High prices and pushy sales techniques.

Called to inquire about a pre-owned vehicle on the website and the salesperson started pumping me for information (last name, phone number, email, and what time I would come in that day) before I could ask a single question. Then when I asked about price, due to a near-identical vehicle (same year, model, and approx mileage) being offered for sale at another dealer for $2500 less, a manager got on the phone and was unwilling to have a discussion about it - he couldn't get me off the phone fast enough... Since when do car dealers get offended about trying to negotiate a price?

I'm happy to take my cash offer elsewhere, I was simply trying to avoid a 1 hour round trip drive to the other dealer. And I happen to know, courtesy of Carfax, the same exact vehicle had been for sale just down the street at Larson Ford for $2000 less (and didn't sell there for that price) before Honda Universe presumably did a swap to get it in their inventory.

Kyle Crawley was very helpful during this new experience. I have had other cars from dealers but not once have I ever experienced the professionalism that was presented. He knew his cars and if he didn t have the answer to a questioned I ask he would tell me the truth.. go get the answer then come back with it. Nothing but honesty. I ll recommend Kyle to everyone.

I went to look for a car. I was walking around looking at cars in the lot. Three sales people must have passed by, but one by the name of Kyle was the only one to stop and ask if I was being assisted. He took time to explain all of the features of the different cars I was looking at. Although I did not end up purchasing that day the experience was good. And when I am all ready to get a new car I will be going right back to Kyle. Thank you for everything.

Service department I took my car to get an oil change and a problem comes up. They told me a estimate for a job they wanted to work on for my car that literally was about 600 dollars I took it to another place and they fixed the issue for 500 dollars less. I feel they always want to take your money. Unprofessional in my opinion.

Horrible experience! After negotiations we arrived to pick up car and they added over $1000 to the price from dealer prep to etching of glass to document fees all which was not disclosed at our three meetings. I might add if new to car buying this is how dealerships make even more money by adding thsee fees which are all BS. These fees are all avoidable you don't have to pay these are scams. The old bait and switch. I went to Wall honda saved over $2700 more plus they didn't charge the above BS!! I also ended up buying a Pilot two months later at Wall Honda. Stay away from Honda Universe in my opinions the quintessential car dealership scams.

I am the type of person to be suspicious of sales people of any kind, but Jessica was very friendly, helpful, and honest! Not the first time i brought my car in for service...

Not the first time i brought my car in for service, but it is the last. I brought my car in with a radio issue. I was told testing was done and no issue found. I asked what testing was done and couldn't get an answer. I get in my car, radio is working. I start to drive and it stops working. This leads me to believe they didn't even try to troubleshoot. A real waste of time, and i still have an outstanding issue.

It's a shame I can't give more than 5 stars.
My sales person was Sean, he is the best friendliest salesman.
The best part is, he really is trying to figure out what it is that I want and could afford and then providing just that.
Never tried to get me to pay for stuff I don't need or want and the best is wtvr number they give u is the actual number NO SURPRISES.
Very pleasant transaction, this is my second lease through Sean at Honda Universe and my 10nth car.
Guys if u want all that 5 start service come looking for Sean at Honda Universe.

Update to review: I needed some changes In the lease and Sean would just bend over to make sure I am 100% satisfied.

Scott DuPont called me on November 22nd and inquire if I received a recall notice for my airbags. He explained he was from the sales department, he wanted to follow up with Honda customers about the recall. He said he would make the service appointment, but I declined. I decided to look at the new Civic because he was more concerned with my safety and that of my family. I receive several solicitations; Scott s call was very different he obviously cares about customer service and not JUST SELLING cars.
The fact he didn t push me to buy a new car was very important. I ve decided to replace my Civic instead of repairing the airbags. I m going to shop with Scott DuPont, if you re looking for a Honda I recommend speaking with Scott first at Honda Universe.

After a horrible sales experience with Honda of Freehold, tried Honda Universe. I knew that I wanted the Pilot EX-L model. I worked with Gerold who showed me the new features on the screen with Apple Car Play and others. Sales Mgr Ozzy was great and a gentleman every step of the way. They agreed to the offer Freehold reneged on and I left that day with a new car. A long process from time I agreed to the price until I left, but bottom line, very easy to work with. Would go back to them for my next vehicle purchase. Already recommended them a friend and they made a deal that Freehold would not make for a 2018 Odyssey.

Absolutely awful dealership. I hesitated writing a review for a while but after today I needed to. Their service department is a joke. I brought a new leased vehicle in because it was pulling to one side when I was driving on straight roads. They told me nothing was wrong and everything was within spec. Oh and they charged me $100 for telling me that. I fought with them for 20 minutes and they wouldn't give the keys back until I paid. Then I was getting tons of offers in the mail to turn in my lease and upgrade to a new lease with either no increase or a slight increase in payment. After working out a deal online with them, I went into the dealer with my documents stating what the deal was going to be. They said they could not stand by that deal and they were sorry. I actually called an hour before I went in today to make sure everything was good to go with my deal at $199 per month for a civic lease and they said they made a mistake and they didn't know some of the details, all of which I clearly and concisely outlined to them and they understood in the e-mails. This place is an absolute joke and extremely dishonest. I can honestly say I would never recommend them to a friend or family member and will never do business with them again. They'll say anything to get you in the dealership but it's all a lie.

I have worked with John in the past getting my daughter a car and when my car died I called and told him what I was looking for and he told me to come down. When I arrived John and Neil were waiting for me with the car I described. The whole process took less than 2 hours. I would highly recommend Honda Universe to all my friends..

John continues to help me with service scheduling and other needs he is a great asset to your company. My lease will be up in about 6 months and because of John's dedication to customer service I will be coming back there for my next car.

Though I don't get to drive the Honda Civic that we came to purchase in December for my christmas present 'cause my wife Roseline is still driving it I must say it is still and remained an experience I will remember for years to come.

I did not have a good experience here. After some going back and forth over the phone about my credit and my husband's, it was determined we needed a co-signer. No problem. I know my credit is not good but my husband's wasn't awful. My mom agrees to co-sign.

I'm already being told I can take the car home today. I said I will be by myself so I won't be able to take it and then was told, "No problem, we can have someone follow you with the new car". I did not agree to this. How can I bring a car home when all parties won't even be there to sign the paperwork?!

I head down after work. It was discussed that I can put down some money. Finance came back to me with a high monthly payment. I asked what I needed to do to try and bring that payment down to what I felt we could afford. I was told $4000. I mentioned I'd have to discuss with my husband. It was suggested that I take the car and bring it to him so he could see it (he was working). I declined. After more discussion and more suggesting that I take the car to my husband so he could see it, I decided I needed more time to think about it and discuss it with my husband. So I left a check to hold the car.

The next day we went elsewhere, got the car we wanted for the same price, with the same amount of money I told Honda Universe I could put down, for close to the monthly payment we wanted, and with just my husband on the loan. No co-signer.

Fast forward to today. I stopped in this morning to pick up my check I left for the deposit. Salesperson tells finance I'm there for my check and ALL OF A SUDDEN they can finance the car to us for the payment we wanted with the down payment we were willing to pay. I said no thanks, my husband already purchased another car elsewhere. Needless to say I was handed back my check by a very unhappy salesperson. I said thank you and I didn't even so much as get a "Have a nice day".

So I'm not sure if they were trying to screw me out of money or if they were just going to let me take the car saying I'm approved, and then like I read in other reviews, call me in 3 weeks saying the car needed to be returned? Who knows. Glad we took our business elsewhere.

Worst service manager ever!!! I brought my 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring Edition in for service because one of the features was not working. I was told there is nothing wrong with the car but the auto idle engine stop feature still does not work!! I was told by Honda to try bringing it to another dealer for service (Honda of Toms River) they refused to take on another dealers mess . Honda then instructed me to take it back to Honda Universe where I bought the car. I spoke to a service advisor who asked if the vehicle is not operating correctly right now and can I bring it in so they can witness it. I said sure I ll bring it in and you can see for yourself, while in route to the dealer I get a call from the service manager Harvey who informs me that they will not look at my vehicle!! I asked him to let me bring it in so he could see for himself that the system is not operational, he said no, they have the right to refuse service!! I asked if he could produce another vehicle with the same features as mine and see if the system works on a day like today ( as instructed by Honda ) again he refused. How is this ok, how can a vehicle that s still under warranty not be allowed to come in and be fixed? How is that any kind of customer service??? Harvey and Honda Universe you should be ashamed!!! You don t belong in customer service!!!

Truthfully just not a great place to buy a car if you re willing to drive 25 minutes to another Honda dealer , they have a bunch of fees that just completely unnecessary like a 1200 dollar PDI fee and apparently overpay for cars they buy so they have to move that responsibility of poor buying skills onto the buyer, Was looking at a civic that KBB said was worth no more than 18,500 at their miles and when I told him that he simply said oh don t worry we will drop the 1200 fee so compensate for that and when I complained their was a pretty decent dent on the rear fender he laughed and said it was a 100 dollar dent and he is already dropping the 1200 BS fee and wouldn t move on their price of 20,500 for a car that wasn t worth that at all.

Please be very careful when you go to the financial department. I had an awful experience on 04/01. Chintia Cubero is the financial manager at this dealership and she was the person who tried to scam my husband and I. She made us sign our contract based on lies she made up. She increased our monthly payment by $28.00 claiming it was the bank requesting to increase the payment not the dealership. She said it was because my credit wasn't that strong because I haven't established it long enough so if I wanted to be on the leasing contract the tier would drop from tier 1 credit rating to tier 2 and payments would be $28.00 more every month.. My husband and I decided to sign but when we got home I called the bank to ask them if that was true.. I guess she thought we were stupid enough just to believe what she said. I had a feeling something wasn't right. When I called the bank they confirmed that Chintia did not tell us the truth and furthermore they told me that my husband and I were approved together at their lowest rate they offer so I had the right to be on the contract without a monthly payment increase. She was either going to remove me, if we didn't accept the increase, or make us pay $28.00 more per month for me to stay on the leasing contract. Not to mention she tried to brain wash me by insisting I needed to stay on the contract so my credit would eventually be perfect and not to be stupid and lose that opportunity. The bank advised us to go back to the dealership to confront them and get the contract fixed right away (which they did). They fixed and apologized for the inconvenience. The problem is that they didn't fire the woman responsible for this wrong doing. So the only thing I can do is to warn anyone who is going to buy their car there please be careful at the financial department with her...

Totally unacceptable and probably not legal. manager knew I was a cash buyer and tried to get me to eat that. then they added another $1500 on to their price. the manager told me to read the "SMALL PRINT" I was really turned off by the dishonesty . Manager should be fired. period. save yourself the aggravation

8 cars purchased from Honda Universe and still going strong! My first car was purchased with the help of John McGraw. At the time, John was my salesperson. He has since been promoted to Customer Relations Manager.
My lease was due to expire soon. and I made an appointment to come back to Honda Universe this past Saturday. On Saturday morning I received a call from John McGraw. He called me from his home on his day off. He noticed I had an appointment and wanted to make sure that everything went smoothly. He called the Sales Manager, Nick Salerno (who is also awesome) to make sure I was taken care of. Needless to day, everything went great. I purchased a new Honda Passport and my daughter purchased a new Honda Civic.
You can't go wrong at Honda Universe. The service is impeccable!!! John McGraw and Nick Salerno bent over backwards to make sure everything went well. Thank you John and Nick for taking care of me and my family for our car needs.

How many people can say they actually felt comfortable the minute they walked into a dealership?
Me!!!
I called and spoke with Katlyn who was covering internet sales explained my situation ..
The minute I waked in to Honda I was treated warmly , Heylin Liriano my sales rep was waiting with a car for me to test drive!!
Heylin is very knowledgeable, graceful and very humbled.. Not like those pushy salespeople who won t let you breath. She provided everything I ask for without question or excuse..
The very next day Nick the manager assisted my credit union with everything they needed until Heylin came in! When a I got there my car was waiting for me at a very decent price!!
What an amazing group of people!!!
Thank you so much for an amazing experience!!
I was so anxious but you guys made me feel like family.
I recommend Heylin Liriano and Honda Universe if you are going to purchase a Honda

i went in there a few years back traded a $5,000 car in and they gave me $3,000 what ever i m ok with that. but i told the sales men do not keep running my credit if it donesnt work don t do it im done. and he just kept running it. in total. he ran it 28 times. i looked at my credit report and i dropped in score just cause of that. so first of the worest thing ever. then they mad me but a car they just got in didn t clean it the car was broke they wouldn t fix it with out me paying and i paid for the warranty s. i wouldn t send my worst enemy there to buy a car. stay clear from there don t buy a car from these people have no idea how to sell a car or treat people we are only money to them.

We worked with Rahsaan looking at two cars on the lot; a Toyota Highlander and a Honda Pilot. He truly is a very good salesman and although I bought a Highlander at another dealer, I wanted to give him a shout out for doing everything he could to help us buy a car. The dealer fee they attach to each car is just over the top and out of his control, so we bought at another place. They did honor discounts and web pricing, but the dealer fee was significantly higher than two others we were working with. But I would highly recommend Rahsaan if you go to Honda Universe looking for a vehicle.

I would leave Zero starts if I could. It s a horrible dealership.
The attitude of the salesman was terrible. He lied about the money factor and lease terms Honda was offering. The GM was not any better. The people working at the dealership are visibly unhappy. I would highly advise you avoid this dealership.

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had at a car dealership.
While I understand nothing is final until it's in pen, to have a sales manager say twice they made a mistake and have the price go up is completely unacceptable.
The total difference for the price of the car was $750 from the
first offer they said that we agreed to. This was explicitly explained as an "out the door price"

Kyle is the BEST! Hes is an amazing sales person. He made the experience very enjoyable with his sense of humor. His manager, Nabil was nice too. I will be referring people here as long as these two are around. Keep up the good work!

Don t let them fool you! My wife bought a certified pre-owned vehicle and we received paperwork ensuring that all 182 points of inspection met standards . Before we even drove it off the lot they agreed to fix a leaking tire but we later found out it wasn t really fixed, they just cleared the code. The worst part is, we later came to find out through service records that the previous owner was told the car needed the transmission serviced and that they declined the service. Then the dealership, in preparation for sale of the certified pre-owned vehicle NEVER fixed it and decided to just check off that it now magically met all the standards. If that doesn t sound like textbook FRAUD, I don t know what is. The new service manager assured me now that they will make the necessary fixes and stand behind their product which I m hopeful about. I just feel bad for anyone else who may have had this happen to them and doesn t even know it. Apparently this happened under the previous service manager (before August of 2019) so new customers are hopefully in the clear. I m sure I m not the only one if people looked into their service records of their certified pre-owned vehicles.

High prompts sent out to Bryant, my salesman. As I knew what I wanted when walking through the door, we were able to sit down go over the deal with no hassles or haggles everything went smoothly. The Finance manager Cynthia worked with me on the extended warranty with a dollar amount we both could live with. I would highly recommended this dealer as I was in and out the door with a new / used car quickly, efficiently w/o the bull ____.
