Stayed here during construction of their convention center. I've stayed here in the past and have always enjoyed it but would recommend staying away during the construction. Definitely got my steps in having to walk from the vehicle drop-off point all the way through the hotel to the registration and then all the way back to the beach and then all the way down to the tower where my hotel room was. Entire walk took almost 20 minutes. Hotel was nice, clean, staff was very accommodating, and I will stay there again. But, I'm going to wait until the construction is finished.

At the pool. I had a BBQ sandwich. Not good at all. It was cold and disappointing. I'm not a official food critic but if I was, it wouldn't be such a nice review. Everything else was good. Great service, nice pool/beach, all was amazing. Just had to get it out there that the sandwich wasn't good.

The room I got had dirty windows, a window in the bathroom could not be closed, door of the bathroom got stuck (closed) and heating problems. While all problems except cleaning of the windows were solved, it is totally unacceptable for a hotel presented (and priced!) as 5 star to have these problems. The management should definitely be more pro active.

Terrible! Booked a JR suite in the cottages For our anniversary. Went to check in at 3:00 pm, room still wasn t ready. Health hazard! Despite informing front desk twice that I found a bloody kleenex on the floor of our tower room and cleaned it myself, blood around the toilet!! stains on pillow and hair in the bathroom they did nothing! As a medical professional if you care about germs, safety and hygiene.. I do not recommend this place. I have never stayed at a hotel this filthy, let alone one that had blood around the toilet. Even though I requested they send someone twice to come and clean it to make things right.. they did absolutely nothing.

Just wow! Every summer we have our family vacation...
Just wow! Every summer we have our family vacation at Disneyland, but with it being closed we decided on staying at the Del for the first time. We were not disappointed!
At check in, Daniella kindly helped us find two rooms as close together as possible since we had our kids that will be staying in one of them. She found us rooms just across the hall from eachother, which worked for us. The rooms were beautiful and clean. They both had views of the roof but that didn't bother us. The view right outside of mine and my husbands room window had construction and construction workers busy working every day due to renovations taking place on the Del, but he and I just ignored it and focused on all of the positive, beautiful features that the Del has to offer.
The beach at the Del is just amazing! Actually, the whole surrounding area around the Del is amazing. There are many nearby shops and restaurants that are within walking distance, and we never felt unsafe. The streets and sidewalks are kept clean and updated. Everyone is so kind! Not just at the Del but at all of the shops too. We walked a couple of blocks and rented some bikes from Wheel Fun rentals, and had an enjoyable bike ride around the island.
A couple of the mornings during our stay, we ate breakfast at Serea restaurant at the Del. It was absolutely delicious! Every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The portions were perfect, not too much but not too little. We're all still talking about our mouth watering breakfast at Serea. The first morning our server was Anthony, the second morning was Cathy. Each one was equally kind, friendly, helpful and attentive.
For dinner one evening, we got dinner down by the beach at the hotels Taco Shack and some burgers and fries at the Food Truck. The server at the Food Truck, Hunter, was kind and patient to help my kids figure out what kind of burgers they would like best. The food was wonderful! We had such an enjoyable family dinner on the deck by the beach.
One of the days during our stay, I took the kids to the beautiful new pool. While the kids swam, a pool attendant was walking around getting any drink and food orders. I myself didn't order any thing but she would come back to me a few times to ask again, just in case I changed my mind. She was so pleasant and carried a constant smile.
What I thought was so suprising was Patrick, who is the guest services manager, he remembered who we were everytime we would walk past him. He would give us a friendly, "Hi Brown family!" I thought it was so thoughtful and heart warming for someone who works there to take such pride in his job to remember his guests names.
There is not one negative word that my kids had to say about this beautiful hotel, other than our stay wasn't long enough!
Before our stay, we figured that this would be just a one time visit. However as we drove away leaving the Del after our stay, we immediately starting discussing when to come back. Everyone here is so kind and accommodating and genuinely caring. Thank you Hotel Del Coronado for making this the most enjoyable and memorable family vacation we've had yet.

There was a loud band, that was playing past 11:00pm on a Tuesday night, then at 3:30am a hotel alarm went off, and then again at 6:30am. Did not get much sleep. Any business can run into problems every now and then, but when I told the front desk, they did not care at all. Also I paid $190 for a room upgrade with an ocean view, and there was construction all day right outside my room. It would have been nice to know about the construction before I paid the $190, and I would have taken a pass. Just an FYI, the location of this hotel is very close to the Naval base, so there are helicopters and jets flying by constantly, and very close, all day. I love a good airshow, but it never stops.

The best part about this hotel is its beautiful beach location. The rooms are decent, nothing too spectacular. The " partial ocean view" room that was supposedly a premium, did not impress at all. I was on the ground-level and I did not have a view of the water at all. All I could see was the tall shrubbery surrounding my patio and the people passing by on the sidewalks, which also didn't feel very private. I felt that the food was mediocre at best and extremely overpriced...I mean $40 for a breakfast buffet is pretty steep, and the only other option on the property is an equally overpriced grab & go cafe with slim inventory. I also had one $45+ phone call charge on my folio from a call placed at a time that I wasn't even in my room. Additionally, there was an $80+ charge to my credit card, NOT listed on my folio that the hotel has yet to be able to produce a receipt for, or credit back to my card. Mind you that this charge was also applied AFTER I had already checked out of the hotel. I'm still awaiting an explanation/proof, etc... one week later I have yet to receive a return call from the hotel. My advice to you would be to visit the beach, skip the hotel. If you do decide to stay, definitely check your folio for accuracy.

Always fun to visit Hotel Del Coronado. Beautiful island to explore, rent a bike and wonder around. Word of warning, it is a tourist destination so it is always busy, and dining, while many options are always available, is more expensive. If you're visiting San Diego from out of town Coronado Island is a must visit.

I had total knee replacement 4 months ago and having to walk. clear around the Hotel to get out to the beach is wuite the journey only to find out that the fireside deck and pool are gone! Never when we made thes reservations were we told half of the amenities were torn up, under construction and not accessible. We were told when we got there that there were suite upgraded available for $150 a night more but we opted for the king ocean view instead. When we went to go down to the bar area and out to the water to sit up on the deck we were told we had to go clear around the hotel the main entrance is now located for now on the other side of the hotel so we had to go down the stairs walk clear around the hotel only to discover there is no deck, there is no pool, there is no bar period we went back in to tell them that we should ve been told this as I just had knee replacement and I m handicapped at this time. Hotel Del is a grand hotel, it has a cape cod style that is unique to San Diego or even the west coast. It has been an institution in San Diego for decades, and it's age does show. The hotel s ballrooms are showing their age as do many parts of the interior. Food is above average both catering as well as restaurant. Overall it is a nice place slightly overpriced, but makes up for it by having amazing beaches directly adjacent to the property, sunset views are amazing. If u are looking for class, historical, dowdy this is ur spot.

Arrived with visitors from out of town that were attending a conference. The environment has a beautiful contrast when walking through. As you pass through the dark almost shiplike lobby you walk out into a bright white walled exterior that gives you a sense of awe. The island itself is beautiful to walk around, really no need for a vehicle, rather you can rent a beach cruiser or just stroll. The ocean is a given, no need to talk about that. It's a beautiful environment with a wonderful staff. My advice is if you want to travel to San Diego during your stay, take the long stroll to the ferry and take that across.

Came here 30 years ago and loved it! The hotel has a great history and location. However, times have changed.
Check in is published as 4pm. This seems standard so we arrived at 3:45. I agreed to $49.50 per night valet parking which is not the ideal way to be greeted but hey, it is a pricey place...
But then we waited in line until 4:15 to check in but then learned our room was not ready. So we waited until 445pm to get out room key since our room was not ready. The person helping me check in actually left for 20 minutes to go check if the room was actually being cleaned. I waited as others in line behind me wondered why I was taking so long to check in but all I could do was stand there...
Well I have small kids and they cannot go into the pool without a room key as the pool is for registered guests only. After a long drive we are in a lobby that seems to be lacking AC. I was told I could go buy drinks in the bar while I waited. This was a great opportunity to offer a free drink or some kind of a dinner comp card, but it came across like an up sell I mean hey, since you can t go to your room or use the pool that you already paid for, maybe we can interest you in buying some overpriced beverages?
When we get to our room, we realize our luggage is delayed as they are backed up so we wait until 530 for that. Anyhow, we wind up late for dinner with the family and the whole conversation centers around the lack of coordination for getting checked in. I want to say the stay improved on night 2, but it didn t. We are not getting towels or soaps replaced and bottled water is $5 for a tiny Evian. I want to give this place more stars, but I just cannot do so honestly. I am sure it usually goes better and we happened to come during the summer peak season, but unfortunately this will be my last visit to the Del. It is kind of sad to write this since I used to love the $100 brunch buffet in the crown room but not going to give that a go this last time around.
The other odd thing is that when I call the concierge, I go to voicemail. I mean I am at the hotel just requesting some towels get replaced and I can t even get a person on the phone? Anyhow, I am a pretty positive and go with the flow kind of a guy, but this stay makes me wonder if old and historical is another way of saying broken down.
The people who work here seem really nice but maybe they just need to hire some more help?

As great as the hotel looks, the service from the staff wasn't the best. Loved the people that would do room service. I called tge front desk 8 times and no answer. I went down to the concierge and all she said was "Well I've been busy you know!" With a bit of an attitude. For such an expensive and iconic hotel, they should spend.more time swlecting their staff since it can ruin thw reputation. Out of the 4 guys staying in the room, 3 of us had problrms with hot water and this is what I was trying to resolve since it was already cold outside. The hotel is more name than and l9cation than it's customer service. Miggt want to check cheaper options with a better servive.
MOMS with little kids be aware of this place. Dre...
MOMS with little kids be aware of this place. Dreadful and compounded by a staff specifically trained to deceive the guest. Sounds harsh but let me explain. I travel all around for business. This is not a 4 star or higher facility!! It is a mid 3 star. It loses 2 stars from there because the front desk staff, although pseudo nice are trained to place you into inferior rooms and compound that when guests complain. I am pretty familiar with this facility since my company rented out almost the entire hotel for a convention. So we booked a three night stay. We get to the hotel and they put us in a room overlooking the parking lot, even though rooms over the pool and beach were available. (A fact checked by me on site by doing research with other staff members and on web, obviously we asked if other rooms were available. They offered us a rooms next to the construction taking place which starts with backhoes at 7:00 am. It gets worse. There are 4 check in lines. So it is not just me. I sat there and watched existing guests in similar situations either complain about the construction noise or their rooms. So not just us. I was so dumbfounded by a 4 star I decided to sit and watch more. A young couple with 2 young children-like 1 and 3 came up. She asked for the quietest room because kids need to sleep. She didn t care about views. She was on the end of 4 check-in stations. He puts her over the construction , walks down the row and says to another worker she will find that quiet another guest in station 3 who was trying to get his room changed because he was over the construction spoke up immediately thank god. So I sat there, started going on booking websites to find there are rooms available all over the hotel with ocean views, partial ocean, pool, Victorian rooms.(old part of the hotel) so why were the four of these front desk workers trying to make a bad experience for the guests. I confronted one of them and asked. I was told, just doing what I am being instructed to do. ?? 4-5 star and even 3 star Hilton s across this country don t function like this. They just don t. Stay at other brands of this star rating across the country and it just doesn t happen. Oh I forgot to add, I am a Hilton honors member - decades??So that meant a lot, right?? The experience in other parts of the hotel was similar. So obviously we decided to leave the hotel for diners. As we went to restaurants around town and heard conversations of other guests talking about their check in experience I felt compelled to write this review. It wasn t just 1-2 people at one restaurant. It wasn t just over people over 50 complaining. It was a diverse mix of individuals that were shocked at their experience enough to make it part of their dinner conversations. Until they make a change, I would AVOID this hotel and quite frankly think twice about making Coronado your stop on a California road trip. Being a seasoned traveler shame on me for not doing as much research on a place this highly ranked. Shame on Hilton for running it like a bad motel 6. As I write this and read it over I really feel I am being too nice!! Sad for such a potentially nice spot. Maybe another high end chain will buy it and operate it the way guests spending this per night deserve. OH also , self park, valet could be the most disorganized group I have ever seen. Guy in the booth was so disoriented and didn t have a process in place. Pull up drop your luggage and just pull to the lot. If you do find yourself with a room overlooking the parking lot, please note that the valets will be locking cars all night and you will hear beeping and car alarms all night. This is where the front desk placed another young family with little kids!!! Anyone reading this that has had kids below the age of 6 will know how that night went!! moms if you pick this hotel as a peaceful getaway where kids enjoy the beach and pool while you get much needed down time!!! Ask about your room at check in PLEASE!!!

I would give zero stars, if I could. Wet carpet, mold in second room and we were told "we will check into that" after we reported it, 7 AM construction, security incident and staff flat out lied about what happened in front of the police, no service in room, better Wifi in the middle of the Swiss alps...I could go on and on. Absolute disappointment! I am astounded at the quality or should I say lack of. Positive reviews are mainly guests who have visited property, NOT actually staying at The Del. Book at the Marriott...save your time and money staying here. I could provide more reasons to NOT stay than to stay. I am an avid traveler and thoroughly appalled at the stay here.
**Update, sent an email to GM and received zero response. Still in works with guest services...debacle to say the least.

The hotel Del is definitely a piece of History I would recommend people visiting it there is so much to say and do and so much history with it that it's pretty amazing historical place the rooms are about 5 to $600 a night so if you can't afford that no problem just come and visit it if it's during the summer you can take the free shuttle after the ferry from San Diego I would recommend

They characterize themselves as a dog friendly hotel. Don't believe it. our dog barked a few times in our room and they suggested it be muzzled. Really! Our dog travels with us all the time and has for years, we've stayed at hundreds of other Hilton properties with him and NEVER once have we received the treatment we received at this hotel. Crappy old rooms, exorbitant prices, and a self consumed attitude...that old rickety piece of c_ _ p should be torn down. Worst place I ever stayed!

I love the coronado hotel. The foods was great at the 1500, and we had villas on the beach that weekend and that was beautiful. But be prepared if you park in front valet, or want to pull your car out of valet at night. Either one can be a nightmare and you need to be prepared for this experience. Set aside an extra 15-20 min for valet parking. Take my advice and use the rear valet when coming, which is located in pay parking on the right hand side of the hotel. Otherwise i would give it 5 stars

Historic, grand, old, fabulous landscaping and grounds, and a bit of a maze. That should set your expectations. Rooms are a bit quirky. Be sure to ask for ocean view or courtyard view or you will be looking over the parking lot.
The place is like a little town until itself. The grounds really are amazing. The buildings are well kept but it old. Many food venues and activities to choose from. Golf is very close. I do recommend it, but for someone looking for a modern hotel, this is not it.
