Very helpful volunteers, especially Barbara, to disabled folk like myself. They go out of their way to ensure you can reach every room despite the challenges of an old building. Despite some rain on our visit it did not prevent us from enjoying some of the well kept gardens.

A very well preserved house, steeped in history with as expected high quality works of art of significance. Very impressed with the beautiful gardens too.I would recommend booking online, it's cheaper.

not impressed ,we went there mainly for the gardens the best 1/3 of the gardens ,the knot garden was locked off for a private corporate event ,1/3 the east garden you had to pay extra for and the people coming out told me it was not worth the extra money so the last 1/3 the west garden and the compass garden were ok but boring uncared for plants and lot of fast growing hedging instead of the topiary garden i was looking for

Lovely place to go for a walk in the massive park. Lots of paved paths and then smaller dirt paths into the forest. Incredibly accessible place but beware nowhere to sit down inside the park. The background traffic from the busy road on one More

Worth a visit but not as well organised for visitors as it is for film crews and events. Nothing really in terms of children or family activities. Very few rooms opened as the family still lives there. The one important portrait of Queen Elizabeth was hidden away because of the film set and instead we saw a copy of it. Not a place I would visit again. Much prefer Burghley House or Holkham Hall.

Very beautiful house and grand gardens and woodland area. Easy to get to from London. The train station is across the street from the entrance to the house grounds. Expensive, with an extra charge if you want to see the original castle where Elizabeth I grew up. (Petty, I thought.)

A castle that can be reached in 30 minutes by car from north London. It was a castle where Queen Elizabeth spent his childhood, and was a hall invited by Hirofumi Ito to visit Britain in preparation for the Japan-UK Alliance.
There is a mini farm and a paid athletic next to it, and if you think about it now, if you pay a regular fee and enter, you will be switched to an annual pass, so I think it would have been better to come more when you were free. The garden is small compared to other English castles, but it is well-maintained. It was later learned that it was designed by a late marquis called Lady Salisbury who worked on famous gardens such as Higrove.
The best season is around mid-May to June.

This place is a scenic and beautiful area and despite it seeming overpriced, make a day of it, it's huge a beautiful place to have a picnic or just a relaxing walk. (side note the guided tour was amazing, give dermet, possibly incorrectly spelt name, a pay rise he was perfect)

Hatfield House in Hertfordshire offers a great day out - just don't forget to go to the shop after to have your entry ticket validated, converting it into a yearly season ticket at no extra cost.

The main gardens are currently hosting a sculpture exhibition, at no extra cost, with artwork scattered throughout. Also don't miss the spot where Elizabeth I was told that her sister Mary was dead so she was now Queen. The newish kids play area "bloody hollow" is also good, but does cost a pound more.

This palace - several generations of the history of Britain, the interiors are simply amazing, especially liked the hall with the golden ceiling and the library. It was just an antique fair and there was a lot of entertainment for children, and apples ripened in the garden.

Both the house, which frequently shows up as a setting in film and TV series, are really beautiful. Although the entry tix are expensive, they are good for an entire season. Well worth visiting!
I also attend some of the events they host on the grounds. The excellent one day Folk by the Oak festival (there were about 8000 attendees this year) which is very family friendly. The Country Show is great They host Battle Proms and much more. Check out their website!

Superb architecture and historical interest. 'The Favourite' was filmed here. Excellent buggy service from Mike. Loved the wonderful paintings and tapestries. Lovely gardens, tea garden (River Cottage) and children's farm plus quaint little village shops are a bonus. Well worth a visit.

Outstanding service from the hospitality staff at a conference today.
I have dietary requirements and they made sure I was catered for. They went beyond what I expected. Really friendly staff and a great place to hold a conference.

Visited Hatfield House with my hungry Grandson about 2.30pm. First visit was the busy Restaurant which had sold out of hot food and sandwiches! No apology and not as advertised in the local media but there you go.

Decided to leave to seek hot food elsewhere and joined rush hour traffic home.

Will not be returning any-day soon. At least the parking was free.

Also I did not like big dogs being walked into grounds.

I'm not a fan of country houses, but found this place to be very interesting, there is a member of staff in each room to answer questions - and they know their subject.

Apparently a lot of films and TV programs are filmed there, and it's easy to see why.

Such a beautiful place so close to London. The gardens are amazing and easy to enjoy and the cafe is delicious - quality food and reasonably priced too. Did not enter the house on this trip.

I dont care how aristocratic you are if you work at this place, being rude and superior to visitors is foolish and narrow minded. My little daughter ran through the passholders gates and i ran to stop her.The gates closed behind us and we got stuck there.I called the staff to open the doors and the guy could not have been more patronising and rude in lecturing me about entering the area. The fool was wearing a colonialist style hat too.Get real.

A beautiful house and gardens.

I would recommend using the Audio guides as this really made the house come to life.

A beautifully kept Jacobean style house with excellent grounds to explore. Right opposite the rail station as well so access is easy. The grounds are clearly mapped out and also really nicely looked after.

Beautiful historic house, home of the Cecil's and Salisbury's. Lovely grounds and courtyard with restaurant, sat in the sunshine eating a delightful, delicious lunch. Walked in the East and West Gardens, lovely. Great place to visit.

Great location for a day out. The gardens are beautiful and it s a lovely walk. Woods, lake and green areas to explore. Great for kids or dog walking. The court yard by the main house has lovely little shops and a great cafe and restaurant (albeit a little expensive). You can get your ticket to the garden stamped for full access to the gardens all season for no extra charge.
