Lutsen Resort Minnesota Reviews

We stay at the Sea Villas frequently. They are older, and we've had some issues with plumbing and such. The finishes on the interiors are basic. The kitchen is basic but functional. But, that is not why we go there. They are right on the water. We have not found another place up there with that kind of access. They are quiet, comfortable and everything we could ask for. We do tend to go in the fall and winter. We did go in the middle of summer and they did get very hot inside at night. We tend to avoid that time anyways because of the bugs outside.

They do have a shared pool, hot tub and sauna in a central building. The sauna does not get super hot, but the main lodge has a better one that Sea Villa guests can use.

For us, the purpose of the property is its unique access to the lake - steps away from the patio, not elevated away from the shoreline like a lot of other options in the area, with a very nice section of shoreline to walk. There are fire pits, and also every one we've stayed in has a wood fireplace. They provide the wood.

For the pets, they will accommodate a dog for a reasonable fee. They have excellent, short trails through the woods for walking them.

Great place for family vacation.
Fires on the rocks, beautiful views, access to hiking and biking, alpine slides are close by. Grand Marais is a close drive too.

Stayed in Poplar Rover condos. Lots of hiking even just on the resort property! Beautiful view. Clean rooms.

Love Lutsen for hiking! Papa Charlie's is a great place to wind down after a long day on the trails. Another great stop is the North Shore Winery and Cider House just down the ski hill road. I would recommend Lutsen and surrounding state parks for a great day trip or even more!

My family and I enjoyed the rustic feel and the outdoors handcrafted old wood in all the rooms. The food was good and staff was friendly. Housekeeping could use some improvement but I would definitely come again.

Since I was little I have visited this resort with my family making countless memories and falling in love with evey aspect of this resort. When me and my fiance got engaged we knew right away we wanted to get married at Lutsen Resort! We were so excited and signed our contract on 6/16/20 to get married there on 6/19/21. On 7/7/20 we went and met with Ana the Director or group sale, she answered all our questions we had. She knew our dogs were going to be a huge part of our ceremony and went over the pet friendly stay options. We decided a cabin would be the best for for us and our 2 Labrador Retrievers( clean well behaved fur children). So we asked Ana to put the pet friendly cabin in our block of rooms, she happily did so we thought. Last week I reached out to the resort regarding some questions I had regarding our block. This is when I learned that the only pet friendly cabin at the resort wasn't in our block but it had already booked out for the weekend of our wedding. I emailed the new Event Coordinator with my concerns and she said nothing could be done but recommended the main lodge or the sea villas. I am upset and devastated to say the least. My vision destroyed. Every thing was already planned around us staying in a cabin for the weekend bridal suites ect...I'm upset nothing more could be done.

The rooms were on the smaller side but nice and rustic! Great view for the lake and plenty to do during the day!

Comfortable and well-run. Right on the lake. The dining room recently got a new chef, and the food is now amazingly good.

Excellent, historical hotel, on the shores of Lake Superior and only minutes away from Lutsen ski hill which is great for getting to the hill early to get first chair up. Staff was very friendly and the room was very clean with a nice view of Lake Superior from it. It was however lacking a mini fridge or microwave in the room, the tub also seemed to drain slow. The onsite bar has good food as well.

Had a wonderful time staying here for my friend s wedding! Might sound crazy, but the hideaway bed was super comfortable!

Beautiful place with wonderful staff. Cozy rooms too, and the villas are just perfect. I was here for a wedding and the staff helped so much, the wedding wouldn't have been the same without them. The views are gorgeous and it is just seculuded enough to be peaceful and still near grand marias.

Nice fun place. Smaller rooms but great area. Loved the basic disc golf course.

Every August we go to Lutsen for a week. Grandparents, children, grandchildren together having a great time. And in about a week we return to enjoy one of our state's greatest places. As soon as school is out each June, grandsons begin asking "when do we go to Lutsen?"

Love the Cliff House Townhomes. Stayed in the same unit for two consecutive years and hope to continue what is becoming a tradition. It has been the ideal size for our group of 6 that comes up from the cities for a March ski trip. Everything including the views, parking, the facility, shuttle service, and more, was perfect for us. Can t wait to come again next year.

Great place to stay right on the big lake. Restaurant is worth stopping by even if you aren't staying at the lodge. A selection of rooms at the lodge or separate cabins all on Lake Superior and with shuttles 5 minutes from Lutsen Mountain skiing.

Villa was right on the water front. They had an indoor pool for kids. Right on the main highway makes it very easy to get to.

The Halibut was amazing, and the hikes and covered bridge in the area are definitely worth a visit. Easy for even inexperienced hikers.

Visited, stayed overnight, and eaten at the restaurant about a dozen times now. Great service, great food, great rooms and beautiful view. Highly recommended!

Had the breakfast buffet at Lutsen Sunday morning. Great selection great food really nice waiter and excellent atmosphere.

Fantastic staff, beautiful location and gorgeous and clean cabin accomodations. Great outdoor activities!!

Dinner was spot on delicious and the service was impeccable.

We stayed at Polar River Condos, views were amazing and well kept. The only thing would be nice if they have assigned parking for each unit.

Beautifil resort, friendly staff and guides. Stayed at Poplar River Condos with a family group of 10 and there was plenty of space to hang out together yet also have privacy. Views were incredible. Activities available at resort are great (can only speak to summer activities but I'd imagine winter wouls be really fun here)- very much enjoyed kayaking with Jake. Plenty to do immediately at the resort but also close enough to venture out to numerous hiking trails, lakes for fishing, the alpime slide, Grand Marais, etc. Would highly recommend this place.

The view from the log cabin was amazing! Would definitely go back!

This is one of my favorite places on the North Shore! We've stayed in the Sea Villas, Poplar River Condos and the 2 Bdrm cabins. We've never been disappointed. Great pool/ hot tub with glass dome allows for great views of Lake Superior. Covered bridges and walkways are great for exploring. Enjoy a meal in the beautifully rustic dining room in the main lodge. Great for extended family vacations!

The showers water pressure was a bit weird but otherwise lovely

I made an appointment at the spa and enjoyed a massage and facial. It was an amazing and relaxing experience. Top notch service and ambiance!

Wonderful scenery, sights, and trails on site. Walking to get breakfast was like hiking through the woods. Great breakfast. Rooms are clean and quiet.

Pool area and location great. The room was ok, however issues with plugged up sink and shower was surging from hot to cold. staff was friendly.

The views are beautiful and the condo is very nice. You can hear the people around you pretty easily though.

Always a great time. Gorgeous views of spectacular fall colors. I enjoyed the alpine slide as much as the kids who rode with me. Gondola is nice slow paced for a scenic ride to the top of the mountain. Staff could have been a little more informative and attentive. All in all a great time and annual family tradition. Can't wait to start a new one snowboarding up there this winter!

Great resort. The vibe is great there very low key yet lots to do. Friendly staff.

Very cozy, warm, and spacious area. Food was excellent. Wine list was slightly limited but still good.

Some of the rooms need updates the restaurant food is good service slow but delicious ...and like I said views are breathtaking

Mistakenly booked the wrong date for lift tickets. Was told that is too bad and cannot transfer ticket. Terrible policy.

Had a Lunch with my family and it was a great experience. We left our bag accidentally but came to know once we are back home. The staffs responded with utmost care and mailed our bag. Thanks to them.
Looking forward to stay in this resort next summer as well.

Great restaurant. Our server was fantastic, the food was great, and our view was perfect... even had some entertainment from kids jumping in the freezing cold water.

We rode the Gondola to the top and the views were spectacular!

This was a cute resort and we were happy yo find it. We'll stay again when we Ski at Lutsen but the 3 star review is because on this particular visit we went to ski on Friday morning around 9am and when we returned in the afternoon our hotel room was left wide open. All of our personal belonging were left exposed and on display.....and the room wasnt even cleaned. I had left my purse and everything else in the room. I called the front desk and left a complaint but the when I went outside again the cleaners weren't even at our villa so they had gone down 3 houses to clean while leaving our room wide open. I have never had an experience like that. I'll assume it was an accident.

Best place to stay on the lake and close to Lutsen mountain's. Best staff and great food!

Visited Lutsen last weekend and the Awesome view is still there! However, for the $$ Lutsen is charging, the lodging is need of updating! Stayed in a Poplar condo and bed is worn, furniture is old and the bathroom is looking tough. Also, mailed Lutsen twice in regards to an issue when checking out, the auto response states Thanks for contacting us! We will get in touch shortly . Have yet to hear from a Lutsen representative.

Very scenic and relaxing, cabins are top notch not you'll spend much time in it, make sure if ur kayaking or charter fishing to make plans months in advance.

Beautiful beach with every amenity. Canoes, fires, s'mores, and an unforgettable sunset.

Accommodations were fine, food was great BUT front desk (Bob in particular) fell well short of the quality we expect from Lutsen Lodge. From the moment we walked in there was no greeting, no "can we help you", no acknowledgment whatsoever we were even there. Once my husband said hello, Bob was argumentative at best when we asked if we could possibly check in early. We're told in so many words that company policy prohibits that etc.. We left and came back.
Upon check in, noticed our rate was higher then quoted when reservations were made. The lady assured us at check out, a credit would be made.
Upon checkout with Bob, we noticed no credit was given.. Another "discussion" ensued with Bob telling us there would be no credit. When we informed him of what we were told at check in, he then looked on computer and said "a credit will be applied for being misquoted a rate."
While waiting in line, we could hear other customers having issues and arguments with Bob over wrong rates...
People very upset. Again, beautiful setting, great bar and restaurant.. Experience at check in/check out was not a good experience..Bob should not be handling guests, we witnessed a number of guests have issues with him.. He has zero etiquette or customer relations skills.. Lutsen Lodge guests deserve better.

Perfect place to go disk golfing, smelting, fishing, agate picking or just to go relax on the beach and take in the scenery!

Best resort in the area. Rooms are spacious and grounds are clean and inviting. Restaraunt gives upscale flare even offers 007 level champagne. I gave 4 stars for only 1 reason: cocktails, ie margarita and old fashioned from bar were pretty lame. Basically if its not on the menu, dont ask to have it made.

Guests a college aged couple, a middle aged couple and a 5 year old in a three-bedroom townhouse. The place was beautiful-granite countertops, wonderfully stocked kitchen, nice furniture and cute decor-and, it was stocked with 2 jigsaw puzzles and a multitude of books and games! Everyone had a great time. The free amenities, like the pool, charcoal grill, fire ring with daily restocked firewood, hot tub, sauna, lake kayaking, etc, really make this place worth it. I would recommend to anyone!

Log cabins are very cozy. Beds are comfortable. Many plugs in room for electronics. Very close to the mountain.

I absolutely love this resort. We always stay in the Sea Villas. It is perfection. Try the Swedish Cream. Or else.

I love Lutsen Resort, so I'll mention the good stuff about our stay first. Our family had a blast in the pool, excellent view of the lake from the wall of windows. We took part in their extravagant New Year's Eve buffet, which was delicious as always. The staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. There were a few disappointments to our stay. They keep a station in the lobby for coffee and tea, but when I went to make tea, the water was not hot. The ice machine was not able to keep up with demand, I struggled to fill our bucket of ice just once a day. Housekeeping came and made beds each day, but it was clear they did not vacuum or clean the sink. Next year we will still do the buffet, but will likely stay elsewhere.

The polar condos are amazing. View of lake Superior is the best.

The price of the room was ridiculous for this time of the year! 264.00 for two beds and small! Bluefin had same price with literally full kitchen, dinning room, full living room, two separate bedrooms and full huge deck! You could live in this place for what they charged at Lutsen resort! 264.00 for just a room in October. !!!!!!!!! Not good!! Was at Bluefin a year ago. Didn't have anything open unfortunately. Very unhappy!

I visited this resort for a low key Bachelorette weekend a few weeks ago and was incredibly happy with the trip and our stay at this resort.

I'll definitely be back with my husband and some friends next year!
The staff was great, I can't say enough great things about the location and the view, and our rented cabins were great!

The rooms/cabins and some of the amenities left a little to be desired but as far as other options up here, you can't get much better than this resort!
