Took a friend from San Francisco there at around 1 am and was surprised there was a good amount of people still there. And if you are scared to go at night there was an armed guard there watching the place.

This place is a great way to spend time on culture. The collections are divided into many themes and covers them in great detail. If you are into visiting musuems, this will set you back at least 3 hrs. Do note the collections are housed in separate buildings and are not inter-connected so don t miss out on the others.

And every 2nd Tues admissions is free! - which I took advantage of as a tourist as the admission fees is quite hefty compared to other musuems (but understanably so due to its magnitude).

I particularly enjoyed the 3D: double vision collection. This is pretty interactive and also requiring you use a variety of glases to look at different exhibits and appreciate 3D media.

If you have time, there is another interesting musuem opposite: Peterson musuem and this will nicely complete the day s itinerary for you.

It was interesting at this visit I liked it. The 3d side is pretty cool as well. The parking was $16 and they had some little tours I believe we're within an hour of each other and they were pretty neat.

Consistently great exhibits. I have been going here since I was a child. They have been making improvements and I like them! Parking can be expensive (17 dollars!) but if you dont mind walking you can drive around and find something without too much trouble. LA county residents get in free weekdays after 3.

LACMA is worth a stop just to stroll the grounds and catch some cool views and shots of the architecture and free sculptures. Definitely park in the lot under the museum as the rates are good and street parking is hard to find. I would highly recommend buying tickets to see the art collections, which are spread over multiple buildings on the campus. Also, make sure to walk next door to the La Brea tar pits- such a cool historical part of LA.

One of the largest museums on the West Coast. They often have some fun events such as movie screenings and music. I especially like the architecture of their newest pavilion and the on-site artwork that makes for great photography.

A great museum full of art inside and out. The light poles out the front will attract a crowd of photographers at all hours of the day searching for the perfect selfie . The space is huge and it will take several hours to explore the whole place.

LACMA is a Los Angeles treasure for people of culture. What an experience. The botanical gardens, the La Brea Tar Pits natural fossil extrusion on the grounds, the Museum of Natural History, the Petersen Auto Museum... all world class!

The stage of movie Volcano.
The pond in front of the Museum is water and natural asphalt springs up. Thousands of years ago, animals asked for water and entered deeply when visiting this pond Asphalt stopped moving and animals discontinued their lives. The modern age has been discovered as a fossil and it is decorated as an exhibit in the Museum.

Amazing combination of famous modern art, clever arrangement of exhibits and architecture. Food/drinks a little overpriced but the coffee bar is cool. The diversity of art means there is something for everyone. The fifth star is for the outdoor live events!

Awesome

One of LA's original gems.

One of LA's original gems.

Locals, first-timers, & just all those in between. LACMA is one of the places that should be on someone's must-do list.

I've come here for so long. I was that college student who wanted to culture herself and have her own photo of the lamp posts.

LACMA always has a great hand at exhibits. From the past featured exhibits of artists such as Jeff Koons, Tim Burton, and DVF's Journey of a Dress to the now displayed Random International's Rain Room (ending April), James Turrell's Breathing Lights (ongoing) & Frank Gehry's architectural designs (ending March).

Every single one of them have been a sight to see. Never a disappointing trip.

Also right next to the La Brea Tar Pits.

The collection of art here is wonderful to see. I was so glad I could tag along on a field trip to this location. It is a great place to take kids to foster a deep appreciation of art. I highly recommend visiting here, with or without children. This is a great place to explore, spend an afternoon or day, and build your own appreciation and understanding of art.

The best time to take a picture with lights are at night. This is the picture of the entrance of the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts (LACMA). It is the largest art museum in the US and located right next to the La Brea Tar Pitts & Museum.

Each year, about 1.5 million people visit the museum and take a selfie in front of these lights which have become a popular photo-attraction especially at night when they are lit in the dark. These 202 lights are restored street lamps from the 1920s and 1930s which were once lit in Southern California. Together they are actually a large-scale assemblage sculpture designed by the artist Chris Burden. Currently a retrofit project is underway by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to replace these incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs to reduce 90% in power savings as well as emissions of greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants.

In November'14, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved a $600-million makeover plan which is to tear down the three buildings that made up the museum s original 1965 campus and to build a 410,000-square-foot new building. This new building is scheduled to break ground in 2018 and complete construction in 2023. By then, an underground train station connected to Downtown LA, Koreatown and Weswood will be open at the corner to attract more visitors.

Pretty dope museum, but the employees at the museum are kinda overbearing. Especially about backpacks. They commented on me having to wear my backpack on the front of my body every couple of minutes.

Amidst the disassociated clutter that makes up the LACMA "village", there are many gems to be found, but to be honest, the constant attempt to cobble together a world-class art museum from all its various projects are somehow fruitless. Yes, there are economic realities, but maybe the bigger blocks to truly building a West Coast version of the Tate or MOMA are cultural. The will simply isn't there.
