Just wanna share my experience with everyone. Visited here for a family trip and it was an memorable and wonderfyl time of my life. Great location, view was outstanding and affordable services. The whole staff was very friendly and friendly environment. food services were quick and it was healthy and tasty. Very overwhelming place!!
Beds are ok comfortable. Rooms are very nice with wet bar and swiveling flat screen tv. I have stayed at this hotel many many times and has always been clean and nice. The area is a little rough and there are a few restaurants down the street. The hotel restaurant isn't anything memorable but nice.
We really enjoyed every aspect of our stay at Hotel Du Pont. Highly recommend.
A place where you will feel yourself a royal personality. The whole staff ovr there were so cooperative and responsible towards their work. The room were very clean hygienic and comfortable . Great housekeeping service. Liked that place
Great Dinner, Great Service, Great Rooms, Great People, all around amazing hotel, if you're any where near Delaware, come here just for the time!!!
Beautiful historic establishment. Excellent service and lovely accommodations!
Spent the night here for two nights, the service was great, rooms were large and very clean. It has a pretty good gym as well.
Great Place but I will never stay there again even if they did finally apologize. How cruel can you be? One day you might end up just as these individuals and praying for a warm place to say for just one nite.
Homeless people will be staying at the Hotel du Pont after all.
The hotel's cancellation of a reservation for a group of homeless people to stay there Christmas night, which became public Thursday, sparked outrage and outreach from another hotel's management.
Where Wilmington's most prominent lodging refused a $639 reservation for one room for one night, the general manager of a Stanton-area hotel is responding by offering 10 of them free for Thursday night.
And Thursday evening, Lisa Bolten, director of DuPont Hospitality, apologized for the misunderstanding and said the homeless people now have been invited to stay there this weekend without charge.
The Christmas night plan began with Newark-area residents Deb Bennett and her husband Matthew Scott Senge, who are co-founders of the gospel-focused Road to Redemption Ministries in Wilmington.
They wanted to do something special for Christmas for one particular group of homeless people in Wilmington, Bennett.
"I used to be one of them," she said, adding she lived with them under a city bridge for quite awhile after her house burned down in 2012. Initially, she thought of booking them rooms at the Fairview Inn on South Market Street just south of the city. But her husband suggested they splurge on the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, where he explained their plan and reserved a room at the nightly rate of $639.
The couple then visited the homeless people including a family member of Bennett's and told them about the hotel room, she said.
"They were blown away," she said. "One woman, she cried."
But as the couple began to assemble gift baskets and food for the intended guests, a Hotel du Pont representative called Senge three hours before check-in and canceled the reservation.
The benefactors who say the Hotel du Pont should be ashamed say the man said, "What if one of these people rapes or robs one of our guests?"
They were shocked, Bennett said, adding she pressed the caller to explain just what he meant by "those people," but he had no answer.
"People who have their nice cars and 8-to-5 jobs and houses to go home to, they don't understand," Bennett said. "They don't realize that, at any given moment, they could become one of 'those people.' I know, because I did."
Du Pont representative Brendan McEvoy told The News Journal the reservation was declined under standard hospitality operating practice of requiring photo identification at check-in. He said Senge had told management, when making the reservation, that the homeless people they intended to house at the hotel did not have IDs.
McEvoy said he doesn't know if the hotel representative said what Senge and Bennett claim he did, but said the lack of IDs was conveyed to them as the reason for the refusal.
"Our primary concern is for the safety of all of our guests," he said.
If they do have ID as Senge said Thursday they do "they would be welcome," McEvoy said.
Meanwhile, what McEvoy said was "a misunderstanding," prompted a strong reaction at the Hilton Wilmington Christiana off Churchmans Road near Stanton.
General Manager Brad A. Wenger was distressed to learn about the Hotel du Pont's refusal, calling it "a very disturbing scar on the hospitality community."
He decided to offer 10 rooms at the hotel Thursday night for homeless people free.
Wenger was in contact Thursday afternoon with Code Purple shelter coordinators to make the arrangements, including an offer to pick up the guests with a hotel van.
Bennett called his offer "beautiful."
Beautiful historic hotel with great amenities and professional staff!
Beautiful room, spacious, and very well appointed. Loved the fancy chocolates and the separate dressing area. The Grand Gala itself was spectacular, over the top, great fun.
Great old hotel. Well kept, excellent service and wonderful food. Recommend staying here if visiting Wilmington.
We had dinner in the green room for my boyfriend's birthday. Everything was wonderful and the staff was accommodating.
Excellent service. We've got a little and they brought up a fridge and crib for us right away.
I would never stay at this hotel, after the management cancelled the reservations of a homeless family on Christmas day.
First the pros- very fancy hotel if that's what you're looking for. Traditional in every way and looks to be keeping up that image.
Unfortunately our hallway smelled unbearably of cleaning chemicals (harsh ones) and old/moldy water. We could smell it in our room as well. It feels like no carpet or furniture has been replaced for decades and that's a bit scary in this day and age when we know how dangerous chemicals and molds can be.
The breakfast was very mediocre. Stale pastries and packaged jams. It wouldn't take much to improve that at a minimum.
The front driveway is a one way vehicle trap. If someone in front of you won't move, you are at their mercy.
Giving them 4 stars for their service attempts, but it needs an update or cleaning with some more natural cleaning supplies :-/.
Amazing staff & wonderful bar. I travel with a lot of heavy camera equipment and the staff were great at transporting my gear to and from my car upon check in and check out! Would definitely come back and stay again.
Beautiful hotel, very conveniently located. Overnight parking available for a fee.
Spent three nights
What a beautiful hotel .
Spacious rooms clean great staff
Food a bit pricey the breakfast was good but close to 70.00 for 3 ( 3 ladies)
Dinner for 3 well we had a few bottles of good wine and a bottle of champagne soooo we expected our tab to be high and it was but a delicious dinner and great wine so it was worth every penny .
Fancy place but a little expensive compared to other places that are as a nice
My air didn't work the best in my room also which seemed to be a problem
For a few guest
Overall nice hotel spacious clean rooms ,great food and a friendly helpful staff
But a bit pricey$$$$
The Green Room in the Hotel DuPont is the best location for a business lunch I have found in Baltimore. I have visited more than a dozen times and have always found the food, the service, and the environment to be excellent.
Worst place ever. Went to wedding, banquet room was so hot that the table cloth was soaked with condensation. Waitress wanted to argue with guest at my table over which meal choice he had made on his rsvp. Groom told me he had a bug in his bed. Cocktail hour was worst food I ever had at a wedding. Then came the event that prompted my review. The last straw. Went back for Sunday brunch. Pulled up to valet to make sure they took debit cards for payment. Was told yes. So I agreed to pay the $14. After brunch went to pay and was told that credit card system was down. I asked front desk to validate and received a firm" no" Was told in a snotty tone "everyone else paid cash".I explained that I had confirmed the ability to pay with card before opting for valet. This all fell on deaf ears and I had to go to my older brother and borrow money. This left a worse taste then the awful food they served. Been to a lot of weddings if this place isn't a great bargain you can do better.
One of the grand old hotels, nice rooms, great staff
Gorgeous hotel and kind staff! Room was very spacious and had all the amenities
Truly elegant. While aged, this building has a very well preserved dignity.
Really beautiful hotel. The rooms had amazing preserved features that really impressed us. I will say that we ran into one snag when we noticed our bathroom was not properly cleaned upon our check-in to the room. That was very disappointing. The staff took a great deal of time summoning someone to clean what was left behind. Apology for any sensitive stomachs
Nostalgic and great place connecting to history of the company!!
Excellent hotel. Great service. Beautifully decorated. A bit expensive at mid week rates but a great value at the much lower weekend rates.
Restaurant is excellent as well. One of the best NY strip steaks I have ever had. Highly recommend.
Great service, clean and spacious rooms, well decorated but could use a bit more light
Great location. Beautiful bar and lobby. Huge, but dated rooms.
Nov 13, 2015. We are very pleased with Hotel duPont Manager Stefanie. Stefanie was very proactive in locating a missing gift package making it an enjoyable day. Would like to thank Stefanie for her understanding the situation and her dedicated effort. Thanks
Im currently staying at Hotel du Pont for a business trip. It is a beautiful hotel and the staff are great. Valet parking is very convenient and was not much more than the parking garage around the block. I loved that they had security at the entrances.
I was here to drop off a friend and have a drink. I'm not sure what compels hotels to do this but there was a extended argument about the hotel requiring that my friend accept all charges for the room despite the room being paid by a third party (work). After that weird conversation we went to the bar, where we dealt with a very weird bartender who had to ask for our order 3 times. Overall just...mediocre and awkward. My drink wasn't correct but it was still ok
Love staying here when I m in town wonderful building and staff
Classic and classy is the best description for the hotel DuPont located in downtown Wilmington Delaware.
Grand elegance coupled with world class service results in the best customer experience in the city.
Amazing historical building, staff was outstanding! Would stay again in a heartbeat.
When you step through the doors of Hotel Dupont it is as if you stepped in to the Great Gatsby Era ! The charm and decor are so wonderfully receptive and warm ! The elevators are so traditional and the hallways to the rooms are so wide ! You never see this in the modern hotels of today . The rooms are so big, the beds beyond comfortable and the bathroom is exquisite !!
Expensive but a beautiful historic hotel with excellent service and staff.
Wonderful hotel the crab omelette in the Green room is excellent
On Christmas Eve they turned away 6 United States veterans whose rooms had been paid for in advance when they found out the vets were normally homeless. Do not stay in this pit.
Food was wonderful the rooms were so comfortable very clean
I have never had such a magnificent experience. Reception was wonderful as was dinner last evening. Luckily our wait person, Dalton king of the dining room completed our evening. Dalton, you are the best !! Tell your supervisors how lucky they are to have you !!
Had our wedding here. They bent over backwards for us for an obviously stressful situation. The guests had an amazing time, the gold ballroom is amazing, and the food was delicious. I may be biased, but yeah, I'd have my second wedding here. JUST KIDDING WIFE IF YOU'RE READING THIS
Great rooms, nice bathroom, staff are friendly breakfast was good but expensive, free wifi, unfortunately no coffee pots in rooms. Lots of restaurants close by, did not need my car all weekend. I like the fancy historic style of the interiors.
Beautiful historic hotel. Hotel rooms are very large. Wedding ceremony and ballroom parts of the hotel are also very pretty.
Truly upscale. Vintage Hotel with old school charm in a modern setting.
Only went there for lunch at the Grill. The brisket is quite good.
First time there for an event, great place beautiful fixtures staff was kind and gracious.
Love staying here. Rooms with the living room are key
Great looking hotel, cheaper parking nearby (Only $10 for two days vs. their $35 a day parking) and very nice and clean overall. Didn't receive room service although we had the sign on the door asking for it but it wasn't a big deal, only stayed two nights. Overall very nice place and would totally stay again!
I called the hotel directly three times to make a reservation for a wedding that we will be attending in May at the hotel. The operator answered and transferred me to reservations. I talked with someone on the phone in reservations but then I was hung up on midway through the conversation. I called back and the operator picked up the line and transferred me again. There was no answer so the call went back to the operator who stated that no one was picking up- then she hung up on me! I called back and she transferred me again. No answer again so it went back to the operator. I asked her not to hang up on me and to please page the person in reservations or allow me to leave a voicemail. She hung up on me again! What a complete and ridiculous failure in customer service! I will find another hotel to stay at for the wedding.
Excellent accommodations & service. Dining was a pleasure. Room was spacious.
Interesting old hotel. Beautiful ball rooms and lobby. The hotel rooms could use a little update with lighting and color palette. Overall a different and worthwhile stay but more for special occasions.
The hotel and detail of the interior was phenomenal. Looking at the ceiling took me back to Lauduree Paris. Service wad good, but not great. That's the only reason they didn't get 5 stars from me. I would, however, highly recommend this if asked about a gorgeous venue in the area.
It's very beautiful inside and I was looking for a job for bartending. The very nice lady desk took my name and number so the manager hiring for bartender can call me.
This is a nice place. The rooms are very stately. They have tall ceilings and old time charm. I loved the decor.
Supreme! Gorgeous! Staff ALL excellent, as well as the food. Outstanding!
It is a little old decor and the neighborhood is pretty rough. The staff is awesome and I had no real problems while there. Valet parking is definitely the way to go.
Rooms were spacious and luxurious. Free WiFi was good enough. The fitness center was also lavish yet a bit dated. Parking is tough nearby and valet parking is expensive. The Green Room restaurant is top notch yet pricey. Very good service from staff through the stay
Excellent service and attention to detail. The atmosphere may be a bit too "classic" for some, and certain parts of the hotel are starting to show its age, but it remains a truly beautiful property.
Beautiful and staff was friendly and helpful. Food was outstanding.
I went to see A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder. Venue was excellent, seats had a nice view!
Went to tour the facility for my upcoming wedding. The building is gorgeous and the staff members are pleasant. We spoke with an incredibly nice woman named Susan who answered all of our questions and was very transparent with the potential costs of the event.
This hotel was truly five stars above the plaza in New York City
The most amazing hotel I ever stayed at. Every person was polite and went out of the way to help.
Everything was nice
Food was deliciouso!
It is not what is on the outside but what is on the inside that matters, and this is what the Hotel DuPont exudes. Although unnassuming from the outside, the moment you are greeted at the door you begin to realize why this hotel is so special. From the service to the decor to the sheer history that is literally etched into the walls, the Hotel DuPont bleeds elegance. I have attended a variety of events over the years and the experience has always been the same...excellent!
Great hotel with a lot of history. A little pricey and no points system but great food and customer service.
Very nice people working there and gorgeous design.
Great place for an overnight stay, dinner, drinks, a show. What ever the occasion, The Hotel DuPont never disappoints.
The Hotel du Pont is an imposing edifice at the top of the hill in Wilmington's old city. The bar, however, was accessible and warm. Our bartender, Kena, was charming and did her best to keep us satisfied and entertained during our visit on a snowy day. Will definitely return the next time we are in town.
This is a beautiful hotel! But for the $$$ I was disappointed with the service we received. They appeared to be under staffed and some of the staff appeared to be new or poorly trained. We had our car damaged by a run away luggage cart and the security officer didn't seem to know what he was doing. The restaurant waiter appeared to be new and took a very long time to take our order and a very long time to bring us our food. On our last day the AC stopped working in our room. Another person in our group had money taken from their room. I will not stay at this hotel in the future.
This hotel is amazing. The building and rooms are beautiful. We had a wonderful dinner that was definitely 5 star rated. We will be back as we considered this "the favorite stay" of our honeymoon tour.
