My kids and I came here. They picked Crepe Expectations, Chocolate City and I had Iron Lion Zion. The food was good and the kids and I enjoyed it. It would have been a nice touch if someone had assisted bringing four plates of food to the table, but not a huge deal.

Called ahead to ask if there was a wait and whoever answered the phone didn t say hello or announce the restaurant name. I thought I called the wrong number, but it was the one listed here. They were totally rude and I thought I was being punked. They said there was no wait. I arrived 20 minutes later to them telling me there was a 20 minute wait. Okay, cool, no biggie. I waited patiently with a group of 4. Meanwhile, they sat 2 tables ahead of us who arrived after us, offered them
menus and the option to order ahead, which no one offered to us. Upon seating, we ordered online (COVID) $98 worth of food, and half of it was forgotten. I walked back up to the counter with my receipt and was ignored for another 7 minutes and when I did receive help, the woman was rude. Finally received all of our food only to find a hair deep fried in the chicken tenders. I didn t even want to bother waiting another 7+ minutes waiting to be acknowledged at the counter. I am a waitress. I know what it is like to be busy and make mistakes, but all of the orders are done online, no one is serving tables, and it isn t even busy in here. Definitely need major work in the customer service department. I used to love this place!!!

The atmosphere was not what I expected - you order at a counter and get your food yourself when it's done. Employees were super friendly even for a busy Friday night. The tables were a little on the rough side, but I thought the food and unique menu made up for it.

Ooooooooooo my HEAVENS. CHICKEN WINGS THAT ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE CHICKEN WINGS. THE TASTE IS SEASONED WITH PRECISION WITH MATCHING TASTE BUDS. THEY'RE ALL HAPPY INSIDE. DEFINITELY WILL RETURN FOR THE BANANA BATTER WITH BLUE BERRIES NEXT TIME

The stuff that dreams are made of. My daughter wants to move to Syracuse NY because of this restaurant. I don't know if it is that good, but we will visit every time we are through this way!

Had a yummy buckwheat (READ: GF) waffle with bananas, blueberries, and strawberries - the Iron Lion Zion. So very good. Had it with a side of their tofu - splendid with a lovely hard cider. Absolutely perfect dinner.

Coolest experience of eating I've had yet! A crazy combination of the best waffle dishes ever! The atmosphere is very cozy and delightful. Stop in and see all these combinations because they have plenty!

I don t like it the environment setting. You walk in, order, seat yourself, wait for the buzzer to beap, go back to the counter to get your food, then eat.
The food was tasty, I love crunch but it was a little bit too crunchy. They have a lot of options and flavors. They also have this good sauce which I think is a mix of syrup and Tabasco.
Oh and the water is not on top, it s probably from the faucet just in a fancy container with ice.

My son absolutely loved his Chocolate Chip waffle and it was very big. My breakfast was ok, the home fries were the real stand out. My only complaint would be is that the waffles aren't toasted, which makes them tastes spongey.

I had the Chicken n waffles, and the buckwheat waffle with blueberries, strawberries, and blueberries.
The only negatives are that they don't have a bathroom for public use so I had to go to another restaurant, buy something, and use it before returning to Funk.
The other thing is that they have a bar but you still have to order at the front for beer. When there is a register at the bar. Makes no sense.
To the owner, there was a sign on the door and I was told to go elsewhere for the restroom. And I was also instructed that I couldn't order from the bar. I went from the bar where my glass was poured, to the register where I payed, then had to walk back to the bar.

I went in not expecting much; how good could waffles be? It turns out they can be excellent. We also got some non-waffle sandwiches that were great as well. I like that the live music is in a separate area so that it isn't too loud in the dining area.

We went here because of Diners Drive-ins and Dives - Guy did a nice piece on it so we gave it a try. The place was clean with nice art on the wall. We ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffles were ok. The chicken was awful...Dry, hard and not at all tasty. The ice tea was un-drinkable. Really disappointed. Will not be going to any more DDD recommended places and stopped watching the show. Pity.

My friend and I stopped here while traveling through Syracuse. We had heard about it through Food Network's Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. Well this place was awful. They have dining, but no wait staff. You order at the counter and then pick up your food when the beeper they give you goes off. There is no one that will tell you this important bit of information or signage or anything when you walk in the door. So, when we were spoken to by the counter staff, we decided to seat ourselves and waited. Once we realized what the system was, we placed our order with some young woman with a ton of attitude at the counter. We ordered coffee and some in remarkable and unmemorable specialty waffles. The station to prepare your coffee is in a narrow hallway leading to the bathroom aka busy and not enough room to stand and prepare your coffee AND allow someone to get to the restroom. We walked across the restaraunt back to the table only to discover that the creamer was curdled. My friend went back up to the counter and notified the you woman with attitude who snapped "I just put that out" okay, but not the point. A guy came out and offered new cups of coffee and fresh creamer. So back to the narrow hallway to prepare another cup of coffee. We go back to the table, the beeper goes off, and we are excited to see what FunkNWaffles are all about. Well, the waffles we're at all crisp. They were limp, a little soggy, and a total disappointment. The chicken on the chicken and waffles seemed like just some frozen chicken strips and the bbq sauce that went with it was at best lacking flavor. The other dish was so unremarkable and disappointing I don't even remember what it was called but there were bananas, peanut butter, and honey. It wasn't plated like they were meant to go together. It was a plate with a half cooked waffle (again limp and not crispy) with bananas on top. The honey and peanut butter on the side and not enough of either.
For what you get, service and food, this place is not worth the price. In fact when we left, we weren't sure if we were supposed to bus our own table or not. And for two people to eat breakfast is was at least $25 for what?? Terrible service, unremarkable half cooked food, and attitude?
Yeah, get it together FunkNWaffles you are not as good as your attitude wants us to believe.

Came here for lunch on a snowy day with my co worker. We had waffles with wings and tenders. The chicken was amazing. The waffles were yummy, but I wished they were cooked a tad more, to be golden brown. The special sauce riddled with cinnamon was a surprising treat, and complimented both the chicken and waffles. It was our first of many visits to come.

I had a very small issue , and the owner adam wasted no time and less then 24 hrs later reached out to me and apologized and made it right. Not only did he apologize but told me how he plans to address the issue moving forward. Im glad this was taken care because i have a tone of friends that come here and it truly is a gem in syracuse. Thanks again adam for your humility.

I liked it but I also really like chicken and waffles. Their version comes with boneless chicken and had a really good crisp skin seasoned well. Also the syrup it came with had a little extra kick. The waffle was good but a little on the soggy side. My daughter tried their falafel waffle and it was very good. Really good cocktails too.

Have been here in person before and really enjoyed the ambience and food. Tonight, however, I ordered from Grubhub, received rotten strawberries on my waffle and expected at least an apology. Was just told I'm wrong and won't get a refund. The smoothie and milk shake were fine but I can smell that these strawberries are rotten. I took a bite of the waffle too but it's overdone and cold on arrival. Last time using grubhub and won't ever come here again.

Mostly hippie music that attracts a crowd of the same ilk. Seedy characters often spill out onto the sidewalk, or congregate and pan handle passerby's.

Could be a great place if it was cleaned up a bit and a better variety of acts were booked.

Delicious food! Vegan options. Easy to find. Great music, but that does cost money to get into the music part. Great spot to chill and have some drinks. They have a menu of what bands play when which is awesome. Friendly staff.

Great food, poor service, could not hear inside due to the loud band playing. No place to enjoy the company of those you travel with. Outside seating available, but then you deal with some of Syracuse's more unsavory local clientele.

The food is a nice novelty, don't know if I can say amazing, but definitely worth at least one try.
Service was amazing, pretty slow as it looked quite busy with few workers when I entered, but who was there was super kind. I have speaking problems that cause me to stutter when under stress, and the woman who helped me was very patient and kind to my stuttering mess. She even helped lighten my mood by cracking a joke when giving me my food.
A+ service if only I could remember her name

Way overrated. Foods ok, service is bad. You have to get your own food and our electronic buzzer didn't work. So when I went to check on our order, they tried to tell me order just came up, but the food was cold.

The food is always amazing. Last was a Dead night so we got to listen to the music while we ate. It still gets really loud at the waffle side where you can also order drinks from the bar... Staff is friendly and it's fun to check out the local art while you hang.

Chill place that was featured on Food Network once. The brownie waffle with chicken tender that I got was a bit dry, but once it is drizzled with syrup and house sauce it becomes enjoyable. Waffle is thick and big but the chicken is on the smaller side. They have dining tables on the sidewalk, which is nice if you like eating and people watching on the street. But fighting off bees could be a hassle or an adventure depending on your level of fear for them. I ended up leaving the empty syrup cup on the other side of the table as a decoy.

Great atmosphere, quick service, excellent selection!! Can get a little packed during late breakfast hours, but the line continuously moves as people order. Definitely will return again soon!

Large selection of Waffles and toppings on the Restaurant side and a good selection of local and specialty touring music on the Stage side. Event and bar prices are on the pricey side and service is hipster surly but usually a good group of patrons who enthusistically know and support the talent.

Just the thought of Chicken and Waffles made my wife mouth water. Would you normally think of the two together? ...I'd bet not, but once you've had the pleasure of stopping by Funk'n Waffles you may not be able to get them off your mind. The smooth tones of jazz wafting throughout the place may catch you tapping your toes or humming along. I don't know for sure, but maybe the good music is what takes their good food to the next level...possibly it's the friendly staff? Whatever it is, this place will take an ordinary stop for food and turn it into a vacation away from the regular world. Take time to stop in and see for yourself.

You can thank me later....

The food is so good but the dining area needs a serious renovation and staff care. The floors have leftover food and crumbs from other diners when I went in for late lunch. Also, a lot of the chairs have rips on the cushions... took a few walks around the tables to find chairs that were alright and exchanged them. The tables are dirty too - I wonder when it gets a clean wipe down. I wish the dining area was cared for as much as the restaurant cares about their waffles.

Definitely worth visiting. Its more for hipster college students who are into live music. Waffles are creative and tasty. Service isn't good and the waffles seem to take a while to cook.
