We were within 20 minutes by plane picking up luggage on the bus. That was unexpectedly fast. I can not complain. We did not visit the sanitary facilities.
We were within 20 minutes by plane picking up luggage on the bus. That was unexpectedly fast. I can not complain. We did not visit the sanitary facilities.
Crete was great, but with bad taste at the end.
No Air Condition during the hot summer time.
Also the restrooms clean was dirty as well.
Disorganized airport. High prices for food and drinks. Little overall hygiene and poor cleaning of the bathrooms. Personally I had problems with the boarding of baggage in the hold. At boarding 20 the baggage scale differed by 2kg from the one adjacent to 19. We were forced to share part of the contents of the suitcase in hand luggage and then discover the problem. Passing the check-in area, the seats waiting for the flight are insufficient for the number of people present. Poorly air-conditioned environment. To improve.
Horrible airport, unless unprofessional staff, long lines, delayed lines and dark bathrooms is your bag.
Well, not up to date anymore. Many little dirty corners. But at least he works. The island makes everything chic again.
dirty airport, stressed employees, restrooms need a lot of renovation work!
Just a sub level
A country so illustrated and the field at the level of a third world state
Very good and clean airport. Only flaws: Not good signposting and bad spelling on the arrival and departure boards. (Z.b. Hanover, Dusseldorf, etc.)
It collapses easily in high season. Many duty free stores of liquors, perfumes and chocolate after having passed the security control, but very little restoration
People's clouds everywhere, long queues for everything, check-in and security checks lasted nearly two hours. The airport is so crowded it is a problem to move. Few seats but when you wander for a while, you usually encounter a seat. After checking in at the Gate, you wait several tens of minutes on the stairs before a bus arrives for you to take you to the plane. Toilets dirty, wet and without toilet paper. Air conditioning does not work more than it works. So while you wait for a check in, you sweat a lot. The airport is one word of tragedy.
Old, shabby, small airport. It does not seem that an upgrade or any other repair is planned.
I was worried when I read all the bad reviews, but it actually turns out, that everything was working just fine. And this was at peak season and prime time Saturday 8 PM. Checkin was smooth without much waiting time. I don't get what problem other people have. Just find your flight on the monitor, go to the correct check-in counter, get in line and wait until it's your time to dropp off your bags and get your boarding passes. It works exactly the same as on any other airport. My only complaint is the air conditioning that is not properly working. And of course the many people sharing a waiting area that is much too small. My tip is to go to the duty free shop on the second floor. First of all it has a nice selection and secondly the air conditioning is working really well up there :-)
Easily the worst experience I ever had at an airport, especially for "security" checks. Worst people for doing the checks, they prefer to point at things rather than speak to you (you're just a tourist, after all, and they can just barely speak English), aggressively of course. The equipment is not what you would expect in any airport (have a look at their arrivals, that's a nice summary of what Greece doesn't have to offer), not even Wi-Fi. Just don't fly here, prefer Chania in Crete or take a boat.
Incredible chaos. 1.5 hours for luggage drop-off, then security check without actual control, you could have taken everything with you. Corona rules are disregarded by staff and you are forced to do the same. For example, one should go through the body scanner when a person is already standing in it. Absolute madness.
Terrible airport, old infrastructure, so expect big crowds, everything is in a mess, they don't even bother to put queue dividers at the check in desks, have to check in first, then carry your bag to x-ray machine, where there is another huge disordered "line" of people, lack of signs and info, at the departure gate area there is only one cafe working with overpriced food, the worst airport i have ever been to
Sick bad airport Everything is just chaos. You who go with TUI recommend that you take a vip or fast track at the airport you will avoid all queues and chaos with your suitcases
Fast, efficient and hassle-free :) restaurants, very good coffee and pizza!
As bad as many write here I did not find the airport. Checkin baggage check and security check took less than 30 minutes together, the prices are not expensive as at German airports and there was also toilet paper
It feels like a bus station ... No comfort, excessive prices.
The airport has been refurbished since 12 years ago. Beautiful tax-free part. But otherwise it is disorganized. We had an early boarding in the beginning which was very unclear. Broadcasting is not understood.
Toilets are incredibly filthy and you hardly dare to use them.
Customs section also looks dirty. It is slightly better after customs. Hence 2 stars.
Massive queues (well over an hour to go through security!), very few staff to be seem out front and the bathroom areas were really dirty. Facilities wise this is the worst airport I've been in. Gets 2 stars purely because all the staff we did see were very helpful and polite.
Very busy airport-much over its capabilities, dirty, bad customer service, awful toilets. I cant believe it has a status of the international airport.
Horrible airport.
Dirty toilets, too full, no seating.
Slightly too small for the many tourists, otherwise everything went very quickly.
Terrible airport. After a long search, I found a toilet with glasses, but without paper. All others were broken, without glasses or shitty. Hand basins were also without water. Two stars only because the check-in on departure and departure was really fast.
Unclean and broken toilets. You should think twice about using them.
The airport is not so good, it is old and narrow. It does not have wifi which is unfortunate nowadays ...
Worst aeroport ever !!!! Toilets facilities were disgusting no water or soap available and even the taps were all of them broken. Also the staff was arrogant, very disappointed!
Shops are good, but not the cheapest. Toilets were terrible
Chaos ... It's a fact, but it's because of the number of people who come to Crete and fly out. As for me, I'm happy because everything went very smoothly and quickly. As we were returning there was only an hour of delay, so to go :)
It is time that something new was added at the airport .... and order at the counters
Overall, the airport is not up-to-date in terms of departure and arrival hall. The check-in counters are not enough for the high-traffic holiday airlines, too small, too slow.
The result is enormous queues. Therefore I do not recommend to appear too close to departure. If you are flying with TUIFLY you can spend an hour at Baggage Drop Off.
And if possible, you also do not go to the bathroom here.
The snakes on SecurityCheck are also super long.
The gastronomic offer at the gate is also moderate. Coke is only in the cup, and to eat v.a. Hotdogs or pizza.
Sockets for chargers are not available.
All in all - no fun flying off here.
It s a bad idea to first check in and then drop off your baggage.
Main airport of Crete. Health measures well respected. You can't get lost because the airport is simple with only one terminal
Very small and very very crowded but just as you aspect it to be
Figo airport in a nutshell. Dirty, old tiles, elevators do not work! Doves fly out of the muskoks and fly around the airport! One blows of fries just! But there is a hall prioriti pass. A small, but beautiful! Everything is fine there already !!!
Was too small for the many travelers. Everything is chaotic and takes long. Plan some time. Noise levels inside were getting me headaches.
It's dirty, it's old, it smells inside. No airport Wi-Fi, WC rooms can't be locked for privacy and two thirds of them are out of order. You are moved by bus between airplane and airport for some time which isn't that good.
I've been here around 5 years ago and nothing has changed. Maybe smell got worse
Two weeks have passed. Staff is rude, barely speaks anything but Greek, finds it unnecessary. Long queues at security check. Hot as hell, no a/c even in waiting area
0/5
Airport really dirty and embarrassing prices ... for example a square of "pizza" smaller than a child's hand "6.80 .. Not to mention the buffets that exceed 12 euros for a single dish .. The bathrooms are something indescribable, the smell of urine is felt from the corridor ... Maintenance does not exist ... There are no words ... If I could I would put 0!
Old and dirty. Sorry to say but I really disliked the airport.
The toilets were outright dirty. The handles were all loose and you had to use a random soap dispenser (like to ones you buy at the supermarket) to wash your hands. Afterwards no paper to dry your hands with.
The guidance on the airport is also poor. There were just no (or badly placed) singes to where our bagage would be dropt.
The worst airport I've ever seen. Totally chaotic and too small with so many tourists ...
it was the slowest recording in my life. The girl registering the passengers was in no hurry at all. Consider if you planned to pack up more in duty free. They announced the registration of two international flights: as a result, there is simply a huge crowd from the check-in counters to the opposite wall, passengers cannot go to their flight queue, because there are people everywhere. The administration, apparently, has never heard that passenger queues should be organized, especially in such a small airport.
Toilets on departure are clean, on arrival they are terribly dirty.
Baggage is brought quickly, but thrown heavily. My bag was torn, the contents of the luggage show that he was not spared.
From the pros: two ladders are served to the plane at once.
Needs expanding and renovating. Not a great place to fly from.
The airport is great. You do not stand at check in and at the security check too long. We found everything quickly and it was nice to stroll a bit. The only problem is the toilets are not really cleaned but still a good airport
Officially the worst airport I have flown from lots of cramped waiting and not knowing what's going on from passengers and staff
No social distancing, no connecting wifi on any spot. So in the 2 hours you spend before the flight you basically "entertain" yourself by watching how people spread the corona virus.
Disorganized, too small for the amount of people, dirtiest bathrooms ever
I'm really not that sensitive, but that's a real impertinence. Almost puked on the toilet because it was so disgusting (including missing toilet paper). Departure hall extremely small and equipped with few waiting spaces. A shame for the otherwise beautiful island ..
Very good service wants renovation from the foundations though
Very shabby. On arrival the toilets are really very dirty. In the departures area it is just about the same.
Cramped, crowded, completely overloaded - a reason not to fly to Crete. Fortunately, a new airport is being built ...
Very badly organized I have never seen anything like this anywhere in the world .. 3 flights at the same gate at the same time, resulting in 3 delayed flights !! Madness .. so you can worsen air traffic in Europe. Top!
Dirty airport
For the bathroom I pass you the details
Can only agree with the previous reviews. The security situation is a disaster! I don't want to imagine what happens when panic e.g. breaks out through a fire or the like. Emergency exits are closed. Far too little space for the number of passengers! There must be an airport control authority. The airport is unfortunately a reason for me not to come back to Crete!
The airport is in a really bad condition. On the men's room on the 1st floor. There are no toilet seats and the toilets were very dirty. Hygiene, wrong !!!
Doesn't work at all. Airport like in a developing country. Europe is far away!
Recently renovated passenger waiting area. However, the small luggage delivery room remains a problem
Very dire toilet situation. Very over crowded at peak times. In need of an upgrade to do the beautiful island of Crete justice.
Airport on a human scale, a little dated in the arrival and departure areas ... on the other hand the duty free and the boarding area are recent and well appointed ... the toilets are not very clean but if those who use them use, were careful and respected the places, it would surely not be in this state
Anyone who has all posted bad reviews come on. It is not that bad, but the lines are long though. For the rest just fine.
Such a poor airport that s old, and unequipped despite the many tourists who cross through it daily! Why doesn t the island invest in it since tourists are investing in their country? Bathrooms are disgusting and super outdated, seating is old and dirty, and restaurant choices are limited. To top it off, no WiFi at all! Not at all a fan of this small, sad airport - perhaps the one in Chania is better?
Not so clean but very busy in the covi19 period because everything went very well and quickly I was very surprised. Info for smokers only outside and the cigarettes were out or very expensive better buy beforehand.
Excellent all works well elevators and escalator 10/10
An impertinence, thought that would be a joke, but you can hardly get ahead.
A band had dropped out and the chaos has broken out. Hardly any space to move. Never again Crete, would love to come back for a better airport.
Tragedy. There is no worse airport in Europe !!!!! Haos mega queue misinformation. Just a tragedy. And this is supposed to be their everyday life
Never seen such a bad airport. There will be 10 seats in all, the trolleys for non-existent suitcases .... there are no words
Very small, confusing airport. Check in and security check were okay. The chaos starts in the departure lounge. The airport is underutilized for the masses of passengers. It is just too loud so that you hardly understand the announcements. If a flight is delayed, it will not be adjusted on the display boards. You stand there and wait.
The Greeks are ashamed. And you better organize. The airport does not handle the onslaught of tourists. So does the maintenance of the premises. Including awful toilets.
Everything is said in the previous opinion
In addition the Gyros has more than 11 euro it is not necessary to take us for c ..
Very dirty and awful smelling toilets.Incredible. Never have seen this before at an airport. Very chaotic place where you have to check in. Some hostesses were screaming and shouting to passengers instead of using a microphone.
Worst Airport EVER! Structure completely inadequate. Wild queues without clear indications.
Heraklion airport has just been brought up to date.
The check-in area is still as confusing as ever, but beyond customs, the difference is clear. Finally, the airport has a duty free worthy of the name. It offers perfume, watches, food and more. Enough to spend a little time before taking the plane.
The waiting area seems smaller than before and the microphones not yet fully operational.
Even outside the main season (October 25th) there is an uncomfortable crowd in the hall. Even 90 minutes before departure, the information board did not yet show which counter was responsible for the check-in of our flight. To hand in the suitcase, you have to wait in a second line for the X-ray equipment, the employee behind the monitors talking to a colleague all the time and not looking at the monitor. Toilets without litter boxes, paper, soap and towels. Urine puddles everywhere. Duty-free completely overpriced (sometimes factor 3.5 - 4 at normal prices!). Departure hall with insufficient seats. Gate information late. Announcements hardly understandable and sometimes with incorrect information.
Small, familiar and wonderfully chaotic, not for the philistine
The biggest issue with the airport was that there is only wifi in the departures terminal (close walk) that has a poor connection. My recommendation would be to pre-plan your route and directions prior to leaving your departing airport as this one is not user friendly to use if you do not have an international or European flight plan and land in the later evening/night when there are no airport staff available to help. Getting a taxi was very straightforward as well as picking up your luggage. Not too sure about the bus system - we arrived late and opted to take a taxi for simplicity purposes.
