I had to sell my car, because I was scheduled to leave Hawaii. Since I got my new VW Passat from this place, I contacted this place the first. Cause I really loved my car, I wanted my car be in the best condition for next owner. For me, Honolulu VW should be the place, cause I got the car from that place and I had all my service from that place.
However that sales guy who sold the car to me, EJ, just replied once and then ignored the emails I sent to him.
Also, when you drive your car to service area, you can find it's not organized. You don't even know where to park your car.
Their 'app' is also not easy to use.
I know we don't have many options in the island. Especially close to downtown Honolulu, this is only VW dealer. But, still you have lots of other brands around.

We wanted the lowest trim of GTI, and it was arriving off the boat late that day. We had to come back later for it, but it was washed and ready for us to close as we had already test driven and just wanted to drive this one to check it quickly. No other fancier models available, but this one had everything we wanted in a GTI: nice styling and design, great acceleration, nice mats, good leg space in front and rear seat, decent space in trunk, small. We had a Prius for 11 years, so it was hard not to go with another Prius, but the 2018 designs were so hideous, it made it hard to ignore when getting a new car. The 54-58 mpg of the new Prius outpaced most cars except for electric ones, and the great gas mileage almost made it possible to overlook the ugly Prius interior design, digital panel and lame interface. But in the end, we decided to go for a gas engine and German design. Since VW has a 6-year/72K warranty, it addressed my main concern of repair costs and what-if-it's-a-lemon. Again, buying a Prius (on the mainland), Servco would not honor our warranty when we shipped it here, which was frustrating. (VW's warranty goes with the car, even if the owner transfers.)
When we arrived at VW's dealership, someone quickly found Livingston (sales), and he was easy to work with as other Yelp and Google reviews noted. He helped us trade-in our old car, as well as do whatever he could to keep the price at bay. He wasn't heavy on sales pitches, but he did figure out we were going to buy and tried to smooth the way for that. Erik Mak in Finance got us through payment quickly because of his expertise. It would have helped if he had talked us through a fast summary of each paragraph that we were signing. That would be my only critique. Otherwise, he was also easy to work with, efficient, clear, and not pushy about products or other offers. I really liked that, and how he was all business since it was late. Livingston has continued to help follow up with a number of small details, and he greets me any time we come in to VW or call for some help. I can't say I like to be at a dealership, to buy a car, or to deal with salespeople, but this was about as pleasant an experience as I could have hoped for. Many thanks to Livingston and to Erik!

My wife and I recently leased a 2019 Jetta from Honolulu VW. I m delighted to tell you that the three individuals who assisted us Ivan Felix, Jeremy Fontes, and Erik Mak truly provided an unexpectedly spectacular experience. Indeed, as someone who spent ten years with the number-one volume Audi dealership in America, my expectations of a far lesser experience were quickly dispelled.
During my initial investigatory visit, I was warmly greeted by Ivan Felix. After the perfunctory exchange of basic information, Ivan diligently listened to my stated needs and then professionally responded. During our test drive, he confidently answered my questions and endeavored to further pique my interest with each reply. After we returned to the showroom, Ivan asked Jeremy Fontes to help clarify several pertinent matters which were then still somewhat disconcerting to me. Jeremy immediately established a great rapport, and skillfully offered far more than superficial-yet-perfunctory input. I came back the next day with my wife, and she too commented on how surprised she was with the high level of professionalism and warmth shown by everyone in the store. Once again, Ivan made sure my wife was comfortable in every respect, and Jeremy deftly handled my myriad requests regarding the lease parameters. Our experience was consistently furthered during our time with Erik Mak, their finance person. Although I knew what to expect during this portion of the sales process, my wife had many questions and concerns Erik patiently explained each step, and gracefully weathered my texting one of my contacts at Audi Financial Services when I wanted some behind the curtain information.
I must say that although the numbers (and facilities) are markedly different, our experience with leasing a vehicle from Honolulu VW rivals any we ve had at Audi, Jaguar, or Mercedes dealerships on the mainland. I wholeheartedly recommend Ivan, Jeremy, and Erik and of course the dealership to anyone who s considering buying or leasing a new VW on Oahu.

3.5 hours to change two tires, and that s with an appointment. Rude and incompetent staff. Our experience with Volkswagen in general, and the dealerships on this island specifically has been horrible. 7 check engine lights in the first 30k miles and the response is just a shrug of the shoulders from the service people who can t seem to figure out the problem and are not concerned in the least with trying. Avoid at all costs.
I went in for a safety check on my vehicle that was shipped from the mainland. It was easy, breezy, and comfortable. While I waited, I was able to watch TV in the lobby, with the option of even having control over the remote to change the channel. There was also coffee and water for guests. My service advisor, Mike, was more than helpful as he walked me though the process. I was even offered a complimentary car wash, which was the best part. Great experience.

So it was entertaining that they ordered a part scheduled today and then the person who was helping us couldn't find the part so instead of just a quick drop off like we thought it would be it took a little more time. Hopefully the next time they will be better at after they schedule something that we can just hand the keys and depart.
Had to wait over 3 hours to speak with the finance guy to actually buy my car. During the process of buying it the finance guy left in the middle of the process leaving me by myself in the office for about 25 min and came back smelling like cigarettes. They mailed my registration refund check to the wrong address. I didn't get a spare key to my car. And my car broke down about 6 months after getting it.
Everyone was nice and accommodating. The staff provided me all the information that is important for me to know. He made sure to call me and let me know about the estimated price on the service before its done.
I was in contact with Jeffrey for about a year after deciding to buy a Volkswagen Golf R but he said they were still waiting on one to come in. He kept in contact with me throughout the year. When a new shipment of very limited Golf Rs came in, Jeffrey notified me, but I had already changed my mind about getting one.
About 6 months later, I was browsing online and noticed a nice used gray 2015 Golf R was listed on their site. I contacted Honolulu VW and Jeffrey got back to me right away. I told him I would like to take a look at it after lunch on Saturday. So I went down after lunch and a young salesman named Kyle greeted me. I told him I would like to talk to Jeffrey so he told me to wait a little while since he was busy. A couple minutes later he mentioned Jeffery was still busy so he would be able to help me out. Kyle was very personable and friendly throughout the whole process. He was very knowledgeable and always kept me updated on everything throughout the process. Eric was also very friendly and great to talk with about the financing. He also was very knowledgeable and made the financing process go smoothly. The wait was a bit long but it was totally worth it. They were nice enough to offer us pizza and water or coffee as I waited. Jeffrey was also nice to talk to and very knowledgeable about everything. He also kept me updated on the progress of my car as they detailed it. Everything went smoothly and was painless for my first time buying my own car.

BUYER BEWARE! This place is a total rip off.. My daughter had a horrible first time buyer experience at Honolulu Volkswagon.
First, They completely screwed up her financing and wanted her to return the car after driving it for a month. We provided all the proof of income documents and they told her the financing was approved. A few weeks later, they said the financing company canceled the deal and she had to return the car. After seeing my daughter cry, I had to step in to co-sign for her. I have never heard of a dealership saying financing was approved and allowing a customer to drive off with a car for a month.
Second, After we fixed the financing issue, we find an oil leak. Honolulu Volkswagon sold her the car with a "60 day warranty" because the car was less than 100k miles. She took the car in within the 60 days to repair the oil leak BUT they told her that the warranty DOES NOT cover that and wanted to charge her $500 to fix it.
We took the car to a local mechanic and he fixed it for less than $200.
This place is a total rip off!! do not buy from them!! They will lie and manipulate you.

Since moving to the Island 4 years ago we've purchased all our cars from here. The staff are friendly and helpful, the service is great and the location is very convenient. We just purchased the new GTI autobahn and Brendon was very patient while comparing the options and very knowledgeable about the features of each model. We got a good trade in value for the 2016 Golf we purchased from then before and Eric got us a great rate on the auto loan. I can highly recommend VW Honolulu for anyone looking to purchase a VW, new or old.

We walked onto the lot already knowing what we wanted. One of the guys walked up to us and was very friendly, asked what we were looking for and got us out for a test drive in the 2016 Golf we wanted very quickly. He was very knowledgeable about the car and it's features. When we got back to the lot he helped us fill in all the forms to purchase it and the financial guy was great too. The car detail (cleaning, waxing, etc.) took awhile but the car looked immaculate when it was ready and they gave us both some free merchandise too. Thank you!

Follow up to my previous review
I recently left a review stating how great and easy it was to sell my truck to Honolulu Volkswagen. When I sold my truck on April 3rd I worked with Jeremy and Shawna. Jeremy and I had a conversation about how it would take a week or two before a check would arrive in the mail, he explained that dealerships have specific time slots where they are allowed to go to the dmv and that the registration process can take a few days. This seemed reasonable to me but today I write this review over a month later and I still have not been paid for my truck. I chose to go with a dealership because I thought it would be less complicated turns out I was wrong. If you want to sell to Honolulu Volkswagen because you are in a hurry don t. I can t imagine the world of hurt I would have been in if I needed that money to buy a new car in my new location.
I presented this follow up review to shawna in the hope that she would get the situation taken care of. She requested one day to figure how to resolve the situation. The only response I got that was I would receive a phone call from her manager the next day. I did speak to her manager two days later when I called Honolulu Volkswagen myself. It seemed as though the manager was hearing about the situation for the first time.
I also made contact with Jeremy the same day I sent this review to shawna, he assured me that we would have a conversation the following Monday when the finance department was open so we could get this figured out. I still haven t received a call.
The issue was resolved 5 weeks from handing the keys over. Had I not made contact with the manager myself I m not sure when I would have gotten paid.
I was one day away from calling the police.

The sales and leasing consultant (Mr. Edin Begic) treated us with honesty and respect and answered all of our questions. The model we wanted was not in stock and they ordered it for us without any argument, chicanery or severe bait-and-switch ploys. The car drove and handled nicely, better than comparable models for other brands that we test drove recently. We feel satisfied with this experience, which we found to be quite refreshing and pleasant compared to most of the other dealerships we have visited recently -- there was no sleaze at Honolulu VW!

I m very happy with my experience with Honolulu VW during COVID. We worked with Jeremy and EJ to set up an appointment via text message to come in to trade-in/lease a car and also change the oil on another car in one 3 hour block of time. EJ was attentive and honest, helping us find the perfect fit for our family and helping us get in and out efficiently while our baby slept. We would work with EJ again for any future car buying needs. This is our fourth VW and we ve never been disappointed.

Livingston was a great help! Before i even decided to buy a car we were talking just about current events and it made me feel comfortable. Turns out i ended up getting a great deal on a car that was hidden in the back and he was a huge help as i was kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Livingston was patient while i made some phone calls and walked me through the process. Overall i will be for sure coming back here and working with him and Lithia Volkswagen with anything that i need.
If I could give negative stars, I would. To sum it all up we dropped my wife's car off to get the convertible bloat she needs estimated and ac checked, when they gave us a over the top quote we said no we will come pick it up, when my wife got in the car she drove down the block and realized the trip tonic doesn't work. So she does what anybody would do and drives it back and asks what happened to it. They stated " we didn't drive it at all, there is no way that could be our fault" eventually that changed to " this is a very expensive part, we can cover the labor but not the part." Amazing service .....NOT. Very disappointed in the service department and HATE being lied to by what is supposed to be a more "professional" option for service. In short, we will not ever be coming back here and we fully recommend that Nobody uses their service department.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE @ HONOLULU VW, WAYNE WEISENFLUH, Service Advisor. Puts that other dealership's Service Advisor to shame. My family and I lease a few VWs through the other dealership, but they can thank the incompetence/ongoing arrogance of their Service Advisor, "D", for this poor review of their service department and for us no longer willing to do business with them. Note: Because my sales person at the other dealership did exceed expectations, I was willing to accept prior negative experiences with "D", but this was the final straw.
Long story short: If it was not for WAYNE WEISENFLUH, Service Advisor @ Honolulu VW, I may have believed the outright lie "D" told me about the condition of my coolant and would have been out several hundred dollars and then some.
6/2015: Took my leased VW for service check to that other dealership. Upon pick-up, was handed the invoice, along with Multipoint Inspection List. Wasn't offered any explanation, by "D"/anyone, so I assumed all was well. In scanning the list, I saw the yellow box next to "Coolant Reservoir" checked, meaning "May Require Attention"; under "Comments": "COOLANT RESERVOIR CONTAMINATED WITH INCORRECT COOLANT."
Went to "D", asked him what it meant. Prior experience typically meant walking on eggshells when you had a question. Phrased my question accordingly. Said he had to check. ??? Returns. Informs me I or someone I permitted to work on the car contaminated the coolant.
??? I lease the car, I tell him, precisely for the reason that I do not know anything about cars!!! -- and WHY would I actually go somewhere to PAY for someone else to monkey with my coolant when leasing means having the convenience of that dealership's service department?? Still, he shows me the cloudy coolant - yes, it IS murky --- but I didn't do it, I tell him AGAIN.
The debate escalated. Utterly frustrated, I start to give in ... my word against his - he wins, since his technician supports him.
I ask how do I fix this? And what happens if I can't afford the repair right now? Then what??
"D" in his infinite smugness: "If you don't get it fixed, you'll do damage that will run a few hundred dollars more than it costs to fix it now - a few hundred dollars now will save you that money down the road." (His words etched in my memory.) AND ALL would be out-of-pocket costs because "I" or someone "I permitted" caused the situation. I left --- beyond frustrated because I KNEW NO ONE besides THIS Service Advisor's dealership had EVER touched my car.
1/2016: I live outside of town but thought I would give Honolulu VW a try. Justification: Nothing could be worse than dealing with "D" at the other dealership. And that's when I met WAYNE WEISENFLUH, their Service Advisor. Immediately a most pleasant exchange. Actually LISTENED to what I had to say. Told him what "D" had told me - to either pay out-of-pocket now to fix the coolant situation, since it was my fault, or wait and have to pay even more out-of-pocket because of further damage that would be sure to follow. WAYNE WEISENFLUH didn't buy it. He said they'd see what was going on.
And LO and BEHOLD ---->>>> a 100% different story from what "D" fed me!!!
--------->>>>>> What was causing the coolant to look contaminated/murky was NOT my fault --- INSTEAD, it was caused by an INTERNAL LEAK!!! AND ultimately EVERYTHING related to that leak was completely replaced/repaired WITHOUT 1 CENT COST TO ME ---- ALL covered under VW warranty --- and ALL thanks to WAYNE WEISENFLUH.
And so my experience went -- he listened to everything I had questions about -- addressed each and every one, and then some -- explained the befores and the afters -- and did so graciously and knowledgeably. Perfect combination. One that will keep my family and me going back to HONOLULU VW.

Overall good experience. Bought a 2012 GTI pretty easy process. They made sure I understood everything. They told my I should sell my old car myself even though it didn't benefit them. There was a lot of waiting for paperwork and what not. Then at the end. The sales man drove my old car home for me. Great experience. Would recommend.

Gave me a great deal on a used car. If you are military and they tell you about a hawaii registration refund after you buy vehicle, they are lying through their teeth (confirmed through DMV). Ask for brian, he will give you an awesome deal!

I have had nothing but outstanding service from Honolulu Volkswagen over the past 2 1/2 years that I ve owned my Golf. My battery needed to be replaced recently. As part of their multi-point check, the technicians identified a slight problem with the ignition assembly and replaced it as a warranty item. I was not aware that it was a problem and was grateful that it was identified while it was still under warranty. This could have been easily overlooked as it was not the issue that I came in for. The service department is thorough and really cares about the owner. I had to have my car towed in. They were able to take care of the problem within hours. That is great service. Service agent Jessica Balles is a real gem. She is professional, efficient, personable and treats you like family. She updated me with what was happening with my car through the day. I feel that service doesn t get better than this.
Beautiful showroom, friendly staff, nice vehicle selection. This dealership though engages in false advertising on a regular basis. On two separate occasions in November I went in on promotions that were posted on their website, and both times, after checking out the vehicles, I was told that the online prices were erroneous and would not be honored. I reached out to Volkswagen USA and this dealership s parent company, Lithuania, to advise them of this unethical practice, and was told that the dealership would contact me to better explain their business practices. They did not follow through with this commitment. Very sketch.
