Everything went very smoothly. Despite restrictions.
Very long queues, very dirty toilets stink! Everything was very dirty and expensive. This airport is nothing unlike German airports! That was the worst airport I have seen! Bad
Well you come from A to B. Positive: On arrival, the luggage was very fast, staff are friendly and hard-working.
Negative:
- very unfashionable and old
- Bad guidance, crowded entrance hall
- very small at high frequency
- Dirty toilets without drying possibility for the hands
- Hardly food, and the there are very uncomfortable, but expensive.
- After the Sec. Check, there is very little to see.
One of the worst airports I've seen.
Long queue on baggage drop off, but no barriers forming the lines --> chaos
Need to fill out a paper form, but no pens provided.
Only one bakery/cafe at the gates. Long queue through entire duty free
Eventually, overloaded WiFi
Worst airport ever. Wish I could give it less than one star.
The airport is very crowded and the toilets are awful. Dirty, doors can not be locked, hands can not be dried, etc. And overall, the airport is not really neat.
1h40 to register the luggage because the conveyor belt never advances. The hostesses must themselves put the suitcases where there is room at the back of the carpet.
We were 1 minute away from missing the plane when we were 2 hours early
Airport that is crowded in the summer with more flights added. Good service. Parking is a bit tricky.
If Google had no star I would proudly have awarded it to Heraklion. Travelled the world, but this is definitely the worst, most unefficient and non-organized airport on the planet. Every airport in central Africa was better organized. Farewell Heraklion.
Poor, broken toilets, air conditioning not working. Duty free
Great chaos during Covid times. All flights at the same time and massive crowd at departure.
Nice airport
Nothing special
By far the worst airport I have ever seen. Apparently the Greeks do not value hygiene. , The toilets are absolutely not usable. , Dirty, no toilet seats, flushing does not fun, no soap and water, toilet paper anyway not and then I was afraid, fetched me a fungal infection. The airport itself is similar to the toilets. It is a joke, what a tourist who has paid a lot of money for the flight gets offered there. , never again Heraklion or Crete ... Pooh
A typical small Greek airport. Not too much comfort compared to most European airports.
Friendly tiny airport. They will take you to the planes by bus. It is impossible to get lost.
It's the Far West, get ready to run from one end of the airport to the other! A worrying organization: unable to display the correct boarding gates.
Never in my life have I been to an airport so weak, dirty, under construction and completely third-world!
I have no words to describe my disillusionment with this airport, although the staff are super efficient.
A real construction site, at the beginning of the high season.
I even saw two policemen smoking in the restricted area for access to planes !!
The luggage took a long time to arrive but otherwise, the exit was done quite quickly despite the covid test
Normally, perhaps a bit narrow spaces for baggage claim
Small and crowded airport. When we arrived on our way back, people were already standing outside on the street to check in. The security line also went through the whole hall. After the security check there are hardly any opportunities to pass the time. You walk through the duty free and then have 1-2 options to buy food and drinks. Hardly any seats for the number of flights.
Accessibility, car rental, baggage drop and security check are ok. Toilets below every level and the departure hall Is even worse than a South American prison ;-) do they not have air conditioning? Staff friendly.
Among the worst I have seen in Greece. Chaos with the bags. Sent 3 planes on the same tape.
Everything well marked, easy to find your way, but busy during the holiday period
Great experiences, scent, sitting on the floor for lack of seats, briefing lasting an hour and the icing on the cake is "shitting on Malysz" :)
Very dirty, no announcements for flight delay, unfriendly staff at the security check.
Saigon is a delicate description of what is happening there before check-in ... TOTAL CHAOS and lack of any information ... You have a mega queue to check your baggage and when you are first it turns out that your luggage has no sticker and you go to the end to the next queue and waiting for an hour to wrap up and then you are again at the end of the previous one to declare ... At the gate the customs officer squeezed exactly the child and let me pass with a cell phone in his pocket, watch on his hand and belt ... Move the gate gun is no problem! MASSACRE!!! Third World...
Everything went very quickly and wonderfully! Both on the outbound flight and on the return flight
If you have to go there then use one of the VIP lounges with fast tracking on the first floor, otherwise the experience will spoil your trip.
A Greek airport just. Little comfort ... but what do you expect? Not all lightning is blank, you can probably think well. But what bothers me a bit is that the airport has been overtaxed for years with the masses of tourists. But okay ... is the same with pretty much every tourist island. You could also revise your website. Everything else okay.
awful airport: unstructured, dirty, getting old and way too narrow
Conclusion: never again about Heraklion
A zoo is the only way to describe it. Not enough seating, filthy toilets, poor restaurants and shops. With the volume of traffic that goes through this airport in the Summer months, there is a huge opportunity for improvement and also profit to be made. On the positive side, at least my flight was on time, so didn't need to spend any additional time than was needed.
The worst airport I've been to. In Samara in 2011, and then everything is much faster and better. Delusional work with baggage. A huge queue for gates (i.e. if you received a boarding pass - this does not mean that you will calmly go through the border and search). After receiving the coupon, they stood for more than an hour to get to the border windows, there another 20 minutes (only 2 windows work), then another 15 minutes during the inspection of hand luggage. Just awful!!!! Because of him, I will no longer go to Crete. Compared to Larnaca in Cyprus, this is some kind of 1970 !!! Just a mess. The airport in Lappeenranta is much more progressive !!
Simple, uncomplicated ..... both arrival and departure. Top
You know, I find it really funny when all the German people complain about the situation in this airport.
The airport is owned the last months by the German company Fraport AG.
So if you really have some problems, write a nice letter and send it to Frankfurt.
Can you imagine this is how it looks and organized during covid 19 pandanmic?
Many and many small airport for the large amount of people who fly from here. Baggage belts do not work, you cannot walk around normally, toilets are dirty and do not have basic needs.
Crowded, dirty, counter hall not air conditioned. Delays in the agenda.
Huge inefficient check-in. No working aircon. Dreadful airport!
Worst airport ever, you can't smoke and
get beer
Have been to about 15 different airports but the one in Heraklion is just a joke !! The staff is unfriendly and incompetent or cleanliness is not respected the airport is like a public garbage dump!
Greek, slightly chaotic looking for parking spaces, currently quite manageable due to the rather reduced number of flights and tourists. but definitely too small if it were normal operation. good that a new one is under construction
A small and clear airport. The arrival area is in need of renovation but is functional. Check-in at the counters of the travel companies in front of the airport quickly reaches its limits.
The departure area is much more modern and friendly. Duty free is available and relatively large for the airport.
I find the prices of the drinks particularly positive - 0.75l water for 75ct.
Updated review recently been back to Crete and used the airport again. Our inboard flight was good experience. Passport checked bags collected and found our rep and got our taxi. Outbound the same as last time got checked-in then took our hold bag to x-ray and got them done then to person search bag scan security after that. Alot better lay out with the new duty-free and plane gates. Word is the new airport will open in 2023 and work starts in 2019.
Small airport, quite some queues.
More or less in time.
Duty free is not big, but you could find all the essentials there.
Business lounge is very small and poor.
Unfortunately, the airport does not have the best hygienic conditions.
What a hell hole. Get yourself upstairs down one of the darkened corridors if you want a socket to use whilst you munch on your limp 7 euro cheese sarnie.
After depositing the luggage and after the mirroring, there is a large and refurbished fruit duty free with food so don't get stuck in the entrance!
No baby wipes to buy anywhere here so hoping she won't take a dump until we're home...
Land-side is appalling. Absolutely the worst airport I ve been to for years. Filthy toilets, chaotic queueing for baggage check in and some rude staff in security. Airside, much better and it looks like they ve tried to come into the 21st century. Only 1 food outlet airside but the sandwiches, coffee and fresh juice were really good. Shopping was very standard fare and my only complaint was that cashiers stood around chatting instead of serving, with several tills unmanned completely.
I d been warned that Heraklion airport is grim and parts of it definitely are , but the new bits are very nice. I really want them to keep improving it.
Small, crowded, hot. Everest cafe awful. Cold burger, greasy fries, rock-hard sandwich... Extortionate price. No other food options available. Dire.
Meets its purpose. But not more.
A sandwich / sandwich costs between 5-7 and a coke (0,5l) 3,50 .
The check-ins apparently saved and early in the morning is not a lot of staff on the way.
The queue was long with us and was slow.
For safety, I can not say anything, I have not seen anything of the kind. What I can not understand, since even the bus drivers have said that many thieves are supposed to be traveling here.
The cleanliness and functionality is not exactly the best.
The toilets are really disgusting and have apparently not been maintained for years.
Completely overloaded, too little seating, sanitary hygiene catastrophic. Even a star is too much, have already seen one or the other airport in poor condition, but this surpasses everything.
The scariest airport I've ever seen. Toilet for eating, completely overcrowded. Air conditioning too cold. This fucking port is reason enough to avoid the island!
Small but cozy, fast, comfortable, right by the sea
Few explanations ... A little lost !!! But nice staff
Dirty toilets, and the check-in staff is so unfriendly. Here vacationers are treated like criminals. They felt a little girl about 18 months in front of us. The little one was totally upset.
It is a shame for Crete, and for Greece in general, to have such an airport. Anyone who can avoid it can do it. This airport needs to be refurbished urgently.
Employees and staff do a great job! It has good air conditioning! And it's absolutely safe! That's why I only show five stars! Also most of you have no complaints because you are malicious!
Top airport, quick check-in and very friendly staff
Small airport that looks neglected.
There's not much choice for food in the departure lounge. Best to head for the restaurant upstairs before security screening. Nice pasta bolognese for 9
Fortunately check in and security checks went smooth and fast for us.
Nothing to say

I have always found the airport staff to be helpful and professional. Unfortunately, it is a small airport hardly covers the needs for the area. There is a huge issue in Crete about Heraklion Airport. There is an ongoing talk to built a new airplane in kastelli because the current airport has no room to expand.
Everything went great. Can not understand the bad reviews. Have not had to wait 5 minutes. Is evt. Also on the flight times, arrived early in the morning and early flown home. Happy that we did not pay 80 euros for the VIP service to have.
No respect to turist going home, AT ALL. Standing for more than hour in one quee and than change to another. Unbearably hot.
It's like being in a town airport. This is a little hall of SNCF station. But hey it has a certain charm ...
Huge wait queues for baggage check. The waiting area for departing from the airport is small, with a small screen for information if there are delays. Before you pass the test, there are 2 ancient screens that simply tell which gate to navigate. They do not report delays, which are frequent especially in the summer.
On arrivals even worse, since there are 2-3 suitcases for carrying a suitcase that have passengers with at least 4 flights. There is no room for you to go out.
It is necessary to upgrade the airport premises yesterday!
The airport is maybe the oldest and more uncomfortable I have seen.
Small, cluttered and stuffy airport ... speakers are too loud, if you sit next to them you will be blown off your seat. Upstairs you still have some seating without being crammed together (which you do downstairs). And this is still in the low season, the high season will be even worse. The gyros were the only plus point, which is tasty!
