The guys were friendly, efficient and intelligent...a bonus! A real person answers the phone and the great experience grows from that initial contact. They remember your name (something that rarely happens) are always pleasant and helpful. They did lose a few screws for my bed and my mirror got busted but it was an accident. The guys offered to compensate me for the loss. I was very pleased they took responsibility for the accident and that was more than enough for me! Local Muscle is the only moving company I have or ever would recommend. They are top shelf in all respects. Thanks guys!!!

Very punctual and quick movers and very friendly. Job done in 4 hours. A few furniture dings when all was done. They did wear masks during COVID, but wish they had worn gloves as everything was handled so much.

I've moved with local muscle a few times, and had friends who moved with them both personally and for business. Before my last encounter, I would have given them a very positive review, but this last experience was awful.
I recently had to move from Portland, Maine, to St. Paul, Minnesota after living in Maine for six years. During my time in Maine, as in all other places I have lived, I strove to support local businesses. I had moved once previously with Local Muscle and that had gone fine: at that time, I had moved about a half a mile between apartments inside Portland, and I had packed my belongings myself.
This time I found myself with a larger workload at my job, and since the last move I had also developed rheumatoid arthritis, which unfortunately meant I couldn't pack my own stuff because my hands don't work well enough anymore for me to do that kind of repetitive gripping and lifting. Fine, right? I can hire people to do that, put money into the local economy, not have to take as much time off work, and it'll be less stressful. I called Local Muscle and arranged a date for this, and also a date to load my truck.
On the appointed date, four young men showed up to pack all my worldly belongings. Three of them told me they had never packed anyone's stuff before. They seemed to have no idea that it doesn't work to put a bunch of heavy stuff in a large box because then you'll have to lift the box. They had to be told to wrap my dishes in paper - they were originally going to put them in a box in a pile. Books were bent. Some of my framed artwork was wrapped appropriately and some was just shoved in boxes at odd angles.
The next day four young men came to load the truck. Several of them had also never done this. I had hired another company to do the driving, because doing that with Local Muscle was cost prohibitive. No problem, right? The driver of the truck gave me some recommendations, including getting moving blankets and ratchet straps, which I did. Local Muscle used the blankets, but had to be told to put one under my mattress so it didn't get totally trashed by the vibrations of the truck. They wrapped my TV well, but failed to secure my dresser, my sewing machine, a few of my bookcases, parts of my bed, or most of the boxes. This means everything slid around like crazy on the road. Some of my stuff was damaged and some was destroyed. They ignored the ratchet straps almost completely, despite my request that they use them to secure things.
When truck arrived in St. Paul, it became apparent that things were worse than a little overconfidence. In addition to not securing things, they had packed heavy boxes on top of light ones, making all imbalances worse and crushing some of the lighter boxes.
Let me offer some detail: I had one bookcase completely destroyed; another was half destroyed; my dresser was seriously scraped up and one of the handles was broken off and broken in half; my grandmother's silver bowl was dented; three of my framed artworks had the glass shattered because Local Muscle just shoved a bunch of picture frames into a box with no padding at all; a photo a close friend had professionally framed now has a big dent in the frame; some of my tubes of paint ruptured; something went through my mirror and it was shattered so badly it wasn't even a good halloween joke; a number of my books were bent and damaged; a number of DVD cases were cracked; and a bunch of my bedding is stained because hey, soft stuff doesn't need to go in boxes or bags, right?
Overall I feel that Local Muscle was extremely careless with my belongings and the people they sent to help me move didn't know what they were doing. To add insult to injury, Local Muscle has refused to return my calls or emails. DO NOT HIRE.
These guys are awesome! We need 10 stars. They helped us move for the first time today and they were on time, professional, courteous, reasonable, and did a great job moving our things. We will recommend them to everyone! Thanks guys!!
I've used Local Muscle several times in the past, and have always recommend them highly -- until now. In fact, when I rented my 4th floor walk-up apartment, I even threw in an hour of their moving time as a renter's incentive. HOWEVER, the last experience I've had with them, and the experience of even trying to get someone to call me back about my concerns has been horrendous. Here's what happened:
1) I was moving out of the fourth-floor walk-up apartment (which Local Muscle moved me into a few years ago). 2) Because I needed to budget carefully, I meticulously wrote up an itemized list of every piece of furniture that would need to be moved. I also called and specifically requested that the estimate include four movers so they could do a relay-style move, like they did when they moved me in. This means one person on each of the three floors and one in the truck. This way, no one runs more than one flight of stairs and gets tired. 3) I purposefully overestimated the number of boxes and miscellaneous things. I said 75 boxes and on the day of the move (after everything was done) I got in writing from the movers that my list was correct and I did not have more than 75 boxes.
So, to summarize, I meticulously told them what needed to be moved, that it was a fourth-floor walk-up and that I wanted four people. They gave me an estimate. I said ok.
The day of the move came. Long story short: 1) The total cost was DOUBLE what they estimated
2) I have discovered that they piled many boxes marked "very fragile, keep on top" BENEATH boxes labeled "Books, very heavy." This has caused many things to break. Unfortunately, it's apparent that they just didn't read the labels on the boxes at all.
3) I have called twice after the move, asking to speak to someone. I got Gabe the first time, Maura the second. Gabe said he'd look into the issue, but it's now been a week and no one has called back.
Really sub-par and disappointing.
UPDATE: It's now been 8 months and the company never deigned to even call us back, so I'm reposting this from yelp to other review sites so all can be aware. We also discovered several items and boxes that were picked up from our original location were never unloaded, meaning items such as a newer A.C., a custom made quilt and family keepsakes were lost in addition to the broken items. It's really a shame that there seems to be zero accountability.
I highly recommend Local Muscle Movers for your moving needs. Dan was great to deal with to provide us a quote for a move that happened with an extremely short lead time. I called on Monday to get a quote to move from our storage facility and we moved on Saturday of the same week. Not only were they fast and courteous but they very professional to work with.
Chris & Ben were the movers that arrived within the arrival time window and were very easy to work with. They even moved a couple of larger items into our basement after we moved into our house and realized that the pieces were not right in the space that they were originally intended. Without hesitation they moved the pieces for us. I m also very happy with the care that they took in carefully moving our belongings into a newly constructed home.
They are now the first company that I will call if I need to move anything!
Tim and Matt are my heroes! They were super friendly and easy to work with, even after I blew the start-time; we were late, but they were sitting patiently, waiting here for us. Who knew a trailer full of our stuff could be emptied in a little more than two hours?!? They were kind to my 6 year-old who was scampering underfoot, too. Best idea I've had to hire these guys. Thank you to Maura and Brandon, too, who set the whole thing up for us on the back end; I was admittedly an anxious, high-maintenance client, and they cheerfully answered all my questions and were super flexible with my last-minute changes. Best money I've spent, no question.

Fantastic service, Patrick, Adam, and Malcolm completely emptied four moving cubes in just under an hour. The communicated well with us and each other, followed our instructions about where to put things (when we were fast enough to keep up with them), and got the job done faster and more efficiently than I thought possible. Now we just need to unpack it all...
We moved to our home in Portland just before Thanksgiving weekend. We scheduled our PODS arrivals in conjunction with our Local muscle guys, and they were both on time, but worked with efficiency and intelligence. They were a joy to have around, if joy can be had when moving one's life possessions. What I mean to say is they were courteous, careful, and cheerful about the day. Great workers. I'd recommend them absolutely. And you know i"m telling you the truth, because I'm determined to not move again myself, any time soon. i.e. I have no motive other than to assist anyone considering hiring them.
From the moment I asked for a quote until the move was done, every step of the process was impressive. Over email and phone, everyone was polite and personable. The day of the move, Cliff and Soren showed up exactly on time, finished early, and didn't damage a single thing. Fast, accurate, and best of all safe. I hate moving, but next time I must, I know who to call.

Jake and Tim were top-notch. Very careful with our belongings. No scratches in tight spots, of which there were plenty. Furniture not wrapped like I requested and damaged with big gauges out of antiques. Movers also lost 3 screws to my bookcase which I can not find replacements for. The staff was awful and said what happened was not true. Very unpleasant and upsetting experience.
ZP and KP unloaded our POD that was parked on the street. They were running early and called because their previous job ended early and we told them to come on over. They were efficient, careful, and friendly. They did in 2 hours what probably would have taken my wife and me 6 to 8 hours. I would use them again, except I don't plan on moving again anytime in the foreseeable future. But you should hire them!
They are a five star moving company. Extremely courteous, professional, prompt, respectful. From the moment I left a message, i was treated with excellent service. I received a call within 10 minutes. He discussed my job and asked questions that helped him to understand exactly what I needed help with. He said he would call back with an estimate and hourly charge. Again, promptness--he call back within 10 minutes. He arranged for 3 Five Star Workers! They were completely on time. I have never seen movers be so careful and respectful of my belongings. They far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend using them.
Local muscle damaged my couch, ripped the upholstery, busted through the dry wall in the hall ways of the building I was moving out of, and never responded to my many phone calls and emails about the experience. I've moved three times with Local Muscle and my first two experiences were wonderful, but my 3rd move was bad and was never rectified by the company. The team they sent was unprofessional. In advance of the move I had informed the contact person at Local Muscle that my couch would not fit through the stairwell, it had to be lifted out through the porch, so that they would know to be prepared for that. When they showed up I re-informed them about this, but they ignored the information and attempted to force the couch down the front hallway. They busted through the drywall, ripped through the upholstery on the couch, and continued to try and shove it through until I forcefully had to request that they stop damaging the property. The couch ended up going out the front porch like I had initially instructed, but the damage was already done. They sent someone back a few days later to "repair" the drywall but did a poor job and left the hall covered in drywall dust. The landlord was very displeased with the damage. Local Muscle claimed they would follow up with me to correct the damage to the couch, after many phone calls their "manager" contacted me and said he would get a repair quote for fixing the upholstery on the couch. He never contacted me again, and after many more phone calls and e-mails over months and months, I was repeatedly told someone would contact me and they never did. I hesitated in writing this review because I don't like to leave negative reviews but this experience was really unfortunate!
These guys moved me a few months ago over the winter. They were great! Price was reasonable and they keep to there time frame. I would Highly recommend them to my friends
The team at Local Muscle made two moves in our family in the past ten months go smooth, smooth, smooth. We hired them for the load, move and unload, not for packing. They were professional from start to finish - efficient by phone, quote process, follow-up, reminders, email receipts, booking appointment, move day efficiency and professionalism, handing items with care and a friendly team on actual move day. Trustworthy. Affordable. Friendly. Convenient. Local Muscle is by FAR the best moving company in the Northeast. Portland and Burlington are lucky cities. I used Local Muscle when I moved and they had me out of one place and into another in ONE HOUR. They were very careful with all of my belongings and we're super friendly and fast. They used blankets to cover everything that could be damaged and everything arrived unscathed! I would hire them again in a heartbeat and recommend them to EVERYONE.

I moved last month, and hired Local Muscle to help with all of the largest items. The estimate form is very thorough, they made sure to understand exactly what needed to be moved and do most planning before they arrived. They arrived on time with all of the information on file and made a plan with myself and my partner about how to proceed. The movers were polite, efficient, careful, and personable. They safely moved all of the items on my list, plus a few extra in less than the original estimated time. I was extremely pleased with the service and do recommend them for anyone moving near Portland.

Great experience with BT and EM of Local Muscle. They were fast, efficient, pleasant and patient. Pricing was fair and the guys were good sports especially considering my move wasn't their first of the day! I also like that it was clear that they genuinely like working for this company.

As a kitchen designer, finding movers outside of our Boston based network can be tough, but these guys were great!! Everyone was helpful, prompt and overall easy to work with - highly recommend Local Muscle!
I simply can't recommend Local Muscle Movers. The people I interacted with on moving day were good but all the other aspects were very disappointing. The biggest issue is I don't believe they are set up to handle any non-point to point moves. As we were selling one house and buying another we had to have our items stored for a few days. All the quotes I got for moving were based on my that but initially local muscles was not. When I highlighted this, they told me the # of hours estimated was the same for a storage move as for a point to point, to just add $250 to the estimate to hold the items for two days (my assumption was this meant they stayed on truck for 2 days, as this was what I thought I discussed with them and was how the competitors handled the situation, that was not the case). A slight aside, a few days later they called and told me that additional cost was $350. Anyways, the estimate for the move was it would take 2 trucks and labor cost of $1100-1375 (plus about $300 in fees including the insurance I bought). During the move they
a) Tried to charge me for the hours to unload and load the truck at their storage location (the contract never mentions this, and they specifically said the estimated hours wouldn't be higher for a non-point to point move, just to add $250 to the point to point estimate). A little hard for them to not estimate needing more hours to do storage if they are going to charge for additional hours to unload and load at the storage point. The ended up waiving these hours. b) They broke a box of collectible glass while unloading at storage. Despite me buying the additional insurance for $150, they still have not reimbursed me for the box (emails stopped being returned after I paid them for the move). c) Because they have to remove your items at storage (instead of storing within the truck) they also put stickers on EVERYTHING, including items like leather which peel away with the sticker. Additionally, the care taken when not at the client's site was obviously diminished. Items that looked great when loaded looked trashed after being unloaded and reloaded. d) The final cost of the move ended up being $2,110 (not including about $300 in tips), labor costs were about $1,800. They stated this was because I had a lot more items than listed, however it definitely fit in the two trucks, as estimated, and my list matched with the list produced by a competitor that came on-site for an estimate. The cost overrun actually bothers me least. As I said, the people that moved worked hard and I tipped appropriately for that.
I think if you're doing a point to point move and understand they underestimate the hours, you could give Local Muscle a chance. I wouldn't risk it for moves requiring storage.
We were amazed by this crew! Jake and Julia not only showed up on time, were courteous and professional, they also performed magic in getting all of our oversized pieces up or down narrow staircases. They were toting boxes of books like they were feathers. On top of it all, the price for services was incredibly reasonable -- and they never once made fun of the crap we moved (rocks, anyone?). Wow - the Local Muscle crew really delivered for us. My son is traveling and needed to have some furniture and other items moved asap. We recently moved from Falmouth to Limerick. From the great communication with Chris who was the estimator to the timeliness and professionalism of the moving crew I am so very pleased. This crew was careful, conscientious, and also very efficient. It was not uncommon to see the Ashton or Dan running back and forth between the moving truck and the house. They even went so far as to create a suspension hanger for my Kayak and Paddleboard which were all moved with expert efficiency. I highly recommend this awesome team, and also found their rates extremely reasonable.
I'm glad Local Muscle helped me move yesterday. They were very efficient and courteous. They powered through the heavy items on the third floor. I'm impressed!
The quote might seem higher than other companies but they were so efficient it definately ended up costing LESS than the other quoted services would have. Others quoted for 2 movers and Local Muscle did 4. That's why I went with them. Great choice!
I used Local Muscle Movers for my move in August, 2016. Two boxes of mine that were picked up by Local Muscle were never dropped off at the final destination. These boxes contained personal belongings--belongings of high monetary and sentimental value. It is unclear if the boxes were lost in the move (possibly when their truck broke down along the way) or if they were stolen. Local Muscle Movers is claiming no responsibility for my missing belongings. Gabriel Heasly, the GM at the Portland location has been incredibly unprofessional and unpleasant to deal with. He ignores my phone calls and refuses to resolve the issue, claiming that Local Muscle never had my boxes in their possession to begin with.

There's very little that is as stressful as moving. With all of the packing and paperwork, every task is more exhausting than the last. I couldn't be happier that I called Local Muscle to do the heavy lifting. We needed a quick exit, and one of our roommates was backpacking in New Zealand. They worked with us to make sure his things were taken care of with ease and professionalism. Dylan and Zach really cut down the stress and made it easy for us.
I am not pleased with the service and follow-up. I tentatively scheduled a move date via phone. I was asked to give a credit card for a deposit which will be charged once move was confirmed. I did not receive an email or contract however was told that if I had to change the date that it would be fine and if they could not accommodate the date I needed that they would fully refund my deposit. I had to move the date due to a conflict in my schedule and unfortunately it was not available so I asked for my deposit back. I was told it was non-refundable. I explained the what I was told and also confirmed I did not receive a contract. It was confirmed Local Muscle had no email address for me. I was told I would get a call back once discussed with management and have not heard back. It has been a week
This is a great company, across the board. I had a lot of questions up front that they answered happily. The guys who moved my things were professional and relatively quick. These guys took on a job that nobody else would even attempt. Not only did they accomplish it, they only took 20minutes. They were also very personable and took measurements to ensure there was enough room.

Repeat customer - great experience again. Moved from Portland Maine to Kennebunkport on a Saturday, the guys were running 10 minutes late but called ahead to let us know. I everything went off with out a hitch. They got out some of our big awkward pieces that I always dread moving with out any real difficulty, and came in under the estimate (again.) We will continue to use them should we need their services, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others.

absolutely HORRIBLE. to begin, they broke our furniture and refused to pay for it even though movers acknowledged breaking it. max broke it and admitted to it, then told us to glue it back together. they have offered us just $30 for an antique dresser. they have been completely rude to us and lied ever since we have brought this to their attention - claiming all sorts of excuses such as a 9 month written claim period (they only told us that if the glue didn't hold to call them back and they will take care of it - never mentioned the time limit nor does it say it anywhere in their contract or website.) there were 3 men moving a 2 bedroom and they were going so slowly my wife had to help just to move things along. i would never refer a friend and i will never use them again. VERY DISHONEST COMPANY. This is how they treat repeat customers.
