The food and views were incredible... But the staff was not so friendly... They even move is around then took forever to come back and serve us. If it wasn't for the ocean view we would have left

Beautiful property and friendly staff, but beware the shops. I was able to find the same items on Amazon at 50-75% of the price in most cases, except for the clothing.
I have been fortunate enough, and I would say with out a doubt, at the same time blessed. Why? The church I was going to when I was in high school did an end of the year trip. We would take a bus to So. Cal. One of the places we stayed was here at the Hotel Del Coronado. I have no idea how much the hotel would have cost back then to stay overnight. Yes, it's been at least thirty years since I have stayed here. At the same time I know I'm grateful and blessed to have been able to stay here when I did.
We only stopped at the hotel to have lunch at one of the outdoor restaurants. The food was fantastic (albeit a little pricy), the staff were friendly and accommodating, and despite how busy it was, we were still able to get our food in a timely manner. We will definitely be stopping by the hotel again when we're in the area
Underwhelming..... to say the least. Other than the staff, Which was absolutely among the most polite, welcoming and accommodating Ive ever experienced, the property itself has several, several, several flaws that do not appear to have been recognized by ownership. The curb appeal, (from 200 feet away) is every bit as stunning as you might expect. However, upon closer inspection, you will find HEAVILY WEATHERED and/or otherwise ignored exteriors. (Cracks, chips, odors, flaking, and for.) Wait times were much longer than expected for a hotel with a reputation like the Hotel Del. It becomes unreasonable to expect a guest to wait beyond forty minutes simply to Check-in. The dining experience was particularly unimpressive. After being seated on the outdoor patio, my wife and I asked to be seated inside. (As the humidity was uncomfortable to us. We were told by our server, that there is no Air Conditioning inside the restaurant. (Strike One) The Food was brought to us cold. (Strike Two) The steak sandwich was rather bland in taste and the meat itself was very rubbery. (Strike Three). Our server was a genuinely caring person looking to take care of the customer. She made every effort to make sure we were pleased. All this said, we do not recommend this hotel overall. In my opinion, (Dollar for Dollar) You would be better served by staying across San Diego Bay at the Marriott, or Grand Hyatt.
"The Hotel Del" as they call it, was a BEAUTIFUL sight seeing experience. When you get there, follow the signs for the shops and restaurants to see an amazing resort area. Highly recommend for sight seeing in the area.
Ok tourist destination. Staff isn't very friendly given that this destination is primarily focused on customers. Parking isn't great, but one can find vehicle parking close to hotel.
Food is ok, but could improve. Busy beach area usually.
We love going to The Del! The shops are fun and the restaurants are great. The beach is white with gold sand. If you just want to visit and not stay there, park on a side street near the beach and walk over. Otherwise, you'll be paying $60 to park in their parking lot.
Worst over priced tasting gellato that we ever had. Peanut butter rancid, the smores tasted nothing like it. Complained and they gave us vanilla which wasn't much better. Not good at all for a place like this.
Just concluded a stay at the Del. First, the property is gorgeous. Lushly landscaped grounds, beautifully maintained. Beach is killer. Second, the staff are outstanding. Everyone from restaurant servers, valets, beach attendants, etc couldn t be more attentive. Third, rooms. We stayed at Beach Village at the Del in a beachfront Jr Suite with a beachfront patio. Beach Village is a beautiful private oasis in a very large main property. Definitely worth the price for private pools, including adult only pools which we lived, and upgraded included amenities like free beach chairs. Room was large, perfect for a couple with a very large and pretty marble bath. Lovely. Fourth and the only negative: for the price of our suite ($1700/night) we expected nicer furnishings. The rooms are tired. Sofa cushions have no loft. Upholstery permanently stained. Outdoor furniture stained. This was a HUGE turn off. Also there was so much noise from the suite next door through the connecting door that we felt like we were all staying in the same room. Absolutely no sound barriers. We could literally hear everything they said. Another huge turn off. Again, for the cost of the suite and the exclusive nature of Beach Village the room decor and noise were huge disappointments. Last, the restaurants were good, not great, and exceptionally expensive for what was served IMHO. Again, the Del is a beautiful resort. Cannot imagine a more tranquil lovely location in Southern California. It s also very dog friendly. Just think the high end accommodations need updating. (Note: there are a lot of renovations going on right now throughout the main resort including , pools, sun decks, new building) so if you re staying in the main hotel be prepared for noise. Beach Village is at the opposite end of the property and totally insulted from the construction which was wonderful.) I should also commend the Del for the serious COVID policies including mandated mask policies on property. We appreciated it! Would we visit again? Maybe. Our first time at The Del. We re from Phoenix so the 5 hour drive is a breeze. Shutters at the Beach in Santa Monica, which we ve frequented and love, is more exclusive even though it s a longer drive. Plus there s more to do in Santa Monica. Bottom line is we enjoyed The Del!
This place is one the jewels of America. If you have not walked around it on the beautiful Coronado beach and if you have not partaken in its spectacular Sunday brunch, you have not lived. Super strong recommendation.
Beautiful hotel. Beautiful beach for days. Plenty of room for every one to have fun and play. No crowding. Parking had to be from the street as the visitor parking fills up fast, but just a short walk to the hotel and beach from the street.
Wonderful hotel with a view on the ocean, the team is very nice. This hotel have a really good smell and it s really beautiful. You have a pool and some shops under the hotel, also a restaurant and a bar.
Note: I was visiting, and not an overnight guest. I was impressed by the beautiful location with plenty of amenities. Activities for guests seemed plentiful and the staff were present and polite. I definitely consider returning as a guest.
If you are coming here to relax and enjoy the sound of the surf from your balcony and room, don t. Starting at 7:30 am you will be awakened to the sounds of jack hammers and the beeping of heavy equipment. It wasn t even possible to enjoy a meal at the beautiful seaside restaurant. Extremely disappointing. We had no idea when we booked that extensive exterior construction was under way. Andrew did what he could to make up for it but this was out of his control. We only get to visit the ocean every few years and this vacation was ruined. If we had known this is what was going on we would have stayed elsewhere. I wish I could post a recording of the jack hammer as I write this.
Wow. Just... wow. I feel like I could end my review here and it would sufficiently convey my thoughts about this hotel but since I love the sound of my own keyboard clicking away, I'll add a bit more detail.
First and foremost, the location. It's situated right on the beach and if you're fortunate enough to have enough disposable income to get a room with a beach view (I didn't, I was just lucky that my gf's work paid for the room as she was there for a conference) then you're in for a real treat.
The rooms themselves are exactly what you would expect in a hotel with such a great heritage - warm, comfortable with all the comforts of a more modern hotel.
I feel like I could bleat on and on about this place but I will end by saying that this is a fantastic hotel with great amenities and a perfect location. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed stopping at the hotel for dinner and ice cream after a day at the beach. I've seen many people complain about the cost of parking but if you spend ($50 I believe) you can get your parking validated so it's free to park at hotel parking lot. They often have live music on weekends and between 2 people having dinner/ lunch (Pizza, Caesar salad, couple drinks) it's not that hard to spend enough to receive validated parking. The views here are wonderful. The staff are very friendly and laid back.. you can take your time and just relax while you eat and drink. The ice cream parlor is really cute and a great way to end the night. It feels romantic and it's fun to know you're walking/sitting where Marilyn Monroe once was. Great place to visit!! Can't wait to go back
Beautiful!!!! Every part of the hotel was exceptional! Room service, house keeping, front desk staff...and the vibe was sooo peaceful!!! Strongly suggest the history walk of the hauntings there. That bit of history that our guide, Tanya gave all of us had us on the edge....great storyteller! Can't wait till the renovation to be completed in 3 years!!! Enjoy!
We did not stay at the hotel. Because we did visit it will stay in the future. Historic landmark surrounded by lots of shops and eateries. Make this one of your stops at Coronado.
Lordy lunch for two protein bowls and two margaritas was over $100.00. Way over priced. Food was good, margarita was ice, ice, ice, and mix. This is a one and done for me. I would rather go to a local place, this is more tourist friendly
I did not stay in hotel went to beach while on vacation. Great atmosphere and drinks on the beach. It was very lovely. PS. They apparently do weddings, there was a beautiful sand castle dedicated to a recently married couple on the beach.
Iconic and beautiful, the Hotel Del Coronado is a place of historic luxury. Funky Victorian architecture astounds the eye with intricate detail, yet things are nicely modernized where it counts, such as the rooms and the fitness room for instance. Gorgeous beach with free chair and umbrella placement for guests. The staff was beyond helpful and friendly, they were warm and funny as well, especially the attendants in the historic elevator. Concierge is first class and can hook you up with so many ideas, deals, and reservations. Tons of restaurants and shops right across the street, in fact nearly the whole island of Coronado is a tourist playground. We had a blast, and will be aiming to stay here as often as possible.
Leah helped make our stay phenomenal. We cannot thank you enough and I hope someone passes on our sentiments. We are forever grateful. As for the Del itself...the food, the accommodations, the scenery, the mermaids class, spin class, too many highlights to mention. Five star, would return in a heartbeat.
Very poor and unprofessional service by valet parking. Attitude zero out of 10. They care about nothing, showing nasty customer service by arguing and ruling instead of do what they suppose to do. Ouch! What a bad taste we had this morning!
Terrible customer service. Tried to book a room and got bounced around 5 times and nobody knew what they were doing. Asked to talk to a manager, but they were busy and never called back. Very overpriced. Stay elsewhere.
Horrible food! You have to valet! Two simple salads with tea and a fruit plate cost $129! And it was a horrible salad! There's no good variety on the food menus in the room. The bathroom door doesn't shut all the way and there's several floors in the hotel that look like they have water damage or something & the rugs been pulled out. There's construction pounding and the heater makes a rumbling noise that sounds like a motorboat. In one of the most beautiful historic hotels, waiting for your car to come up from valet they're playing stupid rock music instead of beautiful music of the day like when Marilyn Monroe and Frank Baum who wrote The Wizard of Oz in the hotel, walked around. Beautiful dated music that represents the old kind of music! Zero ambiance! This once was a magnificent hotel but somebody better get in there and really restore it back to the class and style that it once was!
Iconic hotel on the Coronado Island. The architecture is delightful. Perfectly clean rooms with great comfort beds. My favorite part is the outside patio facing the Pacific Ocean. There is an outdoor pool but however, no indoor pool.
Beware of renovations check before you go. Restaurants and pools closed. Patio replaced. No direct access to beach except out the front door. The beach is gorgeous.
Room with a View? Come On! This was our CEO (Boss') Room they just gave him today 2/15/2019. I do hope they make it right! Like the old saying goes, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it, well, this also holds true for an "expensive room with a view." If you don't have anything nice to book for your guests, don't send them to this room and horrible view. We understand remodeling, but come on Krista Clayton and Kris Kameoka!
The rooms are small and overpriced. They would be overpriced at half the price. AC is common areas is limited. We had a constant stream of water dripping from the ceiling in our bathroom. It was HVAC condensation but the floor and vanity we're wet and slippery. My wife complained that the room had a musty smell. Beach area is beautiful. And, Andrew the elevator operator is almost as old as the hotel. After the main elevator stops running.
I would say it s the beach nothing more! The room that we took was Victorian king and was just ok. Really not worth the charge.. But the location is awesome if you love beaches. Evening beach stroll is amazing. Just remember you are paying so much for the beach and just the beach. the room service, the front desk and all of it is so commercial and many visitors - so even if you are a diamond member, don t expect a different treatment at all. They will give you 30$ credit for diamond members since they charge 40$ for the breakfast!!! So don t walk in for breakfast and expect it to be deducted just because you are a diamond member! Also, the front desk won t tell you this unless you ask specifically about it..
This place was ridiculous. Almost funny if it weren t so bad. Hotel and construction so no AC, fan, or hot water for a night in the summer. Meeting room was almost 80 degrees. Construction above me at 10pm . Just a very poor experience for a frequent traveler.
The hotel is in a great location and the staff went out of their way to provide great service. The breakfast was excellent and we also enjoyed the stay.
When my family said they wanted to visit this place while we were vacationing in San Diego I was skeptical. But after visiting I realize that it was definitely worth our time to visit.
Absolutely a amazing time! My husband and I stayed 2 night at the Del enjoyed there spa, all the restaurant and shopping. We had a exceptional time. Everyone was so amazing with customer service! Thank you!
This hotel is beautiful and the room is quite nice. However, the food at every restaurant is outrageously priced, and so are the drinks. One mojito and one well gin and tonic just cost me 34 bucks for example. If you stay, come for the views but bring extra money for food!!
This is the first time I've gone and the hotel is beautiful. While it might not be as modern as some new hotels, this has the old school luxury and decor that makes it so nice. I love the woodwork around the hotel and the lights at night make it even nice.
