Went for a youth camp with about 60 youth and 20 volunteers.

Food was terrible. Serving sizes left people hungry (ex: they prepared only 1 chicken finger a person, one very small bowl of veggies for a table of 10 people), food allergies were left ignored (ex: one meal didn't have a single dairy-free option), snacks that were paid for were not served.

They had us move last minute out of our large meeting space into the gym because the other room was under renovations. We had to pay more to rent AV and because it was last minute, hastily scrounge the equipment up. When we were there, the original room was not under renovations.

Tons of mosquitos.

The pool and gym was really nice tho!

The idea of this place and the joy it brings the kids is wonderful. However, these boys and girls/full grown adults eat far more than the portion sizes your serving. Volunteers and workers included also eat far more. The fact you think it's okay to let kids play in the heat with 1 piece of french toast and a sausage in their stomach is as close to gross negligence as I can think. I understand how hard it is to make food that everyone can have with so many allergies involved, but you have to do better. Find a way! Kids should NOT be going hungry through the night for a week at camp of all places, because you didn't allocate enough funds to serve them all. You are mandated to better, it's just sad to see how this put a damper on what was going to be a really fun week. I was a PSW recently if your wondering where my experience comes from. Witnessing all these people complaining for more food and being hungry all day was a gut wrenching thing to see. Find a way to do better

Nurses: Not worth your license. So many good things about this Camp. The food was good and abundant, the Counselors are amazing with the Campers, the Campers are The Best! but the Director and the Assistant Director wreak havoc and chaos here. I volunteered as a camp nurse, and the Director and Assistant Director challenged and undermined the nurses' every decision. The lack of trust trickled downwards, and consequently we received SUCH pushback from the Counselors too. Super stressful. I came home after a week there more stressed than a week at work. Camp Director majored in the minors (mosquito bites) and then minored in the majors (basic Infection Control during a GI Outbreak). Tossed the policies book at me stating that policies were useless and unnecessary. Screamed at me about writing up incident reports about these incidents. So I wrote an Incident Report about an Incident Report. That was a new one for me. I was there last year, and had a wonderful time because the Camp Director trusted the nurses' judgement. Don't volunteer here if the same Camp Director and Assistant Director are here next year as has been this year. They don't need nurses....they know better than you anyway.
