The whole family stayed there when we stopped at SF during our road trip on the west coast.
If was like in the movies we grew up with, the rooms were classy and comfortable, the staff made everything to make you feel important and the restaurant was 5 stars class.
A must go when in SF, it is worth every penny we spent!

I was eating at the old tonga room which seems to be under new management. The food was supposed to be Chinese/Hawaiian but they tasted more like the white washed trader joes ethnic foods. The band however was amazing!

I was here for a conference. My room was pleasant with good views of the city, and the bathroom was spacious but kind of cold. The thermostat was hard to use and air blew loud enough to wake me up.

Conference rooms are much nicer than at most hotels, and the hotel-catered meals were pretty good.

The place it's self looks beautiful but I wouldn't say it's 5* hotel. I currently stay on the 4th floor. My shower leaks, you have to pay for WiFi everyday, the maid forgot to clean the room today and when we phoned to remind about our room she did cleaned but forgot to take with herself the cleaning products. The coffee mashine was pretty old. Ooo and the air con so dusty that I'm scared to switch it on.

The level of service has been worse than most mid-level hotels I've stayed at. My boyfriend and I wanted to make coffee the first morning we were here, so we opened the cabinet to find a water boiler and Keurig coffee cups but no Keurig machine and no instructions. So we tried making the coffee in the water boiler which ended up bubbling over and getting all over many of my clothes. We informed the front desk four times that we needed someone to come up and clean the carpet and my clothes, and they kept saying they would come up and take care of it, but never did. On the second time talking to them, they finally came up and got my clothes but never cleaned the carpet or even provided house keeping for our room. The heater in the room also made loud noises randomly during the night and the water in the shower was barely warm enough to bathe with on the hottest setting. The walls are also paper thin and you can hear everything your neighbor is doing, including talking and giggling with friends at all hours of the day and night. If they put half the effort into providing a 5-star experience as they did into building a ginger bread house in the lobby and decorating for Christmas, I'm sure this would be a great place to stay. Unfortunately we have one more night to go, but I for one will not be coming back here.

Beautiful venue for a conference. This was my second conference at this location, and it never disappoints. The meeting rooms have a lot of style to them. I hear the place is a little pricey, but am not sure if that's true.

Not impressed. When you stay at a hotel that is supposed to be one of the top hotels in the city you expect it to be clean, well maintained, and to cater to it's guests. Not the case. We saw the same trash in the hallway near the elevator 3 days in a row (we checked out the 3rd day so it could still be there). Baseboards in our room needed repair/painting. Bathroom was tiny - only one sink with zero room to set anything. They had a coffee maker in our room with the worst set up I have seen. Pods kept in another area, you had to hold the drawer out to use the coffee maker. Room would not cool down - they override the room to be kept at 72 degrees. To contrast that the lobby is FREEZING - we had to meet people down there and it was around 35 degrees. So hard to balance what to wear even in the hotel. Wait staff was great but can't say the same about the rest of the staff. For a hotel who claims to be one of the best they nickel and dime their guests to death. They advertise their gym (which is tiny) and what they fail to mention is that it will cost you $15 a person to use it each day. Just like the internet, you want internet? Sure $24 a day or more if you want the high speed. Parking, sure, we have that too - $75 a day. So just beware of all the added cost that come standard a.k.a FREE at normal hotels. Breakfast was good, dinner was bland and overpriced. Just disappointing overall. Would not go back as there are too many wonderful hotels to chose from going forward. My advice, pick somewhere that treats you like a treasured customer!

Stayed at the Fairmont for 3 nights while traveling for work. The whole stay was great from the moment I walked in. The staff was extremely courteous and gave me a room with a great view. The lobby was decorated for the holidays and gorgeous. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay in San Francisco.

Went to visit the Tonga Room which was quite the experience. Drinks were good, band was great. The band was on a floating platform in the middle of a pool. Very authentic tiki vibe. Hotel itself was beautiful and very ornate.

Expensive and stuffy. A $200 room still has to pay $15 for internet and $67 for parking if you want to park on site. Walls are thin and water pressure leaves something to be desired. The beds however are very comfortable.

This my first review, but my third stay at the hotel. The first two were lack luster. The third one was just amazing and thanks to Kashmira whom my Wife and I met at Fairmont SF. We got a quiet room that wasn't close to the loud public transport, and the views were absolutely breath-taking. Thanks to this experience at a new Fairmont, Kashmira has made my wife and I fans of the Fairmont chain of hotels.

Hosted a black tie wedding at the Fountain Room with a reception in the Crown Room. The Fairmont staff was exceptional, the views were spectacular, the food was amazing, and the Tonga room was a great place for the after party. I couldn't have asked for a better location.

Very nice, upscale hotel. Not as nice as other Fairmonts, or the Claremont across the bay, but still a cut above other hotel options. Old hotel means inconsistent water temperatures in the room. Not sure what accounted for the inconsistent service - sometimes very responsive, sometimes a bit slow. Overall, a great experience relative to just about any other place you could stay.

I stayed at the Fairmont Hotel in 1996. I remember hearing a man singing in the shower ordering room service and 30 minutes later there was commotion and someone got their Humvee stolen.

Beautiful hotel, fantastic service and good location.

The location is a little further and at the top of the hill in Knob Hill. The area is definitely more upscale, quieter and safe. I prefer to be here, and then just take a quick Uber down.

If you prefer a closer walk to union square area/pier...it s a little further up, but totally doable. It s a bit of a trek coming back up though.

Easily in my top 5 worst restaurant experiences of all time. The omelete I ordered was so tough that I had to use a knife to cut it. The avocado that came with said omelete was not ripe to the point that it was inedible. Skillet potatos were mediocre. Overall incredibly low standard of food, which wouldn't prompt a response such as this if not for the fact that a modest meal for 3 people cost $80. Would avoid this place like the plague, even if you're staying at the Fairmont.

My husband took me here for my birthday. We had a tower room on the 22nd floor overlooking the city. The view was incredible. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. We stopped by Tonga Room for drinks before going to dinner. We will be staying here again.

Stunning views, a beautiful room and every undeserved creature comfort. We were served by excellent customer service before, during and after our stay. This hotel and its staff offered all the kindness and efficiency one would hope for in a hotel, such as the Fairmont San Francisco.

Their suggestion to visit Uncle Vito s pizza was spot on as well. Best pizza we ve had, maybe ever.

The location is perfectly charming and accommodating with Union Square and the Embaradero nearby but not overly fussy or limiting to taxi s only.

Loved our stay!

A hotel that lives in its legacy. Location: right on top of the hill. Quite difficult to get around on foot even though places like China town is just a few blocks away. Room quality: while the standard rooms are spacious, it started showing aging.
Conclusion: it's an old hotel which shows aging but not in a classy way in many aspects. Average experience.

Beautiful hotel. The drinking fountains doubled as water bottle refill stations. The feel of the entire place was very classic yet well-maintained. The history of the hotel was not forgotten but I would not call the place old either. It is a gorgeous relic of San Francisco used to offer. The Tonga Room was breathtaking and really cool. The drinks were strong and tasty. I would love to go back to try the food.

Ideal location and a gorgeous building. I was in town for a convention and my wife and I were able to get out each evening and walk to nearly everything including Coit Tower, Bridge, Pier, Cup, Food, etc. The room, at 450/night, was a little underwhelming but with 20K people at my convention alone and this vacation, apparently demand asked and they answered.
