Recently used Bytown Catering for my mom's 80th Birthday and people were raving about the food.

No consideration for food allergies! Allergic reaction following poor communication! Very disappointing.

We have hired Bytown Catering many times now for various parties and events and we are always extremely satisfied with their service. The food is delicious and there is always plenty for everyone. The staff is amazing, they are very organized and always on time. They make planning an event a real breeze.

I have recently ordered using their Grocery Essentials online store.
I want to share our experience with everyone that has or is thinking about supporting the STAY AT HOME cause & supporting our local business s with small simple steps like ordering on line from them .

Their website was extremely user friendly and easy to complete with a big selection of food & other important essentials .
Our order arrived at the exact date / time we selected with a very friendly staff member who gave us the time to verify the order and keep a very safe distance from our front door.

My family would like to say thank you to all the employees at Bytown Catering for preparing this & a special thank you to Steve Lachance for stepping up in this difficult time we are faced with .

Requested a quote on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 12:58 p.m. for a non-profit, charitable organization AGM. I heard nothing from Bytown Catering. Sent a follow-up email on Monday, September 11th at 3:34 p.m. Received an abrupt email at 3:45 p.m. saying that they were working on my quote and I would receive it in 24 to 48 hours. I finally received a quote on Thursday, September 14th at 3:45 p.m. Needless to say, I found another company to provide our food and will not try to use Bytown Catering again!

Excellent experience. Offer produce, pre made food, kitchen supplies etc for someone alone or for families/couples. Good variety, not long waiting time for delivery, good prices and enjoyed pe made food. Much appreciated. Thank you .

I just received my first order from Baytown Catering and wow, was I impressed! It s so difficult to get a pick up or delivery time at a grocery store right now due to such high order volumes, I was so happy to see that I could place my order with Baytown for delivery within 48 hours! All the produce looks amazing, I am always a little leery to let someone else pick my fruits and veggies but the quality and freshness was definitely there. I love the wide variety of products available and will be ordering again soon! Thank you for all your hard work during this uncertain time.

We ordered a couple of prepared family size meals and a few grocery items. Everything arrived as expected. Large portion sizes. Beef bourguignon was excellent!

Bytown Catering was amazing. Extraordinary combination of great food (including a fantastic vegetarian chili) and COVID-19 essentials: (bleach, disinfectant wipes, and Nitrile gloves). Highest recommendation.

We don't cater a lot, but when we do for work or home it is always Bytown and has been for 20 years! Food and service has been great and now I am very impressed with their grocery and essentials delivery service, especially the prepared foods like the sandwiches, salads and entrees. From the essentials to a meal out at home, this is a phenomenal service for surviving these crazy times.

One of the worst food experiences I have ever had. We used this company to cater a formal event at the museum of nature and the company changed the prices of the menu the day before the event, then decided to change the entire menu to cheaper meals while not lowering the price. The vegetarian meal was a massive skewer of soggy tofu - with a few soggy over cooked vegetables. The entire meal was completely disorganized and the servers appeared to have no idea what they were doing. They charged $10 more for each plate with a dietary restriction (vegetarian, gluten, etc) but were reluctant to serve the meals, and I had 4 different servers give me a meal with meat in it before I finally received the vegetarian meal I had ordered. Would absolutely avoid this company at ALL costs.

I received my first order on Monday. Only a third of my order was delivered but one phone call and the rest was delivered within 2 hours. I am impressed with their great customer service. I have to say that their butter tart squares were the highlight of my day. Yummm! Will certainly be re ordering from them. Good job Bytown Catering!

Bytown catered for my wedding reception. They had good food and service on the day, but their administration seemed disorganized.

I would highly recommend Bytown Catering to anyone hosting a wedding or other event! I first tried their food at my sister's wedding a few years ago, and was quite impressed. So, naturally, I hired them for my wedding reception this month, and they were amazing. The staff was organized, polite, and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious (we had the steak/chicken bbq buffet), and the quantities/portion sizes were excellent! Everyone was quite satisfied with their meal. Many guests commented to me on how tasty the meal was. Their office staff were also quite responsive during the planning process, and worked with me on every last little detail, and answered every question, to ensure it was just perfect. I even rented my linens from them! Great job Bytown!!

Made an online order for groceries and prepared meals. They have yeast, and flour and toilet paper! Everything came in boxes and was delivered promptly. We ordered butter chicken and lasagna which were both very tasty and reasonably priced given the quality.

Great Dinner, Outstanding Service

We saw a post entirely by accident and decided to try ordering Easter Dinner for five...to be enjoyed together virtually.
So, not only was there lots of food (and there are three healthy eaters in the group), it was delicious. And dessert...well, enough said. Scrumptious.

But, here is the really great thing...I only saw this post on Good Friday and although they asked for two days to prepare the order, they delivered it on Easter Saturday. Now that s great service, above and beyond!

Here is the take-away (pun intended...LOL). Catering doesn t have to be a big event deal.. it can also be a special one or two or three dinner for two with wine (or beer...and yes they deliver that too).

Delivery is free and prices include all taxes!!

Bytown was amazing at our wedding on Sept 1. Very responsive during the planning process. The food was great (particularly the curry lentils), the servers were helpful and patient (we had a few delays and they were so accommodating), and the signature cocktails were exactly what we envisioned. Would definitely recommend.

We have used Bytown previously. But, this year the service was not good. The sent a minimum of staff. The older gentleman seemed more experienced, and he was polite. Unfortunately, Bytown sent him to this banquet with 2 other younger workers, that were not experienced or they did not do their job very well.
During the meal, we ran out of guacamole & salsa when we still had four tables left to serve. When we asked for more, the young male Bytown employee said there was no more. He was rude about it. Fortunately, Ben Patenaude from Pine View came to the rescue and helped to serve the meal. He found some extra salsa, but was sorry that he could not find any other guacamole. He also apologized for the napkin color Bytown had sent.
The tortillas probably had been preciously frozen or were not fresh. They fell apart when you tried to fold them. They were flaky...and for a tortilla that is not a good sign. I spend half of my life in Mexico, so I know about tortillas.
The food was good, but quantity of the salads were not quite sufficient. Dessert was fine and was plentiful.
We had to tell the young girl cleaning the tables not to remove the plates until the guests had approved. People move around during the banquet time, and some plates were removed including mine, before we were finished eating. Even after I told her not do it, she did it again....including my plate. This very young lady had very to no experience serving during a banquet. In previous years we had at least 2 servers in the banquet hall and they were professional and experienced.
The color of the napkins we had ordered were red. They sent burgundy ones, which we did not use, because it did not go with the forest green napkins also provided by Bytown. The white tablecloths with the green and red napkins were to imitate the colors of the Mexican flag.
The lady in the office was also rather rude. Yes, we did not return her earlier phone calls asking for the number of guests, but we could not give any numbers until 5 days before the banquet. We were finally able to communicate with Cheryl Land, whom we had worked with in 2016 and she was kind enough to resolved our issues. Possibly, we were at fault for not returning her calls earlier, but that does not justify her being rude.

Overall, we had a very positive experience with Bytown. The food was delicious and the service was great. The catering manager, Joshua, was great to work with. He was helpful leading up to the wedding day and we felt relaxed knowing that he was taking care of everything on the catering end. There were a few issues during the planning process, which seemed to be caused by a lack of communication and training among the sales team, as well as under-staffing. Despite those problems, things went smoothly on the wedding day, and we were very grateful to have an experienced and professional group of people on the catering team. We were also very impressed with the food. Everything was well-seasoned and full of flavour. The late night poutine was the best I ve had!

If you are looking for a catering company please do not use bytown. They are consistently late with bringing food and have been talked to about it several times. When told that their bosses would be getting a complaint from us they merely shrugged their shoulders. They have lied about being overly busy as an excuse to bringing food to our establishment late only to find out that they simply forgot it. They are unreliable and inconsiderate. They have a complete lack of customer service. Honestly it's like getting served by a moody unmotivated preteen. The food is often burnt or under cooked or just plain mediocre.
Spare yourself the headache that is bytown catering. If you are looking for a consistent catering company that will have to deliver to you daily, do not use this one. They will have you pulling your hair out from frustration.

It sems like the negative comments could be from the competition because it doesn't come close to describe my multiple experience. I have used this catering company for years. Occasionally, I try others just to keep Bytown honest with their prices and offerings. I always return to Bytown Catering.

Though I think their administrative staff could be more friendly and more organized, I find if you keep at them things get done. But that is true of many of the catering companies' front office teams.

What makes Bytown stand above the rest is their wonderful chefs (great wirh my guests), their serving team (more than enough servers and they are discreet and efficient), and especially the food. There is first and foremost, plenty of food left over (food bank) so the host never has to worry about food running out. That has happened with other catering companies. The food is creative and flavourful. And lastly, they are not the cheapest but they are far from being the most expensive but the peace of mind I get when I book them is worth choosing this company.

Recently used to cater a wedding reception. Not impressed with the fact that specific foods that were NOT to be included due to LIFE THREATENING allergies were included in the buffet! This level of incompetence is quite frankly mind blowing. Thankfully the allergens were spotted and avoided but considering the people with life threatening allergies were the bride and members of her immediate family, much more diligence should have been taken. Seriously not impressed.

Delivery was punctual and courteous. Questions were addressed rapidly.

This is a great company to deal with and the food is always excellent. The individual servings are large (one serving usually feeds two of us). In years past, they have also catered events for us and everyone who came raved about the food and the service.

This company tried to pay us a considerable sum of money not to post this review when we approached them to try and resolve the poor service we received. If that isn't enough for you to select another company please read on.

We hired them to do our wedding this past September. I had no issues with any of our other vendors. I was in tears and so stressed I couldn t focus at work more than once over working with them. Two months out we would willingly have forfeited our deposit and walked away had we thought we could have found a replacement in time. Our experience the day of jeopardized our liquor licence and justified my concerns.

Bytown was a wonderful caterer to deal with. Our sales associate was extremely helpful and very pleasant to work with. She provided numerous quotes and worked with us to create a menu that was tailored specifically for us. They offered us dietary restrictions to accommodate our guests. The day of our wedding, the food service and clean up was seamless. I did not need to worry about a thing. Following our wedding, our guests commented on how delicious the food was. I attended a 50th birthday celebration catered by Bytown and it was a wonderful evening. In addition to delicious food, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable about the meal, and professional. Nothing beats being greeted at the door with a beverage and canape. Excellent service all around.

I think Bytown Catering is hands down incredible! The website is great with lots of choices and my favourite; homemade meals and desserts! I recommended Reese bars be added to their confection products and Odettte made it happen! Delivery is quick and they have contactless which is perfect.
Most importantly the food is amazing and I will be a loyal customer reordering and spreading the word that everyone should be supporting this local business.

I order the deal they have on the website for a roast pig for 50 people but they didn't server us a hole roasted pig instead it was sliced pork loin. There is a huge difference and I urge you to stay away from a company that will miss lead you like this.

i have to admit the food quality is on point however the service is beyond horrific. Karyssa is unprofessional and has an awful attitude problem. If you do decide to work with this catering company, make sure you do not work with Karyssa.

We hired Bytown catering for a last minute office lunch for 30 people. Within a day they managed to organize everything for our group including special dietary restrictions. Our employees thoroughly enjoyed the food and we had plenty leftovers for the next day. Excellent quality and price ratio!

Great service! Their Grocery Essentials Online Store is a much-needed delivery service during the pandemic when you can't get out to the grocery store. They even have wine, beer and hard alcohol. And they deliver across the river into Quebec. My order came on the date I chose and with no problems. Highly recommend.

I have attended several events catered by Bytown Catering. At every event the food was delicious, well presented and included a variety for all dietary restrictions . The staff was friendly and efficient. I look forward to the next event catered by them.

Bytown Catering was our vendor for our outdoor wedding at the end of this past August. We opted for a cocktail hour, with a backyard barbecue as the main meal serving chicken and steak. We ended with late-night snacks of poutine and mini-hamburgers and hot dogs. Our guests and my husband and I were beyond impressed with the quality of the food - a relief since a taste test was apparently not possible with this selection so it was kind of a leap of faith.

We also had them tend bar most of the night. This was a last minute decision as they neglected to inform / remind us of some of their conditions which did not impress us about their customer service as it left us in a pickle the week of our wedding. Still, it came together that day and their bartenders were exceptionally friendly and outgoing with our guests, something which we received positive feedback on the entire night. The rest of the kitchen and wait staff were polite and attentive and we were very pleased with their service.

The vegetarian option cost $10 more and was awful. The plate seemed to be a big portion of Uncle Bens rice with huge thick pieces of tofu that were un-cooked & soggy. We had about 15 disappointed vegetarians who wasted a big plate of food. They also closed the bar during dinner but dinner was an hour late to the tables so no one could get drinks while waiting. Super disappointing.

Bytown catered our wedding almost two years ago and all the food was delicious. We were excited to find that they are offering groceries and ready to eat food. We ordered some wine , groceries, apple pie and beef Bourguignon. Everything was great but the beef was superb! It didn t disappoint, it was what we were expecting! The size of the meal was more than enough for 8 people and the price amazingly cheap. We re glad that we can help local businesses this way and we will definitely buy again!

They were so late delivery food to our event that most of the attendees were already there and I had pulled other food out and made trays last minute to feed people while we waited. The event was half over by the time the food was set-up (poorly). Despite acknowledging that they were late they charged us the full price and made no apologies. I actively tell people to avoid them and have spread the word among my event management contacts.

The food isn't bad, probably a 4/5 just for food. Serving staff are friendly...delivery drivers however are rude, do not obey company rules or policies. I would have given 3/5 stars except that no one reads a 3/5 review, more people want to read a 1 star, so I gave a 1 star, that's just business.

Excellent food, big portions. Delivery inconsistent where drivers don t receive special instructions with directions to buildings (was sent with order request. There seems to be inconsistencies between what I tell front desk and what is relayed to drivers). Good customer service otherwise.

Bytown Catering did the catering for our August 2020 wedding and did a phenomenal job from start to finish! We first reached out to Bytown only 3.5 weeks in advance of the big day, and despite the incredibly short timeline everything went smoothly. Our sales and events coordinator, Odette, was prompt and comprehensive in all correspondence. She helped us customize and coordinate everything, and was extremely flexible from allowing us to pick up the linens earlier in the week for ease of day-of set-up, to adjusting quantities of items needed, to accommodating guests with dietary restrictions and meal preferences. On the day of the wedding, the food was Delicious, expertly prepared, and beautifully plated and presented! In addition to the food being great, the whole team of staff was so courteous and professional and really did a phenomenal job. As an outside observer, you d never know that they were having to adapt to new protocols for working during the pandemic (e.g., masks, etc.). During dessert it started to rain pretty hard, but that didn t stop them they shuttled over covered desserts (and I even saw some wearing garbage-bag ponchos they were determined!). We were so impressed at the overall quality of the food and the service. It was a wonderful experience, and an absolute pleasure, working with Bytown Catering, and I would recommend them without hesitation!

We had a golf tournament at Pineview G.C with a chiken and Rib steak BBQ buffet after. Everything went as planned. dinner was on time. Meal was amazing with all the fixings of salads, deserts tea + coffee. The staff were very helpful and easy to work with. I requested Rib Steak instead of top sirloin and it was done ..no problem.
We used these people 4 years in a row.

I've been lunching at least twice weekly @ the Bytown Catering location on Union Street in Kingston for months now & keep going back because of the GREAT-AND-ALWAYS-FRESH salad bar and the friendly service. Buck always manages to make me laugh & his staff are a treat. And speaking of treats.... the desserts are yummy, too. Superior quality to other similar lunch counter businesses.

I have attended several events catered by Bytown Catering at different venues around Ottawa (Aviation Museum, Glebe Community Center, Pine View Golf Course, private home) and they never disappoint. The buffets offer an excellent selection and the food is always hot and well presented. Staff are friendly and ready to help.

Kudos to Bytown driver Patrice who took the time to stop and help our daughter who had gone off the road into a deep ditch, taking the time and waiting until we arrived. Above and beyond the day to day in my opinion and for those who think this may skew the food ratings, I have had their fare on several occasions and never been unsatisfied. So good work by crew today and the company as a whole.

Our experience with Bytown Catering was mixed. Price-wise they were quite reasonable with a variety of items available. The rep we worked with was less than helpful - she repeatedly left out information that was crucial to our planning. Such as the fact that for a buffet meal children under 6 are free and children 7-12 were a different price (about 1/2 price). But we weren't given those details until after we had finished our guest list based on cost. In fact, we only got this info from our reps manager when we called at 4pm and our rep was gone for the day and we still hadn't gotten any reply to our email a couple days earlier. During our in person meeting our rep was kind and helpful - but over email she was quite rude and not helpful, also not always prompt with the replies.

Every single change has to go through higher management so there is an expected wait time. however our contact did not read the emails clearly and would only submit half of our requested changes at a time and I would have to re-read through everything and write back with what she missed and wait another day or so to get the updated quote again. For example - the buffet we selected included "creme brulee and assorted cakes" but in the quote she kept putting mousses - up to a week before the wedding I kept telling her I DONT WANT MOUSSES for the tenth time.

On the day of, the onsite staff were very helpful and professional. The food was delicious and was served hot. We got many complements about getting great food at the wedding. They provided the tablecloths and napkins along with the food and servers for our reception and the cleanup went very well, the kitchen was left in very good condition and we got our security deposit back.

All in all - we were very happy with the end result, we enjoyed the food and the service very much... But they could definitely work on their customer service - or at least our rep could have used some training.

Great food, great service. Delicious dinners and desserts. We had the Swedish meatballs and the butter chicken. Both were delicious and the single serving was enough for two.
The cookies and rhubarb pie were great too. We waited a day or so, but that ensured everything was fresh. Well done, Bytown Catering, we will definitely be ordering again. Very impressed!

The Voyageurs Catholic Elementary School had the pleasure of having a pancake breakfast for all students at the school. The caterer offered us a solution to allergies that was very well received. The service was fine, the pancakes were delicious and the presentation was superb! Professional, helpful and courteous staff. Plates and utensils compostable. Certainly, to redo! A big thank-you!

At this time of pandemic, Bytown Caterers had the excellent idea of offering a very affordable online delivery service, well varied and which adds to the essentials a little "comfort food and ... drinks" very attractive. Their site is very well designed and it is easy to navigate.
I had the opportunity to attend a few events where meals were provided and served by Bytown Caterers. I found the dishes to be nutritious and delicious, not to mention the very professional side of the staff.

My husband and I had hired Bytown for our wedding reception on May 19, 2018. We were blown away! Their staff, service, and overall quality of food had our guests asking for their contact information. The sales representative respond quickly to emails and questions, their quotes are updated immediately once a change is made and communication was great - which was huge for me while planing a wedding for 130 people! The food was great and their staff was extremely helpful, kind and accommodating. We had forgot to order a vegan meal for one of our guests and the chefs on site put together a fantastic back up plan dish for them - which they said was great! Overall it was an amazing experience - thanks again Bytown!

Our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum... Bytown staff did a terrific job in all respects, contributing in large measure to the success of our event! We used Bytown Catering at the Museum of Nature for our wedding. We had chosen a custom elite style menu and our guests absolutely loved the food. They even added a middle eastern flair to some of the dishes. I just love how flexible they were to accommodate our special requests. We had so many compliments, we couldn't be happier. We will be definitely using them in the future, hopefully for a baby shower or or baptism! :)

I had to organize a colleague's retirement lunch. I had a fixed budget, a certain # of people, and a general idea of what we did/didn't want (few picky eaters in the bunch). I submitted a request for a couple of quotes via their website and got a quick response. After speaking with a rep I discovered that we could customize a cake by choosing our flavours and adding a photo! Of course I chose the most embarrassing pic I could find and everyone loved it! The lunch was great, portions generous, would definitely recommend.

Bytown catering catered the food for our wedding last week. The food was phenomenal! Very tasty, good portions and plenty of it! They were very accommodating, as we had some allergies and vegetarian options needed. They were very helpful on the lead up and day of the wedding, they were always there to answer questions and sort out any issues. The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful, always available but never felt hassled. We highly recommend them as caterers for your next wedding or event!
