Parking was not bad the day after Thanksgiving. The banana bread waffle had a great crisp on the outside but was still fluffy and delicious on the inside. Healthy portions of blueberries, walnuts, powdered sugar, whipped cream, and syrup made for a delicious and surprisingly filling breakfast for just one waffle. It looks like a number of people were doing takeout too. Probably not a good healthy eating stop, but great for breakfast comfort food.
The waffles are unique, but really it wasn't anything that is going to blow your socks off. The inside is very bar-ish. So if your looking for a nicer place to eat this isn't it.
There was a feather in the chicken and hair in my milkeshake also the plastic cups look reused and lastly every thing is really sticky
This place was awesome! The waffles are light and delicious! A great variety of sweet and savoury dishes. Perfect for breakfast and lunch. Evenings look like they could be fun with live music and a good bar. Service was very friendly. Wait in line, order, seat yourself, and get your food. A wide selection of coffees, shakes, etc. Cool place.
Loved the atmosphere and music want to go again so bad. Food is so good and had a very friendly woman take my order. so happy I enjoyed my time there very much.
I've always called this the place "The land of the worlds most mediocre waffles." If I end up eating here I always get a sandwich instead. This is also the only place I've been to in my life where you cant order food at the bar. You have to buy food first and then open a tab causing two separate transactions. It's just horribly inconvenient.
OMG this place is what it is like on triple D.... Guy did not lie and I cosign this place.
Loved the Big Takeover! Sophistafunk had a nice groove! Sound was great. Only drawback is the cramped spacing trying to get to the bar and restrooms when it is busy.
Waffles. Need I say more? Leslie Knope would approve.
Lives up to the hype from diners drive ins and dives. Delicous food the chicken parm waffle was incredible with some amazing chicken. And the Thanksgiving waffle was made out of the best stuffing I've ever had.
My group and I had the falafel waffle, banana bread waffle with bananas and Nutella, and the buttermilk waffle with bbq pork and they all were amazing! The live music was really nice, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I look forward to going back next time I'm in the area!
Very different, but very nice. The people was very nice and catering.
The staff at Funk are the best. I can always count on them to make my day better. Also the music rocks! Holy moly!
Definitely try the Bootsy Brunch and the Bacon, Brie, and Basil!
First time here. If I could give less than 1 star I would. The buttermilk waffle was rubbery and gross. Our second order of a tuna melt was forgotten about, and we waited over a half hour for it, and then realized they didn t even make it. We then waited another 15 minutes for a tuna melt that didn t even have melted cheese. Terrible experience and poorly managed service.
Slightly different vibe than the old one but still a great place. Great and interesting food and good music and lots of live acts. A good place to grab a drink, a wierd waffle, and hang out for awhile listening to music. Also good on supporting other local businesses as well as the local music and art scene.
I mean, the name itself basically sums it up. Havent been here for a show yet, but the waffles are incredible and there are a ton of variations to choose from.
Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun. Do it up.
The food was truly original and unique, great flavors and combinations. The background music was old school funk (loved it), and the atmosphere had a really funky vibe also. Not very easy to get to but definitely worth the trip, highly recommend it!
One of my favorite restaurants in Syracuse. Make sure you go when there's a show. The atmosphere is exhilarating and the staff is wicked nice. The waffles are excuisite. My favorite is the falafel waffle.
Food was good, building and seating wasn't fantastic. Filthy trash cans, tight tables.
I'll start by saying that this is a pandemic review. That being said the system they have developed to reduce contact has also reduced quality and made it take a long time.
We waited 20 minutes for a table before going back to the desk to see my name had been crossed out without calling me. They seated me next.
You have to order and pay via takeout and pick it up at a window even for dine in. It is a cumbersome interface but it does the job. I ordered 2 coffees and breakfasts. After 10 minutes I went to ask if i could get my coffee and she looked through the stack of drinks to hand me mine which was cold by then. Another 15 minutes later they called my name for food and I went to pick up 2 cold breakfasts on paper plates. Had to go back for syrup that wasn't on the plate with waffles.
I get that doing business in the Pandemic is a big adjustment and deserves some forgiveness. And I do forgive longer wait times. What I cant get around is cold food and disorganized service. If you open to serve your product and your product suffers due to the limitations... either dont open or fix your process. Dont rely on the excuses of the pandemic.
The half waffle and 3 chicken tenders was just about the perfect size serving. The chicken was crisp outside and tender inside and nicely flavoured. The waffle was fluffy and the syrup sweet and spicy. I enjoyed my quick meal there!
The waffles and drinks are always delicious. The only downside for us is the loud music but that's to be expected. If loud live music and waffles is your thing, this is the scene for you.
One if the best places for music! Plus delicious waffles. Mmmmmm
Delicious waffle dishes, cool atmosphere, and live music make this spot awesome.
Saw this restaurant on Food Network DDD a while back and we so happen to be in the area from out of state and decided to try it. Best chicken and waffles I've had and customer service was superb. Highly recommend and that James Brownie was ridiculously good .
I have always loved it here. Ever since they held a ska prom. Awesome music and food. The best is Gouda and chive. The owner really goes out of their way to help resolve anything that needs to be fixed.
I was worried everything would be too sweet but all the savory options are yummy!
Amazing waffles! Everyone is super nice, a little confusing as to where you pick up your silverware and there are condiments on the bar table.
The food is good, but I have to be honest, I don't normally come here to eat. They have some good music events here, kinda on the small scale. More local stuff. Open Jazz on Sundays. It's nice to come here listen to music and have a beer and a unique waffle. They are a Syracuse staple for a reason. It's a neat place.
Great idea, great music and most importantly great food!
The chicken tenders from the Chicken & Waffles item did not look especially appetizing, but boy was it tasty. Also tried the "James Brownie" chocolate brownie waffle, which was pretty good. I wouldn't say expect a brownie (because, it is a waffle), but it was pretty rich and chocolatey.
My first order was Jive Turkey - I was expecting garlic mashed potatoes and ended up with cubed potatoes - the waffle was extremely hard and not that great. The turkey is what saved this dish and earned the rating. Not happy.
Food is way over priced, but if you got it like that not a bad place for a date.
Good food. I really enjoyed the food. Sometimes the service is a little slow. The lives bands are great
Loved the decor. We ate inside and I think our food had been sitting because it took a while and then came out cold. Despite that I really enjoyed the menu and food. The Brie waffle was very different in a great way. The potato waffle was delicious.
This place was great. It was very busy but food came out fast and it was delicious.
The house syrup is so good. The food was fresh and delicious.
Food great, staff somwtimes friendly depends who is attenting.
Food is always great, and if there is a live band when you come you can still hear it even if you are not at the concert.
The classic savory chicken and waffles can't be beat
They need real maple syrup real bad. Canada isn't far away enough for there to be any excuse for "pancake syrup".
Best waffle house in town the purple haze tea is my most recommend I'm a huge fan of the jive turkey waffle it's so filling you leave thinking you've eaten a Thanksgiving dinner and the chicken tenders don't get me started on chicken tenders I don't know what is in the recipe for these heaven sent glorious chicken tenders but I love them dip them in your disco fries which is also a great time to appreciate potatoes cover in more potatoes and gravy and bacon!
Called restaurant to explain to them the horrible burnt chicken tenders. The rude manager wasn't concerned with food quality ck. Tried to blame grub hub. They don't cook funk n waffles food they just delivered. was only concerned with if I wanted a refund or not and as I told her,I was concerned with the quality of the food received not a refund. Gross customer service... Worst person I have ever spoken to in the service business.
Jive turkey is genius. Rock n roll & waffles is a marriage made in heaven. We stopped here specifically on our way back from up North. Totally worth it.
This place is so cool. We both enjoyed our lunch. (Chicken and waffles, and a waffle and bacon, and egg sandwich) Their coffee and lemonade was made just right. ( I always have trouble with the lemonade taste. This one was very tasty) We are already planning a return visit.
We don't even live here and travel in to get chicken and waffles every year! This place is fantastic.
Best music venue in Syracuse! Live music 7 nights a week and the food is slamming! Great bar with tons of options!
Food was ok, service sucked. Asked for a Monte Cristo with a whole waffle. Got a half of a plain buttermilk waffle. Told the cashier twice. Not sure where we went wrong.
Let's just say they know their waffles. Live music. What more can you ask for.
Unique, trendy food choices. Self serve, no server. Can get pricey for waffles
This place is cool for college kids looking for the hot spots. If you're looking for good food, variety, a homey atmosphere, or a place to socialize, this is not the place to go. It has a select hipster niche, and if you are not part of it, you are best finding the next social media listing.
Get food, great price. This place is always full for a reason!
If you like music and waffles, this is your place. Staff is super friendly to boot. One suggestion, the music playing in the restaurant is great, Funk 'n Waffles should have a public Spotify playlist.
Food was nothing special. Music if you could call it that was terrible
Great variety and very cool atmosphere. It could get a little crowded
Fun concept but they are soo busy that you wait in line forever, The food comes out rushed, overcooked, sometimes cold. it's counter service also, so if you want to add on after you have to go get back in line... Just not what we were hoping for. Cool venue though!
Entertainment is just as excellent as the friendly food.
Awesome waffles. I had the bacon and peanut butter one. Yummy. One suggestion would be cornbread waffles.
Came here because everyone in town raved about it. Was disappointed by taste, amount, and quality. Also staff was rude. Don't see what all the hype is about !
