I don't have much respect for this hotel based on its managements' behavior. When a local minister explained in detail that he wanted to pay for homeless family to spend Christmas indoors, they, at first, agreed. They then backed out, after the family had been given the voucher claiming that they had issues with security.
First of all, that's unethical. You make an agreement, you stand buy it.
Second, it's prejudicial. They had no reason to claim that any member of this family would sexually attack someone. They are suggesting that just because people are poor that they are criminal even though they have respected members of the community not only vouching for them, but providing the financing for the evening.
Third, it's atrocious business practices. Beyond, it being unethical, it's amazingly bad PR. "Let's act like Scrooge and renege on a business contract at the last minute which forces a homeless family to literally be out in the cold on Christmas." Instead of going through with the agreement and wallowing in the glow of free good publicity, they shot themselves in the foot and have garnered for themselves bad publicity which will cost them individual reservations, group reservations and the respect of other businesses who will have to wonder if they make a habit out of backing out of business contracts at the last minute. Whoever made this decision needs to go back to business school and also consider joining the human race.
Came here for a wedding reception and the dance floor had such narrow walls! The ladies bathroom was well equipped however...
If you have a nice car don't stay here!!!! Horrible management. Stay was rude... I attended my sisters wedding at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington DE. I valeted my my car because I was staying the night. On October 21,2017 when my car was pulled back around from the valet I notice that my rim and my tire had been scratched. When I said something to valet they told me that this would have to handle on Monday. I was very apprehensive and wanted to make sure that this would be taking care of so i asked for an incident report. I was told by the manager that they couldn't give one and that this is the hotel DuPont we will follow through. I was shocked I could get some sort of documentation stating what had happened! So they gave me their business cards and sent me on my way because nothing could be done on a Saturday. Monday came around and I never received a phone call. I decided to call myself the next day and the man in-charge of vallet, Presley Nelson was very rude and told me he needed to call me back. I never got a call back and had to call him back several days later and left messages. When I finally got a hold of him he told me there was nothing they could do and that they were not responsible for the damage. How aren't they responsible? I gave them the keys to my car....I just want them to replace the 1 rim. Its the principle!!!
I have video and pictures of the damage on Hotel DuPont's property. My mother spent $40,000 on a wedding there the night before and the fact that no one is owning up or even cared at all concerns me! Now I have a damaged rim. Horrible way to end a special event for my family!
Really nice ! The surrounding area is great too for a relaxing getaway. Staff was super friendly just know that in your last day I will get charged for every little thing. Had some friends visit for 3 hours and was billed for 2 extra cars. We had to pay for an error by the valet. Aside from this experience the dining was decent had a few options for food. Face staff was 100/10 great friendly and full of energy made all of our meals fun.
Beautiful historic hotel and excellent service been there twice in 3mo. But the rooms can use a little update. Other than that well recomended
Beautiful accommodations and excellent service that compare with the finest classic hotels in larger cities.
I consider this hotel's Christmas cancellation of rooms booked by a good Samaritan for some of Wilmington's homeless to also disqualify me, even though I have a home, from EVER staying at Hotel du Pont.
There was someone's clothes still in my room and the management was rude beyond belief. There's better places to stay than here, also for cheaper.
Hotel and wedding venue was very nice but warning: Free Valet is not free if your coming for a wedding and not staying over. Poor signage guys, felt very taken advantage of to cap off a fantastic evening. Even the invitation said complimentary valet. Get it together, way to leave a bad taste.
My mom loves this historic hotel. It is rich in history and we have many good memories. The green room is a nice treat and highly recommend getting a taste of refinement and culture. Oh and the food is great. The bar is fun for happy hour. I've actually never stayed at the hotel. I have been to weddings in the ballroom and concerts at the playhouse.
Christmas day brunch was awesome and reasonable. The hotel is beautiful.
Went to the hotel du pont for a wedding and everything was great. The food and drinks were good and the people working we're very professional
I will never, ever EVER return to this hotel again. Turning paid guests away because they are homeless is deplorable. I will tell everyone I know how horrible this place is.
I've stayed at the DuPont several times for work and I've never had an issue. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I've stayed in a few different rooms but they're all spacious and always clean.
Not my first time here and while the staff is quite good and the rooms are large and nice, the lighting is beyond poor. Not enough light to read anywhere in the room and the makeup area has the dimmest lights coming from two wall sconces. They need to resolve this problem....
Good Hotel in the middle of downtown. A little much on the pomp., and the restuarant is way overpriced for the food... but friendly staff, nice rooms, great fitness center and clean.
Elegant and beautiful. Spacious rooms with very comfortable bedding. The food is also very good.
Attended a wedding dinner reception. Excellent food and over all service.
I have never been so upset. I've visited this hotel for meals previously and never had such a horrible experience as I did. Was the last guest for breakfast with Santa. Arrived with my three children. The buffet was empty. Food missing. Condiments gone. I had to chase down a server to get drinks. They felt quite irritated to be bothered by me. I was so upset. Went to the hostess and she said that they were bringing more food for my kids to actually have breakfast. Waited for twenty minutes and decided to make due. My kids were really disappointed and the Santa they had sat on a stage and didn't interact. My kids tried talking to him and he said a few short words and told my kids that time was up and he had to go. Rushed us away. When that happened I was beyond furious. I went to find the hostess, and they were gone. It was a horrible experience. I paid for valet and paid for food we didn't even get to have that was listed initially on the menu. I called the hotel and left a message for the hotel for manager with no response. This hotel should be ashamed of themselves. They let down three little kids.
Great Historical Hotel in the heart of Downtown Wilmington Delaware
Here is the story.
Okay, I have a story that has been brewing since before Christmas. Before I aired this on social media I wanted to give the other side several opportunities to make this situation right but as I expected they turned out to be the cowards this world seems to accept. I am tired of people pushing things under the carpet for the sake of "personal satisfaction" or "need to know" ... so, I am going to do whatever is ethical, moral and legal to expose the ones responsible for what happened......
Here's what happened -
2 days before Christmas I wanted to take a few that this world calls "Homeless" off the streets of this dark city. I spoke to several managers about my plan to book a suite at the Hotel DuPont (yeah, could have rented a 20 dollar motel room but how is that helping them, isn't that telling them ...that 20 dollar room is all they are worth?) So a conversation ensued with several reservation specialists at the Hotel DuPont in downtown Wilmington, DE who's job it is to offer accommodations to ANYONE no matter race, creed, sexual preference, color or financial stature.....CORRECT?? So I advised that this suite was going to be for 6 homeless individuals and I was filling it with food and gift baskets. After speaking with management, advising them of every detail and then confirming with night manager "Mike" that additional cots would be provided just in case needed, I was sent a confirmation letter and check in date of 12/25/2014 for one night in the amount of $639.00 - Before I mentioned this to the ones that were going to be staying I made every effort to clarify and make known every detail. I was confident that there were NO questions or concerns. I then walked down under a bridge where some call home (see photo below) and gave them the great news ... many tears were shed and they were given hope that night...... UNTIL...On Christmas day, 3 hours before check in... the director of security from the Hotel DuPont ("Presley") made the decision NOT TO HONOR the reservation for this reason - He said "What if one of THOSE PEOPLE rape or rob one of my guests".......
I was heartbroken, the ones that were so looking forward to this just said "Matt, its okay, we are used to it.." NO IT AINT OKAY... AND I AINT SITTING STILL ....so I am asking for all your thoughts and opinions on this and would humbly ask you to share this story and help let all know how the rich treat anyone they think is "beneath their standards"... Please pray for the ones that have no place to call home .... please

It was OK. A little underwhelming. It could be me and my expectations. When I booked the hotel, I was looking for a unique, slightly upscale experience in a older hotel. It looks like the website, but I found the experience did not live up to MY expectations. The room had things that didn't work (e.g. TV had to be connected, the tub stopper was broken). In the age of COVID, you would think extra cleaning, but there was dust on the TV cabinet (I guess that's OK, maybe it meant no one touched it at least).
Otherwise, it was comfortable and quiet. The rooms are large which is nice. It looks very stately which is cool too.
Went for a wedding - stayed 2 nights. This hotel is superb. Employees from parking to housekeeping to food service to front desk were helpful, efficient, and happy! The building itself is a work of art. Don't forget to look up at the decorative ceilings and chandeliers. We ate breakfast in the dining room: a nice menu, great service, very good food (see photo with quartet balcony!). Our daughter used the spacious work out room. Our hotel room had a large bathroom, large sitting area and king bed. The cost was comparable to other hotels that aren't nearly as nice. Treat yourself!
Lavishly furnished and beautifully decorated, the Hotel DuPont is a trip back to the decadence of days gone by in as stylish, modern aesthetic. The rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped. The cafe breakfast was tasty, fresh and generous. Dinner at the green room was decadent and delicious. Recommended if you're in town for business, celebrating a milestone or out for a night on the town.
$35 for valet parking (charged from the hotel) plus a tip and I waited almost an hour for my car...?! I realized my key was just hanging on the hook. I had to go outside and confront the valet standing around and he was shocked as well even though I watched the front desk call my car number/color in. The young man came back with my car almost a minute or two later. I loved the experience until my departure and now I m left feeling frustrated at what I was charged to valet my car and not getting the valet experience only the valet cost.
Service at the Green Room was incredible. Felt very taken care of and the duck was delicious (the Sunday dinner price was very reasonable). Will return if another opportunity arises.
A beautiful setting for a wedding. They did a lovely job with the menu and the hotel employees were all courteous and helpful.
The hotel Dupont is a true historical landmark, as well as the best hotel I've ever stayed it. It is beyond anything one could imagine. I have traveled the world, as well as the entire United States...it's amazing architecture inside and out makes Rittz Carlton, The Four Seasons, or an Intercontinental seem like a Budget inn. It's also beyond any high end non-chain hotel in the world.
Attended a professional dinner and the vegetarian options were near nonexistent.
The hotel is beautiful and well managed. I was there for a dinner and the food and service was magnificent.
I was charged $37 for the mini bar which was never touch they would not take it off my bill The woman at the front desk was very rude
Very nice hotel. Impressive, spacious rooms with early 20th century decor and charm.
Absolutely amazing. The gold ballroom was a beautiful setting for the Mothers Day brunch event. As expected the food was world class and the service sets a high bar. I can't think of one aspect of our visit that was anything less than spectacular.
Very professional and friendly staff. Definitely has an old world charm and heritage too it. Rooms were quite nice.
Excellent accommodations and service. History place with lots of character.
Not much experience, just a drink at the bar. Small bar.
We had an extremely small room and had to ask for house cleaning. The safe did not work. Very disappointed.
One of the great hotels in the area. Luxurious and opulent.
Excellent Environment, Marvelous Service, Proper Energies From Staff
Was here for a conference. Rooms were good, food was not great. Items (meals were buffet style), weren't labeled, and my co-workers and I had to guess at what things were. Additionally the food was a bit bland. I understand there is new management so perhaps this will improve with time.
Don't you dare try to book a room if you're homeless, they only cater to wealthier clientele, even if those homeless in question have the money to pay. I wouldn't stay at a hotel that treats its guests that way.
A great and historic hotel that is in the downtown section of Wilmington, Delaware.
I want to compliment the excellent staff of the duPont Hotel. I attended the Porter-Barsky wedding on March 15th and stayed overnight. First, the room was beautiful and turn down service was a treat. But the function staff who served the wedding and the brunch on Sunday morning are professional and efficient and wonderful people. Service with style and a smile. Excellent function staff!
Nice place ,room was clean and nicely updated, staff was freindly
The facilities were nice but we did not receive any VIP amenities.
A nice man paid for one nights stay for a homeless mother and her two kids at this hotel and the hotel refused to allow them to stay.
NOT the type of business I would ever support.
My stay was excellent. Meeting rooms and food was very good
Was able to get in on a discount and was well worth every cent! Room had great view and customer service was also well done. Breakfast was about 50$ for two people so bring your wallet. Great coffee and the French toast was above expectations.
The Hotel Du Pont in Wilmington was just as we expected. We were greeted with smiling faces and promptly shown our room and amenities. The breakfast buffet was fantastic as well!
Ate lunch in the cafe, OK food but seemed overpriced. Better lunch options nearby. Seemed school cafeteria like.
How luxurious it is?
Nice and clean
Place seems run down not as nice as the old Dupont owned staff
It was my first time at Hotel Dupont and I had heard great things about the hotel itself and the service.
I was there for the afternoon tea on Wednesday. I tried calling multiple times during the week to get a reservation but no luck. I called Wednesday afternoon and spoke to a lady who told us that they had openings for 3, 315, 330 and confirmed us for 330pm.
We showed up and walked to the Brandywine room and no one was there. We walked to the back of the restaurant and it was empty. We couldn't find a host/hostess to help us so we went to the front desk and ask Mohammed, at concierge, for help. He was also surprised and tried to get us help. We waited about 20 minutes. He called the same lady we had spoke to and she told him, she had misspoken and forgot there was no afternoon tea the day of our reservation. The manager was at a meeting so we couldn't talk to her. No apologies were given and we had to leave.
We traveled 45 minutes for this so our afternoon plans were completely ruined. For an iconic hotel, the customer service and professionalism was abysmal. I will not be returning to this hotel.
Only spent several hours here after a wedding. It was nice.
Cochran wedding was perfect. Kudos to all who had a hand in ensuring we guests had a memorable evening as well as the bride and groom. Thank you
The environment was great and clean. Staff seemed to be 'robotic' with responses, but still very friendly. No DVD player in the rooms, if you planned on bringing movies to watch. Overall, a good stay and I'd recommend.
Love this hotel, have stayed here twice and will stay again! The staff will go above and beyond to make guests comfortable. The room was amazing! Very clean and well stocked with toiletries. I felt like the price point was amazing! The staff were very accommodating and friendly! Definitely will be coming back.
We were there for the Grand Gala event and the night was amazing. The hotel was decorated beautifully. The bands were great and the food was fantastic. We were there with friends which made it much better. We will recommend events held there to friends and family.
Beautiful hotel! The staff there are exellent and will go above and beyond for you! You wont regret staying there!
The Green Room at the Hotel DuPont is a lovely spot for Brunch, Lunch or Dinner. The ambiance is superb with nicely appointed accoutrements. The dark hardwood walls make this a very cozy spot indeed. It will soon undergo a makeover and resume operations as La Cavalier. It is situated in the center of downtown Wilmington on Rodney Square. The food is pretty good. I would rate it as excellent but it is frequently not piping hot. The service is ok but nothing to write home about. My most recent visit I ordered the Scottish Salmon and while it wasn't piping hot it was wonderful with a crisp skin. I substituted french fries for the Risotto that accompanies the dish normally but a friend had it and said it was good.
Had not been back in 20 years. It hasn't changed one bit
Very nice place classy my girlfriend booked this spot for us nice view of the city from our room
Outstanding hotel. As always, impeccable service the entire stay. Staff is professional and courteous.
