Service was not as expected at a hotel of this quality. Check-in process was slow. Every time I called Guest Services I was on hold for over 5 to 7 minutes. Housekeeping never left enough shampoo or conditioner.
Our room was particularly loud, we had a view of the back parking lot and early in the morning there's loading and unloading of trucks that makes it noisy.
They have guest parking or valet parking. Beaches in walking distance. You can rent chairs are umbrellas from the hotel, they don't provide any. I've been to resorts in the past where the hotel will provide chairs and umbrellas.
Variety of Pools and Hot Tubs. Lots of opportunities for shopping and eating on premises. You don't actually have to leave the resort.

Hello folks, this is Fasteddy from Ed & Sons with another review. Today I'll share my experience at the Hotel Del Coronado. What a historic and wonderful place to visit and stay. The staff there go out of their way to make you feel at home. The Chefs there are amazing! When you eat at the "Del" you eat cuisine that only the 4 and 5 Star restaurants serve. From the Salmon to Steaks to the Chicken plates, outstanding! I've stayed there 3 times and every single time, it feels like you went back in time. They say it's haunted too! Woooo! Haha. One of the great features there is the beach dining and in the winter, the ice skating on the beach! Yeah, Ice Rink is brought in and you have the Pacific Ocean on one side and Sand and on the other side you have the Hotel and the Ice Rink! Where else have you seen this at? And remember, Presidents have stayed here in the past and actors from the Black and White movie days too. A lot of nostalgia as you walk through the wooden halls and antique art forms of structures will be witnessed by all. Enjoy your stay at the "Del" and have a memory that few ever get to see. This is Fasteddy saying, good food good sites and good memories to you all, until the next review.

Stayed her over the Labor Day weekend. Beautiful setting and hotel even considering the areas that cannot be accessed due to renovations. My main complaint is that being pregnant I was very hopeful of getting some good sleep while on vacation but that was hard to come by. Any sound in the hallways feels like it s in your room in the mornings, maid service knocked on our doors twice before 8:30am until we learned to just put out our do not disturb sign. Lastly there was a fire alarm that went off before 8:00am. I do wish we had been offered some little perk or even been comped a bit, at least for that inconvenience.

We had company in town and it's tradition to take our visitors to the hotel and enjoy one drink and sit out on the deck. This was early February 2016. We all ordered one drink and enjoyed the view. The drinks came, after quite a wait. They brought them in cheap plastic cups and they were the worst. Mine was a mojito. The mint had not been crushed, nor did it have simple syrup or lime flavor. It was watery and flavorless. The other drinks people had were the same, watery and flavorless. We were very disappointed. The drinks are 3 times what you would pay anywhere else and to top that off , it was so bad. We didn't eat there because of this. Sad and embarrassing for our guests.

The hotel is great, by all means. Beach front, gorgeous views, friendly and caring staff. However, it feels very overpriced for what it offers, all cafes/bars/restaurants in the property are very expensive for what they offer and, the rooms could use some renovations to be par with the price that is charged. It's supposed to be a premium hotel, but the only thing that is premium is the price and location.

We have been looking forward to our stay here but a bit disappointed with our stay. We have stayed in quite a few luzury resorts but this one needs some work.

The employees act like they are doing us a favor not the feel of a Ritz or Waldorf where they make everyone feel special. Some were downright rude.

And unlike other top hotels, they charge for everything.

Won't be back

A beautiful historic hotel that just breathes of history. Many presidents and actors have stayed there and it really something to behold. Stay here if you have the chance and you won't be disappointed!

I didn't stay here, but we came for the beach, ice cream, and architecture. We had a great day searching for shells and crabs, building castles and observing the work of others, and taking in the shimmering gold sand. The tree in the front is breathtaking. Loved the caged lifts and the shops below.

Valet area is a disaster. Used to be able to self park. Now it s a mess.

Our room had glaze over the windows so you couldn t see out. Felt like we were staying in a closet.

With 2 small children we couldn t do the Royal Sunday brunch so we went to the Sheerwater instead. Don t bother, it s not good.

Pool is nice, but understaffed. The server dropped off a menu but never came back to take our food and drink order. Lame. Ordered from the bar instead, which is what we should ve done to begin with.

Housekeeping showed up once during our 3 night stay. We were out of the room almost the whole weekend.

It s really gone down hill in our opinion in the 2 years since we last stayed here. We won t be back. There are plenty of other beautiful places to stay in San Diego.

As I was a guest of a business convention renting multiple rooms in the hotel, I was sneakily given a badly located characterless dark room by the smiling receptionist.

I stayed for a few nights but I was busy at work and couldn't find free time around noon to beg for another room (of course they knew that..).

I felt disrespected and didn't enjoy my stay in this hotel.
Bitter memory to this day of "one of the ten best hotels in the world" (only if you stay in the 15,000 USD suite)..

Was on a tour, we just had time for a quick glance over. The outside didn't look too pretty but I was totally blown away one I took a step inside. The interior of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous.

This is for the bar. If you want to blow $22 on ONE drink, this is the place for you. A case of Redstripe at $8 too cheap for you? Go here and spend $11 on one bottle. Atmosphere is welcoming, though. I'll give them that.

The location is wonderful. I went to the hotel del to walk around the beach and Coronado. I didn't stay in a room or eat, but the quality looks amazing and I would definitely want to stay in the future.

Fantastic! A place right out of history. If you are a vintage movie buff you can walk in Marilyn Monroe's footsteps from Some Like it Hot. Fun shops, beautiful just to look around. Well above my financial means, but gorgeous just to walk thru! If you are into hauntings and spirits tred carefully . . . there is quite an aura around this location!

Probably one of the coolest Hotels I've ever visited. I have never stayed here, so I can't speak on that. My wife and I like to come here during Christmas time to check out the decorations and go through the stores. We also like to collect the ornaments they put out yearly. The shops are decent and sometimes surprise you. It's a great place to start or end your Coronado trip.

Don't go to dinner on Saturday night. The beautiful building rises out of the beach like a fairy castle, yes, and it's also overcrowded with beachgoers and the restaurant staff don't seem to know how to deal with crowds. Had a wait for a place at the bar, food was ok but not great, felt pressured to leave as soon as I finished eating. NOT a 5 star experience. Will not be back.

Beautiful historic hotel with endless amenities. There seems to be something for everyone to do while staying at Hotel del Coronado... Even if that means taking a short stroll though surrounding Coronado streets. The hotel has a fitness center, spa, pools, hot tubs and many in house shops. The only downside of the hotel is both it's lure and pain, it is old. That means the rooms aren't exactly quiet from the outside noises which include loud cars, planes, and helicopters. All three are constant 24/7. Aside from that I highly recommend the experience.

A good place to visit, but not the place to stay... It's more of a tourist destination for a few hours than a resort that's worth staying at, too pricey for what it offers which is minimal in terms of resort experience... I don't recommend for anything other than a couple of hours visit

One of the oldest place in town, you can actually breath history here and everywhere in the hotel and it's surroundings are top of the line restaurants and little boutiques. Also, in Christmas time, the ice skating court, it is very attractive. It is a must in your visit to San Diego.

Always great, a wonderful place to stay if you are visiting San Diego or if you lived here and just need a break. The second best beach in San Diego and easily the most unique hotel in San Diego. Good restaurants at the hotel and nearby in the heart of Coronado. Everyone should stay there at least once in their life.

Be careful when using your credit card at Hotel Del Coronado. They put a hold on my card for one night stay and went ahead and charged both the hold and hotel stay to my card. I checked in March 12 and checked out March 13. After 4 calls and promises that the hold will be released, I am dissapointed that the hold has been charged to my card including the hotel stay, and the hold has not been released to this day, March 23. Other hotels have an honest policy. I'm beginning to doubt Hotel Del Coronado has one.

To the management, please release the hold on my card immediately! - rm 3001 stay on March 12 to 13.

By far the most iconic hotel in the San Diego area with the most beautiful of beaches, the Hotel del Coronado is a destination hotel that offers unobstructed sunset views that are some of the best you'll experience anywhere.

Beautiful, historic hotel in the beautiful setting of Coronado Island. The architecture is gorgeous. The hotel is set on a stunning beach, and is open to the public. We were touring the island, not staying at the hotel, but we felt very welcome. Parking is super expensive, but with a validated ticket and proof of having spent $50 at the hotel, you can park for $5 (not sure if that is per hour...). We found free parking on the street and walked to explore the environs of the hotel and the beach. It was time very well spent!

They are doing a really nice advertising on internet and for a 4 star hotel you have some expectations. Unfortunately we arrived at 4 and our room was not ready. They said our room is getting cleaned. After one hour we got our room and is was Horrible. Motel 6 is much more cleaner than hotel del Coronado. Bedroom dirty, garbage under the curtains, bathroom dirtier than bedroom. Toilet got stuck. You have a hard time fitting your stroller thru elevator door. Will never come back again and I'll make sure none of my friends will come here!

My car key casing fell apart. Not the valet's fault. Had to wait 2.5 hours to pay over 100 dollars to a locksmith. They comped me dinner at Shearwater outside before Christmas by the ice rink on a beutiful full moon night. Food was to die for but good karma was the most important thing.

The hotel provides most everything a guest needs, great restaurants, stores, pool, beautiful grounds but we didn't have hot water. Even moving to another room and still no hot water. Our rooms overlooked the beach and ocean. So we had beautiful views. But being a top quality resort was surprised NO HOT WATER.
I would recommend this resort to most vacationers.

Staying at the Del has been on my bucket list for years. My husband booked 2 nights for us in the historic section of the hotel for my birthday. We were expecting a charming old world experience. I have never been so disappointed, our room was devoid of any charm at all. However, we did have a lovely view of the courtyard gardens and I was able to take the history tour with the hotel historian, which helped to ease the disappointment of our sterile room experience. The hotel elevator operators were kind and helpful as were the valets. Unfortunately one of the women working the check in desk was rude to us, I assumed she was having a bad day and didn't think much about it, but every time I walked past the desk, she was being rude to someone else. She needs an attitude adjustment or a different line of work. It was a memorable experience, just not in the way we'd hoped.

An icon in San Diego. You'll pay more to stay here than other hotels in the area but it's a beautiful resort with an unmatched beach. The Sunday brunch is excellent and I love eating dinner at 1500 Ocean and walking on the beach afterwards.

Hotel is gorgeous, old craftsmanship that is well cared for. I got a kick out of the old elevator manned by a nice old man. Outdoor dining overlooking the beach is great. Beach access as well. Staff was friendly.

Perfect for a weekend or a week! Perfect beach. You can make this a day trip! Eat at a great restaurant and enjoy the beach! Park in the lot and get a validation at the restaurant. The best restaurants. A very impressive property. The best holiday brunches, anywhere! (Book brunches way in advance). Validate parking.

I was just walking through to take in the historical sight and the hotel was quite beautiful. I did see the brunch offering and it was $65 a person so quite outside my price range but the area was gorgeous!

This is our second stay, and our experience has been nothing but terrible. We made reservations a few months in advance and yet they gave us the wrong room anyway. We asked for a full ocean view and ended up with a view of the parking lot. We are currently in the middle of trying to switch the room over to no avail. Concierge has been absolutely no help; they were supposed to call us back and send bellboys but everything they did was hours late, if at all. If we had gotten the right room or actual help then the stay wouldn't have been that bad. On top of all that, the rooms were understocked not cleaned as they should have been.
