Supposedly a Museum of Art... we saw the worse a museum can bring with very little art... Half of exhibitions are closed, construction noise in the few open ones, installations not running (only run on Friday and Saturday) all for the same hefty price as usual. On top of that being told off by guards for any random reason (like don't seat on the stairs when there is nobody and no bench), and signs and directions are either absent or misleading (like that sign on the floor that shows a strikeout hand that actually means don't walk further than this point...). After a few minutes, we're just so stressed out, there's nothing enjoyable left from the experience. Oh and the Boone Children's Gallery... admirable idea, but you might as well just give a box of pens to your kids at home...

We have 3 kids, and so, we get into the museum for free. but i'd say it's worth a visit even if you do pay (LA County residents get in for free after 3pm on weekdays as well) the exhibits are pretty extensive, and you can definitely make multiple visits out of it. make sure you visit Levitated Mass and Urban Light, both of which are outdoor attractions.
Parking is $12 across the street, or you can try and find street parking.

The movie screening auditorium is pretty nice. Comfortable seats. Bathrooms being upstairs seemed odd and not ADA compliant, but that didn't directly effect me. What did effect me was the very rude employee who disrespectfully barred my group from exiting the facility thru the front gate where we entered. Rules are rules, sure, but there's never a reason to be so hostile with patrons at your facility. Shame on that aggressive man with the shaved head. Kudos to the security guard with glasses who was more empathetic to our friend in a leg brace who didn't need to be walking extra distances for no good reason.

We came to see the "rain room art" display, but the exhibit has been removed. I hope that it returns one if this day. Overall the current Asian theme exhibits are exceptional in terms of new contemporary arts.

This evening was Sunday Live Concert, featuring Ciaramella, playing Renaissance music to accompany the opening of the exhibit, The Chiaroscuro Woodcut in Renaissance Italy. The new soprano, Jennifer Ellis Kampay was superb! The exhibit is excellent and will be at LACMA until September 16th.

Great museum with awesome exhibitions. Guillermo del Torro's exhibition closes (or will have closed by the time you read this) November 28 and it was as good as Quentin Tarantino's a few years ago. Bank of America account holders get a free weekend every month (the first one I believe) where all you have to do is show your BofA debit card, credit card or check. LACMA has, as almost all museums in L.A. have, a free day for anyone either once a week or once a month.

Huge art museum with some freely accessible sculptures and a large stone back yard. Recommended for lovers of modern art - but not for everyone else. Unfortunately, too few or poorly signposted toilets.

Only was there for a couple of hours and felt like it was the tip of the iceberg. Wish I lived in the area so I could go back regularly. I really appreciated the "open air" quality to most of the buildings, too.

LACMA, the venerable arts institution defies expectations as it continues to evolve its space with forward looking acquisitions and blockbuster programming without morphing into a boing adult Disneyland like other museums. Sure, there are the overhyped architectural facelifts, family friendly exhibitions and fancy cocktails events for arty scenesters, but the true test for any museum rests in its permanent collection. David Hockney's Mulholland Drive, Clara Peters' Still Life with Cheeses, Artichoke and Cherries, and Christian Marclay's The Clock are just few of the arresting works that require multiple visits to LACMA - a testament of the creative soul of Los Angeles.
