Ellis have been great from start to finish. Both the back office team and the loading team who came to the address were professional and responsive. I would recommend Ellis to anyone making a local or international move. They wrere affordable and took great care of us and our belongings.
We had the absolute best experience with Ellis Moving. We had to move during COVID-19 and they were on top of all protocols, called when they were on their way, arrived on time. Their guys even carried our couch up 6 flights of stairs because it didn't fit in the elevator. 100% recommend them and we will be using them for all of our future moves.

Extremely overpriced. You pay them by the hour so they will go as slowly as possible, even to the point of hiding. Then when you pay them their outrageous fee they laugh at you and say you are a sucker.

My experience with this company is awful. I was moving from Burnaby to Nanaimo. The move from my apartment in Burnaby was great. Ellis was going to store my belongings for a few days. They were suppose to be on the 6:20AM ferry which they weren't; apparently some paperwork mix up so they had no reservations as far as BC Ferries were concerned, as I waited and waited, watched the ferry come and go and no movers. I called the office and they had no clue on what was going on. Finally the mover with my belongings called me from the ferry and said he was on his way; he called when he got off the ferry and that was the last time I heard from him for over an hour. I live 5 minutes from the ferry terminal, where did he go with my belongings??? I will never know he never said where he went, he did mention that he got wrong directions but I guess a phone call to me was unnecessary to advise where he was. The men with my belongings never got my new address, I guess Ellis never bothered to take it down when I gave it to them or give to the men who were delivering my belongings. I have let my friends know how unhappy I was, I will never recommend this company. My estimate started between $1,800 to $2,000 when James came to look at my apartment, when I got the written quote it was up past $2,300 and climbing. They have since adjusted my invoice but this was the most stressful experience I have had moving.
First time ever writing a review online, but compelled to given how good they were. We had to do a double move. First move was flawless and on the second move we had Doug, Hammis and Anthony who were all amazing. They were thoughtful, intelligent, well mannered, considerate and professional. This was the second time we experienced Hammis who was particularly awesome. No issues recommending them!

I have moved 4 times in the last 7 seven years and Ellis Moving was the most professional company we have dealt with to date. Everyone on the move team made us feel very comfortable and they knew exactly what they were doing. We had some tough pieces to move (Piano / Large Bed Frame) and the guys did a fantastic job with no damage at all. The best part was how happy the guys were to keep coming back for more. With a big family, we have a lot of stuff and everyone on the crew was so helpful. I found Ellis Moving and Storage to be conscientious, efficient and reasonable for my recent move.
We used Ellis to move our household from Vancouver to the UK, based partly on their excellent reviews and reputation.
Our belongings were treated with care, packed well, and arrived without a scratch, dent, or crack (including a piano, a lot of art, and two large mirrors).
Unfortunately, the administrative organisation left much to be desired.
We mentioned many times this was our first move overseas, and that we'd be relying on Ellis' international expertise to ensure everything was packed and processed correctly. We asked multiple times when packing was happening about the inventory, knowing we would have to provide some detail of our belongings. We were assured they were noting what they needed to.
None of our belongings were inventoried properly while packing - we had boxes labeled and inventoried with nothing more than "misc" or "closet" on the boxes and inventory sheet. This led to a 10-day delay on the UK side while we spent hours going back and forth with our customs broker as UK customs attempted to sort out what exactly we had brought. Even the unpackers (who regularly deal with international moving) were shocked that the shoddy inventory made it through customs at all.
We were also nonchalantly handed an insurance form and customs declaration *after* our entire household was packed (without a useable inventory to refer to) and we had to attempt to recall, from memory, the exact breakdown of our belongings so we could claim damages if there was loss or breakage, and to make an appropriate declaration upon landing.
There was also a 2-week delay on the Canadian side when it came to sending our belongings on their way. Despite having plenty of notice for when our shipment was to leave (Ellis had it in their warehouse for a month), they still cited problems getting a shipping company quote and getting the container on its way. They seemed unconcerned by all of this and brushed us off every time we tried to press for details on the delays.
While I'm pleased our things all arrived in good condition - a testament to the packing job by Ellis' team, I'm still feeling the sting from having to basically "camp indoors" for three weeks because of delays that seemed totally preventable with a bit of professionalism from Ellis' back-office operations.
So go ahead, use Ellis for your local move. But would recommend you look elsewhere if you are attempting an international relocation.
Ellis did a great job when they moved our family in a local West Vancouver move. They were efficient, timely, clean and did a great job of keeping our furniture safe and sound. Their estimate came very close to the actual final bill, and I would use them again.
The movers did a good job. All of my things were moved carefully and there was no damage. However, I had specifically mentioned I wanted insurance in my email and the driver simply forgot to ask me about it/ tick off the box on the invoice and then told me it was "too late" at the end. I said it was fine as long as none of my property was damaged, which *luckily* it was not. Otherwise I would have fought them for sure. That being said, they took WAY too long to move my stuff and it cost me WAY too much. All in all, it took 5 hours for them to move a studio apartment's furnishings and the drive was less than 10 minutes. They also arrived an hour early, which they charged me for. Being the mild mannered person I am, I still tipped them which I kind of regret, but one of the movers was a young kid who I figured could use the extra scratch. Both of them were nice guys who helped the move feel less stressful. But it wasn't a great feeling to be slapped with a $700 moving bill when I was expecting $400-$500. Will not use again.
Drivers routinely ignore speed limits in neighbourhoods putting cyclists and pedestrians at risk. Driving 20+km over a posted limit is unacceptable especially when driving large trucks.
The crew from Ellis helped me out on short notice. They were professional at all times.
I would definitely use their services again.

My husband and I hired Ellis' services in October. We initially sent out an email for the quote for a moving date of Nov 9th. We then received the quote and responded back but with changes-- that we would like to book but for the date to be for Nov 2nd instead. A weeks goes by and we don't get a reply. So my husband called Ellis Moving on Oct 7th and spoke to one of the workers there for approximately 6 minutes (We have it saved on our phone). During that 6 minute conversation, my husband confirmed the new date of Nov 2 with this male employee and had asked if they could bring mattress wrappers to cover our mattress etc. and how much that would cost. They ended the conversation by the male employee confirming that they will leave North Van around 8am therefore will arrive to our place in burnaby by 830ish.
On the morning of our move, we don't hear from anyone, a NO SHOW so my husband calls Ellis. Another male employee says there is nothing booked for us today. He tells my husband that we originally asked for Nov 9 but nothing was booked. My husband then began to explain what I just explained in the paragraph above-- how he didn't get a response back about the move date change to Nov 2 so called himself and talked to one of guys for a good 6 minutes going over what to bring and confirming the reservation. Of course they asked who my husband talked to and he didn't get his name.. and the conversation starts sidetracking into a "who talked to you" and "it would help if you remembered who talked to you" etc. Which didn't help the situation and was more like trying to decide the "who to blame" game.
After a heated conversation, my husband just firmly told the employee, his name was Josh, that we are packed and ready to move so we needed someone and this is just a completely irresponsible way to business and that they need to fix this situation by somehow arranging movers to come help us move.
Few minutes later, the employee, Josh called back and gave us a number for another moving company that could help us move today although couples hours later. We thanked this man, Josh, he may have made us feel quite frustrated in the beginning, however he was willing to listen to our complaints and in the end, found a solution for us so we would just like to personally thank Josh for finding a solution for us in this very messy and stressful situation.
If the owner of the Ellis Moving services would like to follow up on this matter, we can give you information about who my husband may have been talking to and confirmed the booking with on Oct 7 as we have the phone record of the time and length of the conversation recoded on his phone-- if it helps to find out who was taking calls on that day and hour.
After searching a few moving services, we decided to go with Ellis because despite the higher service charges, it was highly rated as being professional and trustworthy. Go figure.
I have moved over 10 times and Ellis Moving was the best moving company I have used by far. The Ellis team is so professional - both in the office and the movers. They treated the home and belongings with care and respect and were so efficient. I had expected this move to be stressful but the team did everything right and were happy to help with whatever I needed. Best of all, when a pane of glass got broken, Ellis took care of everything to get it replaced - I didn't have to do a thing.

I hired the company for an overseas shipment to Singapore, and my shipment arrived a month later than their estimated arrival date. When I inquired about the delay, the company initially blamed it on me, saying that I didn't submit all my forms early enough for the shipment. I had to remind them that I was the one who had to constantly check in with them regarding forms, payment, etc. Their person in charge of international shipment had to go on leave, which I can understand, but they shouldn't blame the delay on the customer. It turned out that the shipping company only has one shipment a month, and the company cancelled a shipment, hence the delay. There was no compensation for the major delay.
The moving staff was very friendly, but I certainly will not hire this company again. At least not with international shipment. I just haven't got around to file a complaint with the BBB.
Moving a family with 3 young kids is hard! I contemplated renting a UHaul, but opted to use Ellis instead and WOW!!! Ellis was $ WELL SPENT!!!!! I was amazed at the professionalism and friendliness of their team! I believe it was Lorne and Anthony and another gentleman who moved us. They were exceptional! Thank you guys! We used Ellis on the recommendation of a friend who also used them. We were very happy with the people, pricing, and services. They were 100 percent on time and right on the estimate, actually $100 lower than estimate. The whole terrible experience of moving was greatly eased using these people. Thank you Ellis .
We moved to Parksville last week (May 2019) and used Ellis. We got the dream team as a crew, Michael, Hamish & Junior packed us up with Michael & Hamish unloading the next day in Parksville. The guys were great, knew what they were doing and not so much as a scratch on any of our furniture. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
The only issue we had was with the bill. The Ellis office made ferry reservations at 1pm that would have left less than 3 hours of unloading and assembly time. The guys left our house before 2pm and would have made the 3:20 ferry if they had a reservation. They didn't make it on without a reservation and had to wait until 6pm. This added 2.5 hours to our bill at OT rates of $178.50 per hour. If you are using Ellis for a move to the Island I would strongly suggest making multiple ferry reservations yourself and not leaving it to them, it will save you big $ in the long run.
Quote was 2500. Bill was 6500. Items went missing during move. Mover named Slim barely did anything and let the other guys work while he chatted on the phone with his girlfriend. He was super rude to me and unprofessional.
We were very pleased with the movers who worked were careful and attentive.
This was a great experience. I liked that the phone conversations made it clear the people were listening and making notes, so that when I called back they remembered and had no trouble resuming where we left off. Personalized service felt great. I wasn't just a number in a queue. They arrived on time, packed up and unpacked thoroughly and efficiently. They left on time, and the quote was almost exactly what was estimated. The movers were personable and polite, and they were there to work and get the job done. Highly recommended.

We recently moved from North Vancouver to Chilliwack. Phil Ellis did an assessment of what would be involved in our move, and was very accurate about what would be involved and timelines. From start to finish, the crew of fellows who packed and moved our belongings were fantastic. What impressed us most was their getting my overly-large desk up to the second floor office in our new home - no small feat! They worked hard, were very polite, and best of all, nothing was damaged!

We made the right decision in going with Ellis for our move in August because the day went very well. The estimate for the amount of boxes we would need was pretty darn accurate and the guys were on time the day of the move and very efficient. They were careful with our things and worked hard. Initially, had a prompt response. Phil Ellis, came by my place to get an assessment of the items I would be moving. I got an email saying I would get a quote, which never came. I also mentioned I needed to reduce my shipment, but received no reply. No idea why this occurred, but I probably won't contact or recommend Ellis Moving, and ended up going with their primary competition who have been great.
This was my second move with Ellis. It was a very complicated move, but as with the first move they did a perfect job from start to finish.
I would give a sixth star if there was one. I just moved from New Westminster on the mainland to a small town on Vancouver Island. It was a huge move, and could have been very stressful. Ellis took much of the stress out of the move. Phil Ellis himself did the initial home visit to determine an estimate. He accommodated my M-F 9-5 work hours and came on a weekend. He arrived on time and took the time to walk me through every stage of what would happen through the move, if I decided to go with Ellis. He provided me an estimate when he said he would, and the final cost of the move was EXACTLY what the estimate had said. On the day of the move, his team arrived on time and worked incredibly quickly and professionally to get everything loaded up. They were cheerful, courteous, and professional. One badly-made piece of furniture broke in the course of the move, and the mover responsible IMMEDIATELY told us about it and gave us options for how to remedy the situation. I was given a free mattress by a friend and I had purchased a bed frame to go with it - these guys volunteered to put the frame together for me and placed the bed where I wanted it. They stayed and adjusted everything until I was happy with where everything was. My experience with Ellis from start to finish was nothing less than FANTASTIC. I highly recommend them!
We had a really great experience with Ellis. From the pack out, to storage and finally the out of province move - they were very professional, dependable and efficient. All our belongings were packed up so well that I'm sure our toddlers could have had a go at the boxes and nothing would have broken. The communication was great between Ellis and ourselves. From the emails and calls or if we ever needed to get into the storage containers, they were always available (with the required notice). A great family run company.

We thought Ellis Moving did a fantastic job with our move to Bowen Island. The team were personable, careful, and nothing was broken!
Unprofessionel and absolutely not reliable. I asked for a quote and they promised me to check things out for me and never did. If it is already like this in the beginning i can not picture how bad their other services must be.
Terrible experience with them! They arrived on time, which was great, but they broke several items including some glasses, a mirror, severely scratched up my couch and lost a part on my exercise equipment.
At the time I said the mirror was okay, I found out the rest of the parts after they left. They said they were in a hurry, and forced me to sign quickly on the paperwork. I didnt have proper time to look everything over. Later that same day I tried to call up and email Ellis moving, they basically said "too bad you signed the paperwork, we held up our end of the deal" then made me pay the full amount, no discount or anything.
You would think any respectful company would at least give you a break on the price after all of that, but no, terrible company, and have told everyone I know to stay far away!
The most pleasant and easy move we've ever done. The company was extremely helpful, the movers very careful, experienced, friendly, personable, trustworthy and final cost VERY reasonable and honest. Would ONLY ever use them if needed and highly recommend them.

They picked our belongings up, stored them for several weeks, collected some additional purchases and delivered to our new address as promised. We suffered not a scratch on anything, they stuck by their quote and their employees were first class ambassadors for their company. I made an inquiry about moving a small student studio apartment, they were honest and straightforward and gave me great advice on how the best way I can make the move was using Fedex instead of regular moving services since the cost would be much lower given the amount of stuff I'll be moving. They also offered me some half priced package materials. Great people and support. Highly recommended for consideration.
I'm so glad I went with Ellis for my cross-town move. The estimate was fair and was accurate to what I actually ended up paying. The movers were professional and efficient, and arrived right on time. I loved that they wrapped everything so it didn't get damaged or wet, even very small pieces of dismantled furniture. They were also flexible when we ran into an issue with our move, and had to adjust the time of the delivery to later in the day. I have already recommended them to one friend and will continue to do so!

I had such a bad experience with them. A few of the problems included
1. Broke a really expensive side table. When packing I told them to be careful with it and they said "don't worry we treat everything as fragile". Ii noticed the next day while unpacking that it was missing. They swore that they had delivered it but after a few days eventually found it broken in their storage facility in pieces! That was after at least 5 phone calls where they repeatedly denied having it. James told me afterwards that I should have i told the movers it was expensive. I replied that I did!! He initially offered to buy a new one as replacement but when he found out the price he said that they are only a family run business and can't afford to reimburse me for that table.
2. Packing they quoted my 5 hrs with 2 men. It took 9 hours and only with my help! We had a deadline to vacate our home so I had to help. I was working just as hard if not harder than the other movers. I paid movers so that I could AVOID lifting things myself.
3. Rather than roll up the rugs first before moving the furniture out they trampled all over them. Cost several thousand to wash all the rugs after the move
4. Broke a tv stand. Said they would repair it. Took a whole month for someone to come by to glue it.
5. Broke several book shelves
6. Several boxes (luckily just shoes) never did arrive
7. Worst part about it was the customer service and how james never took any responsibility for what happened. Blamed me for not telling movers my furniture was really expensive.
Almost forgot- they dragged a dresser along my new hardwoods and put huge gouges in it. Eventually took almost 6-8 weeks to repair but it looks terrible. Even though I have extra floorboards they wouldn't replace the damaged area with new floorboard. Put ugly filler on it and it looks horrible. The repair guy was even more flaky than James. Repeatedly cancelled his appointment before finally showing up. I recently had a bed moved from white glove movers. They dropped a screwdriver and damaged my floor. They sent someone in the next day to repair and it's barely noticeable. The difference in customer services was night and day between the two!
Would NEVER recommend to anyone. Was so disappointed.
Ellis Moving made the whole experience much more manageable and "easy". From the in home quote to the moving team on the day, we were thrilled with the service. We would recommend them to anyone moving.
Used Ellis to do a move of an upright piano from our basement to 2nd floor. They had an issue with their truck the day they were supposed to come which was unfortunate, however they got their truck to come first thing the next day so I didn't have to take additional time off work which I appreciated and their staff was professional and courteous and did an excellent job moving our piano. Would use again and recommend.
I wouldn't be exaggerating if I say Ellis is the definition of professionalism. I have been sceptical throughout this canada wide move but Ellis have owned my shipment through out. Exceptional customer service from Josh and Shawn never heard a single dB of frustration on their voice.
Prompt service. The move was very close to the estimated time and we were billed our estimated cost despite a slight overage. There was no damage to the house we moved out of, any of our belongings, or the house we moved into. I would *highly* recommend the company and their service. An excellent experience for our family.

Amazing team. Great service! They wrapped everything so well and so quick. They had to move two houses into one (apartment and a home ) into a larger home with a steep drive way and lots of stairs. They did it so careful But so speedy! I would use them again!

Initially good service. Upon arrival of my shipment, a duffle bag of clothing was "lost" and never arrived to my destination.
I have had numerous emails with Phil, from Ellis Moving. He has completely and ignorantly neglected to file a claim through his insurance company to compensate me for my lost belongings (obviously as that will just affect his premium).
Additionally, a sculpture of mine that has sentimental value was damaged in the moving process. Phil completely disregarded any desire to care or even offer to fix.
All of this unprofessionalism, through the inability to file a claim, missing luggage, damaged products and absolute infantile customer service, I would highly NOT recommend working with this corporation. I am filing with the BBB and taking action to ensure that I am compensated and that this never happens to anyone else again.
Funnily after reading these reviews it appears that I am not the only individual who has had this occurs.

I worked with Ellis Moving with a very tight time line on my move. The owner came to my home weeks in advance and dropped off boxes, packing material and gave us a demonstration on how to pack efficiently. Trust me - the demo is valuable. On the actual moving date I was impressed by how hard and efficient the crew worked and still remained friendly. These guys are the real McCoy.
We have moved in four provinces and this was our easiest move to date thanks to the great teamwork at Ellis Moving. Phil came and did the estimate and gave us helpful suggestions. We were surprised at the smaller size of the truck that arrived but it was perfect as were the two gentlemen who efficiently loaded our belongings and did an expert job of wrapping furniture. We had a wonderful crew who carefully wrapped all of our furniture. They even dismantled a complete Ikea day bed and reassembled it perfectly. We were more than happy with the crew.

The movers were careful with our items and nothing was broken. In addition, they were pleasant to be around. I was happy with their service from end to end.

The movers were good and I would use them again. They arrived on time and despite the fact they were being paid by the hour they worked very quickly and efficiently. They did not complain that our place was an old rental suite with very steep stairs and were clean, polite and friendly.
The reason I deducted one star was that once I booked with the company they did not follow up to confirm with me the date and time of the move. I had to contact them the day before to find out the time of the arrival and the person on the phone seemed surprised that I was not contacted. Also, I found an off season promotion discount on their website that was to be applied and the driver informed of when the bill was done up. When the bill was being done up the driver told me he knew of no such discount promotion. To be fair, he called his supervisor and it was applied, but it was almost as if the onus was being placed on me to obtain the savings that I was offered through their advertisement. Good thing I'm on the ball!
Overall a great experience except for those two issues on the customer service end of things.
The Ellis boys....friendly, smiling, happy, and STRONG! They were super kind about telling me to edit my stuff, and brought me many boxes, paper and tape in plenty of time to get started. I felt they took complete control of the situation, moved my furniture and boxes with care and by the end of the day they probably had gone up and down thousands and thousands of stairs....Great job and I would highly recommend their service.

They were responsive to my questions and made sure that the move was smooth at both ends. The crew that packed for us in Vancouver was excellent!! One of the most reliable movers for pianos and long distance moves of household effects. This is the second time I ve used them and communication was excellent from initial contact through pickup and delivery. Most importantly, every item documented and double-checked and not a scratch or crack in anything!

From 1st email contact to the assessment by the owner of Ellis, at our house, I was VERY impressed with Ellis Moving & Storage! They truly care about each and every item... big or small. Hand wrapping in paper and cataloging each item, for extra ease on the move back in! We had to keep our furniture and boxes at their storage facility for many months until we bought our condo. I contacted them to make an appointment for access to our containers & they wrote back right away with an appointment option early the next morning. Everyone sincerely seems to really care & are all very friendly & professional. I highly recommend Ellis Moving & Storage!
