When I was in the room in the afternoon, it seemed that someone had gone to the wrong room and knocked the wrong door. After that, the cleaning staff seemed to have to knock on the door.
Good location and comfort

Stayed for three days and two nights, bitten at least two hundred bags by bed bugs, itching for a week or two
The room environment is still to be considered and it is not clean.
The service provided by the service staff is immediate and comfortable, but the hygienic environment is worth considering

We've stayed here previously (not all that long ago) and it was quite OK for a budget motel. We decided to stay here again as our budget was a little tight, but still paid a little more for this motel as we didn't want to stay somewhere extremely old and run-down.

This place has really taken a dive quickly. The rooms stink of cigarette smoke, it's obvious people are smoking in their rooms and it's coming through the ducted air conditioning (we assume). The managers do not care at all. They have done nothing to accommodate us or help us. They just suggested we cancel. We travelled 4 hours to get here to visit a relative that is unwell and didn't arrive until late at night. Where on earth are we supposed to go at this time? It's not just the cigarette smell, it's filthy. The foyer, the elevators, the rooms, the toilets, the sheets.

I don't normally write negative reviews as I usually believe that with a conversation most places would do what they can to assist. Not this place. Maybe the managers are just over it... I don't know.

It's also now full of druggies and sketchy looking people. I know they need a room too but it's really quite scary.

I won't ever be staying here again.

Great location. Staff were friendly and helpful but overall hotel felt quite dated and in need of a revamp. Our room was near the lift, as a result everytime someone used it we heard the rattling coming from the lift shaft. One of the lift doors was also partly faulty and took some time to open and close. Shower head was partly blocked and as a result shower was frustrating to use.

Stayed on a deal for 2 nights, had we have paid full price it would be 2 stars. Room was small and house keeping was a bit half done. Service was friendly. Breakfast was good, but again included in our package the full buffet. Bit run down in general and pool area was clean but scruffy. Probably wouldn't stay again especially if paying full price.

DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND. Where to begin. The staff are rude, the rooms look nothing like thier website and when I questioned it once again the staff were rude. The rooms smelt mouldy and musty. Would never stay there again.

The staff during daytime are a bit cold but still friendly. The rooms are large but feel old and rusty. Bad lifts. However, no other hotel can beat this hotel location and prices. This place should have an overall renovation then it would be perfect.

The room was clean, but the receptionist lack of smile. We got king sized room that contains towels, and 1 soap+1 shampoo, but you can ask fir more amenities at no cost. Breakfast start from $9.

Possibly one of the worst hotels I have ever staff at. Reverse cycle didn t work efficiently kept blowing cool air in Winter, had to turn it off, luckily ordered an extra blanket and had a jumper to wear to bed. Room was dated, upgrade worthless, couldn t use the spa due to the coldness of the room, terrible view, curtain broken, window to bathroom doesn t close, so even colder in Winter, kettle zapped is and wouldn t turn on, got a replacement. I m reasonably and rarely ever complain but this is Australia not overseas or in some remote country, will never stay again and would NOT recommend - pay the extra and stay somewhere much nicer. NOT happy, Great Southern Hotel (Owner) - you need to step up to the competition even at the same price - I have done way better. Disgusting & disappointing... location and staff were the only thing that was good, embarrassing for them a review like this.

This was a great stay. They have apparently renamed it and possible rebranded it. Our room was bigger than rooms in sydney. American size king size and roll away. Very clean. And the location u can not beat for the price. This hotel is walking distance from a mall, South Bank, fast food, train station. It was perfect and plan to come again. We only stayed 2 night but next would love to stay longer. We did purchase the room with a view so our view was amazing.

We stayed in a standard king room. It was HUGE with plenty of room. The ensuite was a bit small for the size of the room. The furnishings, carpet and paint were very outdated but they are in the process of renovating.

Great value for money considering the location and the room being very functional, just not visually appealing due to outdated style.

Room was clean bar a little bit of mould in the bathroom, but nothing major.

Staff were also friendly and welcoming.

We would definitely stay here again.

Run down & old, worn out funiture & stained carpets, smelly, aircon problems-either cold or can't cool room down, took all night after a warm day-not a hot day.
Bring your own essentials. Only 1 towel each & so thin. Sheets were good, bed not comfortable.
Felt like it could have been used as a youth hostel. Photos didn't match the reality of our room. Staff friendly.
Close to some shops and supermarket.
Didn't look forward to returning to hotel each day-3 days.
Needs a lot of work, reviews said 4 star, who in the what have it that rate.

The floor was disgusting. When my partner plugged his phone charger into the wall socket next to the bed, it blew smoke and is now unusble. It was charging just fine on the other side of the room before we went to bed. The hotel staff was misleading as to say we would be reimbursed for the cost of the charger. The charger was a dual and not cheap. Quite rude of the hotel blaming the charger being deffective and offering no compensation at all. When it blew smoke, it tripped the whole room so all other electronics shut down ie;tv, lights, aircon. I am disgusted at the customer service. The towels in our bathroom had markings on them pervious to us checking in. I would NEVER stay in this hotel again. Absolutely waste of money.

well first my name is craig stevens, when my wife and I chose to stay here after 10 great years together we thought we would get a nice clean room, with a sink for the $249 per night price, what we got was SOMEBODY ELSE'S DIRTY G STRING ON THE FLOOR, makes me think if the room was cleaned at all, WILL NEVER COME BACK AND WOULD NOT TELL ANY FRIENDS TO STAY THERE- JOKE

Parking your vehicle here costs you an extra $25.00 per day. That's not something that's shown on their website, bit of a trap really.
Car parking spots are small and if you have a large/tall vehicle your in trouble. Decor in the lobby and rooms dated and tired. Ventilation system not working properly in my room , so you either froze in the morning or cooked later in the day if it was warm outside. Don't even get a toaster in your room. I found the noise from George St and the Expressway challenging when trying to go to sleep.
Overall disappointed.

My experience the Great Southern Hotel in Brisbane...

My experience the Great Southern Hotel in Brisbane was a very pleasant facility at an affordable price. However a $100 fee is required before booking this can be paid in cash or via credit card pre approval. The credit card pre-approval may take a few days to be returned cash is returned instantaneously. Other than that I appreciate it be able to choose whether I had a high room or a low room. So I chose hi room and got a gracious view of the Brisbane river, Southbank and seven news merry go round. I will definitely stay here again

I check inn and was ask, do you know how much the room was online? at first i thought it was a joke and i didnt see a smile so i told them and they got a room for me that was nothing like the pictures online. Over price for one night, car park was so tinny enough for minis to be parked and was one was in.... so we went to our room and within 10minutes the fire alarm goes on at first I thought it was just a fire drill, nop it wasn't so I grab my bag and race out the door and a lady from the room next door raced out to and we ask ourselves what was going on, we didn't get a message to tell us what was happening, as we waited outside the lift a water pipe burst in the main corridor and there was water everywhere so I had to call the reception and tell them about it, and we went downstairs and I ask the manager what was wrong and he responded "oh its faults alarm" next minute fire brigades come running in, my goodness I have never experience anything like that in my life...... after every was over we went to our rooms and at night before we got into the bed there was another problem, the so call bed/mattress was like a rock, the base was covered with a fitted sheet and the actual mattress was covered with a flat sheet and the bed was leaning on its side, even when we put a orange it rolled off, what an experience.... we did not sleep that well as the next doors with the loud sex and the guest so loud on the corridor all I wanted was to get out of there ASAP, the room was so untidy we got sick after that stay so im sorry but never again, you can change your name but unless you change the rooms will see a difference...... the only thing good about this place is the staff they tried their best....

On arrival we were greeted by friendly and professional front desk team. Late check outs are charged only $10 per hour and can be as late as 1pm, which I believe is very good value for money. However once in our standard queen room we discovered the furniture, including bedding and mattress, were well past their used by date. We also found the standard queen room to be extremly small, dark amd claustrophobic. We requested and were granted an upgrade to a king river view room and paid.the difference. Unfortunately the furniture, including the heavily stained and ripped up mattress, were extremely past their used by date. Cupboards, walls, fixtures and fittings were heavily marked and worn. Room was very dusty throughout. Air Conditioning had no temp control as it was faulty. Hot water was also unavailable for a period during the evening. Great view from king river view room although Windows were filthy which really took away from the beautiful Brisbane river view. Overall staff were friendly but certainly would not stay again. Over priced, out dated, poorly laid out dirty rooms. Much better options available in the Brisbane CBD.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I would give this establishment a zero but I give it a 1 star for the delicious breakfast. I made a booking in May 2017 for a few nights' stay in March 2018 including breakfast, the booking confirmation asks for the usual credit card details, also stating a 0.5% credit card surcharge.. I received an email after my stay to say that they will charge my credit card as I haven't paid. It was odd considering the front counter told me on check in that I've paid for everything. I had to ask for our breakfast vouchers for a start. Their payment demand email didn't have a reconciliation statement and just told me to check my bank statement (almost a year's worth) even though I asked for it. I made a couple of payments whist staying there including payment at check out. They still could not produce a statement. Jacqie explained that there was a glitch in their system that's why the payment at booking did not go through. I asked that because this was an error on their part, could they waive the surcharge and she said she can't do anything as it's automatic. I then asked if I could deposit their bank account (bank account details are posted on their website) directly to avoid the credit card surcharge. She did not reply and I woke up this morning to find out that she took the money out of my credit card AND charged me a surcharge of 1.5%! Which is triple the surcharge that was on my booking confirmation from last year. I am writing a letter of complaint to the ACCC today. Not only did they charge triple the surcharge, they also overcharged me for breakfast. AVOID THIS HOTEL, there are hundreds of hotels in the area.

Nice hotel to stay at in Brisbane. Close to everything, Southbank just a short stroll over the river. Only trouble with the Great Southern Hotel, the overnight stay was just not long enough. Next time it will be a longer stay.

The room was of reasonable quality. Sadly there is a major construction project occuring across the road. Which is very loud. On top of this the hotel had renovation work going on. Directly beneath the room I was trying to sleep in. Resulting in the worst hotel experience I have encountered. The staff gave a half hearted apology about it. I won't be back and definitely do not recommend this hotel.

Terrible Shower spraying everywhere but in the middle no shower caps, one little tiny bit of soap that falls through the soap holder, shower spraying out the door so the bathroom is soaked and no fan, requested queen bed and arrived and it's two singles asked to rectify came back to room and still singles, not a happy couple, when you only get away occasionally, one blanket in winter I was freezing,on top of price you have to pay for wifi and parking, won't be staying there again

Really nice stay here, very clean rooms and excellent staff - always very helpful and went the extra mile to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Really good location, near shops and short walk to the bridges to south bank.
Would recommend this to anyone on a budget or looking for a great location in the city.

Would rate 1/2 star if I could! My husband and I decided to stay at this hotel as we were going to an event at Riverstage.
The hotel states it has parking for guests at an additional $25, so I rang before making the booking to confirm that we will be guaranteed a park. The lady said 'we have 99 rooms and 44 parks, and in the years I've worked here we have never run out of parks. You will be fine getting a car park ma'am, just ring when you're on your way in.' I booked the hotel on that positive, helpful advice.
On check-in day I rang to find out what car park we were in, and Sanjay said 'sorry we only have 3 parks left, I suggest you park at Myer Centre.' After a 30 minute debate, and no help whatsoever I asked to be put through to his Manager. Jacqui apologised for the inconvenience and wrong information provided, said they can refund the full amount, but that didn't help us. That left us with no accommodation. I asked if she could put a RESERVE sign on one of the 3 parks, but she then said they were all gone (this was in the period of about 5 minutes). After more debate she said that a tradesman was leaving at 4.30pm, so I asked her to put a RESERVE sign on that park. She said ok but still can't guarantee the park for us. My husband ended up having to pay for street parking for an hour or so, and then followed up to find out when a park was available. When he checked in, there was another couple having a similar argument with reception about a car park. They were saying they'd stayed here before and never had this trouble and won't be staying again.
Apart from the car park saga and no help from staff, the bed was rock hard, the shower head had such poor pressure and sprayed everywhere, apart from on your body it seemed. We were put in room 607 and all night could hear the lifts going up and down so we didn't have a good night's sleep. Plus the room was average and needs a bit of an upgrade/clean.
My husband had to provide credit card details on check in (which is normal), and was advised that the $100 pre-authorisation will be charged to our credit card but will be credited back on check out. I rang to confirm this with the hotel who then told me we won't get the money back for at least 7-14 days.
I'm not one to make complaints, but this was worthy of a complaint as I wouldn't want anyone else to experience such unprofessional and rude service. It was such a shame and let down.

Good value for the price. Check-in fine. Good sized room. Room and linen were clean, bed comfortable. Good location, with several Asian eateries in area and hand to shops, offices. Only a few things needed attention, such as a gap between wall and skirting board in a corner, but nothing that detracted from stay.

Bad .. They made us wait for 4 hours . I called them for early check in but nobody picked up the call at the reception. On arriving I told them that I tried calling you guys for early check in but they gave exactly the same answer which I saw in other review (we were very busy) . Further there was no apology on their face and instead they gave us cheap Internet access which was super slow. I don't know about their other branches but i am writing about the one on george street.
