Great snow conditions, even though it hadn't snowed in a couple weeks, we still managed to find some fresh stashes after hiking off the top of knob chair. No crowds even on a weekend in mid March, loved the food and pints on the mountain under the sun.

Great hill. Lots of variety in the terrain and runs. Definitely something for everybody. Appreciate how much horizontal space some of the runs have. Snow is great quality. Only qualm is the bottleneck/cluster that occurs where the two lifts are side by side.

i love coming here!! one of the best mountains i have boarded on and its great! they keep really good care of the runs and try to open every run as soon as there is enough snow on the hill. the staff are great and i think the prices are reasonable

Pros: all facilities are present, the shop has good stuff and there's a nice variety of slopes and no waiting lines. Cons: a bit small scale and no apres ski.
Good to know: literally everything closes around 16:00 but the shuttle to Jasper leaves at 15:45 and 17:00.

Definitely my least favourite of the hills I've been to in Alberta. The hill itself has spectacular views, but the runs are laid out in such a strange way, nothing like the long trails at Lake Louise and Nakiska. The absence of grooming the runs led to huge difficulties for skiers everywhere after a night that saw a foot of dense heavy snow come down. Filthy washrooms.

Best ski resort of the Country and all North America. Simply amazing. The price is cheaper than other resorts in Alberta, the slopes are easy for begginers and challenging for experts and the food courts are good enough to spend a splendid day.

Even 4 hrs away I consider myself a regular. This hill never disappoints. For a tourist you may not be drawn to the quiet quaintness of Jasper but this hill has it all and won t disappoint.
If you have beginners or nervous skiers there is a great lesson program / segregated hill . They can then graduate to a modest run near the chalet with its own shirt lift to build confidence to take on the mountain. Even up top there are less intimidating ways to ski out if the black diamonds aren t your thing.

With two lodges to enjoy..you can have a full day taking in the runs and find convenient breaks at lower or mid mountain.

To save a few bucks we always pack a lunch. Sit in the basement of mid-mountain since it s always less crowded, has a fountain and microwave and also near the bathrooms.
A true ski in/out.

Keep an eye on events they may be hosting...often get lucky with live music outside the lodge with contests.

And Always have a a Caesar.

Marmot Basin: a 'once in a lifetime' experience?!

Marmot Basin: a 'once in a lifetime' experience?!

Marmot Basin is a little resort, with good runs and few people skiing there for most of the time. It is located near Jasper and offers a great and scenic mountain view. It could be a nice, even though not a cheap experience. It could but the two days of skiing did not totally satisfy me.

I headed out to Marmot Basin on a cloudy day looking forward to a great powder day. I rented my skis and bought the ticket. I then headed out to find most of the lifts closed. Only a flat school run was open. If you enjoy skiing on a hill as steep as the Great Plains, that's the place to go. Weather is always part of the game and strong winds are troublesome for any chair lift. No question about that. So I can see that point of closing the lifts.

But: I felt like having bought a ticket for a cruise and then finding myself on a boring one-day boat trip. And yes, I was quite disappointed. The cashier sold me a full day pass, knowing that most of the lifts were closed at that time.

One chair lift opened shortly before midday, which made at least some black runs with great powder accessible but still leaving most of the mountain closed. All in all not worth the money I paid for the pass.

I decided to head out to the guest service the next morning to see what could be done about that. I was then referred to come back in the afternoon to talk to the manager. When I got there for a second time I was blocked off by one of the cashiers: 'I should have come yesterday and normally they don't grant a refund or anything etc.. Now you know that for the next time'. Is that what you call a good guest service?

Well, I don't! Every governmental agency has a better costumer service than Marmot Basin.

It's kinda creepy selling a full priced ticket, knowing that most of the mountain is shut down at that time (and will remain shut down throughout the day). And it's even bolder if the manager isn't even ready to take the complaint the next day and think about any kind of compensation. Poor performance on that!

So yes Marmot Basin truly was a 'once in a lifetime' experience. I am disappointed by the poor guest service and the poor experience I payed a lot of money for. One thing is for sure: I'll never come again and I cannot recommend that resort to anybody. Take the extra miles and head for Lake Louise, Revelstoke, Golden or some of the other awesome resorts fairly close by. You will definitely enjoy it a lot more.

If you want to pay more for less: Marmot Basin is the place to go.

Out of 5 stars I will award 2.
Deducting 3 each for:
- poor day of skiing w/ most lifts closed and w/o any compensation
- disappointing guest service, not worth it's name
- ticket prices slightly over the top for the experience the resort has to offer

Sweet hill.

Sweet hill.
Has a really good flow to it.
Knob chair is pretty epic terrain.
Lots of runs u can only get to by hiking if u r more adventurous.
I like how they made the carparks all at ski out locations so u don't have to walk much. Also u ski from car parks down to the ticket area. Really neat design.
Trees are also perfectly spaced and not too tight for forest riding .

Incredible ski hill. Runs are well maintained, and groomed in the mornings. Even on a long weekend when all the parking was full, there was never a wait at the lifts, and the hills werent busy.

It was our first time non-Europeen snow. It was amazing! Snowboarding in Marmot basin is so much more back to nature. Back to the essential spirit of snowboarding: just me, the mountain and the snow.
We had a lot of fresh snowfall and the most perfect powder snow. What an experience, but a killer for my legs! What I really liked, was the free skiing and bowl skiing. This is so different than the slopes in Europe. Staff was so friendly and helpfull.
Only thing I disliked: just two lifts had a bar to rest your board on. The other lifts were a leg- and feetkiller. Since there were no bars, you could not let your feet rest. But all the rest was just amazing. We'll be back!

Go to destination for mountain trips. This place has a little of everything, and they just opened a second terrain park. Doesn't usually have any powder stashes unless you plan to hike but for tree runs its one of the best.

Great runs, helpful staff and friendly atmosphere made for a wonderful experience! The views from the upper levels of the mountain are spectacular! Well worth the visit and will be back!

Great day skiing but only 4 stars because we saw ZERO MARMOTS, should change the name to No Marmots here at the basin. Other than that everything was great, would still like to see a marmot tho

This is definitely the best ski resort in Alberta and I've come back year after year since I was a baby just to experience it again. Marmot Basin beats alp of the hustle and traffic of Lake Louise, Banff, and Sunshine, with the same if not better snow conditions. If you're from Edmonton or anywhere else in northern Alberta this is 100% worth the drive.

Great time skiing! Rental and lift lines moved really quickly and there s great variety for riders of different skill levels! A little pricier than other places but the views definitely make up for it

Always a fun place to go to start the season. Have been really lucky to have fresh powder the last couple of trips with very little ice. Runs are wide, uncrowded, and most important of all for a snowboarder, no flat spots! Food on the hill is ok but not a lot of healthy options. Marmot may not be the biggest hill with the most challenging runs (looking at you Kicking Horse) but it's a great place to go for some relaxing runs.

Really nice ski mountain for the whole family. There is plenty of single and double black diamond train for those that like to pursue more extreme runs, well those who don't can enjoy some really nice smooth sailing on a variety of blue and green runs. The parking setup could be a little more convenient but the staff at the hill as a fantastic job of making it work really smoothly. Recommend if you can bring in your own food because as you would expect the food on the hill is somewhat expensive.

Marmot has always been my favorite ski hill. Great runs, great high speed quad chairs. You never have to take the same route down. Ski out / ski in parking and 2 full service chalets. Lift tickets have gotten expensive but overall always worth it.

Love marmot everytime me and my family goes. It's close to jasper which is great for staying over moght and going for a few days. Rentals are super easy to get and really well places in reference to the hill. You can just get onto the hill right after you receive rentals so you don't have to carry your skis all over. When it comes to parking it's just as good. There is lots and you can ski to and from the parking lot. The chalet is a decent size and offers tons of great food. I would recommend this hill to anyone. It even has a little area where the hill isnt so harsh for the people who are just starting.

Being the only ski resort in the Jasper National Park area that's relatively close and within driving distance from Edmonton, there is no reason not to like it. There are plenty of runs to suit all levels of skiers and enough snow to offer decent skiing in early spring
