I am having a hard time understanding why with three chronic illnesses all very painful, they won't authorize my pain medication to be filled. My doctor has even had meeting with them and they said I must first try massage therapy, chiropractor, and acupuncture. How is any of this relevant for internal organs? Are they suppose to massage my pancreas? Stick needles in it?? I am Pretty sure there is no bones in the pancreas to pop. I understand there are pain pill abusers out there but I am not one of them but unfortunately they seem to have the endless supply. I mean really! As a matter of fact I have been fighting illnesses since I was 9 yrs old and always refused narcotic pain medication because I was scared of what they may cause. I am to the point that my pain has become unbearable. I finally give in and decide to try it and I get denied. I know people on MDwise that abuse pain medication, I have seen people sell their medication and these are the people that have NO trouble obtaining them! It makes me angry.

I have been with them 5 years and never a problem with anything. Website is easy to use. People are nice. Everything runs smoothly with no hassles at all. They take care of all the financial issues without my needing to worry and I have many different doctors. Very happy with this insurance.

I have been trying since June for them to get me neurologist that they will pay for they just give me the run around all the while I'm reduced to multiple seizures every-day tremors and can Barley function from the fraking migraine I have daily. They just transfer you to different places only to end up back to them. Surprised no I told them that would happen. Sick of it I'm on 14 meds a day that dull the symptoms not take them away I'm only worse. Can they just help me?????

I filed a grievance with MDwise regarding a provider....and they did not contact me about their decision...the provider was in error...and MDwise did not follow thru...it was up to me to figure this out...no one ever contacted me...when I called they said, we're sorry we can't help you. If you have a provider associated with MDwise...you're screwed.

We have been receiving our HIP Plus coverage through MDWise. While not the worst it could be, in general I have not had the greatest experience with them. I occasionally get a very helpful, nice, professional rep on the phone when I call in (and when it happens it's an amazingly wonderful thing!), but more often than not I get someone who doesn't have a clue how to answer my questions, doesn't have access to the answer, or (just maybe) doesn't really want to help.

Their online payment system doesn't seem to have anyone monitoring it or fixing problems. Their efficiency in processing paperwork is astoundingly pitiful. (2 months and 3 calls just to get our medical cards). Expect ANYTHING moving through their system to take a long time.

The only real reason we are with them is that they were one of the few plans that our hospital system accepts fully for HIP. Their rewards system is somewhat bogus, as you have to reach goals of say, 50 points, in order to redeem for gift cards and your activities you do add up to 45 points, meaning they aren't worth anything until you get the 5 more that there is no activity for. Definitely would not use that as a reason to go with them.

On the positive side, I have never had trouble reaching them on the phone, usually I have very little to zero wait time. I have learned that you don't call on a Monday or a Saturday, and you get through very quickly.

They also issued our most recent statement late, which means our monthly payment due date gets delayed as well. Maybe a positive for some; I find it indicative of just how poor their efficiency and effectiveness is.

MDWISE Marketplace is consistently having problems...

MDWISE Marketplace is consistently having problems switching their service from 2014 to 2015. For most of January, their customers looked uninsured because policies that began Jan. 1, 2015 and were paid for by the members were not recorded in their system. The new 2015 policy didn't exist in the computer system and the old 2014 policy read "terminated". Customers were sent doctors bills from their doctors and required to pay the bills themselves. MDWISE just kept saying it was a "system error". Now clear into February they are showing that some customers are behind on their premiums when in fact they are not. MDWISE is still not recording that first premium for 2015 and declaring it a "system error". A member must wait on the phone for 60 minutes to get a representative on the line. That representative just keeps repeating "We will send this problem away for review to be fixed." I have called several times and they agree each time I am current and up to date on my premiums, but they can't get their computer system to reflect that. They just keep saying they will send it away to be fixed. Doctors offices and hospitals use their computer systems to see if a patient has active health insurance- so it can be a barrier to receiving care. If doctors office refuses to wait on hold for 60 minutes to ask if the patient is insured, the patient may look uninsured or behind on their premiums if the doctor's office uses the online computer system that doesn't function properly. It is a very unfair thing going on and no one will resolve it. Patients should not be paying for coverage and services and have the internet error show they are uninsured or behind on their premiums, when they are not.

GET OTHER INSURANCE. I have never had such problems with any other company I've dealt with. They should have paid a bill in July of 2014. Every time I have called, they have admitted that they should have paid and say that they will. Then we get off of the phone, and I later get a bill from the doctor's office. I have to call back, and we end up just repeating this process. It has now been 7 months and countless hours on the phone, and they have still not paid the bill. I cannot encourage you enough to go somewhere else. Also, if you call to sign up, you will get someone right away. When you call once you're already a member, you will wait 40 minutes to about an hour before you even speak to anyone, and they typically just say sorry and do nothing.

HIP+ has been a lifesaver for me. It covers my medications that would cost me over $1,200 per month as well as all my doctor visits, hospital stays and tests. I have a lot of health problems and knowing MDWise is there for me really eases my mind. My only reason for not giving five stars is the customer service. Lately, they are not very helpful or informative. They can't answer simple questions about coverage and the automated phone system is a nightmare. I wish they would change it so you could talk to someone directly who knew who you should be connected with that was knowledgeable and would answer your questions.

MDWise and HIP Plus has done a great job. I know a person who has another provider and has had nothing but problems. They takes care of my diabetic medication needs and preventative care matters to help keep me healthy. Thank you MDWise and HIP Plus for taking care of my medical needs.

I have had MDWise for 2 years and they are excellent and helpful in all ways. Their customer service is great and there is never a question of them paying what is covered. I am grateful to have MDWise!

MDWise has literally been a lifesaver for me! I'm an insulin-dependent diabetic (since 1997). For nearly 20 years while employed full-time, I paid what amounted to an extra car payment every month for insulin. My job was outsourced, and my wages cut in half. I finally was eligible for MDWise, and the stress of affording insulin has been lifted! My monthly premium is very reasonable, and I greatly appreciate that. Thank you!

Can t wait til my kids open enrollment period..I m leaving mdwise!! I had mdwise for years but I have nothing good to say about them anymore. My kids regular dr left mdwise and now I see why! So of course I was stuck with mdwise and unable to leave til my open enrollment period, ok fine whatever. So then They assigned us a new doctor that don t even accept mdwise! Then they send out another provider directory with more doctors who don t even accept mdwise! Then I get a list with a few doctors who do accept mdwise but will not accept any more new patients! Then when you do find a doctor who can actually see your children, it will be over a month before they can get an appointment! So I called mdwise and talked to a rep and a supervisor. I was on the phone and on hold on and off for over an hour dealing with them. They call the doctors to confirm that I guess I m not a liar as I sit on hold and said we found a doctor but it will take a month before you can get an appointment. In the end, what a waste of time. I guess someone to suppose to be looking into finding my kids a doctor but I won t hold my breath. More or less, my kid just needs to see the doctor for a simple thing like a skin rash but I m suppose to make her wait a month or go to emergency room...yeah mdwise cares!!! And they wonder why people abuse the e.r. ...here is why!!! Thanks mdwise!!!!

I am very happy with my health care insurance. If I hadn't had it I couldn't have had my open heart surgery last year and I wouldn't have been able to afford to pay for all my medications. Thank you MDWise.

Horrible horrible horrible insurance. I have kidney stone and urgent to see the doctors and urologist but nobody want to see me because of this MARKETPLACE insurance. Im in pain for a week now and cannot find anyone to see me. THIS IS SO UNFAIR! By the way , as I am writing this review im crying bec of horrible pain Im having everyday for a 8 days now.

I do appreciate the low cost insurance.... HOWEVER... the customer service has been terrible. I have Multiple Sclerosis and after PA denial and then an appeal, which was approved for my pain medication.... for some reason, it still won't go through at the pharmacy.
Also, my injections for my MS.. well, the generic was passed by the FDA, and even though the switch to the generic has been hell on me (one of the fillers or binders gives me seizure-like reactions), they still will not put me on the name brand. SO I REQUESTED TO SPEAK TO A PATIENT ADVOCATE OR MANAGER..... and was DENIED!!!!! That's perfectly fine, I will go to the ER every time I have one of these seizure-like reactions (which is 2 or 3 times a week) and every time I am in so much pain I can barely walk.

Been given the run around for a year now, trying to get reimbursed for a claim, repeatedly sent in paperwork, constantly told incorrect information. Constant so called escalations, promises to return calls, e-mails and still no closer to getting reimbursed. They claim to contact people but I check in and they have not contacted the person. Filing a complaint with the IDOI. There is no excuse this reimbursement should've taken a year, been getting the run around from this claims supervisor for months now.

Worst insurance company I've ever used. Need a prior auth for a medication and it always takes 2+ weeks instead of 72 hr max, doctor has to fax info many times for each PA and then mdwise says they can never find the fax, they lie and claim doc doesn't send it and wants them to fax again and again to different fax numbers. My doc is getting mad at me about it and this medication is very expensive so I can't buy it from pharmacy. Second PA (last month) was entered in wrong by mdwise for 2 pills a month instead of 2 pills a day and mdwise admitted their mistake and fixed this last month themselves but they didn't add in the refills so now I'm in the middle of another 2 week PA for third month in a row when first PA should've covered meds for 6 months at least! Mdwise doesn't pay for an emergency supply during the PA process either like other (decent) insurance companies do! Stay away from mdwise! Extremely unprofessional! Stuck with them for a year now, can't wait to switch insurance companies and it's only been 3 months!

Thank you MD wise you saved my life as I am a diabetic and was wondering how I was going to get coverage that I could afford, and then I signed for MD wise and it has kept me health and being able to pay for my meds, thanks

Very poor nobody informed me that they wouldn't be able to take me to my appointment on MLK day and now nobody is answering phone calls just playing the same voice recording over and not saying they are closed

Worst experience with any company I have ever had. Can prove husband has been covered but claims get denied. Every time we call supposedly getting taken care of but never does. Have sent 2 ltrs and still nothing. Next step to file complaint with Department of Insurance and Better Business Bureau. If there was a negative star I would pick that.

Have children on MDWise and have never had a problem with them or their service. Initially a doctor was assigned incorrectly, but one QUICK phone call later and it was fixed and new cards were mailed to me.

Horrible customer service. Called to have a claim reprocessed for my husband under my policy, which I have done many times with no issue, only to be told that he has to consent. That s fine, but why am I just now being told this when I ve called several times with no issue? Asked to speak to a supervisor, and that person was more rude than the flunky. I didn t want any personal information, all I wanted was for them to reprocess the claim, which MDWISE HAD INCORRECTLY PROCESSED AND WRONGLY DENIED TO BEGIN WITH!!!! The whole situation was completely their fault, but yet my husband who doesn t have time for this nonsense, has to call (probably an hour phone call) and get it fixed. Absolutely ridiculous. The supervisor told me probably ten times my husband had to call in, she treated me like I was stupid and she had absolutely no understanding of what my issue was. My problem was not about the consent, but the fact that I have called before and been helped with no problem having my husband s claim reprocessed!!!! Oh, and how about taking care of your customers who pay hundreds of dollars a month so that they don t have to call in and fix problems that aren t even their fault to begin with. Watch the MD Wise flunky who responds to this review tell me they can reprocess the claim once my husband consents. Rofl, I would die, this company won t see a dime of my money ever again. Stay away from them!!!!
