$24+ lunch and I am still hungry. The portions were appetizer sized and the flavors were average to above average at best.

Fantastic experience - easy pickup, easy preparation, and we loved our dinner (ratatouille and tortilla soup). Will definitely do this again!
Great for brunch and lunch. It has a co-op kitchen with locally made food.
My Wife and I had the worst service ever . No one greeted us said hello, nothing, but the next customer (White) was happily asked if they were helped... Wow really this was happening... No one No body working there made eye contact with my wife or myself .. Close your doors with service like this DO NOT GIVE THIS YOUR TIME OR MONEY.
I have mixed feelings about this place. On the plus side, it's a nice space, they have free (fast) wifi and the staff are great and friendly. On the downside, they seem to still be finding their way as a restaurant (the space also functions as a food startup incubator). Some examples of that:
- closed on Mondays (Monday's??)
- no breakfast on Tuesdays - why?
- they close at 4, so no dinner hours
- inconsistent hours in general - hard to plan to go there when you have to break out your pivot table to determine if they are open and what they are actually serving that day
- no decaf coffee
- pricey food for small portions
- kitchen is inflexible in meeting customer requests
I have been there a number of times for breakfast (around 10). I cannot eat egg yolks (intolerant) so I ask for egg whites. Every breakfast place in the Bay Area that I have been to accommodates requests like this. In fact, I have never really been anywhere in the US where they don't. Usually they charge extra for this but I'm ok with that. Each and every time I order this breakfast this way, I initially get "we don't do that." And then I ask them to ask the kitchen and they have reluctantly done it. Every time it's this back and forth. For some reason they don't want to do it. Figure it out, guys. Figure out how to do what *literally* everyone else does. Your bacon and eggs and potatoes comes in at a precious $17. I deserve to have my eggs the way I want them. Note to management: if you aren't aware of this, please take action now that you are. It's exasperating to have to argue for my food. Rant over.
Fantastic food, good quality, fast service. No wait time on a rainy Saturday morning at 10am. Seating is at large tables so don't expect to have full privacy in conversation if it gets busy. Dog friendly outside.
Adorable hipster coffeeshop! There's a wall of various things for sale which would make great gifts. Fresh artisan loaves of bread available for purchase too!
Let just say I am a fan! Its local and its locally sourced ! Chef Spencer Crane brought such an amazing flare to American breakfast brunch ! I've had so many items but today... today I had the most amazing poke bowl ... burst of this lovely citrus vinaigrette on top a fresh bed of lightly tossed mixed greens ... and wow on the salmon poke with little kick in the back with the jalepenos ... I almost dont wanna review bc I dont want people to overcrowd my favorite breakfast joint in san mateo.... but it just could not be told. Yum !
Love this place! Such wonderful, fresh and healthy food and a sweet cafe atmosphere. The only reason for 4 stars is that both times i ve been here it s been so busy that it s honestly hard to even find a table to sit at - which can be frustrating when you ve already ordered or received your food and there s no where to sit. I definitely recommend grabbing breakfast, lunch, or a snack here if you re in the area though! The acai bowl is incredible and made with care.
I m a breakfast kinda person and this place delivers. Had the Shakshuka and an almond croissant - both excellent. Latte was very good too. Really friendly service, nice ambience and some outdoor seating on the sidewalk that appears to be dog friendly. I look forward to a return visit.
The bread service and toasted bread that came with various dishes was so good. Also definitely try the raspberry pistachio croissant. Not a huge amount of seating but seemed like it was just enough for the crowd.
Such a cool spot! KitchenTown is a food startup incubator, and through their Cafe (now Curbside), we all get access to that yummy, trendy food. Super seamless experience. Just order online, and they'll drop it into your car on weekends. The food is really high-quality. It comes frozen and reheats in 15min, so I keep my freezer stocked to brighten up a random weekday. Love the chicken chili verde, all the pastas, the Korean short rib, and fresh breads. There's also a coffee counter, so I grab an oat milk latte while I pick up my food for the week.
Wow, what a great concept! I enjoyed breakfast with a great mocha and delicious Anna's butter cookies. Took home some bread, cookies and specially foods for gifts.
We enjoy the relaxing environment, friendly service and Chef Henry Eng's creation. His bubble and squeak, our favorite, onion soup is great (wish it was more!), tripe is unforgettable. We come every weekend
What a discovery. Great food, coffee and vibe. Perfect hidden brunch spot
Awesome space in a well hidden part of Burlingame, just off of the 101. The coffee is great. The service is friendly and not rushed.
In the back is a large co-op kitchen that is used by local businesses to prepare food. Really wonderful sense of community. They sell bakery from the kitchen so it's different almost everyday. But they do consistently have excellent bread, so you can order sliced bread with your coffee. It's awesome.
Update: definitely have brunch/lunch here. Henry's #5 Kitchen does the best comfort dishes. We had the salmon scrambled eggs and pork chops and they were fantastic.
Privilege for the over privileged feel.
Food is good.
Delicious coffee. Wanted to have lunch, but there's no lunch served in Mondays. Nice industrial atmosphere, and very Californian friendly service.
Great food, nice vibe, kid friendly, and interesting snacks on the shelves (bought some lemon lime crickets). Loved it!
I found KitchenTown by chance walking around the area. It s very unassuming from the exterior, but the food is exquisite. It far exceeded my expectations. The menu prices may seem a bit higher, but you get what you pay for. This isn t standard breakfast/brunch fare, it s elevated, fresh, healthy eating. Very grateful for having found this hidden treasure.
New amazing breakfast place. Communal tables and the best bread of various bakers. Really good and healthy options for breakfast and you can also buy fresh bread to go.
Great food, coffee etc. The 1/4 loaf of brad with butter and jam is beautiful.
A place with two good bakeries. That alone is worth a visit.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. Great coffee and a selection of local goodies.
There aren t many upsides to a global pandemic. But for our family, KitchenTown curbside has been a wonderful bright spot in these challenging circumstances. The food quality is superb, the menu has great range, the pick up process is seamless, and the food has been perfectly chosen and prepped to be DELICIOUS on reheating. Every week, we are full of gratitude for all the hard work, expertise and care which goes into the meals we pick up and enjoy very much indeed!
Interesting cafe in a joint commercial kitchen for small food businesses. Back is a commercial kitchen, front is a small cafe with good coffee, pastries, and a limited breakfast and lunch menu. They are open from 10am to 4pm for coffee and pasties. Food varies from good to very good, with great coffee, bread and breakfast sandwich. However, service is uneven, slow, and food can arrive cold. Also, price is high for most quality.
Great pastries. Good coffee. Fantastic brunch and lunch. They sometimes host special events like ramen pop-ups.
Beautiful, healthy food in a hip modern place. They make seriously good bread.
My friend took me here one day. And I was so amazed about their food tastes! I am also crazy about Backhaus breads. I am happy to know they are actually making their own store.
Hi,
I am giving 1 star due to the fact that it took nearly 45 minutes to one hour to receive our order. I had initially asked the male server at the curbside window if we were allowed to dine outside, and he pointed to the direction of available seating in front of the restaurant as well as the alley way to the right of the restaurant. He also mentioned that they will be serving the food and drinks to us. We ordered first, then proceeded to sit and wait for the server. My boyfriend and I ordered had only ordered 2 cold brews, 1 pastry and 1 bagel sandwich. The drinks and pastry came out first, but this itself took more than 20 minutes to receive. The area we were sitting in had too much sun, so we decided to move to the seating in the alley. We waited for almost 40 minutes, and noticed the sandwich hadn t arrived yet so I walk up to the window and asked the cashier for my order update. She had the sandwich in a bag, and handed it to me and had the nerve to say We thought you both had already left YIKES. I asked her how long the sandwich was sitting for and she couldn t tell me. I saw 2-3 employees standing around behind her.
First off, we were told the server would serve us for dining outside. Second, Apple Pay should have my phone number. Could they have called me? Could someone have walked outside and called out our names? Hey Kitchen town, if you want to stay open please be more proactive. It was our first time visiting and I was looking forward to it, until now as I am very disappointed with your customer service. Very poor customer service. Not coming back.
Wah sandwich was bonkers good. Cold brew was ok and small cup
Not bad for full breakfast. Is on the pricier side of things.
I am hooked on your bread. Thank you. You guys rock
Baked goods and food very good. The passionate approach can lead to slow delivery, so be ready to relax awhile if you order food. I really enjoy going here for a bite. Schedule a bit unusual, cafe not open on Mondays, though the little store is.
My first time here and I loved this place. Went with a group of picky European girlfriends and we all had a great time. My favorite was the Winter tartine, beet and goat cheese salad had delicious chicken and was a very generous portion. Coffee was also excellent (cappuccino). It's a fun comfortable place, kind of feels like you are eating in someone's kitchen (in a good way). Service was very friendly and they let us linger when it wasn't so busy. Almost forgot the mimosas were delicious. Had blood orange juice. Yummy!!!! I will definitely be back. Great for shopping for Backhaus bread and energy snacks and other interesting food items. Parking can be challenging so give yourself time.
Just to be clear, I am basing my review on the cafe experience only. I love love the idea of KitchenTown and the fact that it is providing a venue and additional support for entrepreneurs wanting to start their own food business. I think it's for this reason, we all should support this establishment.
Back to my cafe experience:
The interior was cute and you have a good view of the kitchen. You can actually see people making and preparing dishes, so the wait was not at all boring. I do believe there should be more variety in hot drink options, but if you're a coffee lover I would assume you will be fine. Since I was on the hunt for Chai, which they did not have, I resorted to golden milk. For the amount of people in the cafe the wait for a drink was too long. This is where you have to appreciate the finer things in life and enjoy open concept kitchen and take in the views while you wait. Was the golden milk latte delish? I would say mediocre, but then again I was in the mood for Chai.
A modern respite on the edge of town, contains a rotating menu to local chefs and businesses, goods, and cookbooks. Former coffee for a steep price, but a nice treat every once in a while.
Five star coffee, croissants, bread and customer service. Taking away a star because the egg bean skillet had a tomato puree that was too heavy and acidic.
Great little out of the way place. It's an industrial kitchen that appears to be used by a variety of small companies. They also have a cafe with a brunch, pastries and fresh bread.
We had a basic breakfast that included potato, eggs, and bacon. Add orange juice, coffee and croissants made by Backhouse. $37 for two people.
The croissants were great so got two more pastries to go and also bought some fresh rye bread. Bread was heavy, crispy and delectable. Just what I was looking for.
Next time I'll skip the pricey breakfast but will double up on the amazing pastries and fresh bread!!!
Filling full breakfast and cute shop with view of commercial kitchen. Neat experience
Nice large tables & couch. Wish they open in the evening.
Every Thursday night they have an amazing jazz trio playing both jazz classics and jazz covers of pop hits like Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit! Great dinner items and craft foods from local businesses making great products. (I love the granola company there!)
Great food, great atmosphere and bonus that it's a food product co-op startup kitchen. So, you can buy all kinds of unique treats and food products before they hit it big!
Neat place with unique food items but coffee wasn't that great.
Breakfast is great, coffee and pastries are great. We love the bubble and squeak breakfast. make sure you take home some fresh bread
I've visited this place on 2 occasions. Both times with my friend. We loved their pumpkin bread, scones, homemade bread and their coffee. It's a store, it's a cafe and it's an industrial kitchen! The industrial kitchen can be rented out for several hours and apparently they will be hosting some cooking/baking classes sometime soon. I love their wooden decor of tables/chairs...it's very clean and modern.
I'll be back for sure.
Decent place with quality bread options. Good atmosphere. Had soft scramble which was ok, but a bit on salty side (drank tons of water for the rest of the day). Cappuccino was ok too. I'm not sure I would go back
Disappointed. The Shakshuka was an adaptation of the dish worthy of a chain restaurant in a Midwestern strip mall. No spices, no herbs, no kick. The tomato stew could have come right from a can.
Awesome ambiance. Great for work day meeting. Relaxing for weekend brunch. Coffee is delicious and so is the food.
Pretty decent breakfast, but were largely out of pastries when we came.
Beautiful new cafe in an industrial part of San Mateo. The staff is passionate about baked goods and coffee. They serve San Francisco's Sightglass coffee, too! They have great cookies and crossaints as well. They just added a Charcuterie Sandwich menu during lunch time. I gotta check that out next!
I love this place and visit regularly. Tasty pastries and good coffee.
Try a sprinkle cookie or a pastry. Cool view into the factory while you eat.
Great coffee place that also sells bread, pastries and lunch options.
Industrial vibes. You need to leave close by to know this place, definitely a hidden gem.
Amazing avocao toast excellent latte and the friendliest staff . Just dont expect to park exactly when the gps says you've arrived!
As an Australian, this coffee is amazing. Definitely on par with what we get down under.
And the soft scrambled eggs with prosciutto were divine.
Clean bathroom too.
Highly recommend this place.
Hidden gem for daily espresso coffee runs! Makes a decadent avocado toast and has great brunch options. Pretty good pastries as well. Not the cheapest, but a great place in a random location.
KitchenTown is an amazing spot for breakfast/lunch or just getting a quick bite. It is an incubator space for startup kitchen with a small area dedicated to serving food. food was great. We tried the open omelette which was topped with fresh season asparagus, mushrooms, bell peppers and caramalized onions.
Great service. Best coffee since I'm in America. Exquisite food.
The food was fresh and flavorful, but I thought that the price was much too high. Same goes for the many products that they sell.
This is a great place filled with healthy homemade foods. They have dairy free and gluten free items as well. Lots of love goes into their foods and beverages. Come on by and check this place out :-)
An interesting concept that I am happy to patronize.
We came on a beautiful Saturday and there were a few tables for 2 open.
You order at the counter. I had the breakfast sandwich and my husband had the open faced omelet.
I suppose I would wish that one of them CAME with potatoes rather than as a side (we did not indulge)
Everything was high quality.
Fantastic food. The cafe made my soup without cream and onions on request and it was super delicious. The French toast is the best I've ever had.
Twenty five food startups are incubated in this big space with a common kitchen and a cozy space for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Definitely get off of the 101 highway and stop here (just one minute from the Peninsula exit). And the coffee is good too!
Such an interesting little place: food startup incubator! Yummy baked goods too...
We went on a Sunday morning just before 10am and as expected, it was a little crowded. It's a little cramped inside when you try to navigate to the register to order. The coffee, baked goods, and potatoes were good but their eggs were a tad bit over done. My poached eggs weren't runny at all, but the flavors were yummy. Parents - FYI they only have 3 highchairs.
