Mac & Nadas NYC Review

An average Mac and cheese with self service. Portion sizes are massive and even the smallest size they do is going to fill you up.

Didn't have much flavour but it was pretty standard Mac and cheese. Recomend that you "built your own" and add a couple of extra flavours in there else it's just a bit bland. Oh and go for extra breadcrumbs as well.

Bad service and what a shame because the food is good!
The person taking the orders was extremely rude.
I stress that the food is good and the prices are right.
However, we have the impression of eating in a canteen because there is so much noise, which is sometimes a bit exhausting, especially in New York where we sometimes seek a little calm in order to take a break from the frenzy new -Yorkese.

This review is solely based on service. I had seen this place featured on a tv program, and I wanted to try everything. Having traveled from another state, I ordered a sampler plate to go and was told in the NY rude manner "read the fine print"; which states "dine in only" on the price board, but not on the chalkboard where I saw it. If you have the option of take out, why isn't the sampler a part of that option? From the response alone, I was turned off from ordering anything else. A simple explanation and/or suggestion to something I could order to go would have come across better.

Their plastic bags for take out are literally garbage and useless. Food would be great if it wasn't upside down in the bag.

Biiiiiiiiiiitch, I been goin to S'mac since it opened and it is DELICIOUS every. Single. Time. My favorite is the Cajun but I have sampled them all and you simply cannot go wrong with whatever you choose. Easily one of the best places in the city!

The mac is truly delicious, but sometimes it takes the restaurant quite a while to prepare and deliver your meal. For a moderately expensive dish, that's disappointing service. Also, there aren't lactose-free options.

Best mac and cheese I've ever had! (And I love me some mac and cheese). Creamy, flavorful and totally custom built to your preferences. Set in an unpretentious little open garage door diner with great tunes. Make sure you have time for a walk or a nap after... portions were deceptively huge. Super reasonable (cheap) price given the portion!

Awesome variety of Mac & cheese combos. Added chicken to my "Napoletana" and it was delicious. Will return without doubt :)

Haven't even tried my food yet but was already appalled by the service. Watched the girl behind the counter blatantly roll her eyes at a customer who asked to add something to his order before he paid, did not even make eye contact with me throughout my entire transaction, and was too busy on her phone to help a waiting customer get what they needed. I'm never one to complain but this was ridiculous

If you want to try NY mac and cheese this is the place for you. Different varieties as good as each other. I can only recommend the "test" which allows you to taste 7 different mc and cheese

Love coming here. Definitely one of my favorite NYC restaurants. Amazing food (and you can even get it done gluten free!) and just feels like home. The Buffalo Mac and the Parisienne are my favorites. Can t wait to come back again!

Tested during a food tour, I literally fell in love with this traditional mac and cheese! I had a lot of a priori on the dish and I was very pleasantly surprised! I wanted to bring back if I could ;-) Moreover the value for money is unbeatable. For later testing other mac and cheese elsewhere, the one remains the best!

Wish they had more spice options other then that great food. Loved the look for the venue and had plenty of leftovers.
Also tip the waiters when you can they do so much!

I make a point of coming here every visit. It is always packed and always delicious!

Philly Cheesesteak Mac n Cheese: Ok
Cajun Mac n Cheese: Ok but wouldn't order again
Buffalo Chicken Mac n Cheese: Weird and wouldn't order again

Service is quick and polite. Food is excellent and well prepared. Will be back.

Make sure you don't eat with your eyes... It's very filling, even the smallest size.

It's Mac and cheese . Nothing that blew my scoks off, basically I can make it home .

Solid option for mac 'n cheese with tons of variations from which to choose. You can also get it in all sorts of sizes as well, which is lovely. It's nothing fancy ... no crazy breadcrumbs or the like, but predictably good. Unless you live really close, wouldn't recommend delivery (just doesn't keep - you need this one hot).

A S'Mactastic meal!
Pictured is the Mediterranean macaroni and cheese. Delicious, however if I could reorder, I would have gone with the original, or a slight variation of it. I went a little too exotic. Not sure about Olive taste infused into macaroni and cheese, but that's what this place is all about - fancy Mac and cheese.

I came in last evening and it was packed. Noise level was pretty high and there was a bit of a wait for the food. Very filling g and delicious mac n cheese great choice of cheeses

O M F G ..definitely on the list of possible last meals. Amazing Mac&Cheese; best I've had yet. Next level experience of one of the most iconic foods. The Mediterranean using multigrain mac with the thick bacon.. Best! You must try.

Delicious mac 'n cheese! Tried the All American and Buffalo Chicken, which were both really good. The people are nice and S'Mac is easy to get to with the L train.

I have to use Homeroom in Oakland for comparison, so not quite 5 star, but might be best Macaroni place in NYC

I've been a slave to this place for years. My absolute faves are the masala and garden lite.

That was so F-ing Good. The only bad part was waiting for it to cool down!!!!!! I loved it!!!!!!!

So happy I decided to try S MAC for the first time . I love that they give such large portions and a sweet poem with your order . I m definitely interested in trying the other combinations but the Philly Cheesesteak Major Munch was a great first choice !

I m gluten intolerant and it s not easy to look for gluten free options especially for Mac n cheese. Glad that SMAC not only offers gluten free options but vegan as well! Perfect if you re looking to try other mac n cheese variations. I got the buffalo chicken Mac n cheese and it was great!

Decent macaroni and cheese place with lots of options and baked tops with or without breadcrumbs. They have beer as well. I prefer Macbar, but will go here if I'm in the area and craving Mac and Cheese

S Mac is so good it could be a scheduled substance.

I've been excited to try this place for a while, and stopped by recently when a gluten-free friend visited: a place that offered vegan and gluten free mac and cheese seemed too amazing to pass up. Mine was passable but a little bit bland, and my friend did not rave (or complain) either. It was decidedly just-okay. I'd go back and try it again if I was in the neighborhood, but would not go out of my way for it.

The Service was Good and I liked the self service. Unfortunately we didn't like our Mac and cheese that much...it lacked on flavour. But maybe we aren't used to the cheesy taste because of Kraft Mac&Cheese.

Went on 2/21/15. Around 7pm, Young lady behind counter was a nasty, angry person. Not with me, not with any customer that was waiting patiently. She was just being vulgar with the poor cook who had to listen to her bemoaning the busy night, the delivery guy, the telephone ringing {which I think she disabled, because I tried to call in a pick up, and it went straight to voice mail} I mentioned it to her. Her response was "It was too many calls for deliveries" She asked the cook "He acts like he has to go to the F*#king Bronx, what's taking him so long" referring to the delivery guy. No one came in to hear her griping about her job or the business. So her anger meant that no customer was greeted, no customer was thanked, no customer was apologized to for the 40 minute wait.....for take out??? This was my first visit. I came a long way, and brought 7 people with me. What a disappointment. Thank goodness I had a ride waiting. We were able to have it prepped and we took it home to bake. And all anyone talked about was her foul mouth and nasty attitude. She makes the cheese curdle. She should not be serving the public.

Consistently good mac and cheese. There's plenty of customizability allowing you to tailor any of the options to your own dietary preferences.

Been a while since i got anything from here. The quality of the food isn't what it used to be. Delivery was service could have been better for a mondo there wasn't much in it and some fell out. Still ate it and it went from great to okay.

I ordered this afternoon lunch for my co-worker and myself. I haven't had Smac in years so I figured my cheat meal would be this and to my disappointment my buffalo chicken mac was over powered by the spicy sauce. I couldn't even taste the cheese. This was my favorite to order here. Hopefully they were just having a bad day or maybe time to give this place up.

The food is always great!!! But the service needs a bit of work. Better take it to go.

S'mac still has the best mac 'n cheese I've ever had!

The all-American makes Kraft boxed mac 'n cheese look like a little wimp. And my boyfriend said the buffalo chicken plus some Tabasco sauce was pretty darn good. On both, the (gluten-free) breadcrumbs on top added the perfect bit of crunch and the cheese was gooey in the best way possible. The nosh size is plenty for one, or the major munch is perfect to share.

My main complaint: it used to be better. Granted, it's been a few years since I've been here but what happened to the real skillets? And is it just me or have portions shrunk and prices increased? Don't get me wrong, I'll still come back here, but it's maybe not as high on the priority list.

If you've never visited, definitely stop by -- especially for some gluten free celiac-safe mac 'n cheese!

A great little place with some of the most excellent macaroni and cheese! Many choices to choose from. Affordable compared to other local places in NYC. The service is mostly automated. You order using touch screens. Moderate seating available. You can also order ahead and eat-in or take out.

It was very good and had a large selection of food, the employees where great and the wait was 5min.

Thank you for moving into my neighborhood! I just love this place and can't say enough about the quality of the food or the taste...so many choices. Definitely not you mom's mac and cheese! I love the fact that you can choose a nosh, a meal and enough to satisfy a group of friends. Stop by...you will love it!!!

If you like comfort food but want options for different flavors this is the place. From your basic Mac n cheese (tho better than mom made) to a turkey Mac for thanksgiving ... or make your own. Love it. Everything s served in piping hot cast iron skillets that keep your food warm while you eat.

Portions are huge. The smallest size meant for a snack will easily serve as lunch. Next size up feeds two, tho I usually get than and a small to share so we have leftovers.

Selection of normal sodas and some organic ones I don t bother with. Free water to pour yourself. I would prefer fountain soda but, not a big deal.

Quick service but seating can be hectic (grab your own when it s free) at busy times...which leaves cleaning tables as a less frequent thing than it should be. On the flip side, they re quick to wipe down a table if you ask.

If cheese is what you love, then head here. Lots of Mac N Cheese options to make your tastebuds dance. In the summer though it does get a bit hot inside.

UPDATE (07/23/2017): They've now moved their location to the corner of 1st Ave. & 12th St. There's now air conditioning, outlets with usb input, and tons of natural light coming into the store. The new seating is also read nice.

Super restaurant. A classic dish in many variations.
Here is limited to what you can and that's a good thing. Not this typical "we offer it all."
Fair prices and a visit to NYC absolutely worth it.

NOT AMAZING..NOT THE BEST IN THE CITY.. but it'd pretty good, the pizza shaped plates and boxes are cool, the big sized ones are cool to take home for a quick din din.
My main complaint?..TOO MUCH CHEESE..NOT ENOUGH PASTA.
some of the cheeses u choose can be overly salty, so be careful what u choose. I like it with extra bread crumbs, makes a nice crust.

the "CLASSIC" type:
pretty good, VERY cheesy, no cream,yogurt or anything like that to make it creamy, I like that type of M&C,but this isn't that kind. B&H dairy makes a typical cafeteria type M&C that has cream in it, and WAY more noodles, i like it, but it isn't amazing either, just pretty good.
a lot of the other varieties taste the same,like the regular type, and this kind is a few bucks less..

"3 CHEESE"
It may be 4 cheese? or 3 cheese, forgot, but this tasted VERY similar to the classic, BUT..It was very stringy and melty.. again, i like more pasta, this had mounds of cheese, still pretty darn good, but not amazing. It was VERY similar to the classic type,but a little stringier and saltier.

"NEOPOLOTINI" I probably spelled it wrong, but it's something like Neapolitan, i expected red sauce and mozz, on elbo macaroni..
but it had just small chunks of roasted tomato, and was like regular mac n cheese again, disappointed, i wanted Italian pasta..it was a let down.

"CREATE YOUR OWN"
I did this, i added cilantro,shitaki mushrooms and Cheddar & Swiss cheese. the mix was good, I got extra breadcrumbs, i didn't like the swiss cheese i chose, you would think it wouldn't be bad,swiss is great melted on sandwiches & burgers..
..but it wasn't a great cheese to choose, the mushrooms and cilantro were good.
after this, i'd go with the classic,
the add-in's are a great idea, but u can't really taste the cilantro or the roasted tomato, but the shitaki were good. I think the fancy stuff could be better, they are good on paper,or in theory, but the end product wasn't as exciting as I imagined.
I mean, an Italian themed mac n cheese can have big basil leaves,bubbling red sauce with chunky tomato in it..but it looked like the standard M&C with tiny bits of tomato that u couldn't taste..just not very inspired.
prices are ok, and the take-out worked well. they were nice, too..on the phone. I give the classic recipe a 3.5 out of 5, maybe way higher if u like globs of cheese and not lots of noodles.

The food was great. There were only two people running around the place and taking orders so we had to wait a while to order and then some more waiting after we sat down. I would visit again, only if I didn't have time-specific plans.

The place was small, but very comfortable. The staff was friendly and fast delivering the food. Highly recommend for macaroni and cheese lovers!

Great food. Small and had a long wait. I feel that since this place is so popular they should try to expand to a larger place. Hopefully they will be able to soon. I liked the fact that we could order on a screen but I would have also liked the option to order with a person. There was a lady walking around there who appeared to be working but I'm still not sure if she worked there or was just a random person helping out.

It's always been a secret dream of mine to visit a restaurant that specialized in mac 'n cheese. Imagine my delight when I got to enjoy the deliciousness of mac 'n cheese in NYC!

I loved the vibe of S'MAC with the brick walls and ceiling to floor windows. Ordering happens at computer screens where you can customize your order. I opted for the smallest cast iron size (nosh), and I ordered Garden Lite because though I'm a big eater...I just had this sense that all the pasta and cheese would fill me up fast. Nosh turned out to be the ideal size for me.

I also appreciated the cleanliness and layout of the single bathroom available for customer use.

Amazing mac and cheese with all kinds of possibilities and combinations available. A bit on the pricey side but there's a lot of food even at the small end of the spectrum. For those who are lactose intolerant, any of the dishes can be made with less lactose, and some of the more common cheeses even have vegan options.

Great concept, okay execution. Go with a bunch of friends so you can get the sampler!

It sounds cliche, but this place could seriously consider changing its name to "cheese and cheese and cheese with some mac and other stuff tossed in". Less memorable though. I ordered the smallest size, a nosh, and the portion was piping hot and more than enough to satisfy my all day walking around the city hunger. I'm a big guy too. The cheese was present in every bite, both ooey gooey soft and delightfully crisped by the cast iron skillet below and top toasting above. The flavors were well blended (I had the Philly cheese steak mac), the noodles were tender but not mushy, and the cheese... man o man. Good place, worth walking down from 49th street many times over, even if my g/f had to roll me back to the hotel.

The atmosphere is fun and bright, and the food is delicious.

Waited over an hour for our order, in a smoky, dirty dining room. Poor customer service. Our food did come out hot, and ended up being pretty delicious.

Great food but hard to find a seat. If you're willing to wait. Other then that food is AMAZING!! Even take unbaked ones for later.

Mac and cheese is my absolute favorite food. I've been to five star restaurants, I've eaten most animals and have tried pretty much everything else. But nothing compares to the purity and nostalgia driven dish that is mac and cheese. This place capitalizes on these two things. Want mac with american cheese and cut up hot dogs? Sure, they've got it. Want mac with Goat cheese and cheddar with Broccoli and garlic? Why not, it's there. Make your dream mac and wait for it to arrive on a skillet, sizzling and glimmering. Highly recommend this place. Vegetarian options are available.

Rude male employee. He had his headphones in while at the serving counter. He rushed my partner and I, and as it was our first time we didn't know the menu too well. We also are vegan and were looking at the vegan menu. We searched for the drinks on the menu however it's not even up there and that's when the employee rushed us. We decided to just walk away because they don't deserve our money if that's who they have representing them.

UPDATE: We went on 8/14/18 around 7PM.

A must visit. Fresh out the oven and it's piping hot. Frozen take home, still just as good it you follow the instructions.

Great Mac & Chz! Not too expensive. Great for a quick in & out meal. Process to order is cool and self served through a screen.

Came here to have a little lunch with my girlfriend for her birthday. Neither of us had been here before but she loves Mac n cheese and this place didn't disappoint. Great food. Try the Napolotana, trust me.
