Small in size, big on customer service! And lots of fortune cookies to choose from. If you're going to Chinatown, really need to check it out! No pictures allowed of the inside; well, they want .50 a picture. But still a very fun stop, especially for the kids. Located in a little alley named Ross.

Hot samples are so yummy! The simplicity of the shop is amazing to see the amount they are able to produce. If you want a unique take home gift..customize a giant fortune cookie or buy a bag of X rated fortune cookies.

China Town itself is full of rude locals, smelly streets, over crowded atmosphere and slow service. This place is not an exception but is worth the visit. Bought so many cookies and hung in the alley just enjoying the sweet smell and appreciating the work the ladies put in to making all the cookies by hand.

Hit this spot and then head back to the beaches.

Neat but brief. Basically just a storefront with a few cookie machines and a few shelves of cookies. You can write your own message and have them put it on a cookie, and they have flavors and other fortune cookie varieties.

If you're in Chinatown it's worth stopping by but don't make the trip JUST to see this place

Fascinating process of Chinese Fortune Cookie making in Ross Alley. This mini factory has been here as long as anyone can recall. (Bring a dollar to tip if you'd like to take a picture inside.)

In a corner of Chinatown is a must for those who love fortune cookies and not. It's a tiny little shop, it creates a row outside to enter but it's worth it because you can see how fortune cookies are made, but above all because you can buy huge packets of delicious biscuits that have nothing to do with those that offer to Asian restaurants in Italy!

This place is a must-see in SF. Hidden away in a tiny alley in China-town, this marvelous place serves up a favorite Chinese treat. Always hand-shaped to perfection.

I can't imagine doing what they do all day long but stop by and watch them work their magic - bring a camera and make sure to leave a dollar or two and pickup a large bag of flat (unfolded) cookies. The best.

A small fortune cookie making factory, it takes a lot of money to make a photo, or you can make your own biscuits, but the space is really too small, the feeling of crowding people....some uncomfortable.

I wish I could give zero or negative stars!

I wish I could give zero or negative stars!

I like to write reviews for quite a lot of businesses and almost always the reviews are 5 stars and positive, but I have to write a review for the Fortune Cookie Factory and state what I saw and witnessed with my eyes and ears.

First of all...the owner is the rudest and most disrespectful man I have ever met! He treats his workers like they are his slaves. His workers are elderly Asian women and from what I witnessed, he has no respect for them. The story behind this my daughter did not put her name on the box for her fortune cookie (what you have to do when you make your own) and he started yelling at the elderly woman who worked for him in his language. My daughter said, Sir, you shouldn t yell at her, It was my mistake I didn t write my name on the box. At this point, he did not know she was my daughter because we do have the same skin color.

He then thought he could preceded to raise his voice at my daughter and tell her to mind her own business. He said they were his workers, not hers. He must have thought she was young, but she is 25 and we were there with teachers in SF for a workshop, we both are teachers.

WOW, just wow! His display of total disrespect to women in just a couple minutes leads me to know that he believes women of all ages and races are below him. I was very upset with him and showed it. He did not care or feel remorse what he did because he told us to move on or leave because he had a long line of customers behind us.

I highly discourage having a fortune cookie experience at this business until the owner learns compassion, respect for women, elders, and everyone from all walks of life!

Made real time in front of you it is a great opportunity to see and show your kids how things are done. Also, I prefer these better than "el bulko" reaturant wrapped fortune cookies. Easy enough visit while in Chi-town.

A place to explore if you are in SF - this is where fortune cookies come from. You can walk in and taste the fortune cookies that are "wrong (as in - they didn't make it to the box). You can also make your own fortune cookie by writing a personalised message inside it. Really cool place in Chinatown.

This fortune cookie factory is located in a small side street in China Town, where 2 or 3 old women bake and fold the cookies by hand. You can also shop for different varieties and take pictures ($ 0.5). Somehow just belongs to a visit to SF!

Quiet & polite young lady, invited us to try the cookie before she shaped it, it was delicious! Various flavours & toppings to choose from, you can even personalise your own fortune cookies should you wish! Felt humbled by all whom worked there, so paid them a tip, as my wife asked for a photo!

Cool little place to check out. I was on vacation in San Francisco and the internets told me you have to take a tour here if you're in town. While I wouldn't describe this as a "tour", it was definitely neat to see. There are people there making the cookies as you walk through, the decor is filled traditional Chinese statues and wall hangings. Maybe a tad expensive to buy cookies there, I paid $11.50 for a dozen chocolate covered fortune cookies, but where else can you find fresh fortune cookies? They also ask for a $0.50 donation to take pictures, which I gladly paid.

Great place to visit if you're already in Chinatown, but don't make this the point of your trip. It's really just a few minute visit. However, every time we visit the area we pick up a couple bags of the large flat cookies (currently $4.25 each). We have been visiting here for over 10 years and have never had a bad experience. Workers are focused on their job and don't interact with you much, if at all. But you get to see the simple process, enjoy the aroma of the the fresh fortune cookies, and move on to other things. And, it's free to visit.

It's a tiny little place where you can buy fortune cookies and watch the workers make them! It's pretty cool. they also let you write your own fortunes and the lady will make it right there in a few seconds. they also have different cookie flavors! I recommend the strawberry.

Tucked in an alley in the largest China towns in America, Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory is a place to go and see at least once if you're a local or are just visiting San Francisco. You can get up and close to the machine and little old lady that makes these little fortunes which come in regular or chocolate flavored. Don't bother taking out your smart phone or camera out unless you're ready to provide a small donation to the factory.

Loved this place. I ve been eating fortune cookies for a while now at different restaurants. However, never realized how it was made and it was an absolute delight visiting place to see it in person. It tastes great and you can buy varieties of different flavors. Must do if you visit SF.

Overrated! I waited close to 20 minutes only to spend 30 seconds at the front of the line. Didn't have a chance to watch the process of how fortune cookies are made as I was rushed through.

Expect a long line. It is worth the wait. You can create your own fortune cookie fortunes and hand it to the lady making the cookies. She will place it in the fortune cookie for you. Obviously at a price but very cool to watch how it is done. Great taste as well.
