Funk n Waffles Review

Fun and different. You can get traditional waffles or you can go way beyond chicken and waffles into Thanksgiving Day turkey dinner on a waffle.

Really creative waffle dishes and very friendly staff.

The food was absolutely delicious. The overall ambiance is cool and the staff were super friendly. Per the staffs recommendation I got a savory dish which was bacon, brie, basil and marmalade on top of a waffle. It's not something I would think to put together, but dang that dish was delicious.

Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area!

While the concept of supporting local businesses for its ingredients is fine, the service at Funk n Waffles is horrible. The entire concept is backwards. Customers sit at one of the booths, order, and are given a buzzer. Actual food is ready no earlier than 45 minutes later. And the food is really not very good, waffles are over cooked and not very tasty.

I hope that this successful concept restaurant that provides a place to hang out and enjoy live music, adapts to the needs of some of its customers for timely food.

Slow service and needed a cleaning but was good food as well as great asthetic.

Absolutely Amazing! From the food, to the atmosphere... The ambiance was electrical! The Live Music was beyond awesome! A Syracuse Staple if you're into great food, great music and great customer service!

All i have to say is wow ..... we were highly disappointed in the food we got. I ordered just the plain chicken and waffles & one of the funky chicken ... i guess it was depicted to be some kind of wrap? i m not too sure what the point of it is but it was not that good. We placed our curbside order around 10:45 and we waited until about 12:00 to finally get our meal. In which we called as instructed when we got there & the lady on the phone said yea it s not ready yet . We waited all that time to just have a meal full of disappointment. I can say that the syrup was very good. Hopefully next time i visit funk n waffles they can make up for it.

Food is always good, the chips on the side are usually soggy and stale unfortunately.

This place is absolutely amazing. My son and I actually made it a point to stay at a hotel nearby just so we could eat here. The waffles are ridiculously good and creative and the whole vibe is fantastic! The service was spectacular and the owner was attentive and really helpful. I wish we lived closer because we d eat here all the time. Can t recommend it highly enough.

Waffles and live music? Really? Well, we didn't come for the music...it was 9am. We did come for the waffles thought. The location is in the armory square district and the ambience felt sophisticated with a throwback 70s feel to it. The waffles we're good but the coffee was ordinary in my opinion. Perhaps the better coffee bean selection would help. Sorry to sound so blunt but I don't think it was on par with other coffees I've tried. I would definitely come back here someday I'm in the 'cuse area. GO ORANGEMEN!!!

We were in Syracuse for an audition at the university and had lunch here. Fun art (for sale) on the walls, excellent food. We had a mix of sweet and savory choices at our table and all were delicious. Counter service, clean up after yourself. Definitely would recommend.

It was alright. Service is weird think for how much it cost they could bring it to your table. Pretty much fend for yourself.

An unmatched combination of eatery and music venue. The menu is unparalleled and the music selection is always worthwhile.

As good as everyone says it is. Tons of great options of waffles - sweet or savory. I wish we had a bigger group today so that we could try MORE tasty waffles. The highlight of the day was definitely the Brie, Bacon, and Basil waffle. Florentine was good. And banana and Nutella was tasty.
Got some great drinks too.
Wish we could have been here for one of the musical pieces. Maybe another time.

Their waffles and breakfast options are quite good. Not full service so you do have to go up to order and pick up your food but they have some interesting options and their waffles are exceptional.

This place was nice , it just need a more people on the shifts to keep up with the rush of people and help to keep clean

Great vibes, style, service, jams, and amazing food. Vegan options available as well as a 21+ full bar. Definitely recommend a visit to Funk n' Waffles!

I hardly ever write reviews for establishments, but I have such an admiration for funk n waffles that after my visit last night, it left me incredibly disappointed. My husband and I strolled in for a date night around 10:45 last night to grab a bite to eat and quickly made a decision. The cashier took our order and we sat down. She then hollered at us from the counter that because you guys would be closing soon, that our order was going to be packaged to go, (which was completely fine with us.) I clarified with her to be sure that you guys were still closing at midnight and she said yes. When we got our waffles, they were soggy and doughy and just over all poorly made. Which just made it feel like they didn't care to give good service because we came in closer to closing. By the time we ate our food and left, they still had at least 45 minutes before closing. My husband and I still plan on returning but the service during this visit left much to be desired

Pretty good, very expensive. The food was kinda sub par. 2.30 for a "large" lemonade

Well, the bacon was good. I'll give you that. Waffles were cold, eggs were still raw and the service sucks. First and last time coming here.

I went twice thinking that the second time would be better, but I was wrong. The waffles weren't great, and the atmosphere is strange. They don't have name brand soda, and the brand they chose is disgusting.

Hot chocolate is to die for.. quality food but small portion..

Beautiful, small, lively place. Excellent music and great people, only followed by better food!

A fun concept for a food place where I enjoyed a great meal. A few issues hold it back though:
--I went during a live music event, which was totally fine and obviously part of their schtick. But holy h*ll was it loud. Even just trying to order was a chore.
--There doesn't seem to be much of effort being made to keep the tables clean. Everything was at least slightly sticky.
--Whie they do HAVE a solid smattering of vegan/special needs options, most of them aren't actually on the menu. You just have to know about them in advance and ask for them.

Update by request: I visited on 9/22/19 around 3:30. I honestly couldn't say what I ended up getting because I asked for a recommendation and couldn't hear much of what was said. So I just kinda went with it, which worked fine. But I'm reasonably sure that the guy who helped me pointed out that many of the vegan options are not clear from the menu, and since I basically asked about it after reading the menu and not finding much, I do suspect that's the case.

Worst place I ever ate never had chicken and waffles before but I came here and got burnt chicken and some frozen box waffles

Do not eat breakfast here maybe dinner will be okay but do not eat breakfast here terrible quality food and ingredients

Totally delicious waffles (ask for real maple syrup, no extra charge!!!) I got a buckwheat waffle that was light and tasty, covered in amazing fresh fruit. I left feeling great and refreshed, not super heavy like some waffles I've had. Very cool atmosphere, comfortable to come with your family but also had a really great college-y vibe.

Waffles are great but service is SLOW. Not really their fault...too small for the volume of business. Great place if you have 2+ hours to hang.

was visiting syracuse from New York city and happened to stumble upon this place. glad I did! seriously have never had waffles this amazingly good. buttery and soft, not hard or cardboard texture like other places. went here 2 days in a row. was well worth it. when I'm back in syracuse this will be my go to for breakfast.

This is the restaurant where President William Taft was born and raised. Taft not only wrote the constitution and invented pasta, but he was the first mammal to successfully make a waffle using depleted uranium. I love this place because one time ben fell down the stairs and hurt his leg really bad.

Love the unique waffles. Love jive turkey full size is huge! Not too expensive. Could use a bit of cleaning at this location but food still good.

What a great restaurant AND venue! I had the Felafel Waffle with wings and tenders. The Felafel Waffle was very tasty and though the wings and fingers were both good, I think the tenders would win in a fist fight.

The venue was well run, the sound guy was easy to work with and the sound on stage was really clear.

Delicious food and excellent staff. Doesn t feel the cleanest but it s more than passable.

During lockdown, sat in outside seating, ordered online. Incredible fast service to the table, food is astonishingly delicious for decent prices. Chicken and waffles is heart stoppingly good, with the pulled pork with Dino sauce a close second but still better than anything I've had for months.

This was my first time at this location. A but different then the downstairs scene but the live music was good and obviously the waffles! I grabbed the brownie waffle and ice cream this time around. Very good.

Omg I look for any Diner Drive ins and Dives that Guy has been to and I try to good whenever I'm in that town. I have the Jive turkey waffle, same as Guy, and let me tell you nothing short of awesome. Gravy was wonderful. I had a great time and my kids lived it as well. Will definitely dine in again.

Waited for literally 2 hours for our food and when we asked for a refund the customer service wasn't even sorry or apologetic at all.
