This a beautiful venue for a wedding. It was the perfect location to perform harp music during a ceremony and reception. The staff are always very friendly and accomodating. Stunning setting to tie the knot. A fairytale wedding.

Lots to do for kids, the farm has a tractor and train ride but wouldn't give yourself more than a few hour to cover the lot. There is a great free play area for kids right next to it and the parking. The House provides great cafe and shops and place to walk.

It is over 15 years since we were last here and it is still an interesting property to visit with helpful people in each room in the house to explain what is there.

My preference is for the gardens, though, which are beautifully set out and well maintained. On a warm day you can find somewhere to side and plenty of shade, if you crave it.

All done in the best possible taste!! Worth a visit for the older parts of the house, furniture and artworks alone but I love the kitchen and garden.

Check before going for prices and also whether there are any events on.

Spent a great day in the house and park reliving a few childhood memories my family were originally from Hatfield spent many happy hours in the park as a child. well worth a visit a lot of history belonging to the area

I was pleasantly surprised to find a mini-village of cafes and shops on arrival in the grounds beside the car park.

We spent two hours walking the grounds. I recommend wearing wellies in the Autumn as many sign-posted walks were quite muddy.

It s dog friendly and parking was more than ample, but we did turn up early on a Sunday.

We will visit again :)

My daughter is studying art and wishes to view the 'rainbow' portrait of Elisabeth 1st at Hatfield. Although she has no desire to see the house, merely study the picture we were told that we would have to pay the full cost of entrance. This More

I attended an organised Christmas party in the old palace. The palace is beautiful, the access was dire. It was a rainy evening and there was no obvious signage where the taxi could drop us off at the door so we had to walk from the car park.

The toilet was a hike back up the stairs, again with no signage, or OUTSIDE if you were unable to use the stairs!
Although the food was tasty, it was small in amount and not served or presented with any flair at all, and the 'dessert' consisted of 3 tiny mini bites, smaller than a standard chocolate, not enough to satiate the smallest appetite.
The bar is very lightly stocked limiting you on choice of beverage.
The staff, on a whole, were sullen.
The evening was made by the company, the wow factor of the palace was great but was let down by everything else.
Not worth the price at all.

Lovely place to visit during the summer. Large gardens, play area and farm for the kids. Loads of places to have a picnic. Recommend visiting the East Garden, but it is only open on certain days throughout the year.

Fabulous all round. Great value - one day is hardly long enough - ultra-friendly and helpful staff, nice food, unusual shops, lovely grounds, fun sculptures ... I could go on and on. Just go there - you won't be disappointed. The third weekend of the month (as memory serves) is when Hatfield has a farmers' market and antiques in the stableyard - no entry fee, so you can soak up the atmosphere as well as grab some great food or antique bargains. Sadly, we timed our visit to the locality wrong for this, but we are certainly going to try and catch it at some other time.

The house was wonderful with very informative guides BUT the cafe stopped hot serving food at 1.50. There was more than an hour's wait for even soup, no sandwiches. All that was on offer was cake. Very poor organisation.

This stately house, home for the same family for generations. The staff are friendly, helpful and willing to answer questions about the house, history. Varied amounts of things to see including the Rainbow Portrait of Queen Elizabeth 1.There are some lovely garden's to enjoy. Individual shops selling various things. There is a tea room for hot/ cold drinks etc. A large woodlan, deer park. The house & ground has been used as a location for various tv & film productions over the years (Miss Marple to All The Money In The World).

Visited the gardens with my brother and his bubble. The gardens are beautiful, such a variety of plants and shrubs. The buildings are lovely. Great for the children as there s plenty of space to run around. The small shops were open and being careful during this awful time. Will visit again when the house is open and it s safe to do so. Staff were friendly and very helpful! Great visit!

Visiting the Palace and House is a tour of English royal history going back 400 years. There's a splendid range of architecture dating back to Tudor times all set in beautiful gardens and wider parkland.

Have been here for 2 music events. The grounds are lovely but its a bit of a walk from the pedestrian entrance opposite the station.
And the music doesn't tend to be very loud presumably due to nearby neighbours.
Events always finish here by 11pm!

Great house to visit vast grounds.Old Palace where Queen Elizabeth 1 lived as a child..,is fantastic. Quite easy to get to from Kings Cross station. Just across the road once you get to Hatfield station. Well worth a visit ,rooms are amazing.

Visited on a changeable weather day so didn't see much of the gardens but the house is very impressive. Guides can help explain the history and answer any questions. Good restaurant/ cafe. Will return on a fine day with the multiple entry ticket to explore the gardens and the park walks.

Met a lovely guide called Dermot who was friendly and knowledgeable beyond belief. Made a fun trip fantastic. Great gardens beautiful views easy parking, only negative is that your trip supports the Cecil family who are of dubious moral character

Quite a nice surprise. Lovely jacobean house in gorgeous grounds. You'll recognize it from countless films. Well laid out with good examples of design, art and furniture of Tudor to Victorian Britain.
But it was expensive I felt, for what it was. I did enjoy it, yet I couldn't figure out where my 16 pounds went. Also the coffee in the cafe is rotten.
Worth a visit

Positively dripping with history, Hatfield echoes ...

Positively dripping with history, Hatfield echoes to the machinations of its past residents and their activities. From drafted letters justifying the death of Queen Mary of Scots, to a window into the equally depressing life downstairs of your average Scullery maid! Probably the difference between flashing your eyes at the Baron, and grasping your crucifix at the wrong moment would seal your fate! Ha Ha. Home of the Salisbury's, 21 miles from London. Cafe is pricey, so get the cake with your beverage or you'll get a sour stomach from shock.

Great place to walk and beautiful gardens
Inside the house is also very interesting with lots to see
Prices however are high, especially for food

In short, the complex complex around the Jacobean-style Hatfield House is fantastically beautiful; unfortunately closed for the entire 2020 season due to the pandemic. So if you, like me, want to visit the two fabulous portraits of Queen Elisabeth I, who spent her childhood and youth in the so-called 'Old Palace' (which is open again) from the Tudor period, you have to be patient immediately. But the remaining delicacies such as the extensive gardens, the elegant park, the adjacent St. Etheldreda church or the 'Old Palace' compensate every visitor. A one-off day trip (from London King's Cross takes about 25 minutes by train) doesn't seem sufficient to me anyway. And, even if it is almost a matter of course for the charming English people: very warm and humorous staff!

Really nice day out when the weather is nice, plenty to do: walks, Park and farm for the kids, the house for the adults. There are usually lots of events happening. It can be a little pricy so plan accordingly to make the most of your visit.

Boring and uneventful and a flipping over priced cafe, if you've got kids it's going to put you in a bad mood with the expense of keeping them refreshed with snacks, drinks and ice creams. Hatfield not sure as an attraction what it's about!
