This was my first visit. Everything was orderly. The choices of videos chosen during the wait was informative. Dr. Adams is very friendly and made me feel at ease. She took time to explain my skincare with me.

I booked an appointment, showed up to the appointment and they told me, "we called you 3 times to reschedule". I asked, "did you leave a message on my voicemail? It's set up and not full." No response to that, just "sorry we are over booked and you need to reschedule". If you run your business like this- NO WAY! Btw, the guy sitting next to me in the waiting room....waited an hour to be turned away as well....

I went to Dr Adams to get treated for my unsightly keratosis and scalp issues. She has a beautiful clean office. She was so patient with me when providing the service. After a few days since the treatment my skin is healing up beautifully. I will definitely go back to her in a few months to get rid of more of my spots.

The worst dermatologist I've ever been too. She left me with scars from a procedure I didn't need. Also never called with the results. I had to call 3 months later to get my results. Very unprofessional!

I am a first time patient and was a bit apprehensive requesting an appointment online as well as give my insurance information online. I was so impressed with Dr. Adams bedside manner and her intently listening to what I was saying. Her receptionist was not working so Dr. Adams played a dual role and did an awesome job!

I really appreciated how Dr. Adam's explained what was going on throughout my appointment and listened to all of my concerns. I also loved that all of the paperwork was done electronically. They even have video stations that play informative health videos while you wait. My appointment went great and was very efficient.

This place has made me incredibly uncomfortable especially when I wanted to cancel my appointment. I was asked why, and offered a deal. It's 2019 - No means No. I don't recommend this dermatologist, and I'm not risking another try. Here are a few points:

-No one answers the front desk phone during open hours. I called 10 times in a day still NO answer. My calls were never returned either
-Front desk operator seems to not know how to explain billing and procedures
-There's a high turnover rate for whoever manages the front desk. I see a new person almost every month
-Front desk operator wears earphones and has personal phone calls while talking to patients. This is so unacceptable and highly unprofessional
-Overall, the office seems very laidback and unprofessional. I overhear staff having loud personal conversations, and walk around the office like they're not at work. It's fine to have conversations, but the lack of attentiveness and concern for patients doesn't make it any better
-Overall disorganized office
-I received 0 copies of paperwork that I've signed. The operations of the office doesn't seem trustworthy or credible
-There's miscommunication when it comes to vital information such as billing
-Had to wait for 2+ hours during a few visits. They do not respect patients' time.

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Adams. As a person of color, before Dr. Adams, I had been seeing dermatologists who frankly have little to no experience with skin of color. Each and every appointment is throughly comprehensive and informative. I have never had problems with the wait time but am probably one of the reasons why it may be longer for others as I always have a plethora of lengthy questions that Dr. Adams answers in great, clarifying detail. In addition, she is always responsive when it comes to email. Every interaction I ve had with Dr. Adams and her practice has been a positive, uplifting experience.

Thank you!

I started to see Dr. Adams, she was great but her staff was horrible, not professional, no follow up on anything. I really don't think they know what their doing. I even recommended my co-worker to her and they took her information and said they will call her back and they never did. she called back 1 month later and told her the same thing, they would follow up with her but they never did. I can go on and on with so many things that weren't done but won't bother. just don't waste your time going here if you want a good Doctor.

I was looking for a good dermatologist online and came across an EXCELLENT doctor... Dr. Melanie Adams in Columbia, MD. The staff was friendly and the office facility is beautiful. Dr. Adams takes time with her patients and is informative every step of the way. I loved her quiet, calm and cheerful personality at first meeting her this week. She knew exactly what skin condition she was looking at and what to prescribe. She took the time to talk with us and listen to our concerns; unlike previous doctors I've seen in the past who seem rushed and not very good with communicating. She is definitely a gem and I am so happy we found her even if her office is a good 45 minute drive for me..it is worth it.

Took my 3 year old son to Dr. Adams today to have a skin tag removed from his face. Though the practice is not geared toward pediatric patients, Dr. Adams and her staff were all very kind and accommodating from scheduling the appointment to him being treated today. I also appreciated that although she typically doesn't do same day procedures, she was able to diagnose and remove my son's skin tag all in one visit, which saves me a lot of time!

My only critique would be that it took close to 2 hours from our arrival time (7:55am) to departure for our visit. Granted, it did take longer since she did the removal today, but it was a good 45 min after our appointment time before he was seen. But, perhaps that's par for the course with doctors these days. Otherwise, a good experience and I will come back!

This was my first time visiting this practice and from the time I made phone contact with the office staff and once I entered the office, it was 5 star all the way. I appreciated Dr. Adams' insightful knowledge of my skin problem and how to remedy the issues. She was very interactive and I felt very comfortable with her. Thank you so much Dr. Adams

Dr. Adams was so friendly and understanding. She took the time to listen to my concerns and explained everything to me clearly and thoroughly. Though the wait was long (about 2 hours from the time I arrived), it was definitely worth seeing her, and I would absolutely recommend her!

Edit: My second appointment was even faster. I arrived early for my 10:30 appointment and left by 11:00. Dr. Adams was very thorough and even addressed issues with my skin that I hadn t noticed. She really is the best!

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars and not one is because I didnt get past reception to meet the Doctor. However, I made an appointment online, they called to confirm all necessary information and confirmed my insurance, even to let me know what my co-pay would be. I left work early to see the Doc..made it 15 minutes early only to have the receptionist tell me she is no longer participating with my insurance plan and the appointment would be paid of pocket by me. What?! I left work early for this??
Dr. Adams... running your business is just as important as being a good Physician. I highly recommend a training course with your employees to be sure new patients are on your plan and not wasting peoples time.
Bottom line...if you schedule an appointment double check and get in writing they take your insurance.
Super disappointed.

I will give Dr. Adams 5 stars because i feel like i got the one on one attention that i feel is needed. I feel like she took her time to ask you questions and try to figure out what could be causing my skin problems. She seemed knowledgeable and the medication she recommended is already starting to work on my acne. The office was nice and clean and she was also friendly and had a good "bedside manner". I have only been to her once but will be coming back for my dermatologist needs.

The worst customer service ever. I made my first appointment for 10:30 on 3/29/18. I arrived at 10:30 am because I was looking for my insurance card. When I made the appointment I gave the receptionist my insurance number , group number and misplaced it somewhere on my office desk. I went to the office and informed the receptionist I did not have my card with me but I could have it fax to their office. The young lady at the desk had an attitude. Will we can t see you unless we see your insurance card with her hands up in the air. I told her again that I can have it fax to office. I have been a nurse for 28 years and I understand customer service and how to treat a client. When I requested for a office manager she said they do not have one. When I requested to speak to the doctor she went back in the office and said the doctor can not speak to me either because she had back to back procedure But my appointment was at 10:30 am and how could she schedule back to back procedure by 10:40am? It did not make any sense! I am surprise Dr. Adams did not care about her practice or her patient enough to speak to me for 1 to 2 minutes. I have never written any negative but this office is so unprofessional.

Very frustrating experience, very poor/no communication. The office phone number is never answered, I expected a phone call to get my test results and never got any until now, 2 weeks later. I had to visit the office twice to ask for my test results (since they don't answer the phone) and I was told that I will get a phone call later today and still no one called me.
It was really a waste of time and money and I decided to see a different doctor!

Overall, I would not recommend this place. Zero stars. Why? First, I arrived 15 minutes prior to my appointment and waited nearly 1 hour to be seen. Second, the front desk staff who checked me in (a female, do not know her name) was very unwelcoming. I don't even think she ever made eye contact. Never once smiled and barely took her eyes off whatever it was she was looking at. This is unacceptable for anyone in a customer service position. Third, after waiting nearly an hour, I finally saw the doctor for a total of about 5 minutes. I will say the doctor *seemed* friendly and *seemed* to care about patients, but beyond that the visit was a complete waste. Fourth and finally, I asked the doctor if they could print out all the dosing and medication instructions, since there were multiple treatment recommendations given. I was told that I would be given all the instructions when I checked out. I got to the check out and paid over $150 for their products. When I asked about the instructions, the medical assistant looked at me like she had no clue what I was talking about and left me with nothing. This is unacceptable and poor quality care. Finally, I was sent multiple appointment reminders (email, text) for an appointment I had cancelled AFTER I had cancelled it and already rescheduled for the above appointment. I mentioned this multiple times to whoever answers the phone at this practice, and they told me there was nothing they could do. So, apparently they have no issue sending multiple reminders for the wrong appointment date and time. One of the worst health care practices I've experienced. Not worth it all all for such expensive (time and money), low quality care. Needless to say, I will not be returning.

The wait this time was much shorter than previous visits (on time). The reason I m giving 4 stars...I have to come back for the mole punch biopsy (or whatever you call it). It takes only a few minutes to do, but adds so much additional time to come back...not to mention the additional co-pay. My husband went to a different dermatologist and they did it in the same appointment.

Very bad appointment confirmation system. You make an appointment online, they call to confirm. After leaving voicemails and calling few times finally get through to give additional information to confirm appointment. I'm told I'm all set for the appointment and when we show up, I'm told appointment was never confirmed because insurance was not verified. This was an appointment for a child and they did not see us. Completely unacceptable.

Yes my wait was long...however it is very clear why. Dr. Adams takes her time and really digs in to find best option for her patients. Saying she is thorough would be an understatement. I'd gladly wait again to receive that level of care and treatment. The front desk staff was pleasant, contrary to other reviews.

I would give Dr. Melanie Adams ZERO stars if google allowed me to. My mom had an appointment for an itchy rash during the week of 12/14. She waited for 40 minutes past her appointment time. There was no receptionist so she kept knocking on the door to see if anyone was there to help her. After 30 minutes of waiting and knocking, Dr. Adams came out to tell her she would be with her shortly. My mom then waited 10 minutes more minutes before being seen. My mom had called me during this time asking whether she should just leave and unfortunately I urged her to just wait it out a bit longer. As a dermatologist, Dr. Adams didn't even recommend the use of a prescription strength cortisone cream. Fortunately, I was able to find another dermatologist who was able to properly diagnose her and get her the necessary prescription, which has helped her immensely. I have no idea how Dr. Adams has any positive reviews. I would recommend others to stay away.

Dr. Adams is an excellent doctor and always treats me in a professional and friendly manner. I would always give her 5 stars.

I would give the office staff two stars. The positives are that the office staff had masks on and it was good that I was the only patient in the waiting room.
The negative was that I was worried about picking up the virus from the pen, sign in sheet and forms such as an I pad and pen to do a questionnaire. I was grateful that I wore the gloves. I wish the office staff had given more thought to decreasing the check-in time and reducing the number of items I had to touch that were used by others.
The thermometer was giving them trouble and they tried at least 10 times. I suggested they practice on each other. Finally they asked me to raise my bangs and I assume they got a reading.
My hopes to come into a doctor's waiting room and feeling safe were not realized and I ended up feeling anxious.
Perhaps the office staff can think of ways to make a patient feel safe such as to let the patient see them clean off their equipment prior to patient use.

She is a great doctor! She sits down and carefully listens to your problem. I had a skin rash that was going on for years. Although I went to three different dermatologists previously, none of them was able to find the solution. Dr. Adams diagnosed the problem, explained what it is, and the medicines she subscribed worked perfectly.

Run far away!! I rarely ever write reviews and if I do they re mostly positive. I m writing this review to save someone time, money and potentially worse damage to your skin. I came in seeking a solution for my breakouts which were most likely stress related. The Dr. Adams, who btw is very sweet recommended a few solutions one being superficial chemical peels that were supposed to reduce breakouts, even skin tone, and reduce pore size. While these chemical peels were pricier than most peels I ve seen ($250) the dr. stood behind them and was confident that they d help. Each peel seemed to help but also created mild hyperpigmentation. I thought that the discoloration was normal, come to find out they were bad reactions to my skin. Both of us saw some results between each peel which is why we continued. After the fourth chemical peel I had notice some MAJOR skin damage that resembled that of burn marks. Idk if the dr. went up in acidity or the last peel just damaged my skin completely. At this point i ve spent 1k on chemical peels and while my skin was somewhat better in other areas it was much worse in other areas. I now suffer from serious hyperpigmentation all over my face. Between each peel the doctor saw the hyperpigmentation and recommended her lightning pads which help lighten hyperpigmentation ($150). Again, I thought this was normal and nothing to be worried about. When It was time for the 5th peel I told the dr. about all of the damage and how I felt as though we were going in circles. Causing one problem and she d recommend for me to buy another service to fix it. Basically selling products/services but not getting to the root of my problem. I ve never been so frustrated with any medical professional in my life. While she s very sweet, she isn t well versed in different type of skin types. Her goal seems more concerned with profiting and selling service and less about helping the customer. She could of simply wrote a prescription for some hydroquinone but pushed the lightening pads on her clientele. I m 6 months in and my skin has gone from a few blemishes initially to blemishes and bad hyper pigmentation. The Dr. blamed my medication as a result of the hyperpigmentation. However, my personal Dr. and another Dermatologist clarified that neither had anything to do with the hyperpigmentation. At this point it s clear that she didn t know how to deal with my skin type. I wasted TIME, Money ($1200) and most of all left my skin looking so much worse. Now another dermatoligst has to fix all of the damage and we re starting the clock over. This could take another 6 months to reverse the damage she s caused. This business has so many issues outside of the skin care from being seen late (30 mins) when you have appointments. Also the staff never delivers messages to the Dr. I support all business but figured I warn anybody before they end up like me. Please go see another dermatologist. You have been warned.

They have a website to schedule online that apparently doesn't reflect their actual schedule... After you've gone through and put in all your info you're forced to create an account with a 3rd party site that no one has ever heard of, and then you get automatically signed up for text alerts without your consent. When removing yourself from this spam text, it apparently deletes your phone number from their account and then they have the nerve to tell you to "make sure" you enter a phone number. How about you "make sure" your website works and you don't sign ppl up for nonsense without their consent?
Pass.

Dr. Adams was very pleasant and thorough. I may not return because (1) they do not take my insurance, (2) their online experience is not friendly, complicated in some areas and I did not get an email inviting me to complete medical, health and personal info. before arriving for my appointment; and (3) therefore I sat in the waiting room for almost an hour. Given the COVID 19 situation I was very uncomfortable with that and very leary about using their instrument to record health info. It was a little stressful and frustrating.

Unfortunately, I will have to agree with the posting, that the staff is rude I have been with Dr. Adams for many...many years, due to recent experience during my office visit; it is time to make a change. Going forward I will find another Dermatologist to see. The Wonderful news is, that we as clients have a very large pool where we can find equally qualified Dr.'s with great staff. The staff needs to learn that they do not have all of the answers, the patient is also knowledgeable.

Dr. Adams, has been a great Dr. for me and my family, but there is more than just the Dr., it is also equally important that the staff (face of the office) is well diverse and respectable to the client (patient).

I appreciate that I was able to get a same-day appointment. That's important when I need to be seen at the time of a flareup. The office staff were courteous and professional. I always learn something new from the medical videos being shared in the waiting room. I did not have to wait long to be seen. Dr. Adams is a delight and always shows a positive demeaner. She listens carefully to my concerns and addresses my questions. And I am pleased with the treatment plans we develop together. I highly recommend her to others.

Just got back from Dr Adams office without being seen. This would have been my third time seeing her. First time was good-she's a good listener and cared about what was going on with my skin. 2nd time I waited 75 min to be seen despite me showing up on time for my appt. Today's 3rd time was horrible. I walked in for my appt at 11, the receptionist said I didn't even have an appt today (I showed her my 4 emails and 4 texts from their scheduling system confirming this appt) and that if I waited a little bit she promised Dr Adams would see me by 11:40. My daughter and I waited til 11:50 and got taken back to the room. There were 3 patients still ahead of me and a pharmaceutical rep that randomly walked that she promised to spend time with. I knew i wasn't going to get seen anytime soon.

I waited til 12:10 and gave up because I had another appt and needed to get my daughter home for her nap first. So I walked back to the receptionist and asked for a refund for my copay. She told me she can't do that and I need to wait for Dr. Adam's to finish with her current patient so she can come out and refund me. I waited some more (my 19 month old daughter was such a trooper). Dr Adam's finally came out and told me she was busy and couldn't refund me right now. I asked if when she does get around to it will I get an email confirmation. She said no, but she will call me later today. I asked her how could I trust that I will actually get refunded and she said "it's a two way street... I trust you to come in with money for a copay so you need to trust me that I will refund it."

I trusted her and paid her to see me on time.. I always give doctors an extra 30 min or so, not that I should have to, but I know that's the world we live in.... 1 hour and 20 min is absolutely unnacceptable. Last appt I waited over an hour and she blamed it on being away for a conference the week before. Today she blamed it on the holidays.. which were 7 weeks ago!

Dr. Adam's, stop blaming your lack of organizational and aministration skills and lack of decent staff on conferences and holidays! You have a nice beside manner and are a very nice person but today's entire experience was unacceptable and you know better.

I won't be back.
