Lovely location but was underwhelmed with the staff at a banquet dinner and luncheon the next day. Service was extremely slow and server forgot various items. Also, parking was so impacted valet couldn't provide relief for self parking parties.

1. Took a while to confirm which room we were staying because the room was picked for manager inspection- they could have done it wayy before we arrived, we have told them exactly what time we would be arriving; 2. Took around an hour for them to send the key and luggage to our executive suite after room was confirmed, so inefficient; 3. Asked for a kettle/ water boiler and they gave us a pot of hot water instead...; 4. Room is old and not even nice for this price; 5. NEVER made our room, never explained what the 'make a green choice' function meant (which means no cleaning needed), came back to the old dirty room after a long day because we thought the 'green choice' function only meant not replacing the sheets etc... For the standard of services for an executive suite, it is really unreasonable and unacceptable.
So we are just checking into this hotel and beware that if you check in at 4pm your room will most likely not be ready, it was 4:20 when we finally got up to the reception desk and we were told we would get a text when it is ready. I understand they need to follow protocols for Covid cleaning but they need to at least inform their guests their check in time won t be 4 (let people know ahead of time so people don t show up and wait around)
Okay you have to appreciate history some to truly love the experience. The place is being renovated and it is due for a refresh but the classic features of the old building helps bring you back in time to an earlier age. Overall the hotel staff were great... We had a less than attentive waiter for breakfast one day but it didn't spoil the day. Long walks up and down the beach or into town were welcome and a quick Uber or Lyft ride gets you to San Diego if you want. This was on our list to do and I am glad we were able to make it happen. We would go again.
Hotel Rooms are better than a cheap beach motel but they aren't luxury. The place is old and you can feel it. That said, the property is awesome. Very expensive. That may just be because of where it is. Food is either too fancy for my taste or it's just not good. I can't tell.
Beautiful architecture, beach and great sense of history. My accommodations exceeded expectations. Take some time to research the history of this luxury hotel prior to visiting to appreciate the awesomeness of this hotel prior to your visit. Around every corner is a piece of history. Hand carved wood, and craftsmanship that has stood the test of time and left a legacy. The presence of the navy planes, ships and training (while some might complain) is a beautiful reminder of our present responsibility to our history and ancestors. Every inch pristine in it's own unique way. The beach is beautiful. The surrounding area is lovely.
Old Victorian hotel built in the 1800s right on the beach in Coronado. Going through a 200 million dollar expansion to become one of the top resorts on the West Coast. Plenty of little shops, restaurants, and activities within to keep you busy all day with the large pool an option always on the hotter days. Right next to the beach is always awesome too!
I visited Hotel del Coronado for two reasons: I had heard and seen it's beauty on travel shows and wanted to witness it myself and I was secretly gaging my wife's reaction with thoughts of getting a room there for our upcoming 25th anniversary.
At first everything was great, it was buzzing with activity, but it's a historic site. We decided to vallet the car for ease and were told that it would cost $20 for 2 hours. Not bad.
However, this is where things begin to go south.
After having lunch at a nearby restaurant, we decided to take a few pictures inside of the Hotel del Coronado. We snapped a few and then rang the elevator with plans to take one or two shots from the mezzanine. The car arrived and the elevator attendant asked if I was a guest. I said no, and explained that I just wanted to see the mezzanine.
Now, he could have politely explained that only guests are allowed above the lobby. Instead he chose to loudly say, "Let me see if you can read this..." before marching around the corner to the well hidden sign that stated the policy and banging on it with his fist.
My wife began to cry and, embarrassed, I ushered her outside. We decided to call it a day and went to get the car... only to find we were going to be changed $80 for parking, not the $40 I expected. The attendant then said if we made a $50 purchase in the hotel shops the price would be lowered to $20. So we went shopping.
While in one of the shops we asked the clerk about the parking fee with a $50 purchase and she said the cost would go down to $5. The truth, however, was the price remained $40, so it cost me an extra $10 for following the attendant's recommendation.
If you can ask three members of the hotel staff a simple question only to get three answers that not only are wrong, but deceptive, I can only imagine what would happen if you book a room.
I plan to complain to management, but imI not holding my breath.
Stayed here for meetings. Overall, a beautiful property and the food was excellent! Two meals were served on the Windsor lawn. The first at night with enough patio heaters to take off the chill. The second was lunch and what a location with a magnificent view of the Pacific ocean and the sound of waves crashing. If you get a chance, check out the Crown room. All wooden room for larger groups-an amazing structure given when it was built. Accommodations were very nice but being a very old hotel, the doorways don't accommodate taller folks by default. I took a direct hit. Heads up!
I have lived in SD my entire life and can remember as kid coming to the HDC and always being excited for the beach day in front of probably the coolest architecture in all of SD. True 5 Star facility. Cool shops in the basement, great hotel to throw a party at, and it has the best Sunday brunch in town(if you re willing to splurge). There is great American history attached to this beautiful hotel.
The service was good, but could be better for such a highly rated hotel. The bartender was just nice. The snack bar helper was just nice. The skating rink was really fun and the helper was even better. Helper offered to take picture without us asking and they are more enthusiastic.
Last year I started a new tradition with my god daughter and her father my best friend and my god daughter's best friend. This year we returned to the world famous Hotel Del Coronado to keep the tradition of outdoor ice skating 20 feet from the beach in southern California alive. For the amount of fun and memories made for the low cost of $35.00 per person it can't be beat. The hotel del Coronado is a class act and not only has great food but so many specialty stores inside including a candy shop that you can smell the goodness from about 300 feet away. If you and your family want some great fun or a wonderful new tradition like we started, next year go to the World famous Hotel Del Coronado and go ice skating outdoors at the beach
I've been to this hotel many times before it was owned by Hilton. It's incredibly beautiful and it will suit any Beach vacation needs. It's a great stay. This past visit was the first time I have visited while it was owned by Hilton. The changes they made we're minimal. They preserved the hotel well but they also added a modern twist. My only complaint is that it is VERY expensive. Overall, I love this hotel and it's definitely worth the trip.
Exceptional customer service but the room was a little sad. Carpet needs stretching, it smelled slighty of smoke (the walls are probably permeated from long ago), you couldn't open the hotel room for all the way because the bed is in the way (I could be in bed and open the door). Also the crew were cleaning the furniture, etc. in the garden and having loud conversations with each other up until midnight. I wanted to stay in the original part of the hotel for its charm but I think I'll opt for the newer tower next time and partake in the amenities in the original part of the hotel.
I just went down to hotel del to check out the Christmas decorations, something I do every year as a local here. I stayed their once and service was great, but things where a bit overpriced, and since coronado is so small traffic is bad. But if you're thinking of visiting San Diego and have the money, definitely stay here.
This is the most amazing place if you like history and seaside beauty! Not only is the hotel itself extremely historical and has been around since the turn of the early 1900's but it absolutely stunningly beautiful. Especially around Christmas time they decorate the entire building lining up all the roofs and turrets and also include an ice skating rink. Anytime of year take a walk all the way down to the beach and enjoy all the beautiful vacation homes and villas that are absolutely adorable and all of them very different. At night you can see Tijuana from the beach and all the flickering night lights of that city! I have never stayed at The Del but you don't need to rent a room to enjoy it's beauty. The air just reeks of history and you call feel it all around you. Not only has the hotel been a functioning hotel for over 100 years but it also was the setting for the movie "Some Like it Hot" with Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Walking inside or outside of the hotel you are bound to see interesting and beautiful atmosphere. Inside they have displays that tell the history of the hotel there are pictures and old dinner menus, lots of shopping and restaurants and of course very unique hotel rooms and accommodations. Outside is beautifully kept gardens and grounds which lead right up to the beautiful beach of Coronado. This is one of the most magical place I have been on all my travels and daily activities around town!
The Hotel is a great place to stay, visit, or even just walk around. There is so much history. The shotsare great, the spais incredible, and the beach isone ofthe best in San Diego.
The Del will always be a sanctuary of fun. But new management has brought a subtle shift in customer service. For instance, we had to wait in line for over 45 minutes just to check in. The staff at the front desk was pleasant but stressed. Also our room bath had a sticky/dirty door. We also noticed less staff at the cottage bistro. And it goes without saying that the venerable Del is Not there place for an upside down Christmas tree. We wondered if the person with the idea for this atrocity was even familiar with the traditions of this establishment. And a final note, that many young people were staying at the hotel, which is wonderful. However, parties until early morning and running and screaming in the hallways are not a formula for adult recreation and rest. We will always come back here. We just hope the new Hilton management can get up to speed.
Beautiful hotel on pristine location. Looking forward to using Hilton points in near future. I stay 330+ nights in hiltons per year and this is the best looking one.... But I have not stayed here yet so cannot comment on the rooms or service.
This hotel is so beautiful. We rode in their still original elevator and got some ice cream from one of their shops. This is a piece of history that should not be missed. They also have wonderful beaches and a great nightlife around here.
Amazing classic California luxury hotel. Beautiful location, architecture is second to none in California. Beach is immaculate Restaurants and bars are top notch. Great for a family getaway or a weekend with your wife or girl. 5 stars for sure
My family has stayed here but I have not. I wanted to stay during Christmas, but it just doesn't seem homy enough. The price for the rooms are GREAT. I have read so much Neg feedback about prices? When I go there time to time and buy the ice cream, the chocolates , such good chocolates, the coffee's, go ice skating, etc. I'm paying for the EXPERIENCE @ one of this counties best hired. I can say this because I've stayed at hotels all over the US. Anyway, thank you for the last few decades.
Amazing hotel with beautiful ocean views, located in the heart of Coronado. Walking distance to shops, restaurants as well as the beach! Big plus during the Christmas holidays there is ice skating right on the beach
Overall it was a nice hotel with great history. One big issue I had was with valet parking. They forgot to turn off my car! When I went to my car 2 hours later to get something, I was shocked to find that my car was still running. Be aware! Especially when your car is Hybrid. Simple sorry was the only response I got from the hotel.
We have been staying here on and off for the past 45 years. They have never disappointed us. It is great to wake up to the surf sound. They food is expensive but well worth it. Especially the Sunday Brunch. What a layout!!! We will be back.
Great place! Certainly a bit expensive but we'll worth it! Beach is awesome! Proximity to downtown San Diego is awesome! Great pools! Great family destination for sure! We were there in July 2017. Loved watching the Navy Seals train on the beach late night! Anytime I go to San Diego this is where I would stay. Hands down!
Didn't stay at the hotel. Just walking around Coronado and visited the shops downstairs and walked around. Built in 1888, it's a historic site and open to the public. It was really busy, can't imagine staying there with so much foot traffic from the public but the beach and area is beautiful to walk around. They have the original letter box in the front lobby which was also cool to see.
The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous upon cursory review but you quickly find that it's very much falling apart. The building itself is very old. We stayed in the Victorian portion of the hotel and were shocked at what we found. The building was so settled that there's more than an 18" difference between one side of the room and the other. Walking down the halls is like being in a fun house, since the floors aren't level, nor the walls, nor the ceiling. I'm actually shocked the place hasn't been condemned.
Let me say the staff was incredible but they can only do so much. The rooms had a peculiar odor, the beds were terrible and everything is under construction.
When you're spending upwards of $500/nt on hotels, it comes with a certain expectation. Our expectations fell quite short of anything we'd have expected with a property of this reputation and history.
Last, I'm a diamond member with Hilton. Some places that may get you somewhere, but not at the Hotel Del. Not one frill or courtesy was extended so if you're a diamond member looking to stay here, stay elsewhere. The Bayfront in the city is much nicer.
If I could give a 4.5 I would (it loses a half star because of our first room). We booked the cheapest room possible, and upon check-in you could definitely tell it was the cheapest room possible. It was clean and the bed was comfortable but it was also small and, well, it just looked really old (because it is). We decided to upgrade our room to the new cabanas for our final two nights and that's when our WOW factor hit overdrive. They were HUGE, comfortable, gorgeous, the whole nine yards. They even moved our luggage for us! WHEN (not if) we book again, we will spend the extra money and stay in the cabanas for the full stay. It's a pricey hotel, you're paying a lot for atmosphere and location, but it is well worth it. The service was tremendous 100% of the time. We were chatting with one of the Bellman, Bobby, on one of his slower nights and he took us to see some of the closed off areas that are closed due to renovation. He spent time telling us about the wonders of the hotel, the stories of the hotel. It was awesome, he was very kind. Another bellman, Burton, was super kind and generous when he moved our luggage to our new room. All of the front desk associates were kind and patient. I never felt stressed or uncomfortable here. There is construction going on but that never bothered us. And the proximity to the beach and all of the things you can do late in the evening at the hotel didn't hurt either. We truly didn't want to leave. We will be back SOON!
The hotel is iconic, and beautiful. Definitely a site worth seeing, however, I see no benefit to staying on site as a guest. The rooms are very, very pricey and honestly, it's crowded, not with guests but visitors. You see, you do not need to be a guest at this hotel to enjoy it's many attractions and amenities and really you won't know about any of the events going on until they're already sold out to people not even staying as a hotel guest.
I went for New year's and was amazed to discover the hotel wasn't hosting any sort of venue for it's guests.
Also, to my utter dismay, during my stay, the pool was closed due to renovation and I only found out when I arrived. Even if you could visit the pool for some reason that defies all reason, they close it around 5pm that includes the bars at the pools and the jacuzzis.
Honestly, stay somewhere else, you can hitch a ride over to Coronado and enjoy all the beautiful sights it hosts for free anyway.
Lastly this place Nicile and dimes the hell out of you, everything and I do mean everything costs and arm and a leg. On my stay I was charged 10 dollars for an ice bucket to be sent up to my room.
I came to look for easter egg hunt, but got lost. In the end we winded up in Hotel del Coronado. It has that antique feel to it. It s dark inside and has an oldish style. It s a great scenery for taking pictures. Also, I didn t know there Coronado was spelled on the beach. I found out when I ping my location at the beach for my girlfriend. Also, follow me on... OMG, this is one of the best places I've ever stayed. There's so much to do on property, and the service is the best. Defenently making it a point to come back.
Stunning. Beautiful building, beach, shopping, eating. It's pricey for sure though. Be sure to check out the sand castle guy right on the beach while you're here, really neat stuff!
Had to wait 15-30 minutes regularly for my car to come from Valet (and its 50 dollars a night) the rooms are OLD and need a revamp, WiFi is worthless and food is so overpriced and not worth it (40 dollars for a hamburger!)
The views are wonderful, that s the only reason for 2 stars.
It's without a doubt the most magical hotel in the San Diego area. But something seems off now that Hilton bought it.
The building itself is unchanged. And the rooms, while sometimes quirky and unusually shaped, are quite comfortable.
The staff is very friendly and the grounds are immacculate. Small-dog friendly as well.
We stayed for Christmas Eve, which is guess is an unusual time for hotels. But there was no hot water in the morning and the wait for room service was well over an hour.
On November 11, 2015 my friends and myself were sitting outside on the pier enjoying refreshments. It was quite windy, and the wind picked up one of the table umbrella's which slammed into the back of my head. Two security people from the hotel ran to me but I was unable to stand. They suggested that I go to an emergency room to be checked out. They brought a wheelchair and helped me to our car. They advised me that the hotel would take care of all expenses incurred. After a visit to Sharp emergency room where I was treated, I was allowed to go. I spent the rest of our stay with a big lump on the back of my head and considerable pain. Since then I have tried to get the hotel to reimburse me for my costs to no avail. I have spoken with the head of security, and have twice sent copies of my report and bill from the emergency room, but still no reimbursement, just excuses. For me, it is not the amount of money, which is minimal, it is the fact that this hotel didn't keep it's word. I will not go there again, this spoiled my whole trip to San Diego!!
What a gorgeous and historic building. The mahagony and brass are works of art. So much to do here from dining to relaxing on the adjoining beach. Parking is a premium here so if on a weekend get there early. Some fee parking on the north end of the hotel.
Pros: Location Cos: 1. Overpriced for its offering. $300+ per night with bad experience to the hotel as listed below. 2. Room decor and facilities are outdated with low ceiling. 3. Room is not cleaned, sofa and carpet are not vacuumed/cleaned for a long time, unfriendly to people allergic to dust. 4. Long waiting time for car valet service, I checked with valet booth 20 minutes after I asked for my car, the staff told me I was only in the queue for four minutes. Unprofessional valet staffs and took almost half an hour to get the car. 5. The resort is overly crowded as the beach opens to all. 6. The hotel staffs are proud of (obsessed with) the hotel's history, while in my opinion, they are not holding up its legacy.
Super Expensive! And one of a kind! JARED KUSHNER picked a great flagship investment. The beach is free and so much better than the Beach by the ferryside, which stinks of dead fish. The parking is $30 per hour, best to rent a bicycle.
Scenic location. I went to dine there but had to bail. $49 for the average entree was too rich for my blood. The location is to die for. Visit for the beach.
