It's one of the iconic theatres of Russia and watching a ballet or a opera is totally worth it. I watched a ballet there and the arrangement of seats makes you wonder the precision with which the architects built the theatre. The performance of the artists was no lesser as the musical orchestra immaculately timed themselves to the dancers who beautifully enacted a tragic tale in the space of 2 and a half hours. Amazing experience for any art lover.

A must, if you stay in St. Petersburg, especially the view from the Tsar's box ..... fantastic ....

Theater splendid and very evocative. Seats comfortable and relatively easy to find, even if you do not know the language. Masks kind and helpful, although very often they did not speak English and tended to be rushed. The only flaw is that immediately after the show the theater emptied, the lights went out and they started to close. So, if you are interested in the shop or to see the room with the clothes and photos of some famous dancers, you should do it during the intervals, which last about 20 minutes.

I watched and listened to the opera Sadko. There were problems with the microphones. Some soloists were hard to hear

The most spectacular scenario of St. Petersburg, here I could enjoy the most famous ballet in the world, the Swan Lake. Another dream of my life that is fulfilled.

Fabulous experience watching the Bolshoi and Swanlake

Excellent!!! Very beautiful theater! The actors are just wonderful. I watched "Faust", really liked it. And most importantly, the atmosphere is fascinating. I liked everything very much, I recommend to go.

We went with the school on a tour, very interesting and cool. We visited places where it is usually impossible to visit) But the performances were disappointing. From 3 performances, I liked 1! In the ballet, the actors danced out of sync, and maybe I don t understand something of course, but the modern productions were terrible for me.

Dream place and unforgettable show. Just do not go dressed as a tourist. You have to go to gala

Just stunning, sitting in the front row in the Mariinsky Theater ... set design and features lush than I've ever seen. The singers and the Philharmonic cause goose bumps. The stage technology spectacular, an experience of a special kind

Strange build exterior but it's rather nice inside. Acoustic, unfortunately, is not great. Performance (Iolanta) was nice.

We went to Eugene Onegin. We liked it a lot, much better than in Moscow. We sat at the top, tickets for 1000 rubles, everything is clearly visible. They took a little binoculars for 150 rubles. The hall is full, there were almost no more seats.

Honestly, I liked the play and the place.
In the historic building, everything is neat, clean and the service is excellent. The World famous theater is on a list"must see during SP visit"!

If you like ballet you will probably come to Pieter just to come here, as this is the temple of classical ballet. Tickets are quite expensive, but it's worth the cost to come over, the theatre itself is a museum and it's one of those "once in a lifetime experiences" that given the chance is good to have.

Its a beautiful place to visit for a tourist. Situated in the Theater Square 1.. Both old and new theater and next to each other. Make sure to check which play is on the card. Online bookings are preferred.

The staff needs to speak a little English to assist foreign tourists. The theater is not heated. It felt very hot during the whole function.

Aside from the ballet, it's a great place to see, but it's the most recommended travel item in St. Petersburg.

A "must go place" when you are here for culture. Historical place with an own touch and flavor. Always be earlier than just in time, as doors to the balconies, but as well to the ground floor seating will get closed and leaving clothes with the "Garderobe" definitely takes an extra amount of time.

Great theater! Wonderful talented opera actors, colorful scenery, chic costumes, a virtuoso symphony orchestra - all together create an amazingly realistic atmosphere that allows the viewer to fully immerse themselves in the plot of the opera, in the times and life of the picture. Watched "The Tale of Tsar Saltan", Bravo!

Saw a great show off two one act ballets. One only show two days a year!

Very beautiful theater! And very comfortable chairs. Sleeping was very comfortable! And if without jokes, then interesting ideas.

I love the old scene, even if the tickets are more expensive, not everywhere in the buffet you can pay with a card (only at the lower level), but there is an ATM at the entrance.

If you are visiting at Peterburg for few days then during a week it is possible to get tickets to a show (even to tsar's box) at the same day.

One of the best theaters in St. Petersburg !! Of course, this is a very old performance hall where you can see that the heyday is a long time ago. There are many performances in the winter, but even in the summer we went through a tremendous ticketing war to book a swan lake. Even though it was summer, I wore a dress well ... The locals were well dressed, so it was good that my formal dress was not embarrassing, but I was embarrassed because there were even people who wore hiking clothes. The performance itself was very good, and I listened to the swan lake very hard. In fact, I didn't have much chance to see the ballet, so I decided to sit in a good seat. ... apparently it wasn't urgent contact or just searching for an celebrity article. A German gentleman sat next to me, but it was hard because I couldn't distinguish Asians. Of course I told you that I'm from another country ..... Well, why do you use your smartphone while watching the wonderful performance in that wonderful venue ???? Why would you buy that expensive seat ????? There are some people who are recording on the table .... If it wasn't the manners of the spectators, the performance itself was satisfactory, and I returned to Korea and went to see the Nutcracker someday. I've been searching for ballet performances since I never knew ballet after this performance. If you go to St. Petersburg, it is a must! Make it as cool as possible ~ (Climbing suit is Nono !!! The venue is not a mountain !!!) I went out in August and I'm out of construction, but I'm always familiar with Europe anytime. ^^ I'll go back to see the completed building someday !!!

Beautiful theater, we watched The Nutcracker, which was also a fantastic ballet performance. We managed to watch it almost on the day of the 125th annual premiere, which made our visit even more special.

A excellent and wonderful theatre. I felt I'm being in something special.

An opera experience comparable to world theaters. The Russian look is stunning. All maximalist. Many people, many scenarios, a lot of movement. Splendor.

Quaint place with period architecture and interiors

One of the most comfortable operating experiences I've ever had. Comfortable seats, speakers to provide the music even while you're not in the auditorium. The opera was Carmen.

Dreamed of going to the Marinsky to see the ballet; got to do it, wasn't disappointed.

A beautiful, stylish, historic theater, or rather an opera, with a tsar's box. Excellent acoustics ... and uncomfortable chairs for commoners, that is for us (tickets for Mazepa Tchaikovsky for about PLN 20). On the other hand, during a break in the buffets, you can enjoy a cheap glass of champagne and snacks, a caviar sandwich.

Prince Igor. Old scene. Beautiful theater. Beautiful opera. Amazing scenery. Excellent ventilation for an old building. However, it is difficult to sit for 4 hours in a chair. Plus, nothing is visible on the second row balconies.

Wonderful theater in Saint Petersburg. One of the most important in Russia and even in the world. It's home of Mariinski Philharmonic's Orchestra and its splendorous ballet. I watched a presentation of the famous The Nutcracker, a famous piece by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and I really became impressive with that show. Amazing.

Great old theatre - make sure you read which group/ company is performing as it changes veey often. Dont assume its the best of best ballerinas.

What an amazing theatre. I booked online for The Nutcracker using their website, from the UK. Printed off my ticket. Arrived 45 mins early today and it was plenty of time. You go through the main doors, through security. I had belle etage seats and there is a clockroom, bar and loo on the floor. They unlock the door to your seats circa 10 mins before the performance starts.
I was worried it would be really hot in the theatre, but the temperature was perfect. I was wearing short sleaves.
View from belle etage level was amazing. It's actually quite a small theatre, or rather, it feels lovely and intimate. I was offered opera glasses by the coat check lady but you dont need them.
Wonderful decor. Luxurious.
The only downside is the lack of Metro nearby. I got off at Sadovaya which is a bit of a walk. I think a new line is being built called Teatralnaya, which will be amazing. I will definitely book here again....and how rude of me, the performance was amazing. World class ballet and orchestra

The Mariinsky Theater (old stage) is a legendary place. Was at the ballet "Petrushka".
Theater begins with a wardrobe. There are many of them in the Mariinsky Theater, you don't have to stand in line for a long time.
Clean toilets. The hall is delightful: interior, decoration, acoustics, atmosphere. Comfortable chairs in the stalls.
The ballet is wonderful: performers' perfected movements, colorful decorations, a magnificent orchestra.

Magnificent theater, not in need of advertising! Beautiful interior decoration. True, instead of chairs we found chairs) We went to the opera Aida, all the performers heard well, beautiful declarations and costumes.

Fantastic! Watched ballet 'Kopcop' and it's amazing. Definitely need to watch ballet here when visiting St. Petersburg.

Very beautiful room, hall. Fabulous chandeliers hang in the hall. We went to Eugene Onegin together with friends from the Netherlands, they liked the fact that there are screens above the stage on which the text in English is duplicated.

Worth visiting even if you are not the biggest fun of ballet and opera. Make sure you go to the old theatre - to feel yourself as a king

Were in a marinka 2. Decorated adhering to the old format, but in a modern style, everything is beautiful. The walls of the lobby in the form of amber with lighting are very original. Clear navigation.

Lovely building and amazing performance. One of the premier locations in the world to see ballet at its best.
Could improve on the small things:
Queues to toilets were massive- not enough toilets for visitors during break.
Drinks and food could only be bought using cash. I don t know many people carrying cash nowadays.
Chairs in circles rather uncomfortable.

WONDERFUL!!!! it is a MUST BE! Pay attention: buy the tickets in the ticket selling points in the City, the prices in St.Petersburg are one tenth than those sold in internet to foreigners.

Beautiful, excellent acoustics, excellent modern scenery. Listened to the opera, the first time. In full delight!

Had my socks blown off. Splendid theatre. Small passage ways and corridors around the upper balcony and a little dimly lit in places but it is old and the splendour of the theatre hall is really what the building is about. That and the productions, which impressed greatly and well.

I saw La forza del destino, originally written for the opening of the Mariinsky by Verdi. Great sets and the orchestra were sublime.

Best insider tip: find out when the intermissions are before the show starts then go to the bar/cafe and place your champagne& caviar or coffee /pastry orders - prepay and you'll be assigned one of the few tables in the cafe. That way you will be assured a drink during the break and you'll avoid the 15 -20 minute lines

The performances are remarkable.
Sometimes the ballerinas drop, well, where it does not happen.
But today, out of praise, the administrative staff of the old theater came forward.

Nothing surprising here I will not write, ordinary indifferent evil people. They just work in the theater.

Our story:
We bought tickets, came to Tsar Saltan.

Not guessed with places, it was hard to see and only 1/4 of the scene from the edge. So offensive!

It turns out you could ask the administrator to transplant. We did not know and came to pray when the play has already begun. And it was necessary before the beginning.
We were offered to wait 1.5 hours of the intermission and then transplant.

It's great that we bought tickets to look at the curtains!

And, and the administrator twice indicated that we have preferential tickets and we can not count on the human attitude.

In general, the theater is in sight, but inside is the usual sovdep with lazy indifferent staff.

We went for a walk under the snow and drink coffee and cakes and did not wait for the intermission. Disappointment is the strongest.

The Mariinsky Theater is beautiful, the Swan Lake ballet is magnificent. It was disappointing that you can buy a program and have a snack in the buffet only for cash, but we are somehow used to the fact that everywhere you can on the card and did not take cash with you.

The ballet show was great and it's a beautiful theatre but the seating is terrible. Many seats have bad view as it's old chairs that are not staggered correctly which means most of the time you're stuck with watching the back of someone's head. The boxes on the sides probably got the best views.
