I used to go to the Lutsen resort with my family as a kid. I m sad to see the state it s in now. I remember it being a beautiful, fantastic, caring place. Now the employees don t listen to you, the facilities are run down, and if your request is too difficult you ll probably have to ask multiple times for it to be done. I ll always have great memories of Lutsen, but with all the choices on the north shore Ill pick a place that s kept better.

Our family has stayed at the private cabins located on this property on several occasions. First of all everything here is just gorgeous. The Lodge itself is quirky and original, which I find so interesting. I can't comment on the rooms here at the main facility, but the pool is large and my daughter loves swimming here. The bridges on the property lead to interesting trails. They even accommodate walk-in swimmers if the Lodge is not full. The cabins are expensive, but beautiful with ample views (shown), and well stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. I also enjoy photographing the mushrooms that sprout up here in the fall on the property. I hope to come back in the years to come.

I look forward to our family's return, a annual ski adventure. It is old and wonderful, the prices are reasonable for staying in a wonderful cozy lodge on lake Superior. We love Lutsen Lodge and have been coming for 11 years to enjoy a 3 night stay for the price of 2. It is a fun tradition!!!

Favorite place I've stayed on the North Shore! We stayed at their Poplar River Condos with 7 adults and 3 kids and it was the perfect setup for us! The lodge with swimming pool and game room was just a short walk along the lake and over the river. Bonfires/Smores on the beach, live music in the lodge, kayaking, fly fishing, golfing... So much to do and it's all organized beautifully!

This might not apply for others but in my opinion my stay here is one of the best stays I ve had here up north. They have wonderful views of the lake and waking up in the morning and seeing the sunrise is very pretty. They also have a beach, a restaurant, an arcade, and more things that I might not have seen but those are nice additions too. The rooms are very well designed and looked very majestic. I recommend staying here with family

Everything has been great ever since we stepped onto the property. The service is friendly and helpful, the food at the lodge was mind blowingly good and the log cabins are absolutely beautiful as well as spacious.

Used to be awesome I think? It s still really cool, but they re under new ownership and some small things were annoying. Here s my list:

Pool closed first day.
Limited shuttle service to skiing. Two vans out of service.
Breakfast in dining room - requested window and they wouldn t seat us at window even though there were only two other couples eating in the entire dining room.
Hot water and hot chocolate in lobby are always luke warm.
Bathrooms near dining room are dirty in the morning.
Stairway down to beach not shoveled.

We paid about $160/night for a small value room not facing the lake. Lutsen is a real charming place and I hope they can iron out some of the small details like these so that they can retain the quality it s known for. It s still really fun and there are many activities and opportunities to relax near a hot fire on a cold winter night.

Had a early dinner in the bar. Restaurant was closed for a wedding. Sat at a table and waited for a server. Ended up going up to the bar to get our drinks and menu.

It is a nice resort right on the lake.

Management wake up!

We were able to walk the beautiful grounds and hotel prior to enjoying dinner. The lakeside view was amazing from both the beach and the dinner table. The food was also very good as well as the service. Would definitely go back.

How can you stay when you can't even make a reservation. I left 3 messages. Sat on hold for 30 minutes at a time to then get forced to voice-mail. Then once I finally got someone's he placed me on hold and never came back the phone range and range for 10 minutes. What terrible service. Was trying to book a room for a wedding. Guess we are staying somewhere else. Very rude.

I can not say enough good things about this resort. Every interaction we had with an employee was outstanding. They obviously do a great job hiring and training all of their employees because everyone's customer service skills were outstanding. We stayed here for four nights between Christmas and New Years 2015. We stayed in one of the Cliff House Townhomes. It had plenty of room for all 6 of us and was very nicely furnished. The main lodge is very welcoming with the fireplace and comfortable seating. Our four boys (ages 12 - 21) used the pool, hot tub and rec room almost every night after we returned from skiing. The activities department has snowshoes and cross country skis you can check out at no charge. Since we stayed in a Townhouse, we did not try their restaurant so I can not comment on it. We were impressed by all aspects of this resort and would highly recommend it to anyone! Thank you for helping us have a GREAT family vacation!

We stayed in one of the Sea Villas this past weekend. We were at the resort for my brother's wedding. Overall it was a pleasant experience. I did find that our server for breakfast on Friday and Saturday was not the friendliest. Also I felt the prices for dinner in the dining room for Friday nights dinner were a little high, but overall I enjoyed myself and would recommend the resort to friends.

Rustic & charming. We've been absolutely delighted by the cabin feel of our small lodge room, the number of activities at the lodge and in nearby areas, and the incredible staff throughout the building. This is a definite WIN for a simple, relaxing, and fun vacation.

We were in the poplar townhouses. The views were great of the lake and woods. I know standards are different up north, but I was expecting a little bit more from the interior as "upscale". Decor was minimal, furniture was starting to show its age, and the dishwasher didn't work. The carpet needed to be clean and the towels should be replaced or at least washed with softener. House keeping comes on request, but I was surprised that the soap / shower products containers weren't topped off before we arrived. No AC but the large windows caught the breeze and there were fans. We didn't use the fireplace. We had a great time and the proximity to activities and outdoors is fantastic.

Sauna like room, small tight and very hot. Found small fan In tv stand to cool off room but then it sucked the bugs in and spent all night with biting no see ums. No water pressure in shower, no ammenities in the smaller rooms apparently. Restaurant food was way out of price range. A simple steak will run 40 dollars. Noisy outside of our room due to being courtyard side it was also above their kitchen.

Love love love the north shore salad and the pizza they serve here. The view from the dinning hall is amazing. Have never stayed in the resort but have come here just for lunch four times, all the way from Minneapolis. Yes, it's that good!!

Dani and I loved it here! The staff were very kind and helpful. The views and scenery are gorgeous--lots of neat trails and bridges. Loved the hot tub, pool, and sauna. Great food too, we'll definitely be back!

We were staying at the Mountain Inn which was associated with Lutsen Resort. We went to the Lutsen Resort for dinner once and breakfast twice (breakfast was complimentary with our stay) during our visit. The food was decent but overpriced in my opinion. The staff were very friendly and helpful though and the resort itself was very nice and scenic.

Had a great time at this resort on a family long weekend in July. The dining room serves phenomenal food for being a "resort". I tried a ribeye. My wife tried the seafood fettuccini and thought it was very good. She loved the scallops the most. The pesto mashed potatoes that came with the ribeye were delicious, but I wasn't crazy about the sauce on the ribeye. It reminded me of brown gravy (of which I am not fan).

It is a nice place to visit, we stayed in the lodge. The building clearly has been around for a while and has some history. Great location on the North shore for recreation in Grand Marias, Grand Portage National Monument, and on the Superior Hiking Trail. In the lodge room we stayed at there was no means of circulating air, so it did get a bit stuffy in the room, they had great windows that could be opened to lake Superior to let cool air in, but we found that the staff would idle their maintenance vehicle there early in the morning and some cigarette smoke smell would ingress into the room. There were some prior guest's toe nail clippings next to the bed in a fairly conspicuous spot that made me wonder about their cleaning practices.

We recently stayed here for a getaway weekend and had a great experience. We stayed at the Poplar condos and while the age showed somewhat the place was very clean and in good repair and was a good value. The food at the restaurant (breakfast and dinner) was very good. Breakfast off the menu was included with our reservation and prices for dinner were good for the quality of the meal. We're planning on coming back with the kids this summer. Our only real complaint was the "pub". It was very lame with spotty service. They played classic soft rock with all the sound on the TV's turned off... Really? Who wants to listen to classic soft rock? That's about as enjoyable as watching CSPAN and ironing socks. They did have great bloody marys though.
