Trying the fortune cookies here taught me one thing, I have been eating stale ones all my life. We watched them make them and had them still warm.
Chinese bakery specializes in handmade fortune cookies made in full view of the customers. Warm and delicious.
Small place, we only went to buy fortune cookies. And the person who did our transaction speaks English.
Very small place with no room to move about. Very unfriendly lady at door who is cashier... assuming maybe owner (young lady). Charges 50 cents to take photo inside, yes, you read that correctly...with your own phone or camera. If not for the friendly old lady making the fortune cookies and the taste of the cookies... I'd give lowest star. Never coming again.
Chaotic but good biscuits. My wife left Italy with the idea of going to buy them.
Tiny shop in a hidden away alley. Sells hand make fortune cookies. A little bit disappointed to its shop size.
Cute, but small bakery / store. They do give you warm cookies fresh off of the line if you purchase any other cookies. If you take pictures, they do request a $1 tip. The location is in an alley off of the main streets, so it may be a little difficult to track down. The attendant and people folding the dough as it came off of the hot press were very courteous and open to questions as far as the process of making the cookies as well as the final products and distribution of the fortune cookies. They do have a selection of either average fortunes printed on paper in the inside, or adult only fortunes printed on the paper on the inside of the cookies, so be sure not to purchase the adult themed cookies if you have young people that are going to be consuming the cookies and reading the fortunes. This is a stop that is well worth it if you are in Chinatown in the San Francisco area. The warm cookies that they hand you fresh off the line are alone worth the trip. Overall, very small sight to see, but they do produce a delicious cookie with fun and interesting fortunes, either in the adult or family friendly version. Again, well worth the trip.
All I can say is, this place smells divine! I had no idea how fortune cookies were made until I walked into this hidden factory and saw a little women stooped over in a chair, carefully and expertly molding the fresh, warm, biscuit flats into perfectly folded fortune cookies. You pay like 50 cents (?) to take a photo and they end up also giving you a bunch of flat cookies and fortune cookies for free. Lol, I also bought a jumbo bag of assorted fortune cookies (chocolate, almond, regular) for like $4 and had no problem gobbling them up during the remainder of my trip. If you're in the area, highly recommend you check this place out!
Clearly a touristy stop, so u know what u r getting into.
Run, don't walk to this amazing place. And but alllll the cookies. They're so good!
We bought the biggest fortune cookie here - and it gave birth to little ones!
The best fortune cookies ever! The origin of the cookie! Delicious and hidden, like a secret treasure!
A cookie of fortune cookies in the city center! The workers are visible and can taste and make photos. Great I m happy
Relatively small space, we had a hard time to fine the place. People get a free sample there.
Last place fortune cookies are made by hand. Consider yourself lucky when you find yourself here!
Best fortune cookies ever! Hot out of oven and owner hands out free samples!! Worth the stop!
Fun place to check out. Kids loved getting the flat cookies
Cool place where fortune cookie are made. You can also buy the cookie here.
This is a little fortune Cookie factory in Ross Alley in San Francisco China town. If you are visiting china town worth visiting this place. place attracts quite a few visitors. They allow 10 people at a time, when it gets busy. Fresh cookies are definitely tastier. Place is filled with pictures of many celebrities who have visited this place. Very impressive to watch how they make fortune cookies with hand.
I liked it more before it became famous from some TV show. Still fun but line can be bad at times. Still worth going to see and get cookies
Fun place in Chinatown, can purchase fortune cookies and see them being made.
Great place to visit. Write your own fortune cookie. Get a sample of their dirty ones :-)
I don t know what they do different. Normally I m not a huge fortune cookie fan, but the cookies made by the ladies here are fantastic. It s very cool to see them made. Probably my favorite thing in Chinatown
I didn't have to wait long to get to see the cookies being made, but it's an active factory, so I barely got to look. They keep the line moving! I liked that they gave you one right off the line! And that they had flavors to buy. It was a fun stop. I'm glad I went. I just wish I could have looked around a little more.
Still a hands on process for making fortune cookies. Fresh cookies are so good.
Fantastic, historic and interesting place to visit.
Little garage size place. Samples, and good prices fortune cookies!
Definitely worth a visit near Chinatown !! You also get free samples :)
You can get fresh cookies but not much of a factory or tour. Was expecting more and got less.
The atmosphere is lacking but the cookies are amazing, bought a bag of cookie disks and they were AMAZING!
My kids and I had more fun searching thru Chinatown than actually being here. The people were unfriendly.
It awesome to see these ladies making fortune cookies with their own hand in an automatized fabrication time. The chocolate fortune cookies were not that good, the regular ones were...well, regular fortune cookies. I think the prices are a little high because of the attention it draws
Too touristic! Shame they are expecting for money if I take a photo. If you really want a fortune cookie buy a bag and enjoy!
Super cute authentic spot. Very small though, try a sample!
This was a super quaint, fun spot. As real as it gets with great flavors such as greentree tea and strawberry. They also have chocolate dipped. If you are walking down the alley and think you missed it just keep going to the end. You haven't missed it. There's no sign but the smell will attract you. Free samples, but your own fortune in a cookie or buy a giant fortune cookie.
This is the place!
A tourist and local hot spot
You can watch them make fortune cookies.
You can bring you own fortunes in and have them put in cookies
They have x-rated fortune cookies
Don't forget to leave a $1 tip if you're going to take photos
Came here with no expectations and it was an awesome experience getting to see fortune cookies being made in front of you. We were able to sample fresh cookies and also buy some.
You can watch how the cookies are made or buy some for yourself. Sometimes they pass out free samples. If you wait on line (usually 10-20 minutes) you can write a fortune yourself and they can place it in a cookie for you for a small fee.
good memorable place to visit in city, like a worder in older period
Amazing little place. Just sitting in an ally next to an old school barber shop. Best place to get fortune cookies and cheep as heck ($3-4 a bag). Neat to see them making the cookies. A must see if you go to China Town.
I have been stopping by here for about 27 years, each time I go to Chinatown to pick up fresh made Fortune cookies. Although the appearance of the shop has changed through the years, the absolute quality and taste has stayed perfectly untouched. I really recommend this little piece of history and also suggest a bag each of the regular flavor as well as the chocolate. Most people think of the terrible cellophane wrapped cookie for an ending to a Chinese meal and would just want to skip this gem, but their cookies are on a higher, heavenly plane if you ask me. No comparison and getting to see the cookies being made is the cherry on top of the experience.
Such a cute little spot to check out. Not a huge space but it was fun seeing the fortune cookies being made right in front of you. Not to mention you get a sample to taste!
Basically, you get in the single file line, grab the cookies that you want and pay for them. There's a variety of different flavors and toppings that come prepackaged. You can also create your own custom cookies and box.
Fascinating to watch them actually making the cookies!
My experience here is very well, but more people are listing to can enter and try. All people like the fortunes cookies but where is the best site for buy this type of cookies?
Really think that this is a good place to buy it, but for me was difficult to access to the zone .
But need to tell that people are very nice and effective. :)
In the heart of Chinatown and in a back alley so you could easily miss this place. You wouldn't want to though because it is very interesting to watch them make fortune cookies and purchase a bag.
Neat place that shows how fortune cookies are made. The are produced right in front of you. If you are in the neighborhood, this is worth a quick stop to check it out. I would have included a picture, but it would have cost me 50 cents haha..
A bit crowded when I got there but so cute. You can get a personalized fortune and it's only $0.50 to take a photo with the workers. The treats were tasty too!
Loved the concept of fortune paper in every cookie.
Very characteristic, with the Chinese ladies who make biscuits by hand ... among other things very very good
Never knew how good fresh from the oven fortune cookies can be.
For a neat SF Chinatown experience, don t miss this little fortune cookie factory. It s in an alley so don t miss it walking down the street. Small space inside but you actually see how fortune cookies are made. Plus remember to buy some and figure out how to not crush them if you are traveling home!
Went with school field trip. Do go if you enjoy being insulted.
See where all the wisdom of Fortune cookies comes from...
Cute place where you can watch how fortune cookies get made. Lots of different flavors for sale too. #vero #travel #wanderlust
It was fun to watch them use the vintage machines to make the cookies.
Typical place to visit if in the area. The cookies are pretty good too!! Recommended.
Cool place where you can watch them make fortune cookies
So much fun for kids and super friendly people. It's small but worth a quick trip.
Last handmade fortune cookie company in SF. Cookies make nice gifts, they give out Free samples, and the old ladies are sweet. You can also write your own fortune. Cash or check accepted only. Don't be discouraged by the long line, it moves quickly and you can eat dim sum while waiting. ;)
Waited in line to get in which really wasn't worth it. It is super tiny inside and crowded. The fortune cookies looked a lot better than they tasted, bought 1 bag as a souvenir to take back home and realized when getting to the hotel the back was busted at the seam. Stop by if there isn't a line- otherwise skip it!
Visited this on 4th July, so that can be the reason of bad experience. But I expected them to show how fortune cookie is made and let us customize the message in it.
What actually happened was we stood in a long queue for 20 mins and in the end they were just selling the cookies and that too in a hurry. Didn't give any time to decide and choose.
This is an old time favorite. I was shocked at the line out the door on a Saturday. Social media and maps within the Chinatown corridor has changed the walking traffic among the gems in the community. I went back early the next day for my stash of fortune cookies and walked out with a bag of cookies for the trip home and some for friends.
These are freshly made fortune cookies are still my favorite. There are packaged flavored fortune cookies: strawberry, green tea mixed in with their original fortune cookies. And the flat cookies chips in small and large sizes.
It's amazing old school process of making fortune cookies. Tasty and crisp fortune cookies.
A must-stop if in China town. Grab a bag or more of fortune cookie wafers, they're addicting as hell.
Fun for a quick visit when you're in Chinatown. Tour is one room so don't plan on visiting for too long. Make your own fortune cookie
Lovely little shop, the young lady at the cashier has been very friendly and helpful!
