Nice rooms and ameneties. Problem wit hot water; had to run the shower for several minutes before it got hot. Food at a holiday party was not stellar like I expected. But the hotel was charming and directly across the street from the Long Island Rail Road; made for convenient travel into Manhattan.

Hotel experience...if you still appreciate service and ambience this is for you. We have stayed here for the holidays for almost 15 years....rooms have been renovated, clean and comfy. However, the experience of staying has waned over the years. Reservations , calling hotel, not so helpful, breakfast quality in the main dining room used to be much better....could be because they want you to order from the $30 pp buffet! Used to be decorated for Christmas beautifully, but like most other places, it is bland . I would recommend, but not as wild as I used y be about the hotel.
I put my jewelry on the bathroom shelf before bed. I had a pair of diamond earrings with backs that screw on. We had to leave very early this morning. While putting one earing on (screwing the back on for several rotations), I walked away and started doing something else. And then, we left very quickly. When I got home an hour or so later, and looked in the mirror, I only had one earing on. I called the hotel immediately. Needless to say, it is now gone. Housekeeping could not find my earing. They did find my phone charger though.
Where should I begin. Oh, yes. The WiFi quality sucks in a major way. Considering how expensive it is to stay here, that's a BIG shame and it should be fixed. Second, they sell their water for 5 bucks a bottle, after paying that much for a room, really. Then I go downstairs to eat, and I am welcomed very well and they get me a drink but then I'm literally ignored for the next 30 or so minutes. My food doesn't come out while I watch others who had come in after me get served, then the waiter says my ticket got lost and that's why. But my food doesn't come out until 30 minutes later, and the person who brings it just dumps it infront of me without an apology for it being late. I guess that's what we call New York hospitality. And it didn't help that I was literally the only black person there, other than the waitress who was servng me, so I felt a little singled out and miserable. I would rather stay at the Viana hotel and spa. Once bitten, twice shy. I will not come back to this hotel ever again.
Incredible Sunday brunch. Beautifully prepared and international variety of buffet selections. Staff is warm, friendly, and professional. A great experience.
Food excellent - service is impeccable - i.e., the staff is professional and friendly without crouching down on the floor or trying to get on a first name basis!
Went to the hidden Speakeasy called the Rose room there. Relaxed and Jazzy vibe. Small, but in an intimate sort of way. Nice place to stop at for a drink. You probably won't want to stay long though. It is dark and the menu is limited.
I've never stayed here, I've only been for dinner and brunch and the spa. The spa is a waste of money, I'd never go there again, however it is technically a "red door spa", so I won't take that away from the hotel. Brunch is FANTASTIC, great selection, decent price for what you get--- very large buffet and bottomless brunch beverages. I was very disappointed in the dinner, the lobster was briney and didn't taste fresh at all, the scallops were just okay and the risotto was way too salty, basically inedible. The sides were delicious and so was the dessert, but I wouldn't go back for dinner.
The food is a bit over priced and tastes okay but isnt to die for. What's worse is the pretentious crowd that comes to dine here. I truly feel bad for the staff that work here. Ordered drinks. At dinner they were not made correctly. The 3 stars is for the speakeasy. The Bartenders in there know how to make a drink.
Large rooms. Updated bathroom with waterfall shower head. Upgraded amenities. Mini fridge in the room. Lots of natural sunlight. Picture windows...blackout curtains if you want to sleep. Service was impeccable! There is a fireplace in the lobby with cozy couches. You can dine al fresco. I would definitely stay here again. Tucked away but close to all! Great staff!
The staff was fantastic. The food....breakfast, brunch, lunch, appetizers, dinner and desserts were Delicious and cooked, prepared and decorated with perfection. We were in one of the penthouse suites and it was nice. I was expecting the Wow factor for the penthouse and that I did not receive. Instead it still felt like a business hotel room. Exactly what you need and nothing more. Even the room could have been cleaner and updated to a more modern flare. A bit more romantic and better lighting. The bathroom should always be remolded or corked so that it keeps its appeal of cleanliness and it was not. The baloney did not provided pillows for its chairs and it wasn't clean outside. The birds were able to poop on them as well. The microwave had to be brought to our room and it was clean but very old. House keeping does not clean they straighten up. My toothpaste was still inside the sink when I got back. I was not happy. They also come in twice a day. Different people. I wasn't happy with that either. I was constantly thinking about my belongings. Aside from that the hotel itself is Beautiful, the staff is amazing and I will come back in the future even with there flaws I had an amazing time. Each person knew us by name. That was nice. Enjoy your stay. Oh wait. Toast and tea cost 30 dollars. Read the menu you can get robbed. For 10 more you can get a fantastic meal. Thanks for reading this review. I hope it helps.
Location is great for my needs, close to down town Garden City. Staff have been universally helpful and friendly. Clean rooms, a lot of attention to detail. Some improvements could be made to hvac systems, and plumbing / shower wasn't kept up well in my room at least. My thermostat literally couldn't be read at first, but they had it swapped out by the time I got back.
Very friendly staff and clean rooms. Loved the comfortable bed and spacious room, no where near can beat the room for the price! I will definitely be returning!
The Garden City Hotel still holds it's high standards from the original hotel built back in 1874. The service is unmatched. The rooms have been recently refurbished with modern appointments, yet continues to hold that warmth not seen in hotels in its class. Polo, its in house restaurant lounge, offers excellent choices of steaks as well as other superbly prepared meals. Dining here was a well received experience. Because of its location in the town of Garden City , you can walk a block or two into town for local stores and other restaurants. This hotel I highly recommend
Business hotel in a nice area of town. Everything is clean tidy and well maintained. Rooms are a good size. Ours has two double beds, separate bathroom with bath and shower, storage cupboard with internal light, fridge, safe and a two seat sofa which I think is a fab idea. One slight complaint is that the rooms are a little dark in the evening as the lamps don't quite give out enough light. There is a small pool, gym and what looks to be a beauty salon in the lower lobby. A bar with a club feel can be found in the entrance lobby. It is wood panelled with subdued lighting, sofas, chairs and tables if you wish to eat. There is also an outdoor bar with seating which will be fab in the summer. Unfortunately I'm here in March and it isnt open yet. The hotel is located across the street from the Long Island Rail Road, which runs into Penn station in New York city. The railway being close by isnt noisy or noticeable. Upon arrival we were given complimentary doughnuts and dips in our room for the kids to enjoy and one of the concierge's gifted my kids a colouring book and toy car. Now this was without a doubt excellent customer service and above and beyond. I think I appreciated it more than my kids. Cabin crew for a British airline stay here too if you fancy your chances chatting up a hostie ;) This hotel isnt in Manhatten but I would definitely consider staying here again when visiting the city thanks to the customer service and quality of the hotel.
Attended an event at the Garden City Hotel and the service was impeccable. I drove up to the valet parking and was greeted with a "good morning" and a smile. I walked in and was greeted again. The exterior and interior was so beautiful and architectural done. The wait staff for the event were very good and of course the breakfast was very tasty. The eggs and potatoes was excellent and best I have tasted at an event. I would definitely return not just for an event.
The grounds are beautiful. The room I reserved was not available. I was told when I called earlier this week to ask a question it would not be available, I would receive a call to have my room would be upgraded. That did not happen. So upon arrival I was informed that my room was down graded. I was not informed until my arrival that really dampened my weekend. I am trying to be happy but this is not the room I hoped for.
Amazing experience, we stayed here on our wedding night. The chocolate covered strawberries are out of this world!! We will be back on our first wedding anniversary
The best Sunday Brunch for miles around can be found right at the Garden City Hotel. A festive decor, Christmas Trees, and even angelic voices from Holy Trinity School Chorus serenade guests here. The brunch includes a seafood bar, sushi, omelet station, carving station, and a well-stocked buffet with both got and cold entrees and salads plus a dazzling dessert table. The food is outstanding and most enjoyable. The staff is attentive and provides excellent service.
The New Year's Eve party? Horrific. Cold, low-quality food. Inept bartenders. Over-booked room. A two hour long buffet line during a four hour party. A woman who knew how to use a knife at the meat carving stationed might have helped. It couldn't have been worse.
Nice hotel. Great bed and pillows. Wait staff in restaurant was irritated that we came in for breakfast 20 mins before they were due to switch to lunch.
It's a really nice hotel and very clean but one thing I wasn't impressed with was the food I was there for a wedding and I expected really high class meal considering the atmosphere but I was very disappointed
Beautiful property with friendly staff and comfortable rooms. I had a view of the lush trees in front, and dined in the King Bar (was treated to complimentary wine and appetizer since it was my birthday!). Would definitely stay here again.
Staff needs professionals. i have been asked to take branch because they were cleaning my room . Front desk bring me to eat there. As soon i had food on the plate and ready to eat.One of the server came told me this branch is for $150 dollars.I left my plate and went to my car beacuse I felt so bad.First front desk ask me to eat its comlimantery.NOW THEY WANT $ 150 I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AND TELL MY FRIENDS ABOUT BAD EXPERIANCE.
Nice vibe and clean rooms. Small things need fixing/updating but that s the case in every large hotel I suppose. Some front desk staff are friendlier than others.
First, booked using their own online reservation system. Due to a bug in their website, I was booked for the same day instead of my desired date two months later. After some run-around they refused to give a refund because it was less than 24hrs notice (how can you give 24hr notice on a same-day reservation?).
Finally stayed there on my desired date, and found a dated overpriced hotel. They may look upscale and have a nice lobby, but the rooms were old and out of repair. The bathroom doors in multiple rooms wouldn t close, and the windows were crooked, in addition to the dated decor.
