The room was clean and the bathroom was nice. The bathroom actually looked better than expected in terms of decor (keeping in mind this is just a Holiday Inn). 2 minor grievances:
1. There was an apple core on the floor in the middle of the hallway
2. The ice machine looked like it hadn't been cleaned in decades and barely functioned.

Decent price for the area, nice room. Only issue is- if you are driving here up Hwy 1, hotel is easy to miss (hint: look for the Italian restaurant sign next door its along the road- Carrabbas) Then turning around is obtuse the way Hwy 1 is designed, easy to get lost of you're not from this area. You cannot turn into the hotel driving south on Hwy 1.

Don't assume that the name "Holiday Inn" implies a "better" level of quality.
I knew I'd made a mistake the minute I checked in. The reserved adjacent rooms were "not available" until I said I would stay elsewhere and demanded a refund of the credit card deposit. First impression - an old cinder block building. Hot in the elevator since the AC didn't work. Carpets dirty and smelling of mold. Ice machine did not work on the third floor - I paid a cleaning person to get me a bucket. Coffee machine in the room did not work. Door between the rooms locked - request to fix acknowledged and then ignored.
Returned to the hotel after dinner out - at 9:30PM. Parked outside a room on the first floor with fire alarm lights flashing through closed curtain. TWO HOURS LATER the motel alarms went off - buzzers and flashing lights in the hallways. Turns out somebody identified this fleabag hotel as a good place to set up a METH LAB. The idiot started a fire which attracted every fire engine in a five town radius plus the HAZMAT squad. All guests sent outside to parking lot.
We spent the night elsewhere as we didn't want to stand around in the parking lot for the three hours estimated by police to clean things up. Collected things in the morning less a new fifth of Vodka, stolen by a hotel employee.
Was assured by the front desk that we would not be charged for either room. I was in fact charged for one room. It took four phone calls to the manager over the course of two weeks to get a refund. Manager tried to offer a free night at a future date rather than a refund. Not a chance would I ever set foot in this sorry fleabag joint.

This has to be the strangest hotel my partner and I have ever stayed in. By far my worst experience and it was only for one night. After staying in a different Holiday Inn about a month ago in PA I had very high expectations and was excited for our stay here in Peabody. Upon arriving the hotel looked run down and old. The front desk staff was kind, however, my partner and I waited at the desk over 5 minutes for someone to arrive and help us each time we had to go up there (which was multiple times). Trying to get a room took an hour and a half even though we pre-booked our room online. The first room keys we received didn t work, I thought I must be putting them in the door wrong so I asked the housekeeping lady to let me in. She opened the door to my room with her master key and before I even walked in I could see the bed was not made and there was trash on the desk and floor from a previous stay. I took the very long walk back up to the desk to inform the staff that my room had not been cleaned yet and my room keys did not work. No apology for giving us a dirty room and the man at the desk said he had a feeling the keys weren t going to work because it had been an ongoing problem. So he assigns us a second room, and the same thing happens, the room keys don t work. So now this is my 3rd time at the desk with an issue, a woman working the desk brought me back to my room for the 3rd time to try my keys and had to let me in with her master key and told me I d have to pick up new keys later and was very apologetic. I was very understanding with the front desk, I don t believe in causing a stink to the people on the front line because more times than not it s not their fault and it s something wrong with management. So now we re finally in a room after an hour and a half and there s water damage on the ceiling above the windows and the ceiling is peeling off, the wallpaper in the bathroom is peeling off the walls and I found hair in the shower drain and on the bed. One of the lamps doesn t work and the bed frame makes a god awful thud and click every time you sit on it like it either broken or is clicking in and out of place. After all this we wake up early the next morning to get breakfast in time. Our confirmation email for the room said we could enjoy a FREE breakfast in their dining room. So we walk around the entire building to the dining area to find out that breakfast is $11 a person and there is in fact NO continental breakfast. Our confirmation email also said that checkout the next day would be at 2pm and the front desk informed us that it was actually 11am that we would have to be out by. Extremely confusing and unprofessional. I would give this place 0 stars if I could expect that the front desk staff was very apologetic, but no accommodations were offered after the fiasco that happened. If I could get my money back I would, this stay was not worth almost $200 for one night. Absolutely ridiculous.

Well- start with just upkeep. Stains in the carpet, just dirty when you walk in the hall. The room was much better- decent, not great.
Then the fun started. Check in at 7. Go to dinner- back at 830 to shower and prep for meetings. Boom- no hot water. Go to call front desk. Boom- phone doesn't work.
Turns out- they knew there was no hot water- already had a plumber in. Said he has to order a new part - new part can't be ordered without approval of owner. It's 9pm now.
At least they cancelled and let us leave with no charge. That's the 1 star.
Got a suite next door at Springhill for $30/night less.

We were in a ballroom for a party. It was nice enough, however the staff couldn't figure out the lights and it was a few minutes of testing and trying things while people were trying to get in the groove to dance. Everything was well kept and as expected of a hotel ballroom, if unmemorable.

From the girls at the restaurant to the ladies that clean your room they know cunstomer service. having carrabbas next door is a great added bonus for me-they will deliver to your room!! Lobby is up to date and comfortable to sit and chat with my coworkers. I truly enjoy staying at the holiday inn peabody.

Will never be staying here again. Aside from one of the older gentlemen at the front desk, this place was horrible. Thank God for him because he was a sweetheart. My room was directly across from the housekeeping room on the first floor. The women who work there are loud and ignorant. Screaming and messing around at the crack of dawn while my children tried to sleep. The room looked clean until you looked at the tables and saw how dirty they are up close. Our beds were uncomfortable too. I've been to other Holiday Inn's and they were much better. This place needs to up their game. They didn't even have a refrigerator and microwave like every other hotel i have been in has had.

Scammed my family out of a lot of money. It ended up costing over $300 to stay here for one night. There was a surprise charge that we were never made aware of. People from Massachusetts are dry and hate New Yorkers, so they scam them. Won t be back.

The hotel is run down! We are from out of state, so we decided to go ahead and stay there because the rooms had been booked well in advance. It seemed okay enough until it started to rain. We came back one afternoon to my friend s suitcase and clothes being soaking wet. We asked to be moved to another room when we discovered the windows and wall were leaking. We had the problem in the 2nd room, the same problem in the third room we were moved to! They said their hotel was fine, but the windows just aren t sealed. The bathrooms were dirty. The shower floor was slippery and there was nowhere to put your toiletries. There was mold on the ceiling in one of the bathrooms. I am very allergic mold. After staying at the hotel I came down with a horrible cough. When we finally had to change hotels (to an actual nice hotel), my cough got about 50% better. However, it hasn t gone away yet, and we checked out of the Peabody Holiday Inn last Thursday afternoon (10/17/19). The elevator was old and scary. The second floor smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, even though it s supposedly a non-smoking hotel. The third floor smelled strongly of marijuana. They agreed to refund my friend for two of the nights we were there, but have yet to release her funds, even though they promised it would be done already. Now we are both out of money between this hotel and me having to pay for a new hotel. Don t stay here!!! It s gross and unprofessional!

The staff is fantastic, especially Leonard! Always greeted with a friendly smile and warm demeanor. The rooms are very clean and spacious and the amenities are plentiful. All for a fair price! I stay here once every year for a mom's getaway and I won't be changing reservations any time soon. I highly recommend!

My wife and I have consistently stayed at Holiday Inns' because of the quality and reliability of them but after this we may be reevaluating. When we first entered our room we took off our shoes to unwind after a long trip and our socks get wet. Approximately 1/3 of the floor was wet all around the air conditioner. The room had a musty smell that was hard to overcome. We informed the staff and they were apologetic about it. When we came back from dinner our floor smelled like marijuana which was only frustrating because it's a non smoking hotel. As for the bed, it felt like someone forgelot to put a mattress down and we were sleeping on an old box spring that lost any give it may have once had. It was a good thing we had tylenol in our bags. It took about a solid ten minutes to get any sort of hot water into the shower. We were in an end room which would likely explain this. We ended up leaving a day early. I would have given this one star but the staff were friendly and it was an easy commute into Salem for the amazing downtown festivities.

Was not impressed at all, when we arrived at 1030 at night there was a bunch of people just hanging out in the lobby making noises and drinking... as walking to the room what must of been the manger was on the phone telling someone we need to clear these people out, as we arrived to the floor we were staying the security guy was hovering by a room waiting on the manager. We got to the room and it wasn't that great, they gave us one towel for 4 people we walked all the way down to the front desk to get more and they said quote ain't got none man, it smelled funny, the wallpaper was coming off the walls in the bathroom, if it would not have been so late we would have stayed else where, usually the holiday express are decent and for $170 it was definitely not worth that!!!

This was one of the most pleasant hotel stays I ve ever had. We arrived pre check-in time because we flew from Arizona for a wedding, and from the moment we walked in we felt welcome. Leonard went above and beyond to help find a room that was ready for us, and the room was perfect. It was very cleanly with nice amenities (toiletries, dishes in the kitchenette, etc). Even the pull-out bed in the couch was super comfortable!
Breakfast had a lot of options and seemed to please everyone in our wedding group. The voucher process for breakfast was a little weird and that would be my only recommendation to change.
Really big shoutout to Leonard... I kept hearing his name come up among family and friends as they arrived to the hotel for the wedding. Leonard is a gem! Thanks for making us feel so special!

Booked a room at another hotel through Expedia. The hotel was full, so Expedia moved me to this holiday inn. At Check-in, I was denied a room because I have an emotional support animal. The original hotel was pet friendly, and when I made the change with Expedia, they did not include that option in my new hotel. The individual at the front desk was completely rude from the moment I walked in the door. When I explained to him that I have an ESA he said we re not pet friendly, I informed him that my dog is not a pet and provides a service for which I can furnish documentation for. He then said whatever rolled his eyes and proceeded to fiddle with the computer. Once he saw that I was booked to stay for four nights, he said he had to call a manager about my dog (a 16 year old, ten pound dog). I was then told that they would not allow me to stay with my dog, and he decided to put my cards (ID and CC) on the counter instead of handing them to me as I handed them to him.

Reserved rooms at this hotel for guests attending my wedding. Here are the problems we faced:
-guests were told there were no more rooms when they called to reserve (there were plenty)
-guests were told there was no room block on file under our names
-when initially reserving the room block the manager informed us the hotel would be newly renovated prior to our wedding and when we arrived for the reservations nothing had been changed.
-same manager told us prior to our wedding the restaurant next door would be something nice and new, during our reserved dates there was NO restaurant next door.
-guest who paid cash had their card double charged at check out
- more than one guest had the cleaning service unlock their doors and barge into their room 2-3 hours before it was even checkout time.
-woke up the next morning to 3 MICE running across the floor next to our bed!
If you plan on reserving a room block here I suggest you don t as it was the most frustrating part of the whole wedding planning process. The staff that answers the phone is extremely unhelpful and rude, we had to call back on several occasions to sort out reservation problems that ultimately should not have been a problem. Save the headache and your money and book elsewhere.
