking through utility corridors. As a Kimpton hotel, they allow all sizes of pets without any additional fees which is a great plus for me since we often travel with our dog. And if you left your pet at home, they'll even loan you a goldfish for your room!

I stayed here for a business trip but decided to fly my wife to DC for the weekend and extended my stay. She was head over heels for the decor. It is phenomenal. The staff is top notch and extremely friendly with the possible exception of the valets. My room was as comfortable as can be expected albeit a bit small, especially considering the price. If you get a courtyard facing room, make sure you get it on the upper floors if you require privacy. This is not the best hotel I've ever stayed in (The Address Dubai) but I would definitely recommend Kimpton Hotel Monaco DC. to all my friends traveling to DC.

Stay here if you like unique buildings and an environment that's not like every other chain hotel. If you prefer predictable sameness of Big Chain Hotel in a brand new building with all things brand new, this is not the hotel for you. We're DC folks but we stayed here for our anniversary last summer and had a great time. Other than Poste (the bar/restaurant in the beautiful courtyard) being closed with some construction, we had a great time staying in this beautiful old building that oozes character. The rooms are totally unique as they were all once offices or lobbies or storage rooms at one point. The courtyard is beautiful and just walking the wide halls is an experience. The location is terrific, right in the heart of Chinatown/Penn Quarter. It's adjacent to a Metro stop and right across the street from the Portrait Gallery. Tip: get a cheap lunch and take it in with you to the portrait gallery right across the street and eat in their amazing inside courtyard. If you have kids, there's a little fountain on the floor so take extra clothes and let them play in the water. Bonus for the great service as they let us keep our bikes inside the luggage closet as we came in each day from being out and biking around. We'll be back!

I stayed here while in town for a friend s wedding. My room was great - king bed, room was clean and a good size. Restaurant served good drinks and tasty food. The location is amazing - within walking distance from all of the places I wanted to visit while in town (including the National Portrait Gallery). My only concern was that it took longer than expected to check in (but that wasn t a dealbreaker as I wasn t in a rush). That aside, I d definitely stay here again.

We stayed overnight at the kimpton hotel as we attended a work function close by. Room was nice but not very big. I did receive communications via text message but their responses were very delayed. They asked if we needed anything after checking in and we were in search of a restaurant close by. They never responded. Overall a good experience but they need to fine-tune some of their processes. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was delicious but a bit overpriced.

The room was nice and clean great for a stay in Washington, where you are out exploring the city. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The Monaco has a fun atmosphere and it is close to everything you want to do!

We stayed at the Monaco for savor, a beer festival just a couple blocks away. It's in a great location and is clearly recently renovated. On checkin we were "upgraded" to a king room, without there being a mention this was a king room that was ADA accessible. While I've stayed in a number of accessible rooms in the past, this was the worst of them. The design of the shower was such that it was virtually impossible to not have half the water leave the shower and soak the entire bathroom floor. Not to mention the curtain design where it was entire free floating on a rod, it billows the entire time you're in the shower. It made both of us not want to take any other showers after the first time, with the wet floor everytime we'd enter the bathroom a reminder of what a crappy room we got. Asides from the bathroom and only one bar of soap being left for both the sink and shower, the actual bedroom was one of the nicer ones I've stayed at in a while.

Beautiful hotel with historic ties to Washing DC. Service is excellent and very attentive, rooms are well furnished and very clean. We had our wedding party stay in the Kimpton for the weekend of our wedding, and they did a great job accommodating everyone. People enjoyed their rooms, and the location was amazing, with plenty of restaurants and things to do close by. And if you want to stay really close, the Kimpton's restaurant Dirty Habit has a great food and drink menu throughout the day. If you are staying a day or two in DC, highly recommend checking in with the Kimpton.

What a fancy lobby, the happy hours I love as well as their coffee and Tea bar in the morning. What I did not like, they tried to charge me 95$ room charge while the room was pre-paid... that took off one star straight away. Also the room was kind of small for the price.
