Mariinsky Theatre Review

Very good! We went to the opera "Nightingale" in the daytime. Only for 450 rubles per person. So the pleasure is available to everyone.

All the history is in Wikipedia, but what I want to say is that you can easily purchase e-tickets through clear website performance information. The performance level is very high, the theatre design is very good, the sound quality of the music transmission is great, and the drinks, cakes and guided seating services provided by the in-house bar and the guide are of a high standard.

The most breathtaking theatre I have ever seen. Sent to see the ballet on the balcony and we couldn't have gotten better seats! What a magical experience !

Plus there is also an exhibition about the ballet at the foyer with some gifts and souvenirs to take home.

Absolutely recommend spending an evening here to watch the ballet - an absolute highlight of our trip!

We enjoyed the "Nutcracker" and, beyond the show we had the opportunity to attend, which we loved, the theater is spectacular. One of the symbols of the performing arts in Russia, and which has a huge success story behind it, is well worth visiting.
We were in one of the boxes, but we were struck by the fact that these are chairs in the stalls.
The program was not included with the ticket. And the bathrooms are arranged in a somewhat strange way (there are only women on the second floor).

Ummm ... the 3rd tier is terrible. Hard backs, you are sandwiched between people, there is absolutely no place for legs.

Were on the performance "Director of the Theater" the performance was not impressed, the story is completely mediocre, short, but for acquaintance of the child (and the adult) with the Mariinsky and the opera is very good. The play is only an hour, but the theater itself is beautiful!

Watched a ballet and opera in the old house and a concert in the new house. Very good performance and good value for the money. Good to know is that it is a bit to walk between the theater and new concert hall. A test both sitting at the highest row and close to the scene. Next time I would select to only take the better places. It is worth it.

We had a lovely evening out to a beautiful ballet performance in this amazing theatre. Only pity: it seems they cramped in an extra row of chairs and getting to your place was very troublesome.

Mariinka deservedly is one of the great theater and ballet venues of the country. The old scene is inferior in comfort and acoustics of the new, in my opinion. Still, it's better to come by taxi. With parking - trouble ... From the point of view of the theatrical program and quality - a matter of taste. Professionalism at a high level.

Was in the new building, what to say, very beautiful, clean, spacious halls. Look at the site schedule, for certain days in the foyer of Stravinsky there are free concerts.

It's extraordinary, the opera act was very special and unique! I recommend booking the cheapest tickets as the language is mainly Russian and no translation was provided, the view from above is not the best but I don't recommend paying much on the tickets! We were allowed to take photos and videos. Highly recommended to experience an opera act!

Beautiful theatre with beautiful performances. You get a real sense of theatrical history in here. I saw the Nutcracker and it was sensational.

A chic theater, a chic ballet, but the price tag is oversized

Watched the sleeping beauty, it was like a dream. The sets, the performance the musicians everything was so amazing.

The trouble with parking, Excellent theater, very beautiful, well, the chairs are not very comfortable so everything flows on them, and the running line didn t translate everything, it was so easy to notice (the opera was in Italian), the acoustics were good on the balcony of the second tier the middle of the front row is clearly visible.

The ballet at the Mariinsky is incomparable. The best ballet in the whole world can only be at the Mariinsky Theater. There are cheap tickets for daytime performances (they are much cheaper, but they are lower than the age limit, so there may be many children in the hall)

We watched "The Wedding of Figaro", a good production. Very cozy and beautiful theater.

A decadent theatre design which you can see on a tour but watching a performance, whether you enjoy the ballet or not, it is worth the when in Rome experience.

Catherine the Great established the Opera and Ballet troupe in 1783 but it wasn t until 1860, and three successors later, that the home for this troupe was officially established at the newly built Marinsky Theatre. Opened by Emperor Alexander II it was named after his wife Maria.

Beautiful ballet. A must place in St. Petersburg. You have to buy tickets a lot earlier. I do not think I should go to St. Petersburg specifically for Aida.

We watched "La Bayadere", Benoir, 1 tier. A completely different impression of the ballet. All dancers are at arm's length. The performance is very elegant, the costumes are beautifully executed! Mariinka she is Mariinka - number one!

Amazing old ballet theatre. You can easily book tickets at a reasonnable price, even a few days before the show. It is pretty small inside so you see the stage from everywhere. They have a free cloackroom and rent binoculars if yu need them (i did not use them)

One of the most famous and beautiful theaters in the world. I had the luck and pleasure of watching a ballet, or rather the ballet, Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky. Absolutely extraordinary. A truly intimate and exciting atmosphere. I highly recommend it to everyone.

The most spectacular cultural experience this. The original theatre is a sight to see in its own right. Grand and just takes you back in time. We got to see Shurale when we visited and it was awesome. We sat in the first tier next to the emperor's box and the view was excellent,try to get into the first row. They have chairs instead of fixed seating here so moderately flexible to get a better view of needed. The care here is excellent with some good desserts and drinks choices , if possible book in advance so you have a table with your order ready for the break so you don't have to queue and hurry up in the end. The old theater, an ideal place to listen to opera. Of course, because of all this grandeur of the interior, a modern person (for the most part) feels at ease. But from a historical point of view, it is very interesting to see, to study as they did before, to compare with new halls.
The buffet, by the way, is very expensive.

Everybody who loves Ballet and architecture has to come to this place - words can not describe - you have to experience!

A wonderful theatre. We saw Giselle here and it was a magical evening. I would highly recommend it and that you book tickets on-line before travelling as you can get a better deal and seats where you want.

But I have a little advice: do not take a place on the last tier. It is very stuffy there. They won t be able to rest there, because at one fine moment you may no longer have enough air. And no, I have no problem with that. I am an ordinary person. But all visitors came out with red faces during the intermission.

I like to see the orchestra pit and stage in full view, and not sit in a crowd of people who sometimes shine with phones and step on their feet, so I prefer a mezzanine or a balcony in the company of friends.

If you want to see the classical Russian opera house in the best performance, then come as possible here, on the historical stage of the Mariinsky Theater. Yes, it is difficult to get tickets and sometimes you need to buy them for a month, but the pleasure from magnificent voices, impressive scenery and great music is worth it. tl; dr: in the Mariinsky, instead of Faust, I recommend going to Onegin.

I do not recommend to go to the local "Faust" to those who are just acquainted with the opera. The production resembles Hollywood film adaptations of the classics in which circumcision, simplification and modern political fashion put the message of the work and perception of the characters on its head. The performance is unlikely to cause any conceived emotional response from the new viewer.

Subtitle translation plays a cruel joke: the text on the screen in places directly contradicts the scene - from the description of clothes to the floor of one of the characters. I recommend to read a summary of the program (with comments regarding the director's innovations), and avoid subtitles.

Well, unpleasant little things like the phonogram of the organ in the scene of the church, as well as the orchestra, two-thirds of which immediately after the curtain stood up and, in the tradition of sovdepovskih offices, immediately lined up for the exit. It is clear that nonsense - but this nonsense leaves a sediment and dispels the feeling of being present at some sublime artistic action - so, they worked, and you can go home, although the conductor with the artists at that time stood on the stage.

Yes, there are still wonderful old interiors and rich scenery of the production itself, but I want more from the Mariinsky Theater.

Beautiful Theater and awesome performance, went there to see The Swan Lake Ballet, and it was spectacular. The building is a gem inside the architecture and decor is a piece of art.

I really liked the historical scene - solemnly, beautifully and at the same time cozy, the real atmosphere of the 19th century. In the stalls, even from the side seats can be seen very well. The mezzanine and the first tier are also good places, but you need to take it away from the stage, otherwise it s badly visible.

I try to visit the Mariinsky often. Amazing design and great performances. Prices in the buffet are high. However, as in other theaters. But you can afford a glass of wine. During the interval, and not only here one gets the impression that people came to drink and have a snack. But not out of love for art ... Tickets are better to take in advance. I somehow went for a symbolic 300 rubles. Having bought a ticket for a month. There are many taxi drivers near the theater. The prices are bending ...

What a magical night! Yes this place is old and the seats are uncomfortable and all that but if you are like me and you're in Saint Petersburg and you only have time to see one ballet go here. Just do your homework before selecting your seats. We saw swan lake and I don't even like ballet and I was almost moved to tears.

The iconic place of St. Petersburg is worthy of the allotted time and, importantly, the budget.
The opera lasted 4 hours (with 2 intermissions). Naturally I wanted to eat and drink during this time. With his food in a place like that is not comme il faut, but the prices in the buffet are for foreign tourists: water 0.3-150 r .; champagne glass from 650 r; cognac 0.1 - from 450 r; cake 150 / pcs; sandwich with red caviar 450 / pcs. A great theater with great artistic representations.

One of the best ballets in the world, amazing new theatre, and the ancient one is beautiful as well.

It is very beautiful and memorial place. This theatre are so big but has a good design. All audiences can see the stage all of views. But some seats are difficult to see the orchestra. If you watch the nutcracker and the mouse king and not sit at the first floor, I would recommend to sit at the left side.

If there was nothing else in St. Petersburg, one could only come because of the Mariinsky! You can order tickets on the theater website, buy tickets for the train and back in advance ... and it will be cheaper than watching a performance in Moscow!
