Catastrophic! I have never experienced such a chaotic handling of passengers. Our flight to Munich was listed under Bremen, which caused a lot of confusion. The check-in counter was also incorrectly indicated on the scoreboard. At some point you stood in line in the midst of the masses of tourists, only to find out at the end from the staff that HERE only the luggage can be weighed, but not checked in. To do this, please queue again at a meter long line. Needless to say, there were again considerable waiting times at the security check-in and at the gate. Due to this chaotic organization and absolute bad planning on the part of the airport, our aircraft could only take off with a delay of over 40 minutes. Never again!

An excellent modern airport that can accommodate even the largest aircraft. Spacious waiting rooms with comfortable seating. There are a large number of snack bars and duty free with alcohol, candy, perfumery. A sufficient number of toilets and lifts. Very clean, helpful staff.

I consider this airport rather small with very dirty and smelly toilets. You need to take your luggage (which should go to the airplane storage) to the X-ray by yourself. Our airplane was delayed, then it suddenly disappeared from the screen for more than an half an hour, without any explanation by the personnel. The advantage is, you can charge your phone and with phone, you could kill some time when you are waiting.

Awful. The check in area is dark and filthy. The bathroom was flooded and no one cared. Nothing is posted. If you ask where you need to go, none of the employees know. Most of the flights around mine were delayed for some reason.

Small druke airport.

Small druke airport.
Spacious check-in counter.
Well organized customs.
After customs you pass through a huge duty-free store, which makes it not very clear. Behind it are the waiting area for the gate.
Nice view over the airport.
Enough to see.

A small airport and very clear!
Unusual is that you first get the ticket at the counter and then brings the suitcase to the luggage belt. The staff speaks fluent English in addition to the language and is very friendly.

The airport doesn't work at all.

The airport doesn't work at all.
Crete is beautiful, the hotels and restaurateurs strive to
but then leaving the island at Heraklikon Airport ...
No exact indication of where the check in is, then the suitcase on the belt
lay to weigh - from there through the masses of people
with the suitcase to the security check.
Then security check for hand luggage - OK around
to get into a completely overcrowded departure lounge.
There, of course, only incorrect information about the departure gate.
All the displays on the electronic boards are faulty.
I hadn't been able to find a correct display on the boards.
So I did my check in at the counter for Kiev, the gate was Amsterdam .. still arrived in Paderborn.
Without a star I can not give a rating, there is also no 5 minus. The
worst airport I've ever entered ...

While it was not as bad as I expected (2 stars on Google, let's say my expectations were not high) I see why people have multiple complaints regarding the airport. Yeah, the toilets are very old and don't seem too well maintained. It is extremely crowded, and I cannot imagine what happens when it's the holiday season (I was lucky enough to fly from there in september, so the craze was over). My line for the check-in was quite long but moved with a consistent reasonable pace, waiting time wasn't too bad. Everybody that I interacted with was nice.
The duty free zone seems to be brand new and is a pleasant place to be in - although again - it was very crowded. For now 2.5 stars would be adequate but the option is not available, luckily for you Heraklion :)

The airport is very good. The handicapped service is great ..... And now comes the big BUT
We had reserved a rental car. Unfortunately the landlord only had 1 employee on that day. No problem. We always rent our cars from AVANCE in Greece. First class service.
As I said, the employee was alone. So we took a taxi because we didn't know where to find AVANCE.
What we experienced in this taxi was the horror. When asked for directions by the taxi driver, he scolded straight away. Asked if we want to fool him. The landlord is only 7 to 800 meters away. Apparently he didn't care that a disabled person was sitting in the car. When driving out of the airport, he threatened to stop and throw us out. After a brief argument, he drove to the landlord with tirades of the best Cretan kind. The suitcase was taken out of the car and thrown there. As he paid, he crumpled up the money and threw it carelessly into his trunk. He said he wouldn't stand around the airport for seven hours to be fooled by people. The tip should be pushed into the A ....
Then he got personal and insulted me with the filthiest words in the Greek vocabulary. When I replied that I was going to call the police, there was almost a fight
It's good that you reacted prudently.
These are mafia methods of the worst kind and in no way advertising for tourism in Greece, which is already suffering.
Anyway, it was the first and last time that we got into a taxi at Heraklion airport .......

On departures the store is rudimentary, with few items. Toilets without toilet paper, no soap on wash basins, no paper to wipe hands. The temperature throughout the room is 27 degrees Celsius.

Dirtiest , most over crowded airport I have ever been to and will affect any decisions to return to Crete as long as it remains like this.
The list goes on but here are a few
no toilet seats
broken or blocked urinals
no soap
no air conditioning
lack of seating
airport not cleaned properly anywhere

Small airport, in quite bad condition.
However, the staff is globally helpful (notably on Aegean desks and at security checks), and everything works well.
A bit over crowded in July/August.

Extremely mediocre, a pitiful organization, you must register then take your luggage yourself to the X-ray.
Nothing is done to optimize the flow of passengers.
Dirty, outdated toilet. Defective air conditioning.
Unfortunately inevitable to make it crete.

The worst airport of my life!
We queued unnecessarily for 1h20.
20 minutes before the flight still could not save the luggage.

Normal "hinterland" airport, i.e. a long hall without "comfort". Smokers / steamers have no possibility of smoking / vaping during the multi-hour departure time. The toilets are not clean and / or without a toilet seat. You are happy when you have left this behind.

A small and clear airport. Relatively fast check in and boarding and short walkways. However, a bit old and therefore looks dirty.

I can not say anything about the toilets because I did not have to use them.

I did not see a smoking room.

The duty free shop is however very clean and appealing.

So unfortunately I can only agree with the negative reviews regarding the toilets in the entire airport building. One does not have the impression of being in a European country here.
The handling at the entrance and exit was absolutely fine.

Well, the worst airport I've been to. Two hours for check-in is a MINIMUM. Unusual process: check in does not collect luggage! You have to take it to the X-ray yourself and stand your own in the next long line. Tragedy. There are two X-ray lines at 6 check in, just imagine what's going on.

This airport has not changed in 25 years - an awful over crowded airport lounge with no air conditioning. One member of staff tried to herd us all into a hot and over crowded section of the airport and faced a mini revolt by tired and delayed travellers. This airport lets the island of Crete down especially as the people of Crete are (generally speaking) helpful, warm and welcoming. An entirely unsatisfactory experience after a wonderful weeks holiday.

The airport stuff and management uses private bathrooms, meanwhile the public ones are in disastrous state, most don't even have seats.

Saw the unloading of the luggage from airplane - some of the bags would fall from 3 meter height and no one would care.

On Saturday May 26th we missed our plane due to a display problem on your part. We arrived at 3:40 p.m. at the airport for a departure at 6:05 p.m. ... A departure at 6:05 p.m. Do you find it normal that at 5:50 p.m. (door closing time) people do not know how to answer us? Result the gate is displayed at 6:07 p.m. for a departure at 6:05 p.m. The security let us through and finally announced to us once we got to the door that there was a problem, let us go out again without explaining anything and bring us to the ticket office to make us pay for plane tickets for a Monday departure. The lady at the reception was more than rude (and I remain polite because we were treated like less than nothing) she told us that she was aware of the display problem but that it was not the his and either paid or left. Is this a way of talking to customers? We are the ones who pay your salary, mademoiselle. In short, it is out of the question to set foot in Crete again at this airport.

P.S: do not worry, we will send you the bill for the hotel, taxis, meals and other expenses due to the incompetence of your staff and their unfriendliness;)

Terrible experirence,, too small airport, not equipped for the amount of travelers, people are packed up at departures and also at the gates. Information is poor. I would recommend Chania airport, more west, is still hectic in touristic season of course, but is not so overcrowded. Heraklion is of course extremely touristic, attracting lots of "party" tourists for Chersonissos and Malia. The personnel are doing their best, though, in these poor circumstances.

This airport clearly wasn't build for a big amount of travelers. On a sunday evening they had 3 security scan-ports open (one for the crew and priority) and didn't even check liquids that where still in the luggage. I have seen many airports but this one just blew my mind. Ow and besides. If it's a little crowded, don't expect free seats ;)

The airport was quite nice but bearable. Toilets in the mid-1980s. Clearance. Few seats but no tragedy. A pleasant surprise is the duty-free water: 50 eurocents for a half-liter bottle, just as much as in the island's market. COOL.

I have been to many airports and I have never met ...

I have been to many airports and I have never met such an unpleasant and incompetent person in the security control, at that time there were no more travelers in the security control, we arrived and I prepared to prepare things to pass the control, She asks for the boarding pass, which they never asked me for since they ask her to enter, not when you are already inside, I give it to her and she can not read it, she has to call a friend. Well, it is easy to read, it is to look at the date, the time and the flight leaves that airport, as you do not know how to read it, you start to get angry and as people start to form and line up, you start to get angry, I I was ready to take out the liquids and the electronic things I was carrying, but she took my bags in very bad ways and pushed them to pass the scanner without being able to remove the liquids and electronic products. With people like that they take away the desire to return to Crete.

Arrival was okay, since you do not stay long at the airport.

But departure is a disaster. Everything except the shops and the VIP area is broken somehow (seats, taps, ceiling ...)

If flights are delayed, the guests ready to take off are piled up, which can lead to a serious security problem.

Departed on Monday. The passengers on the (probably only) escalator were pushed into each other, as it just could not go on. Since you do not want to "stick in" ....

We didn't find the airport to be as bad as it was sometimes written here. Yes okay, it was not air-conditioned in the check in area. From the security check. Yes, we had to wait at check in, but it was okay. The employees on site were all very friendly, even the sanitary facilities were relatively clean. However, one should not expect a German standard here. The biggest mess was in front of the airport - parking lots, rental cars, buses - all very tight and mixed up. Stars 3.5 !!

Worst airport in Greece. Heavy traffic during summer season be prepared for long delays. Aegean is using this airport as a hub offers no lounge access to business class passengers and gold miles and bonus members. Sometimes the departure hall is so crowded that there is no empty seat. A disgrace for both Crete and Aegean

Arrival ok, baggage claim went quickly; Departure: despite punctual arrival at the port, chaotic conditions: long queue at the ceck in and no getting ahead (3 hours!), Security control also eternally long queues and chaos, notice boards completely chaotic (gate, return flight supposedly with a stopover), timely boarding in danger, but it seems to be "normal" that planes depart late, in comparison with other also older and small ports by far bad underground - Crete is of course always worth a trip and the shortcoming "airport" does not spoil my good and good memories
