110 per person for a fire on the beach. Plus smores...extra. Cold showers. And then parking on top of that. Probably the most overrated "5 star hotel" I have ever stayed at. Property is very nice I would visit the property again I would just stay across the road!

2-star hotel for 5-star prices = 1-star review. I still have two more nights here.

I somewhat knew what to expect coming to such an old hotel. Small rooms, worn carpets, and creaky floors are par for the course. However, for 5-star prices, I would still expect the general infrastructure of the hotel to be functioning properly. When we arrived, there was a pipe in the ceiling over our shower and tub that was dripping into the tub. It seemed as though maintenance fixed the issue fairly quickly, but it appears that the drip has now just moved to the sink.

They have a text for requests phone number. We had our two small children here, so I asked for two extra pillows and blankets for them. When we got back from dinner, the pillows had arrived but the blankets took an extra call and 40 minutes to get here.

I've been noticing ants throughout the bathroom. Not a huge line, but scattered around. Probably twenty or more. Enough to be concerned about leaving any snacks uncovered.

Tonight I opened the mini-fridge and somehow it has frozen my daughter's milk. There doesn't appear to be any way to adjust the temperature on it. Annoying, but whatever. So I thought I would warm it up under hot water in the sink. 30 minutes later and the water is still not fully drained from the sink.

Service is quite good and the beach is amazing, but the best parts of this resort are open to the public, and with so many fine hotels around San Diego (especially in the gaslamp), stay somewhere else and come here for the day. You can get suites at nicer hotels for less than half the price of a standard room here. This may have been one of the finest hotels in the country when it was built, and maybe even 40 years ago, but now it's just an old hotel in a great location in dire need of renovations.

Edit to review after completing my stay and reading the owner's response:
The remaining two nights of my stay after my review were consistent with the first, however I did have one bad customer service experience, and they mistakenly billed us for three days of valet parking when we self-parked every day.

Bad customer service experience was at the front desk. I had locked myself out of my room (I neglected to mention they only gave us one functioning room key). There was a long line of people waiting to check-in, but only one of three receptionists was actually helping anyone. I walked over to one of the women and asked if she could make me another key, thinking it would be a quick task and since she wasn't helping anyone else. She said, "Uh, we have a line, and the concierge can help you with that," pointing to the concierge. This, in my opinion, was quite rude. There are two other ways she could have handled this situation: she could have said, "oh the concierge can help you with that", or "yes sir, please wait in line and we'll attend to you as soon as we can".

The general manager has responded that the Hotel Del Coronado strives to provide luxurious accommodations and a tranquil atmosphere, but I find that hard to believe. The atmosphere is far from tranquil, since every part of the hotel is open to the general public. The valet and lobby area are complete chaos during the day, along with the back patio and beach. Accommodations are far from luxurious, since the hotel is in dire need of renovations. I understand that renovations on such an old hotel is probably a regulatory and logistical nightmare, but since this hotel is practically printing money every day, they can and should jump through the necessary hoops to completely renovate entire sections at a time. It is a shame to see such an historic icon fall to pieces like this place is. The manager said he hopes we will stay again, but we will not. Again, this hotel is best enjoyed on a day trip, leaving to stay at a nicer hotel in the evening.

The service is first rate and the charm and ambiance can't be beat. You must go to Sheerwater for at least one meal, it is truly fantastic. However, the resort is not without faults. It is 100 years old and shows it's age. They are undergoing a major 3 year renovation that will help, but the rooms in the Victorian tower will still be small, the bathrooms tiny, and the walls and ceiling not the least bit sound proof. Spend the extra money for a balcony, but I wouldn't spend extra on the partial ocean view. The balconies overlooking the courtyard are comfortable and quiet. Ask for an upper floor or you will have no privacy at all. It's a bucket list destination and worth a weekend's stay, but it's not a modern property, so set your expectations accordingly. It is charming, and will bring you back to another time, but you'll pay to dollar for the trip

Had lots of fun, rooms are nice but pricey. Didn't seem as decorated as in the past. Upside-down tree was different, missed the unique tree ornaments from the past that they would sell when the tree was taken down.

We're locals and come to this hotel a few times per year for their restaurants and shops. We decided to finally stay overnight and regret it. The room was dated, musty and generally not clean. After standing 30 min inline, we got an "upgraded" room which was next to a loud building air-conditioning system. So, another 30 min inline to get back our original crappy room. I guess I'm not surprised, just disappointed. They also couldn't care less we were Hilton Diamond members.

Beautiful hotel and resort!! The shops are all extremely expensive and cater to a specific group of people except the sweets shop. There seems to be a definite attitude of stuffiness from the guests and staff there as well. But the view of the ocean is second to none, the beach is immaculate and the sand is soft, and all together it is one of the most beautiful places in California!

This high-end, historic hotel couldn't have a better location - beachfront property within walking distance of a wonderful downtown with terrific dining and shopping options. San Diego's Gaslamp and Old Town, and Petco Park, are a quick drive across the bridge. The hotel itself is beautiful, and boasts great restaurants, a terrific pool, and many shops. Prices are high. Our visit was marred by a shower that didn't work well, a tub that didn't drain, and spotty maid service, which was surprising given the price point. We'd certainly stay at the Del again, though.

Old building so let's face it, most Holiday Inns are better appointed. On the other hand, the views are spectacular and the service is pretty amazing. Not exactly the best lodging value in SD, but worth a night or two for the experience.

One tidbit nobody seems to mention - Hotel Coronado is next to a very active air base. You'd better love helicopters as they come by every 120 seconds or so.

Hotel del Coronado has always been a nice place to visit. Today, it was the shops I was interested in. I visited Spreckles Candy Shop. It was a very nice experience as they stock harder-to -find candies. Picked up a bag of chocolate covered cherries. They were great. Service was friendly. I would come back.

My room was pretty good, and the ocean view was awesome, loved the aromatherapy shower products. The buildings are clearly showing their age, the main pool is only 4.5 feet deep and the adult pool is closed during the winter. I would not recommend the breakfast buffet, the food was mediocre and the service was too. There are better spots within walking distance of the hotel. The self parking lot is kind of annoying to get out of.

I booked an ocean front room in their newer ocean tower building. I arrived on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. We saw the room and it literally had a huge construction site in front of my balcony. Also, the carpet was so old it had lint lifting up from it and the furniture was so very old and outdated! I could not bring myself to stay their for $1,000 per night, for that type of accommodation. The front desk had told me at time of booking, there would be construction near our building, but didn t say it would literally be in FRONT of our balcony! Moreover, the water in the pool was so cloudy I would not have felt comfortable with my kids going into the pool. This hotel does not look like it s pictures online, not the rooms, and not the pool.

Room was very nice and there is no beating the elegance of this historical hotel. However our experience was a little tainted by the fact that our family of 5 arrived at 2:30pm and had to wait until after 7pm for our room to be ready. They did comp us dinner so they did try to make amends.

The hotel was under renovations so very disappointing ( when we booked o mention of this on the website ) and confusing to get around. Stayed in the Ocean Towers the room was big but needs to be refreshed which appears will happen next year. Hotel is priced at luxury prices but note you are paying for location not upscale resort like a JW or Ritz. Staff were friendly the location is great hope to get back when everything is complete.

Probably the worst hotel I've ever been to. Waited over 1.5 hours to check into our rooms and when we asked about it, they compared the wait to waiting for a ride at Disneyland?? Waited half an hour in line to be told our room wasn't done yet. Paid $100 for 2 cups of basic coffee in the hotel room. Concierge was never on the phone. Spent +$1300 on 2 nights. With all these good reviews, it's a disappointment and I think we deserve our money back or a smaller cost of what we paid.

Delicioussnessss! Deffinately a special event kind of dinner. We had a beautiful sunset while eating our dinner, and attentive wait staff offering shawls for the slight evening chill keep me very happy and cozy. We had a wonderful evening in the care of our server Paul. The general manager was being attentive and came by to give his greetings to all the guests. I will definitely be back again if there is another special event dinner need.

The good stuff- great beach, great views, staff was nice - the bad stuff- incredibly overpriced, small rooms (we reserved an ocean facing suite, we fell for the ol wide angle lens trick) it was 1100 per night for a cramped weird space, staff was nice but service was quite slow, check in took forever, check out took forever, EVERYTHING took forever, maybe because they had a lot of guests but you would think after being opened for over 100 years they would have figured out how to staff. Food was mediocre, not great, couple that with the requisite overpriced offerings, it probably made the food worse than it really was ... Wifi was horrible, I guess you get a pass when you say your none existent wifi is free. Seriously, this was an instance where I would have paid for premium service. There's a party outside your window every night until 10ish if you stay on the beach side and due to its close proximity to the naval base helipcopters and jet fighters fly past all day. Do if you're coming for peace and quiet forget about that. I really was excited about staying in this historic hotel, I had done a lot of reading about it... But this place was disappointing, I think I saw that it had 4 stars?? I've worked in hospitality, a upscale hotel to be exact, this is not a 4 Star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. I do not recommend, go somewhere else.

Very decent beach. It's Memorial day but it's not overcrowded like other beaches. A lot of sightseeing on the beach. Parking was very hard to find on the streets though. Overall it was a great tour

At arrival, three bell guys standing around ignored my ten year old daughter and I as we unloaded and rolled our luggage to the check in lobby. At check in, there were twenty people lined up in two rows and three staff. After twenty minutes of waiting, two more staff stepped up to the counter to help out. I am a Hilton honors member which meant nothing in this situation. After thirty minutes of waiting, we finally checked in. I was given an unmarked map and two keys. If I hadn t been to this property before, I would have been very lost!

The Ocean front room 6630 is a decent size, bathroom is tight and tub small, balcony is small, furniture is tired and ready for consignment, carpet has a grimy feel so wear your flip flops, beds are sagged out, BUT the ocean view is fantastic! Just don t look directly down as there is an earth moving project in progress. The engines were running near midnight last night and I had to close the sliding glass doors.

The room service staff and beach service staff were great! The room properly cleaned. The hotel food reminds me of Sysco supplied boxed and packaged foods, lacks that local, fresh taste. Two nights room totaling nearly $2,000. Felt like a motel with a fantastic view. Did it for my daughter who wanted to be at the beach. I grew up in this town and chose this location since it was most convenient to visiting family.

The hotel surcharges for chairs and an umbrella. We paid $75 for the day and $30 for a fruit plate on the beach.
