Walk down an ally to get there. It's a very small area they let you see. It's literally right in the doorway. It's interesting to see how the fortune cookies are made. If you're in the area go take a peek.

Loved this place as a kid and still love it as an older gentleman. The folks are really nice in this tiny little spot if you treat them nice back. Definitely a San Francisco Chinatown must do. And the cookies are better than anywhere USA.

Expenditution of fortune cookies. This small and in a narrow alley. Preferably he arrives walking to the place. If you take pictures of the process of making cookies, they charge you for the photos.

Took my niece and nephew here. VERY COOL to see how fortune cookies are made. And we were able to personalize them as well. We liked that it was down a narrow alley!!!! And the fortune cookies are very fresh!!!

Of the most representative places in Chinatown in San Francisco. It is a little hidden but looking well you find it. It's in 56 roll alley. They sell all kinds of fortune cookies. Chocolate and other flavors. In addition to that you can see how they make them and have photos with many personalities. You have to pay 50 cents to take a photo or video.

Long wait to see someone pulling freshly baked fortune cookies coming out of a machine... Upside, it's got history and lots of memorabilia on the walls. Also lots of cookie "flavor" options... who knew???

Really quick experience for a long line...

When we went in there was a variety of fortune cookies, flavored, flat, covered... so much. We saw the ladies making fortune cookies and it was nothing too special. It's defeninatly a tourist trap.

Atleast we can say we went to the golden gate fortune cookie factory!

Long line for some fortune cookies!? The cookies are fine but I wouldn't waste an hour for them. My recommendation is only do it if line is less than ten people.creating a fortune cookie with your own hand written message on a box is a nice option, but once again not worth the wait lol.

Loved our brief stop to see how fortune cookies were made. They offer free samples and make it really easy to make personalized cookies. Make sure to tip the ladies making all of the cookies- they work hard and it's hot in there!

Friendly lady staff. free sample of the cookies. Retro authentic place., Seems to be frozen in time. Can see how they make the cookies. Bought a small packet (12 pcs) - USD2.50. In and out in 5 min though.

This is a fun place to take tourists. They will make fortune cookies in front of you, and if you want a special message in the Fortune Cookie, they will put it in. You can sample their cookies hot. There is usually a line of turists that go out the door, and the area is very small. I would not recommend going there on a regular basis, but when visitors are in town it's a nice place to take them.

It was a little hard to find because it was tucked in an alley. And parking was a joke! But that won't punish the place itself. Everyone was super friendly. We received free cookie coins. We took pictures but they do ask for pay 50 cents. It was so neat to watch!

Was expecting more, it is really just a store with a small area in the back where they make the cookies. I heard they have two locations, maybe the other one is larger? Still, 3 stars because the workers were friendly and the cookies were good.

The homemade flat fortune cookies straight out of the oven are amazing. Way better than normal fortune cookies. This has to be a stop for the flat crisps alone. They really are like nothing else. But make sure to eat them when hot. This place is a must see while in chinatown!!!

I entered the shop and a woman working there smiled at me but didn't tell me anything. I figured I had to take a few steps inside, but then another woman showed up and told me in a very rude way I couldn't go further. She didn't explain anything to me, didn't show me around, but left me there, wandering what I was supposed to do - she didn't even seem to care if I wanted to buy cookies! An uninteresting place managed by very rude people...

this is this little hidden fortune cookie factory. fun fact: fortune cookies
were actually invented in SF, not china! this place is a fun way to see how they
are made, and you can sample a few. you can also write your own fortunes and order
some to be made with them inside! it is on ross alley, right off of jackson street.

This is one of Chinatown's hidden gems! Hot, fresh fortune cookies are better than you could ever imagine. However, like the soup nazi on Seinfeld, take a picture inside and you'll be told "No fortune cookie for you!"

This was a really neat place! It's located in a busy allyway in the China Town area. The admission was free, and the wait wasn't long because the traffic of people kept on flowing. People sort of just walked in, watched the cookies be made, ate some free samples, bought a bag, and left. There was a man who would grab the hot circular fortune cookies off the conveyor belt. He would quickly fold the cookies while inserting the little papers in a matter of seconds! It was definately fun to watch! This was worth the visit!

Smaller then I was thinking but a wonderful place to visit. Go early to beat the rush. You get to see them make the cookies and get a free sample. Very helpful and willing to take photo for you. Good experience.

This is one of my official stops whenever I am showing people around SF Chinatown, great for children and adults alike. I always take any visitors for a brief visit here (~3-10 minutes max). The owner is all about business and charges 25 cents if you want to take photos of the process. Don't worry if you only have large bills, he has lots of change ready. He will also offer you some freshly-made, free samples of unfolded fortune cookies.

It's truly fascinating to watch how quickly and methodically the three expressionless workers process the fortune cookies and interesting to see the dough being baked and molded in the machines. These are probably some of the only fortune cookies that are handmade instead of mass produced. At the same time, this also seems like a fortune cookie sweat shop.

Be careful about lingering too long or staring at a particular product-- you may be started by the owner barking at you asking what you are going to purchase. There is a small selection of different items for sale that are only a couple dollars per bag. You can purchase a variety of regular or chocolate fortune cookies and even "adult" fortune cookies. I usually go for the unfolded ones and munch on them as a snack.

Good and fun place but it was SUPER busy! Next time we will come early before it closes. But it's only something you need to do once....maybe if family comes to visit and we take them here, we recommend coming early to avoid the line.
