Absolutely gorgeous hotel with fantastic staff, definitely my favorite hotel by far. The breakfast buffet is fabulous, the pool is beautiful, and the tequila toast is very nice. Sunrises are amazing.

August 9, 2018. I will NEVER stay at the JW Marriott Starr Pass again. And I Do Not Recommend this place. From the start there were epic fails that should have been a indicator of how this place operates. The wife and I made reservations 9 months in advance to ensure we had a king bed executive suite. When the confirmation came it had us booked for two rooms. We called to correct immediately and thought all was corrected. Arrived and was told there were no suites available, there was nothing we can do and even though it was Marriots mistake we have to charge you for 1 night for the second room because our computer says so.
We were then placed in building 6 so far removed from everything you had to walk through 5 buildings to get to any of the pools. Pretending they were doing us a favor. This place was once rated great in past years, but no longer. If lucky to get one of the only 16 Suites in the main building you may be ok. Anything else is sub par. The resort does not live up to its reputation. Highly Overrated! Just Nasty. Evaluated Aug 9, 2018.

Wanted to really like this place but too many issues for a hotel of this caliber, although the staff were helpful and friendly throughout the ten night stay. A few of the major issues...Their main restaurant was closed. The TV in our room just stopped working but they did move us thankfully (need something to keep the baby entertained and fighting jet lag). The elevator to the parking garage was down for a couple days which normally wouldn't be an issue but with a baby and a stroller it made it difficult to take the stairs. Compared to the other JW properties I've stayed at around the world, this one is currently at the bottom unfortunately. However, I will return and give it another chance.

Very nice place and the staff was phenomenal. The room was always cleaned when I got back after a day of golf on their great course. It was a decent ways away from big city Tucson, so you could stargaze and enjoy the peace and tranquility.

Didn't go or stay at hotel. I played golf at their course. This course is one of the best in Tucson and some what difficult. Pro shop and attendies are all very friendly and helpful. Also you get to see numerous wildlife in the area.
Must play course!!!

This place was not great. The location and hotel are beautiful, but the staff was terrible. We were there all weekend for a convention and they were very judgemental and strict. It's like they didn't want us to be there. I feel I will never visit this hotel again with the treatment our group received. We ended up bringing our own mini fridge, microwave, and food as well. Glad we did so we didn't give them any more money than we did (the rooms don't have microwaves either). So much for a resort convention!

The resort had a rustic desert atmosphere while maintaining a certain class and comfort expected with a higher-end hotel. All staff were pleasant and helpful. Room was modest but not as comfortable as what we expected for the price (sliding door to a bathroom, without putting the toilet behind proper privacy door? Eek..) but the landscape, views, restaurants and pools balanced out the cons. Would recommend, but would probably not stay again unless we could get a room with a view (other than the staff parking lot).

Excellent location with scenic views of Tucson and surrounding area. It feels remote, but still isn't far from local businesses and is only ~20 min from downtown Tucson. A network of hiking trails is walking distance from the resort, and there's a variety of facilities on site including multiple pools, a sauna, a spa and a golf course. Rooms are decent and fairly spacious. Experience with staff was spotty - most were friendly and accommodating, but there were a few unhelpful employees during my stay and in one case an employee that wasn't part of housekeeping came into my room uninvited.

My personal favorite view at night from the city. This is like a hideaway. Their outside lounge with some live jazz....you won't ever want to leave. The drinks are ridicuoulsy expensive though, rightly so I guess since they're the only gig for miles

Would give this place a 5+ Star rating for all of the interactions I had with the staff. They were ALL so upbeat, kind & eager to please! Made me feel very special during my stay.

But, self-parking at this resort is not for the faint of heart! Just be forewarned that getting to the self-parking lot involves quite a hike, therefore insuring the resort's Valet Service gets maximum usage.

If I could give this Resort zero stars I would. I suffered from post partum depression , my husband thought it would be a great idea to book a weekend for us. We checked in at 6pm, after the 3pm check in time. Upon arrival, there were dirty plates, silverware, and empty beer cans left on our balcony. It was almost 8pm before I could actually enjoy my first night there because housekeeping was literally cleaning our room while I was sitting on the bed.

I have just stayed here over the last weekend and I want to let everyone know what to expect as this was NOT the experience I was looking for! First off if you have kids and you are reading this then you will be offended so stop NOW! I am not one to complain and very few things irritate me enough that I feel I need to voice my opinion. This review is one of those things that if I had read my own review first I would NEVER have booked a weekend getaway here!
When I was looking for a place where my wife and I could spend our 4 year anniversary this seemed to be the place. I was WRONG! If you are looking for a "fancy" Holiday Inn then this is the place!
I figured since this was a resort and on a golf course it would be a place to sit back and relax and take in the beautiful desert scenery. And while the scenery was beautiful the families with 3 and 4 kids made it impossible to RELAX! Apparently during the summer this hotel drops the rates to cater to families with kids and they did! Our room (which I paid for an upgrade for balcony room) overlooked the noisy lazy river full of kids. We could not enjoy the balcony due to the NOISE! It is apparently not important to separate the people with families and those without so at 5AM the kids and parents in the rooms all around us were up and ready to go to the pool and river. In and out doors all around us opening and SLAMMING closed as the kids are running down the hall SCREAMING to go to the lazy river!
Ok so now we cannot use the pool or the river due to the DROVES of kids so where as an adult do you go to get AWAY? The bar of COURSE! WRONG! Apparently kids are welcome on the patio outside of the bar? So if dealing with the noisy screaming brats all day wasn't enough now we get to enjoy their company at the bar screaming and yelling that they are now hungry as they have worked up quite and appetite from taking over the pool all day. So much for the live band on Friday and Saturday! Its hard to enjoy the scenery in the evening with kids running around with FLAMING marshmallows on the end of sharp grilling sticks! Breakfast the next day was more of the same but now you have kids taking over the buffet that is FREE for them to destroy but cost my wife and I $24 a plate!
I spent a lot of MONEY to make this a memorable experience for my wife and I on our 4th anniversary and oh was it MEMORABLE! Upon checkout it I expressed my displeasure and it was greeted with a "Oh I am sorry" as if were sorry you don't have any kids as you would understand. THIS IS A RESORT but it is may as well been a HOLIDAY INN with a water park next door!

I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!!!!

I WILL NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!!!!! (unless you have kids)

WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!

Definitely my favorite place to stay in Tucson. Sorry, losing a star for the idiotic $29 resort fee even Titanium members have to pay (no value at all). Otherwise, a nice resort. Not the fanciest JW I've stayed in, staff could use some polish, but a gorgeous location.

Nice resort with a relaxing atmosphere. The food is top notch and service is always polite. The room is large and generally clean, although I'm not sure if it was vacuumed before I entered, which did make me look around to see what else may have been missed. With many spectacular resorts in and around the Phoenix/Tucson area, the competition is stiff (and expectations high), it should be noted that Starr Pass is great compared to your average stay at a hotel in Anywhere, USA.

The hotel is beautiful. The front desk staff and bell staff were magnificent upon arrival. We were very early and given a pass for the pool and luggage storage.

Upon our return, we had to park and be shuttled to the hotel. There was a large event. I felt the event attendees should have been shuttled and guests should have been allowed preferential parking.

Since parking was an issue we opted to stay on site for dinner. The staff was less than stellar. We waited nearly 15 minutes for the table to be wiped down. Whitney noticed no one was doing this and jumped in to help. The rest of the wait staff and managers spent a great deal of time standing around. After a lengthy wait to order our food, it finally arrived. My friend and I were sharing a meal and the server who delivered the meal stated we should have told our server. We told we had informed her when ordering. He apologized, set our food down, and walked away. The food was ok, but not worthy of the prices.

Our server didn't check on us for some time. My friend retrieved her own refill. We had to finally request our checks. The server asked the same information about how to split the checks as she had when we ordered.

Opinion: poor management in the restaurant

Pool: great, except it's kids gone wild! The lazy was anything but relaxing with kids swimming, jumping, and diving.

Overall, the hotel is very nice. It's about 10-15 minutes from downtown, and it's settled in its own nook in the mountains - because of this, there is a beautiful view of the mountains. The hotel is very large and and the conference rooms are very nice and roomy.

The guest rooms are neat and clean. The beds are nice and very comfortable, and we slept very well. The bathrooms are large and have a separate bath and shower. The water pressure is good, though it can be a challenge to get cold water in the shower.

There is no complimentary breakfast; the hotel has a few restaurants but we did not try them due to the relatively high price. There is also a bar in the lobby, located next to the patio. Every day at 5:30 they hand out shots of tequila to guests who are sitting on the patio. The speech they give with it is nice, but I won't spoil that.

The hotel has 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, and a lazy river. The pool facilities were all very nice and the water was a good temperature. The hot tub by the patio seems to be broken because once the timer is halfway expired, the jet pressure decreases dramatically.

Very nice and relaxing, but don't go to plunge exactly as it's closing. I went at 505, and the bartender, Jesus, sighed and asked "what do you want" ok so you don't want business. Really Jesus, 1 asked for 1 drink and nicely. Get some customer service manners!

What an amazing place to have a conference. Great rooms great amenities beautiful views great hiking and golf. I'm hoping to be able to come back next year. The only thing I would suggest is better internet. That was very frustrating part of the conference.

This place was gorgeous and the attention to detail was amazing. The view was beautiful pretty much regardless of where you started but there are some really nice views I would like to go back and catch. The only dissatisfaction I had was the fact that there was no microwave in the room. I feel like this is standard now as a way to make guest have to eat the resort for which is ridiculously over priced as usual. My thing is I don't mind paying for resort food but can I heat it up later. I digress, the place is great and definitely recommended

My stay was wonderful! From the time I arrived to the time I left. I literally felt like Princess Diana being waited on hand and foot. I wrote down a list of names of people that showed me excellent service and I will include in my Google/TripAdvisor review since I don't have the sheet with me right now.

One person I definitely remember is Patty at the Front Desk when I tell you she is the epitome of great service!!? I mean I was so impressed! She brought up a microwave for me and realized we did not have any plates or silverware so she went out of her way to get us some. She also sent me up a s more amenity with a handwritten note the next day! I told her I had plans to find U of A gear at their bookstore and she took it upon herself to print directions to two different stores and made recommendations on which to visit and why. She also gave my friend and I a cute Christmas ornament at of a snowman at departure. Besides, the free gifts and treats, what I appreciate about Patty is she's so proactive! I didn't have to ask for anything, she really listens to you when you're speaking and takes initiative in helping you solve a problem or just making your day.

On the day of my interview my button on my suit ripped off and I was panicking. When I went to the Front Desk to ask for a sewing kit, they offered to have it fixed by the seamstress Rosa. In less than five minutes, my jacket looked like new and was interview ready.

The valet team is very welcoming. I may be wrong, but I believe his name was Steve or Dan? He recommended the Catalina bbq restaurant and being from Texas we were both hesitant about trying Tucson bar-b-que. He guaranteed, that their food competes with Texas bbq and offered to take us and pick us up in the shuttle. So we went and WE LOVED IT! So much we brought him a plate back to enjoy as we did. Ayla was our server there and she was AWESOME!! I was so pleased that I will definitely come back to visit.

I also, had a problem with my room because the thermostat was not working and it was freezing in there. Engineering came in, unfortunately, I cannot remember his name, but he's an older gentleman who wears glasses and was super friendly! He fixed my thermostat in about 30 minutes and by the time I went to sleep it felt like a sauna (which is how I prefer it) so I couldn't be more, pleased.

Even the banquets staff was very nice! Yarko, was so helpful in helping choose my lunch and shared his view on Tucson and what places to visit.

I had a few hiccups during my stay, but you can't tell because the team was so quick to solve any and every problem. I mean, whoever is training these people are doing a DAMN GOOD JOB!!! I've never in my life received such great service from each person I interacted with. By far my best hotel experience. I will be returning here for as long as I'm breathing.

Thank you all so much for your gracious hospitality!

The views and layout are wonderful! And the resort is very well located. In a conversation with a concierge I was told about another guest's comment that Marriott must have spent a fortune on landscaping. The concierge told the guest that, no, the landscaping was completely mother nature, tall seguro everywhere!

This is an absolutely outstanding and beautiful resort. I love that it is fairly remote from town. It magnifies the impression of a getaway. The pools are beautiful. It has wonderful trails in Tucson Mountain Park literally across the street. Starbucks, restaurants, spa, gift shop, has it all.

We enjoyed our stay at the Starr Pass Hotel. It is located at the west end of Starr Pass Blvd. Beautiful scenery and ambience throughout the hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The lazy river and pool areas were very fun, even for adults! It was a great place to relax and enjoy the day and night.

I took a group out there for a mountain biking expedition. They rented us these cheesy department store, low end bikes that are only good for going down the street. Ugh! Shame on JW Marriott.

The parking is so freaking far from the actual resort. It is like "Welcome! You will now walk a mile to get to the front desk!" Absolutely ridiculous. The hostesses at the Signautre Grill were also very rude to my younger sister when she had recently broken her ankle. I rushed down the stairs to tell them that she (and her friends) would be there in just a minute and they said to me that they were going to give away their table because they were late. I explained that she had a cast and her friend had crutches so they were looking for the elevator (which wasn't easy to find). I helped the girls get into the restaurant and seated and the place was basically empty. Piss poor service for the rest of the night. They arrived at 6pm and didn't get their food until 8:30pm. News flash, Starr Pass, just because they are kids doesn't mean their family doesn't stay at the resort often! You lost customers that have been staying (and golfing) with you for years.

It was huge. Several ballrooms active with parties. Good food and drinks. Excellent atmosphere. Hard to find set way back in the dark desert hills. Once there, plenty of garage and outdoor parking.

Stunning resort with great views of the mountains and the city. They also have several nice restaurants that have amazing views and atmosphere as well. I do have to say that sometimes the service is a bit slow at the outdoor restaurant, but that just gives you more time to enjoy the views! I think it is a very nice oasis in the desert.

Nice resort with friendly staff and a beautiful interior, nice room with a balcony, AC worked well, nice parking garage. Bit of a drive from most of the city, room cooler barely got my water cold, only one hook to hang clothes other than the closet, building is kind of confusing and hard to navigate at first.
