Came down from Thunder Bay on a recommendation from a couple friends for lunch. Amazing wine selection, food pricing, portions, presentation and taste were all on point. Well worth the drive down, I will be back, especially as the dessert menu looks too good to not come back for

Waking up to the views of Lake Superior waves crashing in, pine trees and brisk cool air were worth the trip.

The indoor swimming pool, and hot tub were great.

The sauna is more like a generally warm room...not a sauna, it doesn't matter how much time you give it, that never comes around.

The lodge rooms were pretty old and there really weren't any dressers or closets to put things in or store your clothing. This presented a little issue since we have a toddler and all that comes with.. also, it was a bit hot in our room and the only way to cool it was by manually cracking the window. Luckily it was in the 40s when we went but it would be tough if the temps were warmer.

BUT the beds were comfy, and we ended up spending a lot of time in the public fireplace lounge. Super nice, cozy vibe, and the staff always keeps a nice fire going!

One of the things they do well is in the way of value added transactions. If you ask, they will provide smores kits, they keep fires going outside on the beach at night, they bring in live music, and keep a fresh pot of hot cider out for guests.

It's a great place for young families. We will likely spring for a cabin rental on the property next time.. the grounds are amazing, but I don't think I'd do the lodge rooms again.

Seems like a mixed review, but I really would recommend this place to any and everyone. We enjoyed our time there!

The hospitality from the staff at this North Shore resort is incredible! They seem to be always going the extra step to make you feel at home :)

We came here for a wedding tour to see if we would like our wedding venue here. I have to say I was already leaning towards this place for location itself, beautiful Lake Superior and the fall colors! But what really sold us was the staff. They continuously went above and beyond our entire 5 day stay. Whether it was the front desk, dining service, event coordinator, and every one in between! The food was amazing! My fiance is a professional chef and it was important to him to have high quality food for our wedding day. The food here exceeded our expectations! The final touch was how eco conscious the resort is. Very important to me to see the steps they take here to minimize their footprint! Super happy with our choice to book our wedding here!!

Not recommended. Bad service, and in poor form they delete any post that is critical of them even if well-founded and admitted by their clerks. And no they didn t bother to contact me despite their promise to do so. So why am I annoyed? I purchased a deal, and arrived to the picturesque location and presented coupon. All seemed well until the next morning. Was planning on getting an early start hiking but there was an error with my fully prepaid stay I was told. Apparently, they accidentally refunded my stay the night before instead of charging me the tax I owed. So I called my bank to verify- nothing on record I was told. Bob the rep. told me I needed to re-pay for my (already prepaid) stay. After an hour plus confirming that I did actually get the credit so that I knew I wasn t paying twice I repaid. At this time I was annoyed, but accidents happen. But then Bob did something frankly creepy he went so far as to suggest one of my companions requested the refund, but only so when said companion walked out to pack the car. The problem was, Bob was trying to cover his butt. I had been there the whole night before, and besides random people can t dictate what you do with MY CARD. His attempt to deflect the blame was cowardly at best, and the promise of a perk for my patience that never materialized was even worse. As a result of this delay we ended up getting rained on for the last 30 min of the hike and I never heard back for a mistake they admitted was theirs. If you don t have any issues I m sure the stay will be nice, but if you do, expect to be treated like junk. And Bob should be reminded of the virtue of honesty and treating people like adults.

Great views, helpful staff and relaxing location made our stay really nice. The rooms were clean and quite, it should be noted that the rooms did not have a refridgerator or air conditioning. They did provide a window fan, which worked very well and kept the room cool at night. The resort is located near Grand Marais and several hiking spots so there was plenty to do at the resort and nearby. The restaurant at Lusten had friendly staff and great food. Overall great trip.

What a great visit to a classic resort. Rustic rooms, friendly staff, amazing activities and tours and great guides. Magaret, Josh and Jacob were great teaching us to kayak, paddleboardcand fly fish.

Beautiful grounds to tour around a nice beach, nightly bonfires, with 20 or so miles of other great attractions.

Only down sides...thin walls and small bathrooms...but it was construction styles of the times.

Great place to stay. Room was very clean, the views are fantastic, super friendly staff. They have an activities desk that I wasn't able to partake in, but next time I will check it out. I will be staying here again. Stayed in the condos, and even with neighbors it was very quiet, which I was very pleased with.

Lutsen Resort is a *very* family friendly atmosphere. They also incorporate subtle special touches with their group activities, campfire on the beach and amazing music throughout the day. Really can't say enough good things about the experience, 5 Stars all around.

We stayed in cabin #409, 6 of us. One bathroom was not ideal for our group. Our cabin was not very clean at all. Dust and the unknown covered underneath the couch, which you could see bright as day every morning the sun came up, and the tops of the heaters were covered in dust bunnies. When my 14 year old nephew had to reach underneath the couch to grab something that was dropped, he came up and immediately washed his hands from the filth, which says a lot right there. Didn't look like countertops were wiped down. In the time of covid, that's alarming. They ask you to put the garbage out before noon so they can pick it up, so we did because we follow rules. Woke up to trash spread out all over the ground from animals. That was not fun. Beds are incredibly uncomfortable. It's a short walk to the beach for large firepits and a nice view, it's too bad they don't offer fire pits of any sort at the cabin themselves. The hot tub was either way too hot or too cold. Towels are provided at the pool, but don't go to the pool too late, or you may not get one. Although it's a nice amenity to have for the kiddos. There's a fun little hike to the side of the lake where there are rocks to walk all over and watch the waves crash up. The beverages we got from the pub were not great, couldn't drink them, the important part is that the pizza was good. When we asked for more matches and TP, they were very prompt, which was great. We would not choose to stay here again, but location is great, value was a little much for what you get/expect.

Stayed in the main lodge. Layout is strange and finding the room was difficult. Should have been the first red flag. It was a 300 level Room but the entrance is in the 100 level? Room itself was old with minimal amenities. Barely any hot water or water pressure. Toilet liked to run. Not a problem but not environmentally friendly. No a/c during the humid summer.

2nd night decided to switch to a condo. It was called a premium waterview unit. More like sliverview. Could barely see the lake between the woods and the building. Nicer room for sure but It was still overstated. Only good thing was the location right on the lake and activities.

This was an amazing family vacation! There were six of us - two adults, two seniors, two teenagers - and the Cliffside Townhome was perfect! Everyone had enough space to not be on top of each other and the kitchen made it handy to cook meals there. Plenty of dishes to do the cooking. The activities were amazing and we were lucky to have the same guide each time so we really got to know Jacob. We went paddle boarding, fly fishing, and hiking. Too windy for the kayaking, but Jacob took us on a hike instead. BEAUTIFUL views! We ate in the Pub, not the restaurant. It is a little pricey, but the meal was delicious. We understand that with limited resources probably contributed to the meal prices. Can't wait to come back!

The rooms do not look like the pictures on the website. The website makes them look way better; they are shabby and cramped. The wood on the walls was rough and icky. There were 2 chairs and a tiny table by the window - it was so cramped you had to move the chairs to open the armoire to see the TV.
Things did not work right - our bathtub would not drain and our TV was so fuzzy we could not stand to watch it. We tried watching a DVD, but that didn't work either.
The bathrooms are really small too and have no ventilation.
There are problems with their heating system - it was 90 degrees everywhere in the building. There was a lot of noise in the hall - the sound carries right through the doors, which are small and low. Someone was moving furniture above us; I can't imagine what that was all about. Everything in the whole place seems to be from the 1800s. The floors squeak like mad. We were in a room in the main lodge. There were people partying and laughing and being loud by the fire on the beach - really late - 1 - 2 in the a.m.

Our family stayed here during a trip to the North Shore. A few days prior we called to change the details to our stay and they were so helpful and informative. Upon arrival, we were very impressed with the quality of rooms, the amenities, and the staff here. Our stay was wonderful, we would highly recommend for families and couples, and we will definitely be coming back!

We have been coming to the North Shore for 30 year...

We have been coming to the North Shore for 30 years and until recently have always stayed at the Lutsen Sea Villas. After a few years away we thought we d try again and stayed at the Cliff townhouses. The location is lovely and the beach is perfect. Parking is good and the staff are helpful and friendly. The accommodations are worn and tired, the kitchen was poorly equipped (limited and broken utensils for example) which is a problem when more people are eating in and for nearly $500 a night I expect enough garbage bags and coffee filters for the entire stay. It feels like an overall kitchen supply assessment is needed. Overall the site is lovely and the details need attention.

My family stayed in one of the townhouses and the setting was perfect. The view of the lake out the back was stunning. The townhouse had comfortable beds and plenty of linens. The kitchen was reasonably equipped, but could have included more cookware and a sharp knife would have been nice. The resort was wonderful. We were able to go kayaking on Lake Superior, standup paddle boarding, family kayaking on Caribou Lake, and had a bonfire on the beach. The staff was great and the paddling guides were fantastic!

The location is simply perfect. We have a beautiful view of Lake Superior through our picture windows. Our room is well appointed and comfortable. Pretty much the only bad thing I can say is that our upstairs neighbors' kids were noisy.

Rented a room for close to $300.00 for 1 night. The room did not have Air Conditioning and was very hot upon arrival due to it being the middle of summer. Turned the fan on which was extremely noisy and very hard to sleep with. Opened the windows hoping it would help cool the room down which did nothing for room temp and the wind constantly smacked the blinds against the frame of the window due to the way there blinds are setup. All of which combined made for a sleepless night for $300. Went for breakfast the next morning at the resort scheduled to start at 7:30 am and they did not have everything ready to go until 8:30 due to delays they did not tell anyone about. Overall there are better resorts along Superior then this one.

Outstanding facilities, friendly and accommodating staff. We rented a Villa a few miles south of the main resort. Right on the lake... The views, ambiance, and fire were amazing. The pools and hot tuns were good fun and Grand Marais is a quick drive for additional food options. We will be back!
