A very nice and elegant hotel but overall the facilities are again and are do for a renovation. The staff is excellent, helpful and friendly. The location in downtown Wilmington has some advantages and disadvantages but overall is okay.

This place is incredible. The service is impeccable (the concierge Dennis is especially amazing), the food is delicious and the rooms are unbelievably gorgeous. We are staying here for one night for our anniversary ad could not be more impressed.

I guess I was expecting more since the hotel is a staple of Wilmington. The ambiance and decor in the lobby was really nice. Very traditional/historic looking, clean and beautiful chandelier with the perfect lighting. My room was pretty blah though. It had no refrigerator or microwave, the tv was extremely far from the bed, the bathroom had a huge tub which was cool, but it was definitely outdated and there was really no type of decorations on the walls or anything to make it feel inviting. Pretty much a big bed with a cute headboard, desk and a tv. Overall, good clean hotel, I just dont think the prices of the rooms match the amenities.

The hotel said it canceled a reservation for a $640 suite for six homeless people on Christmas night because they wouldn't have proper identification.

The room had been booked by a Newark man named Matt Senge whose wife used to be homeless. He said he wanted to give the group a treat on Christmas a warm bed and a hot shower.

Senge said that hotel staff members had been enthusiastic and supportive, but that a staff member contacted him three hours before check-in to cancel. Senge said the person didn't mention anything about identification but cited the safety of other hotel guests.

"He said verbatim: 'What if one of those people rapes or robs one of my guests?'" Senge said. "I was devastated."

In addition to Hotel du Pont's change of heart Thursday, two other local hotels agreed to put up homeless people for free for limited stays.

There was inadequate wait staff available to take our order to refill our water glasses 40 generally be present while we ate. The menu was very short on selections but the items that we had were quite delicious. The chef seems to know what he's doing I would not recommend it. Please click 'like' if you like my reviews...

Forty years ago when my husband and I were on graduate school we would splurge once a month and go for brunch at Hotel Du Pont. It was wonderful. Going back was a disappointment. Picture is of their cold appetizer table. You are to serve yourself. It was a good selection as were the desserts BUT they used to have separate hot items including roast beef cut for you, roasted chicken, baked fish, Eggs Benedict etc. Now you must order from only 6 items on a menu. I got a shrimp and sausage omlet. It was cold and there were only 2 shrimp in it. My husband's entry was cold too. Really it was not that crowded! We had to ask for coffee and were served only one glass of champagne. We will not be returning. Place was very quiet versus lobby which was insane.

Despicable lack of hospitality by rejecting homeless patrons who had reservations paid for on Christmas. It's awfully ironic being that you're supposed to be in the business of providing hospitality to strangers.

While it seems there are a lot of negative reviews regarding some sort of homeless stay-over during the holidays, I can only speak to the experience I had. I was extremely impressed with the establishment. I work in luxury hotels so I can spot good service a mile away. I didn't have to reach out to management because not a single thing went wrong on our stay...The room was impressive along with the entire facility. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It was a little weird walking around empty streets on a Saturday night...But as everyone will remind you there, "it's a financial city."

Amazing staff, absolutely beautiful surroundings & a delicious menu, anticipating our next visit greatly. Can t speak highly enough of this place, & the memories created within the walls are some I ll cherish. It s more than just a place, it is an experience I will never forget.

My wife Alycia and I had an Indian/Chinese/Western...

My wife Alycia and I had an Indian/Chinese/Western wedding on a Saturday at the Hotel du Pont. It was the perfect wedding venue for us and here s why:

1) Location: The hotel is located in downtown Wilmington, DE. A very corporate town, which ends up empty on weekends. But that means there s plenty of free/inexpensive parking nearby for guests. A beautiful field is right next to it, ideal for photos. The space was perfect for a large Indian groom s procession around the block with people dancing in the streets behind my car.

3) Food: The sheer number of options spanning diverse cuisine is dizzying. I really appreciated the ability to work with the executive chef to incorporate custom home recipes for Indian dishes native to the northeastern state of Assam (which you don t find represented in Indian restaurants in the US). The dishes ended up quite tasty and pretty authentic! The house wines were also surprisingly good. The appetizers and dessert spreads were my favorite! Rest assured, guests will fondly remember the food at the Hotel du Pont.

4) Excellent Service: The staff maintained the utmost professionalism when interacting with my guests and family. The front desk was always courteous and happy to help. Whenever I visited to tour the different rooms we planned to use, staff were more than happy to show me around. And of course, the final and most IMPORTANT reason for selecting this hotel was for one person, and one person only:

5) Martha Barnes (Markie), catering sales manager and in-house day-of coordinator. She organized and managed the logistical nightmare that was our tri-cultural wedding, and she did it with poise. She handled our incessant emails asking for details regarding the planning process. She deftly answers the litany of questions hurled at her from multiple excited family members during our final meeting prior to the wedding. When we needed to make immediate adjustments to the schedule on the wedding day, Markie facilitated the changes immediately and without fuss. She ushered all of our guests into each of the rooms so that each of our events started on time. She was always present and always reachable. Despite how busy she was, she always served as a source of comfort with her warm and calm demeanor. My wife and I are so incredibly thankful to have worked with Markie. We will not be surprised in the least if she continues her meteoric rise to upper management sooner rather than later.

6) The only frustrating aspect of working with the hotel was that they recently switched computer systems, and as a result, our wedding reservation did not show up on the computer when friends/family tried calling in to make hotel reservations using our group rate. However, they promptly rectified the situation when I brought it to the attention of management. Hopefully, the issue is resolved by now. And in all seriousness, the advantages of using this hotel as a venue far, far outweighed the disadvantages. I have no regrets!

***Summary: The Hotel du Pont is a fantastic wedding venue that truly works with you to create your custom wedding. Martha Barnes, the catering sales manager, is their strongest asset.

My Son Robert and His New Wife Brittany got married at The Hotel DuPont on November 17, 2018 and all I can say that I am extremely disappointed, the Hotel has a Thief roaming around , be very careful to watch Your wedding envelopes, do not take Your eyes off them or the same thing will happen to You , Robert and Brittany were missing 21 envelopes when They got home to Virginia, 10 had checks in them and 11 had cash ( the cash envelope s totaled $2,000 ) the envelopes with checks were never cashed and Robert and Brittany were able to contact Our Guests for which they were re issued, I guess that the Coward or Cowards didn t have the guts to go to a bank and cash them . And I know for a fact that this has happened to another Family on Saturday December 15 th, both theft s occurred in the exact same Bridal suite and just about the same time frame ( 11 pm to 12 pm) so be careful someone is watching Your every move .

Accomodations were spectacular; however, on check-in, desk failed to execute room assignments per reservation and fumbled charges on my credit card and another guest's credit card. Going to reassess visit when credit card charges are transacted.

There's nothing about dinner at The Green Room that wasn't great. The atmosphere was wonderful, the wait staff was very friendly, and the food was amazing! We went for restaurant week, so we got an appetizer, main, and dessert for a great price. Each dish was unique in flavor and very enjoyable!

Overall a very nice and fancy hotel and wedding venue. I enjoyed my time here. Valet parking was a little sub par since there a very long wait. At times it seemed like there was an illusion of fanciness because it was missing some things you would find at a best Western such as a microwave or a fully functional air-conditioning system. The wedding ceremony and reception were a blast and the food was good. One of the better weddings I have been too.

The Green Room offers a beautiful dining location ...

The Green Room offers a beautiful dining location and it's very convenient especially if you are seeing a show. As a restaurant however it is very inconsistent both in food and service. Tonight unfortunately was a very off night. My wife and I arrived an hour and a half before the show. Our server immediately rushed over and told us we needed to order right away or we wouldn't make our show even though it was an hour and a half away. We asked for a drink menu and he rushed away for 15 minutes. We he returned he did so without the drink menu. We ordered, and promptly completely ignored the rest of the evening. Another gentleman took pity on is and took our drink order. He knew his stuff and made great suggestions. Finally out good arrived (salmon and lamb chops). Both were WAY overcooked compared to how we had ordered them. Frankly we both would have sent them back except by this point we were running short on time. Our server did not deliver our food and never once stopped by to enquire how it was. Meanwhile we observed servers at other tables check in many times. I nearly always tip at least 20% because serving is a tough job. This time the job was so poorly done I only went 10 which is extremely rare for me. The Green Room is a pricey restaurant. Ambiance alone isn't enough to justify the cost. The food and service need some work.

Great food and superb service. Moderate menu prices, less expensive than I thought it would be. Very good location to dine before attending theatre in Wilmington. I like the old world opulent decor which I hate to see changed. It is about to be renovated. Booking is tough due to patrons making the last table before renovation. I hope they don't lose the very appealing music from musicians balcony.

A little spooky... Historic building, very museum like. Needs many upgrades. After checking in, I was so uninspired by the room that I went back downstairs to the front desk and cancelled my reservation. I just couldn't stay there overnight..

I stayed at this hotel in 2018 for the first time and was impressed by the beautiful architecture and the history of this building.

The main dining room (knowns as The Green Room) which is now under refurbishment was magnificent! Food was well presented and delicious! Service was top notch.

Now in 2020, I look forward to going to the new Green Room again. Le Cavalier will be the new name for this grand dining room. Can t wait!

Having said that, my current stay is great! Service is excellent! Food is still as well presented as last time and perfectly cooked. Staff are amazing! Can t wait to come back again!!

Got to mention the almond cookies after dinner, it s amazing! Also worth mentioning is the breakfast. Super healthy with a variety of fruits. The oats with apple chunks and cinnamon is to die for!

My experience at Hotel Du Pont was abysmal to say ...

My experience at Hotel Du Pont was abysmal to say the least. While the architecture and design of the hotel is quite elaborate, the same cannot be said for the atrocious service received. I booked a block of hotel rooms for my wedding in September about a year in advance. We dropped off gift bags individually labeled for each guest as the bags contained specific directions for them. The representative we dropped the bags off to was visibly frustrated with it but did not say anything. We learned the next day that the hotel was not giving out bags to specific guests as requested, causing much confusion. When I called them to discuss the representative said they would fix it. But, they continued to just hand out bags without looking at names. When the mother of the bride called again to discuss, they once again said they would fix it. But still, they did not, as evidenced by the fact that we witnessed no more than 10 minutes after that call the Hotel Du Pont representative telling a guest they are all the same:. It s not the fact that they handed out gift bags to the wrong individuals, it s the fact that they blatantly lied to our family multiple times and did nothing to mention the issues it may cause when we dropped off the bags. This was only the beginning of our troubles.

I also stayed at the hotel the night before my wedding and was to be moved to the honeymoon suite the next night. I called multiple times to the front desk and they assured me they would move my bags for me and have a room card ready. Alas, when I came back to the hotel after my wedding, it took 20 minutes to find my reservation, even though everything should have been arranged. My new wife and I had to stand at the front desk, in our full wedding attire, while the woman behind the counter struggled to even figure out how to check us in, something you d think she d know how to do since that s a large portion of her job. Again, another example of the lies and deceit by the hotel.

As I stated before, the rooms were elaborate but absolutely needed updating. In both rooms I stayed in the showers did not drain. And in the honeymoon suite the bathtub s drain stopper did not work and the sink leaked. For a 5 star hotel this shows the lack of attention to detail in what should be one of their finer rooms.

When I talked to family and friends, they all noted similar issues with staff. Multiple guests were charged the full room rate and not the agreed upon block rate causing more confusion. Also, some guests were charged for valet parking even though the block included complimentary valet. But I think more guests would have been better on their own as it took some 20-30 minutes to receive their cars.

We arranged to have my mother pick up the best man s suit rental from behind the front desk. She picked it up, only to realize when she was over 30 minutes away that she received someone else s suit. She requested the suit by name but they couldn t manage that. Then they told the owner of the mystery suit that his suit had been requested by name and picked up. It s worth it to note that the best man at my wedding and the mystery suit owner do not have even remotely the same name so there s no excuse.

The lack of attention to detail, atrocious customer service, and lies by the Hotel s Representatives were experienced not only by myself but also by multiple guests. While this hotel is historic, it is nowhere close to the value they charge.

4am Loud Sex in the Next Room

4am Loud Sex in the Next Room

The absolute worst!

I was willing to overlook the noisy fridge, the bathtub that dripped all night long and the lingering smell of cigarettes.

I will never forget the loud moans and screams at 4am from the room next door though! I called the front desk, but nothing changed. So I went to the front desk and got laughed at! I was offered ear plugs and told we would work it out in the morning.

I didn't sleep because of the noises next door (screaming, spanking, etc.) and in the morning I went to the front desk again. They were just as unhelpful as before, refused a refund and refused to let me speak to a manager. What the hell?!?!?

I will never ever stay here again, but you should feel very safe to have loud sex here all night long without being interrupted by hotel staff.

Room Tip: If you want a good room go to a different hotel

We had the most wonderful experience at Hotel Du Pont. Everything was perfect and very classy. We stayed there for one night, had dinner in the green room. There was live piano music which made the stay even better. The place is huge and has a very historic touch to everything. The brunch was amazing and with brunch comes the free valet parking. The rooms were very comfortable and made our stay amazing. Very HAPPY. We will come back again.

I stayed in this hotel several times in the past few years. I can honestly say that the room was beautiful and the staff was OK. I really did not have a lot of contact with them except to check in and out. I have read all the entries for the Homeless people and honestly I imagine that the hotel has a liability that they must cover for all the other patrons. It is sad that homeless people need places to stay but why would one think that is the responsiblity of a hotel. Maybe a city. There should be shelters for all homeless specially in the middle of the winter. To place the burden on this hotel and than rate than down rate them is as mean as what you are accusing them of doing.
Maybe someone can plan a little better for the next bitter Christmas and provide a nice place for these people with a bette celebration.
My stay was very nice at this hotel. This is not a paid entry and I am in no way afflitated with this hotel. I wrote this review because I was shocked at the rating and wanted to see why it was so low.

Vintage! We had a company off-site here and it was wonderful! The crew was friendly and the facilities we're truly top class. Yet to stay here, but I'm sure it'll be an experience. If you can afford it, definitely worth the experience!
