Our room wasn t ready until 6pm (check in is at 4). We asked if we could check out late since we had reservations AT THE HOTEL RESTAURANT for brunch at 11:00- they put us hold for 15 minutes and said the latest we could check out is noon. We ordered a bottle of wine to the room, and they charged a 600% markup on a $20 bottle, for a total of $115. The staff was pretensious and the management was rude. We will not be returning.

Went for Mother's Day Brunch, and if you're like my dad and gonna stuff 200 lobster tail down in an hour and 1/2 this is totally worth it, otherwise, it's THE most expensive omelette you will ever eat. . .

Management is arrogant superficial. Room was promised at 4:00pm check in yet was unable to get into a room till 2:15 hours later At 6:15pm. Room type reserved a month in advance was not honored and a less superior room type was substituted. Not acceptable from a service provided especially one that tries to pass as a superior venue. When I tried to get a meal in the restaurant I was told they were not serving because they had no servers at that time. What - are you serious?

This is the second time I stayed here. The first was time was unimpressive but thought is was just an off day. Make no mistake, two disappointing visits is a trend and a reflection of dismal management. It is obvious that the shortage of qualified help has made its way To the front line of even the so called premium hotels.

Everything was wonderful, except the man that was in charge of the penthouse floor. I had a few friends in lounge area after having a brunch party, tried to embarrass me. By talking rudely about the lounge doors being closed , I was trying not to let other guest hear us laughing, believe me I know how to follow rules but repeating yourself three to four times is much too much. So my guest decided to leave and stay at another hotel. It's a shame one person mess it up for all. Not to mention the money the hotel loss on booking extra rooms. My guest were a group of professionals, so keep in mind your reputation means alot. But for Christina and the gentleman who took care of us in the salt room 5 stars all away ..love their service and personality.....wish I could hirer them for my company...

Very poor service. I understand full heartedly that it s a pandemic, and some amenities like the pool will be closed. That was no problem. While I was booking the reservation, a very polite woman told me that it s just the pool that is inoperable. The gyms, their award winning restaurant, bike rentals, outside bar, and valet parking is still open. I paid 190 a night. I check in and there was no valet, which is fine. I go to check in and I m told that there will be a 25 dollar PER NIGHT fee for amenities.. So I figured, okay I guess that s fine. To later find out there was NO bike rentals, NO functioning WiFi, NO restaurant (this was very upsetting because we were looking forward to the red salt room.) NO vallet, NO bellman, NO outside bar. Which, why am I m paying the amenities fee then? I got to my room and the sheet covers were not fully on the bed, expired water bottles, 3rd floor wreaked of marijuana, just an absolute horrible experience.

This review also could have been completely different if the hotel manager was a little more sympathetic. We are not free loaders. We just want to get what we paid for. And for the hallway to not smell, considering it is not a smoking hotel. We have someone who works in the hospital with us, and we truly wanted just a peaceful staycation getaway. The Front Desk Manager responded to our complaints with Well I m sorry but usually our rooms are 699 so it s a lot cheaper during this time . Okay but I still paid 190, which with taxes and all the extra fees shoved down our throats came out to 580 for two nights. Which I m not too sure why he would respond that way considering I have absolutely no problem paying my full rate. But when everything goes wrong, I would expect a different response. I work in the Hospitality field, and I would have at least tried to make my guests stay a little better. He did not care what s so ever. I m not sure why this is a 4 star hotel. It s pretty, but if you re used to 4 star, luxury. This is not it.

Came here for a christening and although the food was surprisingly good I had on at the filet minion and it was cooked perfectly then yorkie were OK that with far too little in a plate from average human being to take seriously and the salad was very tasty I just wish there could have been better dinner rolls my staff waiters were on top and really cared that I was accommodated but I will say that I was slightly surprised that this beautiful hotel has such an outdated banquet Room I'm sure they are making money as the parking lot was packed so I don't see why anything in this establishment is of lower value and last management does not feel they should spend any money and they are wrong those rooms need to be updated every 3 years

I wanted to have a nice place to have a mini vacay not too far from home and I believe this is the best place possible! The staff made me feel very comfortable and kept my room clean every day. If anyone in the area needs to get a nice place for your visiting family a place to stay I would highly recommend setting them up here.

One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. All the staff were very professional and friendly. Excellent customer service from all employees. Food was top notch. I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know.

The valets bellhops and waiters are very courteous friendly and proactive love the service the front desk on the other hand is combative and abusive to say the least and room service is almost non-existent I asked for a sundry item and it took repeated calls and over one hour to get a simple item delivered to the room when I went to check out and asked for a late check-out just 1 hour additional from 11 till 12 I was told absolutely not and if I insisted on a 12 check out that I would be charged

Since the check in time is 3 that would have given them three hours to turn one room but they insisted that was the policy it's as if service and return business is not on their radar whatsoever I am a member of the Waldorf Astoria and they regulate will give you a 1 if not at 2:30 check out without any arguments whatsoever because they care about their customers time for this hotel to do the same

Love this hotel! Rooms are neat, clean with several complimentary amenities. Restaurant, King bar, patio and Rose rooms are all very attractive. Amazing food and fantastic service! We will definitely be back here next time visiting Long Island!

Full service hotel that is really only full service in telling guests how awesome they are. Check in was delayed by over an hour for most of a wedding party. Late check out was granted to several of their airline guests but denied to just a few of the wedding party that had occupied more than 50% of their hotel. Don't stay here.

Every Christmas for 8 years straight I have gone to the garden city Christmas brunch. I love the buffet. They have chocolate fountains and fresh seafood especially lobster. And unlimited champagne and mimosa. The price is a little expensive but the quality of the food totally makes the price worth it

Went to a wedding this past weekend..... the wedding was great, food was great, etc.

During cocktail hour I was taking a picture and put my card down and turned my back and my card was taken with the couples wedding programs. I immediately went up to the staff to get help. The staff directed me to the maitre d who was obviously busy, but not helpful towards finding out what happened to my gift. He had a radio in which he said " did anyone find a card" and within 2-3 seconds said no one touched it and we didn't find anything" and walked away. A few other staff members saw that I was upset and tried to ask what happened, but my card was not found and no one helped to figure out what happened. I expected that maybe someone could have spoken to all employees/looked at a camera if there was one there which I would expect there to be to help me. My mistake was having cash in the envelope, but I had to be embarrassed when my friend didn't receive a gift from me and then I chose to re-gift her because it was the right thing to do. Next time there should be more help to figure out who took the gift and also whoever did should be fired. This is unacceptable at this type of event or this hotel. Be careful!

Staying at the Garden City hotel was an absolute pleasure! The service is exceptional from the minute you pull up to the valet to when you check out and get back in your car. The rooms are spacious and beds are very comfortable.

It was a beautiful event and the staff were professional, helpful and amazing. The food was fantastic and the service was great. There is no doubt that I would have another event here in a heartbeat. Everything was perfect and just as they said it would be. I love the venue because the lobby and hotel is beautiful, clean and just a great place to be. The valet and hotel staff were also top notch helping us bring gifts and letting us load the cars in the front of the hotel. Also helped us carry everything outside and letting us use carts so we didn't have to make a million trips. Loved it!!!!!

The hotel is really beautiful, very luxurious, excellent location, walk-able to Garden City restaurants and shops. The best part about the hotel is the staff. Christina at the front desk was excellent Emilis at the Kings Bar was very nice, great service, tasty cocktails. Can't wait to go again :-)

Nice hotel with good facilities. The concierge staff are very friendly and helpful. Stayed here numerous times and enjoyed it each time. The summertime patio bar is a great ending to a long day in the office. Close to the local shops and restaurants.

Excellent hotel and services. Like their warm welcome when and where you go. King bar serve delicious food too. First wanna visit the restaurant, however we forgot to make reservation and get served at the bar right next door inside the hotel. Our room is where located facing Long Island, good view at day time. We have an under 2 year old, when making reservation they ask if we want them to set up a crib for the baby. It s a crib not pack n play, they also provided cleaned covers, but I m picky so brought our own covers. Baby loves the environment too. Do not take that many pictures. Do recommended!!!

UPDATE: Apparently the $400 is not employee theft, but instead is utterly incompetent billing management (see the manager's comment either below, or on Yelp, which should speak for itself), and was charged without notification or my consent by the check-in process.

Please note that, as I described in my original review, no one ever a) told me that my card would be charged; b) mentioned that my card had been charged; or c) was initially able to explain to me what the charge was for when I asked. After sitting for 24 hours with an unauthorized charge, I called to ask front desk employees about it, and they a) had no idea what it was, and also b) failed to find a manager to explain it to me. Please also note that management failed to respond until I posted this review, and another on Yelp.

So hurrah! Not theft -- just an unauthorized charge that the hotel never received my consent for or told me about, and a management team genuinely disinterested in responding to concerns. I'll update my reviews to 2 stars accordingly.

---- Original review, edited to remove suggestions of employee misbehavior -------

Hotel stole $400 from me during a power outage. My husband and I arrived around 9 pm on July 22 after making and paying for a reservation online, but the front desk wasn't able to check us in because they'd been experiencing power outages and their system was down. No big deal -- they gave us some cards for free drinks at the bar and told us they'd come get us when our room was ready -- but they took my ID and debit card, ostensibly to get me checked in when the system came back up.<br/>Eventually, someone came and got us, returned these, and told us that we could go ahead to a room. We had an uneventful night -- after a long drive from western New York, we were pooped. We did not order any meals, touch the minibar, have any spa treatments, etc etc. When we checked out at 9 the next morning, we were told that the system was still down so they couldn't print a receipt, but that we were good to go.<br/>We got in our car and left, and a few hours later, I got a text from my bank of a suspicious charge on my account. The Garden City Hotel had charged me $400 - no receipt available, no authorization given. I immediately reported it as fraud to my bank, but since the investigation could take up to 10 days, thought I'd also call to try to see if this was an error the hotel could correct. I spoke to one particularly rude front desk person who told me no managers were available and their system was still down -- then put me in a hold loop for 20 minutes. I called again and asked to speak to Billing + Accounts, only to be told they also weren't there?? I spoke to a different staff person who promised to send an urgent email on my behalf -- I am still waiting to receive a response -- and claimed to leave a message for management. I still (two days later) have not received a call back. The money is still missing from my account, and my next step will be filing a police report for theft.<br/>Either this hotel is engaging in some grossly incompetent billing management, or something else. Either way, the fact that I am missing $400, management refuses to call me back, and now the police have to get involved is enough for me to strongly recommend that no one stay in this hotel, ever.

We were so well taken care of by the staff at the hotel. They made everything extremely comfortable and easy for us. We had absolutely no issues and loved our stay. We stayed here for a wedding and the ceremony and reception halls we're gorgeous and the food was great. Definitely would stay here again!

The service here is terrible. They make you feel like you should be privileged to stay at their business. No help from management and there s zero communication between their daytime crew and night time staff.

What a wonderful place for a Christmas party! The space was perfect for a large group and adding a dance floor was perfect. The food was as wonderful as always and the staff is nothing short of lovely.

Went to the NYE party and it was HORRIBLE!! We paid around 175$ a person and would like our money back. They overpacked over 200 people in a small room and put us in a crowded table of 10 fit for around 8. Buffet lines were ridiculously long. They called us up by table like we were in grade school. My table wasn t called for 90 min. Food wasn t good. Prime rib was fatty and only raw. Spare ribs were cold. Pork buns had no pork. Service was terrible. No one came to take plates away or refill water. When going to the bar, they told us they ran out of water!!! Dance floor was too small to dance since everyone was lined up for food there. DJ was horrible and did not play any fun party songs. We keep trying to contact management and they couldn t careless about us and robbed us of our money !!! We planned to go to the brunch this week but will go elsewhere after this experience.
